Refocus!

Poisonwood · 21/09/2024 08:22

Mid forties, huge issues with food all my life. Piled on loads of weight when I turned 40. I’ve been up and down the same two stones the last couple of years, and am at present at the very top end…feel so frumpy and definitely lost confidence. Am avoiding mirrors!
Overall I’d love to lose 4 stone, but as the title says I want to completely refocus so am going to concentrate on a pound off at a time.
I have to accept that I have appalling self control around any form of snacking, and I think that if I concentrate on a lot less of that and choose/eat my meals mindfully I should see an improvement.
I know I need to go right now and weigh myself, I’ve been avoiding that too!!

Anyone else want some support and accountability?

Ah @thenewaveragebear1983 you have 2 choices! Hold strong (v hard) or just accept it is how it is and don't feel bad or totally lose control and refocus again on Monday!

I've managed to keep focus this week and am down from Mondays wake up weigh in. I'm so all or nothing - I cannot snack in moderation! Hoping to keep on track over the weekend and get myself back into the groove. I have a reward waiting for me at 65kg that I promised myself ages ago and never got there (a pair of doc Marten brogues!)....This is now 10kg away. Ultimate goal is 60kg but unsure if ever achievable!

chalkyc2 · 27/09/2024 09:36

@Poisonwood I'm feeling better too even after 4 days - my stomach is much better and I do sometimes wonder if I have a wheat/gluten thing - my sister was diagnosed as coeliac in her 30s. However whilst I know I feel better physically I still want crackers and cheese and chocolate....!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2024 15:40

@chalkyc2 I have no fight in me. I will have to ride it out and accept my fate on the scales on Monday morning 🤦‍♀️ 😢

chalkyc2 · 27/09/2024 16:05

Honestly that's fine. Make sure you enjoy it and have a guilt free weekend. Everything can be sorted on Monday. My Very Strict Week sees me 2kg down since Monday. Of course all could go wrong at the weekend!!

Poisonwood · 27/09/2024 16:23

@thenewaveragebear1983 you also have to balance enjoying life, don’t feel bad at all.

@chalkyc2 ooh those brogues sound fab. I bought a pair of Hush Puppy ones last year that are so comfy and I love but I stopped wearing when I piled on the weight…I wish my self confidence wasn’t so linked to my size, I am trying to find inner peace and acceptance more!!

Drinking lots of sparkling water today.

Can I join
I’ve been doing slimming word, I’m on 4th week and lost just under a stone. I’m really enjoying it and feeling better.
it’s a long weekend here and my birthday next week so hoping not to go off the rails too much

Poisonwood · 27/09/2024 22:58

@MiniPumpkin hello 👋
That’s a brilliant loss, well done you!!

14st 4lbs. 4lbs loss

Very happy with that. I don’t know what I lost the first week but 4lbs the second week is great. Starting taking dandelion today for water retention so that might help next week’s weigh in. Am going to really concentrate on water intake this week, will go and find the calculation of what I should drink for my weight.

2.9 litres. I’m definitely not drinking that much fluids! Might treat myself to a thermos for cold water, I despise tepid.

A good day food wise (chilli jacket potato, two bits of rye toast) but very sedentary. Hope weather good tomorrow, fancy a walk on the beach.

chalkyc2 · 29/09/2024 07:20

What did you use to tell you how much water to drink @Poisonwood ?!? I need to do this - I definitely need to drink more!

Held strong last night whilst my husband and kids had domino's pizza....will power is currently switched on but I'm so close to breaking!!

Poisonwood · 29/09/2024 10:54

@chalkyc2 that is impressive willpower!! There are various Hydration Calculators on Google, I can’t remember which I used as I used a couple to check they were basically saying the same about me 😁.

Today I’ve been for a walk on the deserted beach, very nice, and I’m making gigantes plakis and saad for dinner. Lots of herbal tea, a Bovril, decaff tea and water.

Am taking my adult DDs out for lunch, first proper test of willpower!
I did 5,000 steps extra yesterday and felt much better for it, don’t think I can fit a walk in today but will go up and down the stairs as many times as I can…dog will no doubt look at me as if I’m crazy 😁.

Did really well out, just had a pot of tea!! French onion soup at lunch and a wee bowl of yesterday’s leftovers for dinner. Lots to drink.

Amazing @Poisonwood !! Are you not starting though that doesn't sound very much for a whole day!!

Eye on the prize here and holding steady.... have a work event tonight but am hoping for lots of fizzy water!

chalkyc2 · 01/10/2024 08:45

*starving...not starting!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 01/10/2024 09:20

Hi all, well done on the losses and the will power! Really impressive! I think I would be really annoyed at my DH is he ate Domino's pizza in front of me knowing that I was trying to make healthy choices!!

I didn't have the best of weekend diet-wise. I was solo-parenting as DH was away for the weekend and my entire weekend was taken up with taking my 3 DC here, there and everywhere for work/hobbies/matches/parties. I went for quick convenience food, snacked too much, didn't drink enough water and drank too much wine in the evenings!

Yesterday, I had a Monday reset and had a much better day. Ate low-carb and drank plenty of water and felt much better for it at bed time. I always feel a sense of achievement getting through the day knowing I've had a good food day!

Today, I've had my morning coffee and 2 glasses of water. I'm going to the gym and will then have a high protein lunch...maybe an omelette. I'm making a Mexican pork poke bowl for dinner tonight. My snack of choice is apple slices with peanut butter. Must drink water. Must stay away from the biscuit cupboard!!

I do find that writing my food plan down for the day helps to keep me on track.

Poisonwood · 01/10/2024 19:28

@chalkyc2 hope the work do went/is going well. Nope, I’m not really thinking about food at all really…been very stressful and busy couple of weeks so think that’s had an effect…when I was younger I’d eat more but now I find my body doesn’t want to eat much when stressed. Maybe after gallstones a few years ago it knows not to risk it.

@CoffeeChocolateWine ypur dinner sounds very nice! Glad you are in the zone now.

A good day food and fluids wise. Some exercise too. I made a nice new soup - broth mix and roasted red pepper & tomato. Topped it with Greek yoghurt and pumpkin seeds and everyone wolfed it down. Did 10 portions for the freezer.

Tomorrow I’m doing a hearty chicken stew and dumplings, lots of veg as well. Yum.

chalkyc2 · 03/10/2024 07:58

Oh @Poisonwood gallstones!! I had those a couple of years ago and eventually had my gallbladder out. I've never known pain like it!! My digestion has never quite been the same either although all good mostly.

Keeping on track here. Survived the work event (fizzy water - tough because it was freezing and there was a pizza truck!). Eye on a mini deadline if going away for a few days at half term!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 03/10/2024 09:45

Checking in! Still keeping on track so far this week. I've stuck to my food plan with no slip-ups ( it would not be unusual to cave by Wednesday so getting to Thursday feels like a small win!!)

I haven't actually weighed myself at all yet...I feel like the tightness of my jeans tells me everything I need to know without the number on the scale aggressively staring me in the face!! So my first target is a non-numerical one...I just want my jeans to fit more comfortably and I hope that will be the case by Monday.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 03/10/2024 09:48

Today's plan for accountability:
Morning - coffee and gym
Brunch - avocado on toast with poached eggs
Snack - apple and peanut butter
Dinner - seafood pizza on a cauliflower base

Poisonwood · 03/10/2024 23:13

@chalkyc2 I’m glad the work do went well. Ooh to going away at half term…I’d been really looking forward to doing the same but DP has been quite poorly recently and I think we need rest at home more than anything else.

@CoffeeChocolateWine I know exactly what you mean, my jeans are not comfortable and I will feel much better when they are! I was looking at yoga pants today as would like some soft trousers for non-jeans days lol, but there’s no point buying in the size I am now but also no point jinxing my weight loss goals by buying the size down precipitously.

Today has been a good day, though I could have drunk more. I do think bloating is an issue at times and I want to look at possible solutions. Weighing on Saturday.

I'm struggling to refocus myself. I'm not in my groove yet, food wise. I'm struggling to exercise which is unusual for me, (down to a really busy few weeks, and I incurred a running injury in a race 3 weeks ago which has made it difficult)
To be honest, my mood is dreadful, I'm tired and irritable. I keep starting the day with good intentions and then I'll go rummaging for chocolate or biscuits. I'm not sleeping well either.

I need to get my plan sorted for what I'm actually going to do, then stick to it. The key culprits for me are bread, dairy and sugar, so I need to work out how to get these out of my life for a few weeks to get properly started.

Poisonwood · 04/10/2024 14:03

My birthday. Not being a great one tbh but hey ho. Tomato soup for lunch and doubt I’ll eat again as stressed. I will drink though.
