Croissantsfordinner · 19/02/2025 10:38

I am 5ft2 and 11 stones heavy. The heaviest I have been in my whole life.
I need to get back in track with gym and moderate eating, was wondering if you’d like to share an average day pf eating, if you are someone who is careful not to gain weight/stays slim.
Obv I appreciate it also depends on how much movement, metabolism, age etc.
I have a big appetite and usually have big dinners, as well as a couple of take outs a week which together with a sedentary office life, have slowly contributed to my weight gain.

OP posts:
kitty1993 · 22/02/2025 20:52

I'm 34, 5ft 6 and weigh 10st.

I'm relatively active, go to the gym and do workouts at home as well as walking a lot. My job is mainly office based, sat in front of a computer. I have a 2 year old.

Morning- coffee with oat milk, porridge or toast.

Mid morning- apple

Lunch- small portion of something like bolognese and pasta or soup.

Afternoon- crisps or chocolate or more fruit.

Dinner- hit and miss. I don't always eat dinner. Sometimes just protein shake or toast.

I eat small portions and generally don't crave food. I tend to eat small and often as I can get low blood sugars if I don't have snacks. I currently don't drink much alcohol and that's helped me lose weight.

Dressinggown08 · 22/02/2025 20:53

Have you checked your eligibility for weight loss injections? I am the same height as you and was the same weight at the beginning of this year. I've lost a steady 2lbs a week since I started (so over a stone). No effort required and not having the constant food chatter in my head is amazing. I'm finally understanding how all those people who don't have food cravings/ obsessions feel.

Uberaddict · 22/02/2025 21:28

I am very tall and work out 5 times a week with weights and am very active. I am peri but quite muscly.

I normally track calories and eat a protein based diet and have a BMI of 22 ish. I'm on a slim
Down at the moment for a big event so I'm back on a 16;8 fasting window and a calorie deficit of about 500 a day. Skipping meals isn't bad if you manage it carefully and consider benefits of fasting.

So I ate today
16 hour fast broken at 11 am with a latte and a banana.
Protein bagel with avocado, egg white omelette and some grated cheese.
Cup of tea.
Small choc bar - circa 100 calories
Hot cross bun with a cheese slice for snack - cup of tea
Dinner at 5.30pm - grilled chicken with herbs rice and peas
Whisky and soda

Walked 10k steps and did a workout for 40 mins. Drank a litre bottle of water

I think that's pretty balanced and quite standard

I have been between 8-10 stone all my life, am 5'6''. Not really small but always within a normal weight. I love food and don't skip meals but don't eat in the evening, rarely snack and do prefer wholefoods over processed.

Yesterday I ate:

Breakfast: bowl of porridge with fruit and maple syrup.
Lunch: salad with goats cheese, avocado, lots of salad ingredients and homemade dressing. A Greek yoghurt and fruit afterwards.

Dinner: homemade chicken curry and rice with veg. A little dark chocolate afterwards. Finished eating at 6pm and then just have herbal tea or water.

This is the sort of thing I eat. My main meals are actually really healthy (and relatively small). I've never really liked sugary breakfast cereal, so I have weetabix or shredded wheat with fruit or porridge with a teaspoon of honey.

but I snack really badly. I'm not even hungry when I snack. I need to retrain my brain not to snack.

Pastelhp · 20/02/2025 12:29

I’m really shocked at how many people seem to skip meals - I’m slim (size 6-8) but have a good appetite and wouldn’t be able to concentrate if I skipped meals like this!

breakfast - Greek yoghurt (full fat) with berries
morning snack - piece of fruit (usually a pink lady straight out of the fridge so it’s cold)
lunch - either a tuna and cous cous salad, chicken salad etc. try and get lots of veggies in this and always some type of legumes in to keep my full/ for fibre
afternoon snack: banana if I’m peckish, sometimes a biscuit - just depends. Usually with my afternoon coffee
dinner - half my plate filled with veggies always. Around a quarter of my plate with some type of whole food carb; sweet potato, wholemeal pasta etc, quarter of my plate protein like a salmon filet or chicken breast
obviously occasionally I’ll have more or less or treat myself! Everything in moderation and try to add as much colour to my plate as possible

Skipping meals= fasting. I used to feel the way you do until I read up on its benefits, not just in controlling weight. There are so many benefits. I’ve been doing 18:6 or close since last June and feel great. I’ve always been a healthy BMI and had low end blood pressure, cholesterol below 4.0 and am rarely ill. I had done 5:2 in the pas but find this easier to fit into normal life. It means I make sure I eat good nutritional food in my eating window of 12pm-6pm as I need to not fill up on empty calories.I actually find I am super focussed in the morning when fasted and that is a common finding. Giving your digestive system a break is beneficial for lots of conditions and repair.

Pitstop1986 · 23/02/2025 11:48

I am about to turn 40 and have been about size 6-8 for about 20 years.

Breakfast is overnight oats, an omlette, porridge or a smoothie bowl topped with granola

If I need a snack, it is a peice of fruit, a cereal bar or a cappuccino

Lunch is a sandwich and raw veggie crudités or salad with some cous cous, quinoa or a slice of bread

Afternoon snack would be fruit, nuts or a couple of rice cake with hummus or peanut butter

Dinner is pasta, rice or potatoes with a protein - beef, chicken, fish or tofu, etc and plenty of veg. This could be as a spaghetti bolognese, chicken or lentil curry, chicken, veg and potato traybake, poke bowl, etc

After dinner, I always have a sweet treat, I crave a bit of sugar/chocolate in the evening so will have either dark or milk chocolate, a homemade brownie or biscuits, an ice cream, whatever I'm in the mood for really.

If I've got a holiday coming up or my clothes are starting to feel a bit tight, I'll cut out the snacks for a week or two and just have my 3 meals and replace my evening treat with an apple or a banana. That usually just helps to keep my clothes fitting nicely.

I used to exercise a lot and was proud of my muscle definition, but with 2 young kids I don't have time to get to the gym so the only exercise that I do is walking

AnonymousMum37 · 23/02/2025 17:32

Not thin but I am losing weight. I juuuuust got my BMI back into the healthy zone. I've lost 12lb since NY.

I mostly have a high protein natural yoghurt and fruit with a Weetabix or a few oats for breakfast.

A salad with chicken/beans/chickpeas/feta/salmon for lunch.

A normal healthy family dinner but weigh/check my calories to check I'm not overeating.

On a weekend we tend to have a 'treat' breakfast (fry up/pancakes/bacon sandwich/croissants) about 11am after a family walk or run (kids have a banana or cereal bar before we go). Then that keeps us full til a bigger meal at 4ish which is usually either pizzas or a roast.

henlake7 · 23/02/2025 21:43

I can't get behind the fasting/skipping meals, not my thing at all!
Im 52, 5'5 and 9 and a half stone.
B1-shredded wheat and prunes with plant milk
B2-oats, protein powder, apple and berries
L-wholemeal toast with peanut butter and sliced banana
D-big bowl of veggies, beans, tofu and some kind of sauce, a few rice cakes, roasted seaweed and a portion of tinned fruit
S- bowl of berries, soya yoghurt and granola

Exercise is usually 8-10k steps day, cardio X2(running, exercise bike or mini stepper) and either pilates or weight training.
I'm Def not worried about my fibre intake.....i eat over twice the recommended daily amount!😁

Oh, and for most of my adult life I was a sedentary 17st miserable blob but when I hit peri menopause all the food noise and binge eating just went away!
It was like nature's Mounjaro!

OfNoOne · 23/02/2025 21:50

Vanity sizing means I'm now a size 8 in more places. That just doesn't seem right to me. I'm right in the middle of a healthy BMI range - how is that a size 8??

Today, I had my usual fruit and veg smoothie; crudites and hummus; and a chicken and veg curry. Homemade apart from the hummus - that was from my local Lebanese food shop (theirs is a lot better than mine). Shared a hot chocolate with DC after football club, too.

This thread is just what I've been looking for!

I feel I know everything about healthy eating, and try my best to follow it. Only eating between 7am - 7pm each day.

Don't snack

Avoid sugar and ultra processed foods.

Have started running 3 x a week, yoga 2 x a week, gym & weights 1 x a week

No longer drink alcohol

But... I'm heavier than ever.

I'm 5'7 and 12 stone, with a really big belly

I love food, love big portions, and really feel unwell if I get hungry.

Breakfast: porridge oats, full fat Greek yogurt, full fat milk, fruit

Lunch: oat cake's cheese and apple, or jacket potato with tuna and cheese plus apple

Dinner: stir fry veg and noodles, or sweet potato, or homemade lasagna etc

That doesn't sound so bad does it?

But... I'm considering replacing evening meal with cabbage soup or something. I'm generally not even that hungry in the evening.

The downside of all my exercise is it makes me crave sugar- so the sugar usually sneaks in after a run.

I think i would just cut out the carbs and increase the protein and fat. As we get older we just don’t really need the carbs and we store them differently.

Edited to add: I used to get very hungry and feel really unwell. But when I massively reduced carbs and increased protein I was amazed at how less hungry I felt.

This IS a really sugary breakfast though.

Weetabix = starch (which = sugar)
Shredded wheat = same
Porridge = same
Fruit = sugar
Honey = sugar

Studies have shown people who eat sugar for breakfast snack more, which might explain it.

Morning all
Happy Monday

I've decided I'm fed up of being fat and obsessing over food as my happiness.

3 years post DC

1x coffee this am

Will fast until 2pm
Have a big dinner

Then green tea and water for the rest of the day.

8k steps daily

Do this for 10 days

I look like a Oompa Loompa
I'm short so the weight makes me look so dumpy!!

struggling24 · 24/02/2025 11:19

Thanks @Wantitalltogoaway out of interest what would you all recommend for my lunch today?

I have a ham and cheese sandwich packed with me. But that will no where near fill me up.

I would probably have oatcakes and cheese along side that, and an apple.

Any other suggestions? I work near a supermarket so I can nip out and buy anything, but no ability to cook anything.

It would be good to hear your suggestions

henlake7 · 24/02/2025 11:19

I hope the fasting works for you.

I think alot of the problem is people trying to fit their lifestyle/preference into a certain diet 'mould' and then failing when it just doesnt fit.

For me eating fruit and veg heavy meals regularly throughout the day keeps me satisfied.
I always end the day with a packet of crisps as well because I know what floats my boat!😄

I am currently trying to diet and reverse prediabetes.

I fast until 12, then I have chicken mayo or tuna mayo in a low carb wrap, or sandwich thins with tuna mayo and mozzarella toasted on the foreman. Cup of tea with full fat milk (sweetener in semi).

Snacks, boiled eggs, ham, for a choc fix full fat greek yogurt with chocolate protein powder (I use the one below flavour chocolate silk - honestly I have never tasted anything like it!)

Evening meal, protein so chicken, beef, omelettes, with veg

https://www.theproteinworks.com/whey-protein-360-extreme

Which low carb wraps do you use please? I had some last year which I loved but I can't remember what kind they were!

In answer to the OP, I am the same heights as you, early 40s-not sure what I weigh but It's somewhere between 9st7 and 10st. I'm not thin but slim, no lumps and bumps.

I stick to 1000 calories a day-always count them. I do not cry if I go into say, 1200 but I try to stick to it. It's the only thing that works for me. Low-carbing helps with this.

I aim for one or two days off per fortnight-if I have a friend staying or a weekend away It's two days of meals out, for example but then I might not have a day off for two more weeks afterward-OR I have one day off at the weekend then another one the following one. Typically though, unless I am going away etc It's one 'day off' a fortnight.

I don't eat meat or dairy.

I drink far too much wine which I am trying to address-not addict territory but I am sure it isn't doing me any good! Just as a single person with no responsibilities other than a stressful job, I am not sure what else to do in the evenings sometimes. Plus if I didn't go to the pub a few times a week I'd not ever really see anyone.

Yesterday I had;
Two cups of coffee with low-carb creamer.
Lunch-stir fried veg with barnaked noodles and tofu (740 calories accounting for a blob of hummus and the oil for the stir fry.

Dinner Tofu sticks dipped in more hummus, stir fried broccoli with a sprinkle of seeds 300 and something calories.

If I don't do this, I get fat. And that makes me miserable.

I weight lift 5-6 times a week and run about 3 miles about three times a week.

Thanks @PoppyBaxter that sounds delicious!! And would certainly fill me up.

I'll get those ingredients to make that tomorrow!

BMI of 19. Mid 40s. Aim for 1800-2000 calories a day to maintain. A typical day

BF: walnuts, rye crackers with goats cheese, wild salmon, capers and broccoli sprouts, large apple with peanut butter, 2 black coffees

L: Salad with mixed leaves, carrot, beetroot, bell peppers, walnuts, evoo, apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut. Rye bread with avocado and jerk chicken. Apple with almond butter

D: Fish fillet, fried onions, tomatoes and garlic in balsamic, fried brown and wild rice with chestnuts and mushroom powder, large portion of broccoli and kale, raspberries and square of dark chocolate. Stop eating at 6pm.

I do about 8k steps a day and some weights at home 3-4 x a week.

I rarely eat upf unless socialising or drink alcohol. I limit bread to 1 small slide of rye or sourdough bread a day and try to walk for 10 minutes after each meal.

Lovelynames123 · 24/02/2025 12:53

5'5 and a size 10, never weigh myself. I'm on my feet all day, 12 hours twice a week, 9 hours 3 times a week.

Barely ever have breakfast, 3 or 4 white coffees before 12. If I'm peckish have a latte

Lunch, sometimes half a sandwich, or chilli with nachos, or a slice of toast

Tea, steak with sweet potato fries, tenderstem brocoli, tomatoes

Barely any snacking, but I work with food everyday and it stops me actually eating it!

On holiday now, eating like there's no tomorrow!

Yes, I eat something similar most days. The key for me is no carbs and lots of protein, so definitely a whole tin of tuna plus the egg. Most people make the mistake of cutting carbs but not eating enough meat, fish and eggs. If I eat carbs at lunch it makes me hungrier.

I’d also add some sauerkraut as I’ve found healing my gut has been really beneficial.

itsjustthewayitwas · 24/02/2025 13:44

I like the sound of that salad. I need to eat more salads but am not very good at making them. I need lots of ideas!
