Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Getfits · 04/05/2024 18:23

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

Just a note for anyone cutting back on dairy to make sure you're getting enough calcium from other sources. Really important for women to look after their bone health - weight bearing exercise helps.

GypsophiliaandCarnations · 06/05/2024 18:50

The main thing is that I have stopped eating calories dense things like cake, chocolate, snacks like crisps and nuts daily. I have no self-control and will just overeat

Me too. Once the house guests have gone this evening, I'm clearing the house of any chocolate/crisps I've not yet eaten.

Problem is we have a Co-op just down the road open from 7am-10pm every day. Hoping this thread will help me Stay Strong!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 06/05/2024 19:42

@GypsophiliaandCarnations I have found it helpful to do things like buy things for lunches once for the week. Fewer trips to the shop, less temptation.

Hello! Can I join please? I have been trying to lose weight since the end of April and so far have lost 9 lbs.

I am really pleased with this but am
just really conscious that I am only half-way there and the next 9 lbs just seems like such a slog. Don't get me wrong I do feel better, I can do more and my clothes fit a bit better but it's just all encompassing. I count the calories (1200) and try to do an hour of exercise a day. I have stopped eating snacks, alcohol and puddings. I can do this and I don't mind exercise.

It's just that I have realised that this is probably my life now. If I get to my goal weight (9 stone) then I will still have to work hard to stay at that weight. It just takes over a bit and gets me down. Does anyone feel this way or have any advice?

Well done on 9lb weight loss.

I'm thinking that as I (hopefully) lose weight, I'll start to make positive changes in my diet and exercise routine (the latter won't be difficult as I currently don't have one!) Then I'll be happy to maintain my new weight because I'll be eating healthily and feeling and looking better. With the occasional treat - as opposed to the several times a day treat.

ProgressIguess · 06/05/2024 21:43

@GypsophiliaandCarnations

Thanks, yes I suppose as I get used to it and when I (hopefully) get to maintaining weight then treats will come back in but just less than before. I just love chocolate and wine ( which is why my weight started increasing in the first place!)

I realised I made a typo; diet started at the end of March not April! It's not been that quick (and feels a lot longer 😂)

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 21:46

A pretty good day here.

Had an oat milk latte and a banana before dog walk (7k steps)

Had porridge with raspberries, flax and chia seeds and peanut butter for lunch.

Dinner was homemade curry with lots of butternut squash, spinach and chickpeas. Had extra spinach leaves.

Have had two cups of hot cordial for a sweet kick, and one dark chocolate rice cake at 80 cals. Not counted total but I know this has been a decent day for me.

Have prepped tomorrow: overnight oats, leftover curry for lunch and I've made a roasted veggie and marscapone sauce for go over GF pasta for us all. Will have with salad. Being prepped the day before is key for me if I'm not to turn to easy, shit food.

Will try walk the dog in the evening tomorrow, after work.

Welcome @ProgressIguess congrats on the 9 pounds weight loss!

I lost weight in my early 20s over a year, through intensive gym workouts and calorie counting, then I maintained my weight around 9stone for over a decade. I did eat treats on a regular basis, but I burnt the calories off through Walking /commuting in London so it didn’t feel like I was “working” to maintain my weight.

So if you don’t mind exercise you might want to look into increasing your walking or something once you hit your goal and then add a few more occasional snacks into your diet - but of course the trick is not to go overboard and to keep an eye on the scale/waist size.

Nowadays there’s also a lot of low calorie recipes for things like cakes, cookies and brownies that I see on YouTube and TikTok etc. I’m hoping to try some of them once I’ve made some more progress.

This is pretty much how I see it. I've been trying to find things I like to eat and will be happy to eat in the long term, that are also healthy and enable me to lose weight at the moment. I've also set out a realistic exercise plan that I have a chance of sticking to year round. And if I don't stick to it all 100% but manage 90%, I feel I'm doing pretty well rather than feeling like I've failed.

I am facing up to the reality that pizza, a bit of chocolate, some cake or ice cream, or a small glass of wine are occasional treats. The hardest thing is that although we don't eat these things every day, my family like them so they are in the house and I have to be really strong and not eat them.

I'm not good at batch cooking, I occasionally do it but we tend to eat the rest the next day rather than freezing it.

And sometimes at the end of the week I just want an easy dinner I can put in the oven from the freezer, even though we cook healthily from fresh ingredients most of the time.

We like Crosta and Mollica frozen lasagne and pizza which are decent quality, but don't really fit into my diet plan. Although at least they do a mini pizza with some vegetables on that I can have occasionally while everyone else has a big one. But again, if I have something like that once every week or two, it's not the end of the world and I can compensate a bit the next day.

Midgetwithaplan · 07/05/2024 07:54

Hi
Can I join you? I currently weigh 77kg and want to get to 67.5kg and by July would be perfect. I'm trying to do this by cutting out the snacking and moving more. I work in a stressful job where there are always sweet things around us and have a hard time saying no, but I'm having a harder time facing up to the fact I'm going to be 40 in August and don't want to be 40 and overweight!

I'm going on holiday at the weekend and know that I'm going to put on weight, but my aim is to be under 78kg (I normally weigh in kgs rather than stone as I find the numbers less intimidating) within a week of getting back to the UK, and then I'm going to be really focused.

Would be great to have some tips on staying on track on holiday if anyone has any

GypsophiliaandCarnations · 07/05/2024 12:11

Weighing in a day late: 11st 2lb

Fluctuates so think if I'd weighed in last night I would've been 11st 5lb.

Planning on a sort of fasting. Start eating late and finish early. And no biscuits etc.

LaPalmaLlama · 07/05/2024 13:56

Hi everyone - weighed in yesterday at 10st 13lbs (ahem- a little more than I expected😂) and I'm aiming to get to 10st 3lbs by the time the DC break up for summer hols (thanks god I'm not Scottish or I'd never make it).

Didn't have the best day yesterday food wise but did get out for a lovely run with my friend along the beach. Longer solo run this morning (28k) as I wont have any other opportunity this week/weekend. Weather really buoyed my mood- definitely got my Vitamin D fix.

Welcome to @Midgetwithaplan and any other newcomers.

ProgressIguess · 07/05/2024 15:38

Thanks @Getfits ! That is really helpful to hear that it is possible. Fingers crossed that it gets easier soon!

NarrowGate · 07/05/2024 15:40

It’s really interesting reading all your measurements ladies, as despite having only one more stone to go, my waist is still 36cm in circumference. Bust is 35cm and hips are 38cm. I’m obviously apple shaped which I know is really dangerous to health, although thankfully I don’t have a sweet tooth and was clear at my last diabetes health check.

I have found 16-8 amazingly effective for weight lossuntil now, but really need to get to grips with my diet itself, which is much too reliant on carbs, the terrible legacy of my vegetarian youth, and man-sized portions courtesy of my other half.

I’ve also become very sedentary since moving to a rural area. Everything involves driving, so getting 10,000 steps in daily on roads definitely not suited to pedestrians is a real challenge. Having said that, I managed it today so feeling very happy with myself.
Hope you all have a great week.

I weigh 61.3 kg today.

alrightluv · 07/05/2024 16:57

@NarrowGate I hope you mean inches?

shearwater2 · 07/05/2024 17:01

May I join please? I'm 12 stone 7lbs (weighed this morning) and trying to get to 11stone. I've been hovering around the 12.5 stone marks for ages but haven't got below 12st 3lbs yet. I've just cut calories from 1700 to 1400 for the next few weeks (Nutracheck default). I'm 5'7" so about 11st 6lbs is the tipping point into normal BMI.

I have lost a stone recently and quite a lot of inches helped by doing weights and cardio regularly but the last stone or so is tricky. I'm two stone down from my heaviest in 2016. Measurements are basically a size 12, 37" bust, 29" waist and 37" hips. I don't really need to get below a size ten I don't think and am quite solid limbed so I think being the top end of the BMI range with some wriggle room would be great.

shearwater2 · 07/05/2024 17:08

I just about managed to get down to 11st 6lbs in 2021 when I did the Fast diet - it worked in lockdown but as normal life resumed I eventually put two stone on. My waist is 2" slimmer than it was as my lowest weight then though - I think it's the gym that has made the difference.

NarrowGate · 07/05/2024 18:28

@alrightluv You’re absolutely right, I got all my imperial and metric muddled (1970s child)!

jobessieandme · 07/05/2024 18:44

I've had a pretty good day today.

B smoothie
L avocado on toast with marmite
D chicken parmigiana and mixed green vegetables
S packet of skips (71 calories!)

Totalling 1150 calories. I also went for a run at lunchtime so am feeling very virtuous! Hope it shows on the scales tomorrow!

alrightluv · 07/05/2024 18:50

@NarrowGate I'm a 70s child too 😊Wish I had my 80s figure 😂

YouBelongWithMe · 07/05/2024 20:00

Day 2 gone pretty well

Had overnight oats for breakfast which is delicious and healthy but nearly 500 calories and I need to cut that back somehow

Had an oat milk latte at break time

Leftover curry for lunch, plus a carrot chopped into sticks.

Had GF pasta with a homemade roasted red veggie and marscapone sauce. Feel very dull now.

Am at 5k steps but will take the dog out for a spin before it's dark.

Getfits · 07/05/2024 20:28

Welcome to all new joiners 😃

Today went quite well.

Breakfast: Greek Yoghurt and banana

Skipped coffee but had two cups of tea with a splash of oat milk during the day.

Lunch: a marinated pork grill, cucumber, and sweet pepper.

Dinner: mackerel, marinated mushrooms and 2 mini tortilla wraps.

Snack: seeds
Hot choc made from 15g of coconut milk chocolate and oat milk/water.

May have went slightly over my calories but Step count was 8000. Not bad considering I didn’t leave the house. Did an hour of gentle cardio exercise - trying not to overdo it while my leg is healing. Bit bummed out that I can’t do as much walking but I’ve discovered some new seated workouts.

here’s one I really enjoyed and did for the first time today : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KwouzanR8SM&t=10s

Hi All,
I've been super good and my
Weigh day is tomorrow. I do actually feel so much better for cutting the junk food out and lowering my carb content. Here's hoping for a good loss tomorrow.
@Getfits - I've been on a couple of walks over the bank holiday weekend. I struggle during the week due to my boys after school activities. Thanks for the advice!

SwordToFlamethrower · 07/05/2024 21:30

I wan to lose about 5lbs in 2 weeks, LMAO... I'm doubling my protein intake and doing 2 16 hour fasts a week. I'm breastfeeding a toddler 😭so always hungry

Autumnintowinter · 07/05/2024 21:49

Lunch was a big salad with lots of veggies, falafel and some vegan feta.
Dinner was roast veg including courgettes, aubergine, onion, pepper, tomatoes and mushrooms with an Impeccable vegan fillet.
