Only one in wedding party not on injections

Snowdrops17 · 20/09/2024 13:42

So I will be part of a wedding party next year and the bride and other bridesmaids are all on weight loss injections , I'm 3 months post Partum and even if I wanted to can't afford the injections. I'm really hoping I can lose the weight I feel sick at the thought of being the "fat" one . I can't work out yet as I have a very fussy baby who is constantly tired and will only nap on me I'm living for when she is a bit bigger so I can have some me time back. I've done keto before with success so debating if I should give it another go I realistically need to lose 40/50 pounds in a year . Any advice very welcome

It's a year away and you're 3 months pp. The time to start worrying about this is New Year's Day (though obviously don't spend the next few months making up for sleep deprivation eith hot chocolate and Krispy Kreme, do make an effort to keep your energy up in healthier ways)

Are your mates all obese? Or are they getting the drugs through dubious means?

When you say you "need" to lose 40/50 pounds, what sort of BMI would that take you down to?

Mrsttcno1 · 20/09/2024 13:52

Oh please don’t worry about this OP! You can absolutely do this without any kind of crazy diet or weight loss injections if you want to. 40lb in a year is about 3.5lb a month, that is not a massive amount to lose and especially as you are still only 3 months postpartum you may find a lot of that weight just drops off in the next few months anyway as your body adjusts! I’m a little bit over 5 months postpartum now and back to just under my pre pregnancy weight, I haven’t done any crazy restrictive diet or extreme exercise, just a generally healthy diet & some exercise plus lots of walking with the pram! I also have a velcro baby so know how you feel! My main advice would be to prep your meals ahead of time because when you’re tired and especially with a baby who doesn’t want to be put down the temptation to just grab biscuits/crisps/chocolate rather than stand at the oven or hob is huge. I prep all my lunches on a Sunday night so that through the week I just have to pop them in the microwave for 2 mins and I’m good to go so would definitely recommend that! Other than that I just spend lots of time out walking and go to the gym/for a run a few times a week, nothing crazy, be kind to yourself x

Gosh, how is it that everyone is on weight loss injections? People don't have a clue what they are injecting into their bodies. Just some random concoction ordered on line so they will look good but at what cost to their health. You can lose weight the traditional way as soon as you are ready.

desparateidiot · 20/09/2024 14:09

Do you have a pram - I lost my baby weight walking. I lived in a village and every morning i walked 2 miles and the weight dropped off - and DS slept like a dream with all the fresh air

But please, don't pressure yourself to dramatically lose weight.

It takes 9 months for your body to prepare to give birth - it takes around 9 months for your body to completely return to normal

They do work though, just make sure you get the ones that are approved by the medical council

SwiftiesVSLestat · 20/09/2024 14:17

You have loads of time.

Injections are a perfectly valid choice (assuming non are lying to get or getting it from dodgy sources, then it’s concerning) As is not taking them. And of course some people can’t because of medications, cost etc.

You have a year. If you eat into a small calories deficit (and assuming you can stick to it) the weight will come off.

But also, don’t hold so value on not being the ‘fat’ one. By default, one of you is always going to be the largest. Even if you are all slim, you won’t all be exactly the same size. Your size isn’t and indicator of your worth.

Would you be judging one of the others for being the ‘the fat one’, as much as you are judging yourself over it? Be kinder to yourself.

theemmadilemma · 20/09/2024 14:17

Ahh the modern world. Stick a few needles in me to get trim for an event.

I've seen so many posts, and so few people seem to be using these as they were intended - a learning tool - and everyone is taking the quick fix. And so companies profit. And yes, less obesity related illness would be great, but I feel like we're just stacking up another set of different issues which will cost the same to deal with down the road.

DrinkElephants · 20/09/2024 14:29

Are you breastfeeding. I lost two stone of my pre baby weight by doing nothing post partum and the only thing I can put it down to is breastfeeding.

edited to add I’m same BMI as you and also have a wedding next year when I’m bridesmaid and also hoping to lose some weight so I understand where you’re coming from. I’d feel so much pressure too if the other bridesmaids were doing injections :(

My plan is when I go back to work next month to start the gym at lunch time. When I’ve lost weight in the past it’s been because I’ve kept busy.

iateallthechocolat3 · 20/09/2024 14:30

You'll get there OP. I'm now 10 months pp and Just looked at my fitness pal log. it took me six months to lose 35lb from the weight you are now- I'm also the same height.

No dieting or exercising, very much just being a mum and 'running around'. So with healthy choices and walking the baby in the pram you'll be fine x

CharlotteBog · 20/09/2024 14:33

Dress fitters must be having a really tough time with all the people losing so much weight quite quickly.

Why do you assume they are taking a random concoction and not approved weight loss drugs? (Which are NOT some random concoction!)

RhubarbAndCustardSweets · 20/09/2024 14:35

You don't need injections OP.

DH and I have lost loads of weight this year. No fad diet or miracle drug. Just plain old fashioned calorie counting and plenty of exercise. Walking mostly.

It just takes discipline and being honest with yourself about what you are eating.

Because there are a lot of counterfeit drugs on line and it’s not always clear which are genuine and which are fake. The world health organisation have had to issue warnings about it. Plenty of intelligent people have been fooled and ended up in hospital.

But you have no idea about this specific group of people?

I would questions someone’s intelligence if they are not getting through pharmacy. Intelligent people do not go get prescription medication, through dodgy sources.

Of course people buying dodgy medication will end up in hospital. But again, you have no idea if this applies to this group of people.

You have just assumed they probably are.

It's really clear if you are ordering from a real pharmacy or a fake one. Only gullible people who are trying to do it on the cheap are likely to buy fake jabs. Can you link to any news stories about intelligent people taking fake GLP1 drugs and ending up in hospital? I'd be interested to read about the issue.

GoneIsAnotherSummersDay · 20/09/2024 15:32

I went out for a longish walk every evening with DD in the pram. I did it because otherwise she was grumpy in the evenings. It really helped with keeping me fit.

If you can lose a little weight in a sensible healthy way without injecting stuff you'll be in a better place than if you were to lose weight quickly with drugs.

Peonies12 · 20/09/2024 15:46

You should be happy, you're the only one not risking your health with an injection that has no long term data.

Unfortunately my DD won't sleep I'm in the pram she is a nightmare for sleep I end up with an overtired fussy baby so even that isn't an option right now .

40/50lbs in a year is perfectly doable. In fact if you lose at that rate it'll be very gradual, which will improve your chances of keeping the weight off.

To what extent are you currently aware of how many calories you are consuming? This is where you need to start really, which can be difficult with a new baby in the house. You don't need to be weighing food to the gram but I think the best starting place is having a rough idea. Then you can work out your TDEE (amount of energy you burn per day with exercise taken into account) and BMR (amount of energy you'd burn even if you were motionless in bed all day). There are calculators online to help you do this. Then you put yourself in a VERY modest deficit and see how you get on. Don't go too drastic as you'll make yourself miserable and give up.

If all of that feels like too much with a new baby then you won't do yourself any harm waiting a few months. 1-2 pounds per week is considered a good rate of weight loss so you've got time.

Theredjellybean · 20/09/2024 15:53

Maybe a sling ? That is good for fussy/refluxy baby.
My DD 1 would not settle in pram...I walked miles with her in a sling

Pibrea · 20/09/2024 15:54

Good God is this what women have been reduced to? The worst thing you can imagine is being the fat one? We’re all just competing against each other to shrink away quickest, using any means possible, including injecting ourselves with drugs bought online.

I knew my opinion wouldn’t be a popular one because so many people do buy weight loss injections on line.I think most people would like to believe they are smart enough to spot a scam when they see one but they don’t always. Just worth remembering not everything is as it seems. Now let’s not derail the thread any further.

Yeah they work and the side effects are thyroid cancer and kidney damage. So they will need to cure those next, the amount of people that are going to have them in the next 10 years.
