All I want is a filthy, greasy Chinese takeaway

A beige, deep fried mountain of fat and carbs, smothered with curry sauce and prawn crackers 😭🤤

Instead, I'm having a huff because I've been trying to lose weight for over 18 months, I'm more or less the same weight despite tracking every morsel of food I eat, going to the gym 3 times, going to the GP for blood tests, taking Orlistat, cutting out pretty much every food I enjoy and having only rich tea biscuits as a treat.

So now I'm starving and having a sulk because I don't bloody well want chicken and veg, a chicken wrap, omelette or jacket potato AGAIN. Just checked the kitchen cupboard thinking I could have a treat tea of beans and sausages on toast only to find we just have the normal beans and NOT the ones with the sausages 😭

Not even sure why I'm still bothering but if I give in I'm just going to get even bigger.

That's it, that's my rant. And breeeeaathe...

Have the Chinese! And then reconsider what diet you’re following. No weight loss in 18 months is ridiculous.

Marlena1 · 04/07/2024 18:25

Can you not have one night off a week? Have what like this evening and go back to rotune tomorrow? That's what I did years and years ago when I did WW. I looked forward to Tuesday nights but was great the rest of the week. If I wanted something I would think "Tuesday night".

TheChosenTwo · 04/07/2024 18:27

honestly if you’ve been so strict for 18 months and not lost a single pound it’s not working and you should probably just enjoy the bloody Chinese.
i do my own version of low carbing which means I don’t eat bread/pasta/rice/potatoes during the week but at the weekend I’ll usually have one or two of those things.
It’s more sustainable.

MollyWintertime · 04/07/2024 18:28

Honestly this is why I gave up gym and dieting !!! Pointless and I'm hardly huge so I thought sod it.

MrsMonzo · 04/07/2024 18:32

I just don't know where I could be going wrong, I worked out my TDEE, eat the recommended amount of calories to lose 1lb a week, I'm so strict with making sure I'm not going over that I weigh my salad and vegetables, yet I lose some weight then spend the next 2 weeks gaining it back before repeating the cycle. I've cut my calories down to 1,500 (which as a 5'8 nearly 17st woman I SHOULD be losing weight on) and still, same thing happens.

@BIWI I've followed low carb high fat before (you've helped me on a few occasions, many usernames ago 😁) but I just don't feel like I could go back to that way of eating, I found it so depressing although I did lose a LOT of weight. Do you think it really is a case of not the amount of calories I'm eating but what the calories are made of? Towards the end of my low carb journey I really struggled to get my fat up and my protein and carbs down and I just wasn't enjoying the food.

I know it sounds silly @Marlena1 but I feel like if I have one occasion off and then gain weight, I will kick myself at having that meal off. But then even when I don't deviate, I still gain weight ANYWAY. I'm just exhausted having to think about it anymore.

Could you get Chinese spice and do a fakeaway kebab.... when you want something they're worth a go, plain yoghurt with a bit of mint sauce as a dressing.

It you like Chinese curry sauce another fakeaway at home using Young's chip shop packet sauce which is brilliant doesn't murder your intake if you don't pig it by scoffing 2 pints of the stuff!!

BIWI · 04/07/2024 18:35

But it doesn’t sound like you’re enjoying your food on this regime either!

Cerialkiller · 04/07/2024 18:36

Agreed about just eating it. There are healthier options if you want to avoid the next day guilt e.g. beef in oyster sauce with special rice while still getting that satisfying flavour and avoiding the hassle of cooking.

Well done for holding out for 18months though. That's impressive will power. If I go for two weeks without a loss I go into fuck it mode.

The only thing that has finally helped is mounjaro.

Drttc · 04/07/2024 18:39

Intermittent fasting may be better as it’ll keep your metabolism on its toes!

Crikeyalmighty · 04/07/2024 18:44

I had king prawns and mushrooms in black bean sauce from the good Chinese and poured it over a portion of packet cauliflower rice which I stir fried with some soy sauce to give it a bit more taste-
Delicious!!

Oblomov24 · 04/07/2024 18:59

Being on a diet is fucking miserable. It just is.

AndSoItBeginsAtLeast · 04/07/2024 18:59

Tbh after 18 months of not losing weight, you’re not in a calorie deficit.

I say this as an obese 52 year old menopausal woman who started my weight loss in January. First month I lost nothing at all - turned out my maintenance and deficit calories were wrong and my macros were out of whack completely.

joined a gym, got a PT who worked out my calories and told me the amount of protein to aim for, I’m now 4st down and losing inches with working out. I fast from 8pm until lunch time and eat my calories between midday and 8pm.
please don’t be disheartened, it can be done I promise you xx

Sorry, but I most definitely am in a deficit. I have worked out my TDEE based on my height, weight and activity level (sedentary, I'm an office worker)

I weigh and track everything I eat and log it to the gram. We cook most of our food from scratch 8 create a recipe, weigh the total amount of food produced, split it into correct portions sizes and log it. If I make it again but the ingredients vary, I make sure to go back into the recipe and change it he ingredients/weight.

I'm not sitting at home stuffing my face with chocolate that I conveniently "forget" to log, otherwise I wouldn't be so bloody pissed off because I know I would only have myself to blame.

AuntMarch · 04/07/2024 19:19

Are you using a particular app for tracking?

1500 sounds low if anything. Which can make it slower, but id still think after 18 months you'd be down some.
How often are you weighing? I find weekly the least helpful, and don't understand why people choose that!

MrsMonzo · 04/07/2024 19:39

I used My Fitness Pal, my profile is probably about 13 years old!

I weigh in weekly, however everytime I step on the scales instead of having a positive, excited feeling because I know I've stuck to my goals, I now just feel sick at the thought of getting on them because I know no matter how well I think I've done the scales are going to give me a punch in the gut 😂 so I've decided now I'm ditching the scales and taking measurements. I have a pair of jeans I cannot breathe in so I'm going to try them on in the vain hope they get more comfortable!

Believe it or not I am usually a happy person, I'm just feeling very sorry for myself today after seeing the pictures of the Dominos my colleague has just eaten (colleague is doing SW, we weigh in and check in together to support each other) She is doing fantastically well and has lost over a stone (at a much lower starting weight to me!)

Also, ended up getting a ready meal Chinese chicken curry, cooking some stir fry veg and buying a bag of prawn crackers. It has scratched the Chinese itch and not blown the calories budget out the window!

OP posts:
MrsWhites · 04/07/2024 19:46

That diet sounds miserable and not sustainable.

Try slimming world, I’ve always had good results with it, it’s not the fashionable diet anymore but I find it more sustainable.

In the meantime, have the Chinese and then reset with a new more manageable diet!

alwaysonadiet1 · 04/07/2024 20:02

If you don't fancy low carb, high fat, a halfway house can also work if combined with 16:8 intermittent fasting as described by a previous poster. It seems like you are trying so hard- harder than you need to- and it's not working so you need a new approach.

Thanks @alwaysonadiet1 I am have tried intermittent fasting before but found it didn't really make any difference. How strict do you have to be with it? I would normally eat between 12 and 8pm, but I worry that if I go to bed hungry I won't fall asleep. I also don't wish to go back to having black coffee, I normally have a morning coffee with no sugar almond milk which is my main motivation for getting out of bed!

@MrsMonzo maybe have a go with this calculator?
1500 seems incredibly low. I’m 5ft2, 109kg, office worker and on 2851 maintenance and 2200 deficit. I got to the gym approx 6 days a week, sometimes just to get my steps in due to being sat down all down - the biggest difference I found was weight training, really helped shift some inches

@MrsMonzo I have just water from 6 until 9, then black coffee until 12. Lunch and Dinner. No snacks. You get used to it really quickly. Fairly low carb but eating an apple a day and a few new potatoes here and there. It works... for me .... and wine Blush

Summerheels · 04/07/2024 21:32

I don’t lose weight unless I eat 1200c, fast 14hrs min and eat higher protein low carb even at 1500c I will maintain only. I exercise every day but I’m short and in my 50s. I still only lose average 1lb a week. Some bodies just like to hold onto fat. I’m now using MJ as nothing was shifting the weight despite all my best efforts and it’s been so eye opening how it impacts my desire for food. I’ve now lost 10lbs in 3weeks still doing all of the above it’s just a lot easier without my body needing sugar or constant food noise.

Birmingbacon · 04/07/2024 21:35

@MrsMonzo if I were you I’d buy some mojourno or Wegovy. I was the same as you just yoyo dieting and I’ve finally lost 2 stone since Christmas really easily by buying the injection. Love it.
