Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

Morning everyone!
3lbs down this week which I'm very pleased with. I made a massive effort excersize wise but also had a family celebration with a weekend away so definitely enjoyed myself but didn't overeat.
This along with reading others peoples successes has spurred me on for the coming week!
Plan this week is 30 minutes excersize in some form each day (i sometimes split this into 2x 15mins) if it's a busy day.

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 10:17

Just weighed and I've lost 🙂

SW 13 st 3
CW 12 st 13
GW 12st 0

I haven't been under 13 stone in ages. Strangely people are commenting. I know it's not a big loss but it's going from my stomach which is my problem area.

I'm walking more, eating more veg and taking usual vitamins but also plantago drops for my sinuses. They help inflammation so am wondering if they're doing something to my digestion hence flatter stomach?

Getfits · 20/05/2024 10:41

Morning everyone,

I’ve lost two pounds since last week and nearly one inch off my waist 🥳 that’s a loss of 4 pounds since my first weight update on May 5th. I can really see the difference on my stomach which is one of the fattest places of my body - even when I was a size 8 in my 20s I had a bit of stomach.

SW: 11 stone 6 /72.5kg

CW : 11 stone 2 /71kg

GW : 9 stone 10 /62Kg

Starting waist size : 32.5 inches
Current Waist : 31.5 inches
GW: 29 inches

I was reading a YouTube comment today under a video about comfort eating and the person was quoting someone who said someone to the effect of “one of the best things I did for weight is loss is separate my feelings. Bored is not hungry. Sad is not hungry.”

So this week I’m going to make a special effort to be more mindful about identifying if I’m actually hungry or not before I go for a huge portion of food or grab a snack.

@Cherryblossom6754 I'm 3lvs down too. Finally seem to have realised what it takes! I.e several days with big calories deficit.

I seem less hungry now. If I have an evening meal I'm trying to just have some berries for breakfast. Before my breakfast used to total almost 500 calories!
I'm surprised how easy it is to give up breakfast.

Away next week on holiday. A bit worried about either stressing about calories all week. Or undoing my hard work (what usually happens). I definitely feel in a better mindset this time.

Mynewnameis · 20/05/2024 11:24

@Netcam congratulations. I'm very short myself and need to be about 8.5 stone. I've not seen 8 on the scales since 2020 so I'm quite excited I'm heading in the right direction (9.10 now) . A third of the way!

Mynewnameis · 20/05/2024 11:27

Just realised I've been calorie counting 4 weeks today. 7lbs down.. must keep going till July:)

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 11:39

@Getfits I was the same when young and skinny. Always had a bit of belly. I didn't exercise much then though. I look more I'm proportion now.

Imatorturedpoet · 20/05/2024 12:09

I weighed in this morning, but I think I'm up a lb. Current weight 12 stone 11.2. But I've lost an inch off my waist and an inch off my thighsmy, so I'm doing something right! I did drink a pint (lager) yesterday and ate Sunday dinner and noodles later, and probably didn't drink enough water, so hoping I'll see a loss next week. I should probably weigh in on Saturday, because we always treat ourselves a bit at the weekend!

Getfits · 20/05/2024 12:33

yeah I find exercise especially regular walking definitely helps @alrightluv

I’m a bit limited with exercise /walking right now due to a leg sprain but hopefully I can increase my movement soon.

@Imatorturedpoet I know what you mean - I used to actually do weight updates with a friend on Saturday morning for this reason and then order a takeaway in the evening 😆 it does make sense in a way and I often do check my weight on a Saturday too.

But I like Mondays for the actual weight recording/update because it helps me more careful about what I eat over the weekend.

I bought some digital scales as I think my analogue Salter ones were broken. They weigh me half a stone heavier than the previous scales 😥But I'll weigh in tomorrow am and take it from there anyway!

Yes and normally that would apply to me as well, but it's the time DP and I spend together after he's worked long days, so we're go out for sunday lunch. I never have pudding though 😂

Well done for getting that far. It is possible, you will get there, it is really helpful to be able to check in here with how we're doing. I'm 54 and I don't think my weight had been this low since my early 40s. And I only lost weight then from the stress of my divorce! (On 2nd DH now, much happier, no stress relationship).

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 17:02

Just had a good beach walk with a steep hill. DH is making a salmon salad for tea.

FishPie2 · 20/05/2024 18:57

Does anybody weigh daily ? Was watching ytubes today and a few of them said you should do that instead of once a week.
quote - Research shows that people who weigh themselves every day have even more success with weight loss than those who weigh in once a week. One of the biggest benefits of daily weigh-ins may be that you can make small changes throughout the day to help you stay on track. You can catch little ups and downs in weight faster and decide how you want to deal with them. For example, you can choose to exercise more or refocus your diet and eating habits.
I am undecided.

Picoloangel · 20/05/2024 20:29

@FishPie2 that’s interesting. I did a transformation type program a few years back and we were only weighed every 3 weeks. There was one trainer though who advocated weighing every day and taking a weekly medium. He thought it was a better indicator.

I’m not a fan of weighing generally as when I was doing the same course I only lost about a stone and a bit but the difference in my body shape was enormous. The pics for me were the most telling.

icecreamisforwintertoo · 20/05/2024 20:35

Weighed myself today and only lost a pound so far but I had two roast dinners at the weekend plus a biggish meal out!
I do normally weigh myself every day too, I find it easier to stay on track

sw: 10.7
cw: 10.6
tw: 9.6

I tend to weigh daily, but I have to be careful I don't get discouraged and give up if I put some on.

I had a healthy day today, had muesli with half a banana for lunch and chicken with 3 new potatoes, raw yellow pepper, tomato, cucumber, fried mushrooms and wilted spinach for dinner. I also had three small biscuits and several coffees.

Getfits · 20/05/2024 21:25

@FishPie2

I also weigh daily, but I know some people find it unhealthy and say it triggers disordered eating, however it works for me and doesn’t lead to excessive restriction or bingeing.

I don’t weigh myself much on my period as I know without fail my weight goes up 2-4 pounds for a while after it starts, so it doesn’t feel like a true measure!

I like to keep an eye on the overall pattern of weight readings, throughout the month - i don’t worry about a bit of up and down on the scales as long as overall it’s a downward trend. I know there’s all kind of reasons for
small weight fluctuations not necessarily linked to gaining or losing fat, but it helps me stay focused.

Yeah essentially this.

And to add - I also take waist measurements regularly too and pay attention to how certain clothes - like my tight jeans - feel on me.

Yes, I weigh most days when I first get up for consistency. Occasionally I forget or it's too cold, then I leave it till the next day. It helps me stay on track. I don't count calories though, so this is my best measure of how I'm doing.

Netcam · 20/05/2024 21:36

I don't find it makes me obsess about my weight, I just treat it as useful information. I would find counting calories much more likely to make me obsess about what I am eating and think what I 'could' eat to make up my permitted calories and I want to avoid that mindset. I just try and have 3 healthy meals a day with ingredients that I know are suitable to eat, with lots of veg and salad.

FishPie2 · 20/05/2024 21:42

After reading the replies I am going to weigh daily and hopefully it will keep me on track more. Thanks.

Inspectorlemon · 21/05/2024 00:24

Stayed the same but am still quite pleased as I was out socialising a few times.

Cavilicious · 21/05/2024 08:02

Meant to log in yesterday, but catching up today. DD is doing her gcses so some mornings are more stressful than others, yesterday had the joys of a water bottle in her pocket leaking onto the back of her skirt and an almost refusal to go into english lit!!

Fairly happy with a 2lb loss. Had a few meals out to navigate including DS's choice of TGIs!!!

Autumnintowinter · 21/05/2024 08:56

Morning all
1 pound off this week so 5 pounds in 2 weeks which I’m pretty happy about.
CW- 11.2

Been pretty focused this week also hoping that continues into the bank holiday. Would love to get back in the 10s by June so that’s what I’m aiming for!

Netcam · 21/05/2024 08:56

8 st 5 again today. I think for the first time I ever I weigh less than DH. He's 5'6 and was 8 stone 6 this morning, but he's always been very slim and fit, he's a runner. I'm 5'3.
