Anyone have 2-3 stone to lose but DOES NOT use injectables

dreamstates · 26/05/2024 20:33

Anyone want a support thread to drop 2-3 stone but finding the ozempic/wegovy etc threads overwhelming on here. They aren't useful to me and there are so many threads on here about the damn stuff.

A previous thread I saw basically said diet and exercise without the injectables would fail for most. I don't want to touch the stuff for a variety of reasons but mainly the hideous side effects and pile on weight when you stop. Not to mention cost.

I'm looking to do it the "old fashioned" way... 1200-1500 calories on my fitness pal and exercise increasing. No particular time limit.

SW: 12 stone 2
I'm really short too so ideally I need to be 10 stone something max

I'm 40 and deffo in perimenopause

Checking in.

After a disappointing start of just moving up and down the same 2 or so lb, I joined WeightWatchers.

So far I've lost nearly 6lb! I'm super impressed. I honestly thought my perimenopausal body was stuck. Turns out I can lose weight!

It makes me revaluate food. I just ate 3 squares of Turkish delight choc...7 points. I would normally have eaten a hell of a lot more than 3 squares!

Hope everyone else is getting on ok.

I posted earlier on this thread.
As of this morning I have lost 2 stone (and a quarter of a pound). Taken 3 months and 3 days.
Next target 2 and a half stone loss. I'd like to lose 4 in total but feeling (and looking) much better already.
Feeling very pleased with myself this morning 😁.
Good luck and best wishes to everyone else on the thread.

Bloody well done. It’s remarkable how quickly fitness improves. I’m nowhere near
my weight goal but already feel more
nimble

Hi all
after initially losing 1.5lb I stalled and lost half a pound

no junk food in the flat so that’s good

I have been struggling with more insomnia than usual and looking to go to bed shortly in the hope of a decent night tonight. I can normally cope as I’ve had it for so long but really starting to struggle.

am constantly “tired but wired” and feeling odd.

hoping to get more weight off when this resets.

haven’t got round to making a food plan but going to try to buy for a set week of planned food. I’m hoping to just stick with a week. Tbh I’m not that interested in food - unless it’s sugary! - so if I find a weeks worth that can just go in the fridge, I don’t mind repeating it and it will be easy stuff.

big event on Wednesday. I don’t drink at work things and I found something nice on the menu that isn’t ruinous so main thing is to avoid pudding.

so tired I have done less exercise because after work I feel like I could easily end up dropping a weight on my foot or something!

Progress is progress.

i empathise with the tiredness issue. I feel like I have a handle on cravings and now I have the bit between my teeth I am very motivated to keep going. But like you I just feel lethargic. It will be this that will make me throw in the towel if I get too overwhelmed by the sensation. Going to focus on making sure I get enough electrolytes and snacking on more protein like boiled eggs.

Keepthosenamesgoing · 18/06/2024 16:00

I'm really struggling to stay on the straight and narrow. It's all so tedious!

Storyland · 18/06/2024 16:30

Please can I join?

Starting weight was 11st5
Last 6 weeks has very slowly brought me down to 11st. But it's really only been this last week that I've been giving it the head space I need to stay on track.

I'm trying to do 20 min of exercise every day and eat less, and stop drinking a glass or two of wine each night.

We have a holiday mid-August with a lot of extended family. I would like to be a lot lighter by then, and want to fit back in to a sundress that I bought last year and currently can't zip up!

Corianm · 19/06/2024 23:47

Feeling very low, almost teary. Gave myself the weekend and Friday off but still kept within around 1800 calories plus exercise. And gained 2 pounds!

I have PCOS so can lose weight easily enough on 800 calories but anything more and I struggle.

Saved up my calories today for some cheese and bread. Felt like a binge. Only totalled 1200 calories for the day but still feel out of control. I don’t want to fast the entire 2.5 stone off.

Storyland · 20/06/2024 15:37

@Corianm so sorry, that's really frustrating. I hope tomorrow feels like a brighter day. There must be a way of eating less without feeling like your starving but I haven't found it yet either. Each time I've lost a lb it's been after a couple of days of having a few hours where I've felt actually hungry.

After being pretty disciplined all week with eating less and exercising, I've had a bit of a blip today. Had a big glass of Dr Pepper with lunch and crisps and a chocolate bar.

So I'm going to have a row on the rowing machine tonight and have a small portion of leftover chickpea and chorizo casserole for tea tonight. And hope that is enough to balance out the treats.

@dreamstates inspired by your post (and depressed by the scales not moving….or rather only moving upwards!) I have also started on WW again since Monday. It’s the only way I have ever reliably lost weight and I need a boost to get myself fitting back in my clothes and feeling better.

I’m enjoying it actually, I feel quite peaceful now I’ve decided to do it/ back in the groove and I am enjoying eating loads and fruit and veg and going back to all the zero point foods.

I’ve set myself a mini target of getting back under 13 stone (having weighed 13 7 this Monday morning) and an interim target of 12 stone 6, which is what I was in summer 2022. The best I’ve ever felt was when I was 10 stone 10 but that feels like a long way off at the moment!

I’m also re-listening to the Last Diet audiobook and doing the exercises. Thinking hard about why I want to change and what things will be like in 6 months if I do change has given me a good boost.

artant · 21/06/2024 13:44

Hello. This feels like it could be the thread for me. I have a lot of weight to lose. Two stone down so far this year but many more to go (I’m not attributing a number to that many as it’s more than I care to think about right now so I’m taking it a stone at a time).

I know I need to get back to WW online as I’ve done well that way in the past but so far this time I’ve been trying to create a pattern of eating that works and is sustainable. Bit of a plateau the last few weeks which I think I’m just about emerging from.

I’m reading Ultra-Processed People at the moment and that’s making a lot of sense to me (I’d previously been very sceptical).

Storyland · 21/06/2024 19:38

Welcome @artant!

I've had a mixed day. I've not eaten loads but what I have eaten has not been healthy at all...excellent one clementine.

But DH and I have just been out for an evening walk and walked 4 1/2 miles...and then shared a bag of chips from the chippy.

So yes, a mixed day. I need to get my head around planning more meals that use a lot more vegetables. That's definitely a weak spot for me.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/06/2024 19:50

Great to hear people are doing well, but for those who are feeling down, you're not alone.

I had my big work event on Wednesday, got back late (didn't fancy a hotel, just wanted to get home) and have been completely knackered till this afternoon. Fortunately, I have a quiet period coming up.

I can't say I've done particularly well at this so far ...but I am taking it more seriously now. The stupid thing is I don't have junk food in the house so it should be easier 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it's probably the amounts that I'm eating. I probably need to eat a lot less.

PotOfTulips · 21/06/2024 20:06

Following with interest....

Frlrlrubert · 21/06/2024 20:16

Checking in. I've lost a further 5lb (1.5 stones lost in 3 months), been up and down a bit the last couple of weeks as an anniversary and then Father's Day involved eating out.

Finally got to 11 stone dead on. That's half way to my goal and just creeps me into the top of the 'healthy' bmi.

Storyland · 22/06/2024 09:11

Congrats @Frlrlrubert ! That's an impressive loss!

I'm down 2lbs this morning, bringing me to 10st12, which means I've lost half a stone since starting this new push about 6 weeks ago.

I'm still in the overweight bmi though because I'm short.

Today, I'm going to town to get some proper running trainers. Now, that I'm more confident that I'm sticking with the exercise it's time to upgrade from my ASDA trainers 😁

frostyfeb1 · 22/06/2024 11:20

So I had been finding it super tricky with a non sleeping baby to get in the zone lately but I downloaded the gastric band hypnosis app - (in a moment of sleep deprived madness lol I am usually the worlds greatest sceptic) I've been using it for a week at bedtime and didn't imagine it could work because I fall asleep during it every time Blush but I weighed in this morning and I have lost 6lbs! I know probably mostly water weight but I'm still super pleased and definitely feel like it's helped me feel more in control of cravings etc - I was out with some friends last night and even managed to avoid having any pizza that was ordered in as I'd already had dinner which probably sounds ridiculous but before I would have found it so difficult to resist if it was sitting there in front of me! Hopefully everyone has a great weekend!

EmeraldRoulette · 23/06/2024 09:38

@frostyfeb1 I thought about using some sort of podcast, but I am trying not to focus on it if you see what I mean, just to be focused on other things.

I went to Marks & Spencer food yesterday for solutions to "argh, cooking" and I was disappointed.

I found it incredibly illogical in the layout - I don't know if that's just my local one because I don't really go. It certainly wasn't set out like a regular supermarket.

Was hoping to find some things that could just go in the microwave.

I've learned to avoid calorie counted type meals because they're usually chemically tasting or just grim so I didn't look at those.

But yeah generally I was just disappointed ...they didn't have any fresh stuff that you could just reheat, unless it was under a specific country meal category and then it all just seemed like...ready meals. The only ones that looked nice were pasta which I can't eat too much of because of the bloat.

I don't know if I'm missing obvious options of where to go to find what I'm after. There is that "cook food" place, but that looks similar.

I guess I was hoping to find things like a pre-done salmon and noodles or chicken and rice that I could just heat up, maybe in herbs rather than rich sauces.

Am I missing any obvious meal services that could do this? For a zero cooking experience? Like if HelloFresh actually cooked the food for you?

@EmeraldRoulette what about frozen stir fry veg? You can get a sack, then just stick them in a frying pan or wok with some frozen prawns or frozen quorn pieces, straight to wok noodles, job done!

if you wrap a salmon fillet in foil and put in the oven at 180C for 20 mins that cooks it with no washing up. I think you can microwave straight to wok noodles in the packet??

I went through a phase of having the exact same thing for dinner every night: Covent Garden soup heated in the microwave, watercress/ rocket from a packet with a bit of balsamic dressing, and ryvita with pate. It was delicious! Obviously I changed the soup and pate flavours slightly but that made enough variety. It was a period of my life when I had very little bandwidth and lived alone and it worked well.

OneDayIWillLearn · 23/06/2024 18:28

@EmeraldRoulette oh also those packets of seasoned vegetable couscous are pretty tasty in my opinion and very easy (just add water). Would make a perfect accompaniment to a bit of salmon or a couple of veggie sausages (also cook in the oven in 20 mins with no washing up if you use foil).

microwave scrambled eggs (break a couple of eggs into a bowl, mix up with a fork, microwave for 30 secs at a time for about 90 secs. Slice a bit of avocado or cherry tomato to go with it. Have it on some rye bread??

anyway maybe this sounds like too much faff compared to a ready meal but I also very much relate to the ‘don’t want to cook, don’t want to wash up’ mindset and generally hate ready meals in all their forms and meagre portion sizes so these are my go-toos when I’m in that mood!

EmeraldRoulette · 24/06/2024 10:07

Thank you for the suggestions everybody.

Last time I had "straight to wok" noodles, they were pretty grim but maybe they've improved - that was aeons ago - so I will try. I already have frozen veggies for stir fry.

Also I will try the flavoured couscous.

I can see I can put together something no fuss from my normal shop. I think I was just looking for something that made it all less boring!

I have lost another 1.5lb from this morning's weigh in.

Things look quiet at the mo so that's really good. I'm mostly at risk of eating junk when I'm rushing about.

Gutted. I had lost a steady 5lb and then went to London for three days and put it all back on again.

These things happen. If you can, get straight back on track and with luck you’ll be back to where you were very soon. Holiday/occasion gains often aren’t real and can go almost as quickly as they came.

After a distinctly unpromising week, I was actually a pound down this morning. I’m really hoping I’m escaping from the plateau I’ve been stuck on for a few weeks. It’s salad weather which should help this week, I hope.

OneDayIWillLearn · 25/06/2024 07:12

When it comes to noodles and stir fries, I would suggest jazzing them up with a bit of soy sauce. You can also get prepared ginger and garlic in little tubes that go quite a long way which also add flavour without getting into the realms of a pre-made stir fry sauce (those these are also available)!
