What’s your ideal weight if you’re 5ft 10 ?

Currently on a weight loss journey. I’m now sitting at 11st 3lb. A size ten is getting big on me, somehow I think though I still look quite chunky but family keep saying I look too thin ( but they are an overweight family generally). What’s your ideal weight if you’re around this height and what size clothes does that get you to?

“If you're a healthy BMI and a size ten, I wonder why you still feel you are on a journey. What's the arrival point?”

This.

In case it’s helpful, I’m two inches shorter than you, quite large framed, long-ish limbs, 9.5 stone… sometimes size 10 sometimes size 12.

I feel the BMI is a blunt tool but maybe better than nothing. I prefer the vets approach which simply observes where fat is distributed and how much of it there is, whether a waist is visible, whether ribs or spine can be felt. I accept that may make me seem kooky but, whatever.

I’m not sure anyone but the most petite should aim to be less that a size 10. I lived through the 1990s when we aspired to be super skinny, it was neither attainable nor healthy.

bmi is a very blunt tool but if you’re in the middle healthy range you can’t be going too far wrong. Rather than aiming to lose weight how about toning up? Get to the gym for some training. It’s completely not fun at the start but definitely becomes more enjoyable.

I’m 5’10 and 10.5. I’ve been within 5lbs of this weight for three decades excluding pregnancy and illness.

Clothes vary so much now that I can wear an 8,10 or 12. Currently wearing size M leggings and S fleece.

I'm 173cm and currently 11st but felt my best at 10. Am only 11 due to medication weight gain, I was 10st for about ten years prior (barring pregnancy).

You have to remember body shapes play a huge part in clothes sizing. I'm not your height but at 5'6" I weigh as much as my 5'4 dd but we just have totally different body shapes. She holds weight on her legs/arms like you describe but has a tiny waist she is a 6 sometimes a 4. I'm straight up and down with skinny ass legs and a broad rib cage, I'm a size 10 possibly an 8 sometimes.

Like I tell my dd when she might compare our legs and declares that hers are massive compared to mine(they really aren't) there is only so much you can do with body shape, for the most part it is what it is. Just learn to how dress it. Neither of us are overweight in any way we are just very different shapes and that is ok, you are in for a long battle if you decide to try and fight it.

I'm 176 cm and my ideal weight is 65 kg.

I'm 5 foot ten and my best weight is 12 stone and a size 14. I look and feel healthy at that weight. Currently I'm quite a lot over that at 13.5ish and a size 16/18 which is a bit of a strain on my feet and gives me a belly and chins which I don't like the look of.

FiddleFigs · 29/09/2024 14:18

Same height and my ideal weight is 10 stone, which would put me at a size 10. Currently I’m at 10.5 stone, coming down from 11. At 11 stone, I’m 12-14. I look and feel good at 10-10.5 stone. I was 9 stone in my 20s, and really was a bit too thin then.

Codlingmoths · 29/09/2024 14:22

I’m a 10, and I can assure you clothes do need to fit over thighs and hips, I’m a smallish person, i look a healthy weight, so if I were your height I think I’d look very skinny.

GoodnightJude1 · 29/09/2024 14:47

I’m 5’10 and I’m a 10/12 (got quite big hips) at 11st 7lbs. I start to feel uncomfortable if I go over 11st 11lbs but under 11st 3lbs I think I look too slim for my build.

ShyCrab · 04/10/2024 12:14

I’m 5’10 and my ideal weight is around 10 stone up to 10 stone 7lbs. Anything over that and I do feel a bit fluffy in myself, but I think that I don’t carry weight well for my frame. It all goes to my face and arms and I look like a pudding. I’ve been down at 9 stone before but was way too thin and looked frail.
