Only one in wedding party not on injections

Snowdrops17 · 20/09/2024 13:42

So I will be part of a wedding party next year and the bride and other bridesmaids are all on weight loss injections , I'm 3 months post Partum and even if I wanted to can't afford the injections. I'm really hoping I can lose the weight I feel sick at the thought of being the "fat" one . I can't work out yet as I have a very fussy baby who is constantly tired and will only nap on me I'm living for when she is a bit bigger so I can have some me time back. I've done keto before with success so debating if I should give it another go I realistically need to lose 40/50 pounds in a year . Any advice very welcome

Sorry I must have missed the bit where OP asked for opinions on people taking weight loss jabs or the jabs themselves.

lol I'm just not reading those

Opt out now on the basis of what are you going to do with a 1 yr old all day at a wedding ;) Then lose weight at your own pace. You have enough hassle and stress in your life right now with a newborn. You'll be back on MN in a few weeks when they've booked a hen weekend in New York, a UK hen and some sort of spa weekend for the bridal party all of which you'll be expected to fund

Well I might not be in the bridal party after all as I won't be leaving my baby to go on a hens and I don't have the money on maternity leave to fund it Halo

I suggest getting your priorities in order and focussing on what is important, your child.

My child is extremely well taken care of thanks , I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to get fit and healthy without weigh loss injections ?

Blimey, I would have thought that on the Weight Loss Chat section people might understand what it feels like to feel down about your weight and worried about big social occasions like weddings.

OP, it's a long time away and 40 to 50 pounds across a year is only up to 1 pound loss a week. Very doable, whether that's Keto or something else.Lots of people have success with intermittent fasting, as per the Michael Moseley Fast 800 programme.

It's hard when you're trapped under a napping baby and you're sleep deprived, so try not to put too much pressure on yourself or give yourself a lot of negative self-talk.

Thank you yes surprised how mean people are , literally want to get fit and healthy and do it the right way . I don't see what's wrong with wanting to be happy and healthy in myself .

Because there are a lot of counterfeit drugs on line and it’s not always clear which are genuine and which are fake. The world health organisation have had to issue warnings about it. Plenty of intelligent people have been fooled and ended up in hospital.

I wouldn't class anyone as intelligent if they buy prescription only medications, weight loss or otherwise, from anywhere other than a registered pharmacy. It is not hard to check.

And the rest of the bridal party will spend a lot of time talking about the wondrous injections 😴

I'd stop focusing on the bridal party and just enjoy this lovely phase of parenthood for all the good things. Get out in the fresh air when you can, try to choose foods that are enjoyable as well as nutritious, walk as much as possible and you'll likely tone up and feel good even if you don't drop several dress sizes between now and the wedding.

FWIW one of the most beautiful people I've known is someone who always carried a bit of extra weight but was secure in herself. She always looked fab (probably still does but we've lost touch).

Choochoo21 · 20/09/2024 18:21

You can lose weight without the injections, you just need more willpower.

From now until NYE download my fitness pal, stick to a calorie limit and focus on eating whole foods.
Get out as much as you can for walks or just do things like clean the home when you get a chance.

Then from NYD do the keto if this works for you.

You have only recently had a baby.
Don’t bed too hard on yourself!

Use these friends as motivation to keep on track.
Don’t worry if you fall off, just start again the next day.

Its not one or the other.

Agreed, I think it's hugely beneficial as a parent to get healthy.

A focus of looking a certain way for a wedding is the off priority I'm talking about. I think with a young child the focus should be on the child and not on how someone will look in a photograph.

So you haven't actually provided anything to back up your claim

No. Did you assume those links were from me without reading the handle? How gullible.

No, I didn't, as you'd know if you read my responses where it's clear I know you aren't the poster who posted the links. It's easy to read usernames. I'm pointing out that you made a claim and have not backed it up, I suspect because you can't, and your claim is based on your personal bias and not any actual evidence, right?

Yeah they work and the side effects are thyroid cancer and kidney damage. So they will need to cure those next, the amount of people that are going to have them in the next 10 years.

I know this probably unfair on the OP but this is not right. Rats got a specific type of thyroid cancer, no human has been reported as having thyroid cancer. Ozempic is kidney protective and not linked to kidney damage. I'm currently having kidney issues and the nephrologist sees no reason to remove ozempic although she adjusted my other meds.

If you're going to scaremonger, at least get the facts right!

Good luck OP, I lost weight very quickly after both of my births.

Fingerscrossedfor2021HK · 21/09/2024 02:42

@Snowdrops17 - try wearing your baby in a sling and start off by just doing lots of walking. As awake windows increase you’ll have more time for yourself as naps also start to improve / lengthen.

As for eating, try having half an avocado and a boiled egg for breakfast every morning. For lunch, crudités and hummus plus some crackers or pitta etc is a winner and then try to keep supper quite veg heavy - in summer, I like salad with grilled chicken. When it gets colder, can do brown rice with stir fry veg etc. Try stick to this eg Monday to friday and then cut yourself some slack at weekends so you don’t drive yourself mad!

Also, you probably know this but for some of us breastfeeding keeps some extra weight on - I only ever managed a couple of months of bf and found that I lost weight much more easily once I had stopped.

Ignore the posters criticizing you for wanting to lose weight - it’s perfectly fine to want your body back after having a baby! And well done you for not using weight loss injections as a quick fix. You don’t have a huge amount to lose and I promise you can do it quite easily with diet and exercise. Good luck!!!

I would rather be temporarily ‘overweight’ than permanently saggy and crinkle skinned. I don’t think I would try to lose any weight until a year post partum.

If op losing weight will make her saggy and crinkled skinned. It would do that wether she starts losing weight now or in a year.

Theres no evidence that waiting a year after child birth makes you less saggy. That’s an awful thing to suggest to Op.

Probably some of the same people that turned down the Covid vaccine as they ‘didn’t know what was in it.’

What are you on about. This is commonly known both in post partum recovery and weight loss independently let alone when combined.

Mintyt · 21/09/2024 10:28

I second walking. Putting the baby in a pram and a nice long walk will do you and the baby the world of good. Remember a 1lb a week is over 3stone in a year

No it’s not.

Who is recommending that you get less ‘crinkly’ lot ‘saggy’ if you wait a year before trying to lose weight?

what’s the science behind that?

I don’t put on any extra weight in my pregnancies. I can thank horrendous sickness for that. I still take a year to get back to normal size.

Your diastis, core and internal organs (like, womb, intestines etc) literally reorganise themselves post partum. It’s recommended you not rush this process. It can be sped up but in most cases will naturally go back by itself in around the same time it took to get into that state in the first place (ie. 9 or so months). Sometimes it does need some corrective help with the diastis, core engagement or pelvic tilt. I don’t start exercise at all (bar yoga) until 9 months PP. It’s just the way I like to do it as I think it’s super important to let your body rest.

Shrinking rapidly does cause skin laxity problems. If it doesn’t bother Op it’s no problem. Personally it’s something I’m super aware of and I purposefully try really hard to actually put on some weight so it doesn’t go too quickly (which is difficult with breastfeeding). And that’s just a plain post partum recovery, not an extra aim of 25% body weight loss.

This is just my opinion. OP nor you don’t have to do anything with this opinion at all. And no I don’t regret sharing it at all. It’s the first thing I tell anyone who asks post partum body advice. Take your time! Focus on the big picture.

No one is saying rush the process.

Yes losing weight quickly could (not will) cause some issues with skin elasticity.

But no one has told Op to lose weight quickly, not even had op said she wants to lose it very quickly. Even Ops friends on injections won’t lose huge amounts very quickly. Thats not how it works. Unless you are using them to starve yourself. And no one recommends that.

Again, there’s no evidence Ops skin would be saggy or crinkly if she loses weight over the next year. There’s absolutely no extra benefit to waiting til one year after giving birth.

It can be your opinion. But it’s based on nothing factual at all. And people can challenge that opinion. Especially when you are claiming that the options are wait a year before trying to lose weight or end up saggy and wrinkly.

It’s not an either or. There’s no evidence starting to lose weight in the year after you have given birth, will damage recovery or skin elasticity. Unless done in an unhealthy way.

You also claimed that waiting a year is commonly known in regards to post partum recovery and weight loss. It’s not. It’s just something you believe.

You have plenty of time to lose the weight steadily and healthily. After both my two (who were very fussy, non-sleeping babies) I ended up slimmer than I was pre-pregnancy, just through eating well, not drinking any alcohol, and running and walking a lot with the buggy.

It was harder after DC2 when I had a baby plus a toddler on a buggy board, but definitely helped shift the weight fairly rapidly!

Also, Caroline Girvans YouTube videos are brilliant, and you can do them at home with minimal equipment. Even just half an hour while the baby naps (or lays next to you) makes a huge difference.
