Only one in wedding party not on injections

Snowdrops17 · 20/09/2024 13:42

So I will be part of a wedding party next year and the bride and other bridesmaids are all on weight loss injections , I'm 3 months post Partum and even if I wanted to can't afford the injections. I'm really hoping I can lose the weight I feel sick at the thought of being the "fat" one . I can't work out yet as I have a very fussy baby who is constantly tired and will only nap on me I'm living for when she is a bit bigger so I can have some me time back. I've done keto before with success so debating if I should give it another go I realistically need to lose 40/50 pounds in a year . Any advice very welcome

OP posts:

Yeah they work and the side effects are thyroid cancer and kidney damage. So they will need to cure those next, the amount of people that are going to have them in the next 10 years.

I don't think you understand what a side effect is

doodleschnoodle · 20/09/2024 16:10

Sorry I must have missed the bit where OP asked for opinions on people taking weight loss jabs or the jabs themselves.

40/50lbs in a year is perfectly doable. In fact if you lose at that rate it'll be very gradual, which will improve your chances of keeping the weight off.

To what extent are you currently aware of how many calories you are consuming? This is where you need to start really, which can be difficult with a new baby in the house. You don't need to be weighing food to the gram but I think the best starting place is having a rough idea. Then you can work out your TDEE (amount of energy you burn per day with exercise taken into account) and BMR (amount of energy you'd burn even if you were motionless in bed all day). There are calculators online to help you do this. Then you put yourself in a VERY modest deficit and see how you get on. Don't go too drastic as you'll make yourself miserable and give up.

If all of that feels like too much with a new baby then you won't do yourself any harm waiting a few months. 1-2 pounds per week is considered a good rate of weight loss so you've got time.

Agree with the above.

Just begin by weighing your food and trying to stick to round numbers e.g 50g of something rather than a random blob.

Then download a calorie tracker (I like MyNetDiary) and see how things are adding up.

I started this a couple of weeks ago and it has been quite surprising how much difference certain foods make.

One person, who took something sold by a friend of a friend. That's not evidence of a phenomenon of intelligent people taking fake Glp1 medication by mistake after believing it was real and being fooled by online fake pharmacies, which is what pp suggested is happening on a widespread basis. Any articles that actually support that claim?

CharlotteBog · 20/09/2024 16:13

Are you breastfeeding OP?
It's fine that you want to get in better shape. You and your baby will benefit from that, but please go easy on yourself. With some small changes (ie. ones that you will stick to) you will notice a change soon enough. Enjoy your baby.

HmmWhatNameToHave · 20/09/2024 16:15

You need to manage your hunger by managing your blood sugar levels. So start with a low sugar low refined carb breakfast like a couple of eggs, spinach and a tomato or a few berries, some plain yoghurt a section of seeds. Much better than toast or cereal. Then soup for lunch, with some beans for the fibre, it will keep you full. Have a look at 'Zoe' Instagram for lots of lower calorie, high fiber meals.
Your baby will get easier to manage. It's is so exhausting in the first 6 months, try swaddling your little one, and using a blanket on you when you hold them so that you can put the blanket and baby down together, not such a big change. You can get lullaby players that play sea or heart beat sounds which we found soothed our little one. My second child required my husband taking a week off work to help the baby to learn to sleep without me! Luckily it made a huge difference having us both to work through the sleeplessness.

Opt out now on the basis of what are you going to do with a 1 yr old all day at a wedding ;) Then lose weight at your own pace. You have enough hassle and stress in your life right now with a newborn. You'll be back on MN in a few weeks when they've booked a hen weekend in New York, a UK hen and some sort of spa weekend for the bridal party all of which you'll be expected to fund

You asked the poster to link to article, she did, now you are saying well that's not evidence (as we all know!) so why ask? 🙄

I knew my opinion wouldn’t be a popular one because so many people do buy weight loss injections on line.I think most people would like to believe they are smart enough to spot a scam when they see one but they don’t always. Just worth remembering not everything is as it seems. Now let’s not derail the thread any further.

its not that it’s popular. its incorrect.

The government warning or the linked article is not about people getting scammed or believing they are purchasing with a prescription, when they aren’t.

They know, full well, they are getting it legitimately.

The government warning is regarding people buying them without prescription and the article is someone who bought it from a. Friend of friend. Both those things are not intelligent decisions.

and again, you have assumed this group must be getting their this way. You don’t know that. Since most people have them prescribed.

You derailed the thread. You don’t get to then shut down people responding, by wanting to not derail the thread.

You could have just given the op some helpful advice or encouragement. But you could help inserting some misinformation.

I asked for evidence of what she claimed, that lots of intelligent people are falling for fake pharmacies online and being hospitalised due to fake GLP1s. That link is to an article about ONE person who took some random stuff from a friend. That's not evidence of what the poster claimed.

GuestFeatu · 20/09/2024 16:53

OldieButBaddie · 20/09/2024 16:42

That article is from 11 months ago, when there was a shortage, Wegovy was 4 months old and Mounjaro hadn't yet been licenced. That's also not evidence of the claim.

Mebebecat · 20/09/2024 17:01

Honestly no. If you have an ounce of sense you will not buy a random concoction. Intelligent people have not been fooled.
People who have been fooled have bought from a friend, their beautician, an unregistered overseas company or an uncertified 'prescriber' If you are not capable of checking this stuff you shouldn't be allowed out of the house let alone allowed to do your own shopping.

I didn’t provide those links. Other posters did.

DillDanding · 20/09/2024 17:05

40-50 pounds is easily achievable in that time frame. Keep breast feeding if you are. I could not gain weight when I was breastfeeding - it just fell off me.

Chaseandstatus · 20/09/2024 17:05

Fuck me, it’s a wedding, the size and shape of the attendees will not make or break the marriage and lifelong commitment that the day is all about.

By all means get yourself fit and healthy if that’s how you want to feel. But don’t stress about your size on one day in a whole lifetime.

GuestFeatu · 20/09/2024 17:06

whosthefoolnow · 20/09/2024 17:04

So you haven't actually provided anything to back up your claim

PinaOcado · 20/09/2024 17:11

whosthefoolnow · 20/09/2024 14:06

Gosh, how is it that everyone is on weight loss injections? People don't have a clue what they are injecting into their bodies. Just some random concoction ordered on line so they will look good but at what cost to their health. You can lose weight the traditional way as soon as you are ready.

Exactly. I think Darwinism may be at play - you could be the only one standing by the time the wedding comes round.

Hotsweatymumsspagetti · 20/09/2024 17:11

Are you breastfeeding? Only because that burns calories, work out your TDEE number and if you are breastfeeding eat your maintenance calories.

You have one don’t be too hard on yourself. Try not to focus on your weight. Focus on eating a bit healthier. Have snacks prepped ready to go like carrots - fruit - popcorn etc. I know when your tired it’s so easy to say sod it im eat x/y/z. One bad day doesn’t have to equal a bad week

SwiftiesVSLestat · 20/09/2024 17:12

whosthefoolnow · 20/09/2024 17:04

I didn’t provide those links. Other posters did.

I didn’t say YOU did.

i was referencing them as they are part of the thread.

Do you have links to stories about people thinking they had got the injections with a prescription and it wasn’t true? And it was a scam any intelligent person could fall for?

Skyrainlight · 20/09/2024 17:13

I suggest getting your priorities in order and focussing on what is important, your child.

Coruscations · 20/09/2024 17:13

I feel sick at the thought of being the "fat" one

If this is true, you seriously need to reassess your priorities.

swallowedAfly · 20/09/2024 17:16

As I’m pretty sick of hearing 95% of weight loss happens in the kitchen so don’t worry about not being able to hit the gym regularly at the minute.

Up your protein, drink tonnes of water, walk as much as you can and minimise empty calories as much as you

Later when you’re fully recovered and getting sleep throw in the odd fast.

I’ve lost 43 in 6 months despite having to be very sedentary due to health issues.

Some of the pregnancy should melt off. I lost my pregnancy weight and then some in a year despite the fact I slept with giant bars of galaxy next to my bed for night feeds 😂

SilenceInside · 20/09/2024 17:19

Blimey, I would have thought that on the Weight Loss Chat section people might understand what it feels like to feel down about your weight and worried about big social occasions like weddings.

OP, it's a long time away and 40 to 50 pounds across a year is only up to 1 pound loss a week. Very doable, whether that's Keto or something else.Lots of people have success with intermittent fasting, as per the Michael Moseley Fast 800 programme.

It's hard when you're trapped under a napping baby and you're sleep deprived, so try not to put too much pressure on yourself or give yourself a lot of negative self-talk.
