What’s your ideal weight if you’re 5ft 10 ?

Currently on a weight loss journey. I’m now sitting at 11st 3lb. A size ten is getting big on me, somehow I think though I still look quite chunky but family keep saying I look too thin ( but they are an overweight family generally). What’s your ideal weight if you’re around this height and what size clothes does that get you to?

Check your BMI on nhs website for an impartial view on whether you are a healthy weight for your height. There are health risks with being outside the healthy range either way.

I’ve already checked it. It’s midway on the healthy range. I don’t t find it that helpful. I think I might have quite a large frame.

As you say your BMI is in the healthy zone and isn’t close to the top or bottom or that range.

My childhood friend was about 11stone and 5ft 10, she had a nice model-type figure that some people liked, but others did think she looked too skinny. She was super fussy just picked at sweets and crisps and fries- rarely had proper balanced meal so wasn’t very healthy and IMO it showed. She looked quite weak.

Most of my slim 5ft 7 + friends are size 10-12 so I’d say if you’re a size 10 at that height it’s unlikely you’re “chunky” but then I guess it’s subjective to an extent.

Maybe you should go for a body composition assessment which you can do in many gyms or a full DEXA scan. It measures your body fat, visceral fat, bone density etc so it’s more accurate and detailed in terms of determining your body health.

Oh and measure your waist too if you don’t already know your waist size. That’s a great indicator of health.

'Healthy BMI' is a range, you are in the middle of it. You do not need to be at the bottom of the range to be a healthy weight.

Pyjamatimenow · 29/09/2024 09:09

@Opensesameseeds I think I have weight in places that clothes don’t need to fit to which is why I’m in a ten and could probably squeeze into an 8. My thighs and my arms still have plenty of fat I think

Yes the calories are very low to lose weight at this point. It’s not easy.

If you're a healthy BMI and a size ten, I wonder why you still feel you are on a journey. What's the arrival point?

I'm an inch shorter and my goal is to be about 0.01kg inside the healthy BMI range. That woukd be fine. At that point ill probably still be a 16 in some clothes because of my shape but who cares?

Blanketyre · 29/09/2024 09:54

Why does it matter to you what other people think about your weight?

Pyjamatimenow · 29/09/2024 09:56

@PermanentTemporary i suppose I want to feel like I look good in clothes. Things like tucking in a top but I do wonder if it’s not a fat thing more that I don’t like my shape which I can’t really change much. I’m quite straight waisted which doesn’t really help

I don’t think I asked that. I asked what weight other tall women feel happy at.

You can change your shape to an extent, through working out. Especially if you're very slim overall (which you appear to be) but feeling a bit flabby in places.

I'm an inch taller and a 12 is about right for me, any slimmer and people start commenting. Also 'big boned' though.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 29/09/2024 10:05

You clearly aren't too thin if you are in the middle of normal range. I find it difficult to believe you are chunky though if a size 10 is loose on you.

I found size 12 to be the best for me. I was 8/10 for a long time and often got hangry as I had no energy reserves. I am currently a 16-18 so overweight.

GreatNorthBun · 29/09/2024 10:06

I don't think sizes mean much. I'm your height and have never been a size 10. At 11 stone I was a size 14, so I think frame is more pertinent than height here. I'm curvy with a pronounced waist and chest and broad back.

I have never ever been skinny but feel happy and trim at about 70kg and that would put me at a 12/14. I'm 10kg more than that at the moment... but still a 14 more or less.

It’s very odd I know to say I’m wearing a ten at 11st ish but I think it’s because my weight is in my legs mostly.

Half an inch taller than you and 11stone 2oz was my gym bunny weight.

I'm also straight-waisted and feel like a sausage if I tuck my sitters into my trousers. I find that dresses, tunics, jackets with a bit of a flare over the hips are very flattering and make me feel like I have a defined waist.

PermanentTemporary · 29/09/2024 10:23

Sure. I didn't tuck stuff in even when i was 21 and in training because of my shape - I was well muscled and couldn't zip up some size 14 stuff back then, but man i had killer legs so i just wore skimmy stuff that ended just below my arse Grin I'd focus on clothes that suit your shape and on health.

Hotsweatymumsspagetti · 29/09/2024 10:26

I’m the same height, I’m over my ideal weight but I want to be around 12 stone if possible. I wore a size 12 but had a nice hourglass figure.

Dilbertian · 29/09/2024 10:29

And I don't like autocarrot which 'corrects' shirts to sitters 🙄

Justasmallgless · 29/09/2024 10:37

Same height as you and between 11.5 and 12 stone is my ideal weight which is a size 12.

Couple of things from what you have said - target arms and legs with specific exercises to tone them as weight won't drop from there.

If you can afford it have a professional stylist asses your body shape and colours so you are dressing for you as an individual.
It's made a huge difference to me and the clothes I choose to buy now

I’d be a ten at 11 stone, 12 at 11.5- 12.5, 14 currently at 13st 4oz. I carry my fat in an even layer all over though. I think if you carry weight in hips or tummy you go up through sizes faster.

alwaysonadiet1 · 29/09/2024 10:42

Another 5lb might make all the difference to how you feel and would keep you well within healthy weight boundaries. Apart from that, do you do Pilates or yoga for muscle tone? I would try that.

Asleeponthejob · 29/09/2024 10:46

Same height as you and currently about 10st 5 - that would get me in some 10s but not others . I start with a 12 when trying on . Weight I’ve been happiest with about 10st . I have meno belly though which is a much bigger issue in how I look and feel in clothes than my actual weight

skinnyoptionsonly · 29/09/2024 10:52

V similar height.

I prefer around 10stone but up to 10stone 5 is ok. 10 10 makes me feel huge.

There's no way I was a 10 at 11.5stone. I've been up to almost 12 stone and was 14 then easily
