Glad it's working so well for you @Theredjellybean You must feel out of the rut now.

I had a very indulgent day yesterday. KFC for tea, 2 glasses of wine, 8,000 steps. And I also treated myself to some Autumnal scented candles at TK Maxx.

Today, I'm hoping to have a potter about the house day. A little bit of cleaning, little bit of gardening, little bit of reading. Maybe lunch at a garden centre with DH. Hope you all have a nice Saturday

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/10/2024 09:50

So glad it's the weekend! No alcohol last night and I slept much better, woke up today with a bit of spring in my step. Went to order the last bits for my bathrooms , now having a nice breakfast.

I put jeans on this morning, they fitted well in the summer, I couldn't even breath in them today 😢 that's got to be my motivation to get back on track.

Morning all. Another alcohol free night last night, I feel so much more rested today. I had good dreams and felt like I had a really good sleep.

I walked muttly 7km this morning, and she would have gone forever I think. I'd like to take her on a proper hike in the malverns before the winter, maybe on my next non working day. I'm now going to do a nice gentle 5km run.

I made an important decision yesterday. I'm going to take 2 weeks totally off running (after today, obvs 🙄) and get my hip sorted and use my running time for deep stretching and yoga . If I'm still sore after 2 weeks off, then I need to rethink my marathon plans. But will give it proper time to heal first. I've also decided to do a round of Fast800- I used to do blood sugar diet and had great results but I've always found it too hard with running; well, if I'm not running anyways, here's a perfect opportunity. It will hopefully give my weight loss a kickstart, give me something strict to follow which always works for me, and will rest my hip as well.

I know I always have a plan and this is just another plan.... but I need something to click for me and I was reflecting on what worked well for me previously. Come back to what you know and all that.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday

Morning, hope everyone is doing ok. Day 5 no alcohol for me (I drank on 1st Oct) and my face is looking less puffy but I have been eating far more food than usual including carbs and chocolate. I weighed this morning and I have gained 4 lbs this week but my digestion has also really slowed down without the booze.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I was just considering doing Fast800 for a week or two to get back to my goal weight. It’s my go to plan. I am home alone for Monday and Tuesday so it’s a perfect time for me to start and I feel over the hump of giving up the booze. My alcohol book says the first 72 hours are the hardest. I am drinking one or two of these each evening; Gordon’s Gin mocktails, Luck Saint beer, Guinness 0.0.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2024 11:33

Totally @Sedgwick , I feel like I just gave up completely in September. Ate chocolate, takeaways, birthday cakes. toast and lurpak.... and drank a lot. I just don't have the stamina for it these days.

OP posts:
Storyland · 06/10/2024 13:26

Weekly weigh in: I've put on 1lb. Which is to be expected.

Back to the plan tomorrow. Eating less - calorie counting too confusing for c me so i just aim to eat less. No more pop.
Alcohol only on weekend. 10,000 steps a day. Exercise 3 times a week.

Storyland · 07/10/2024 07:07

Make that a 2lb gain 🙄. OK. Hello Monday! Let's do this!

I've packed a lunch for work and if it is dry I'm going for a walk in my lunch break. Got food shop and a church meeting this evening so not much chance for more exercise. But no alcohol or pop today. Time to get back on it.

Sedgwick · 07/10/2024 10:47

@Storyland considering you were ill that’s not bad at all. I never calorie count strictly but have meals I roughly know the calories of and weigh meat and fish from time to time to keep an eye on portion sizes. Day 6 no alcohol for me and I feel the habit is slipping away now. My number 1 priority is sober October. I weighed and have gained 4.5 lbs with all the bread, crisps and chocolate mainly after dinner.

Feel really well though, ready for Fast800 for the week. Today’s food is leftover roast chicken, cauliflower and whatever other veg is in the fridge and garden. Planning on just having an early dinner and then getting into bed at 8 pm with my books to avoid temptation. We have a gorgeous new bed and mattress and I love it like a friend! I hated our old divan with no headboard and we had it for 24 years. Home alone today. @thenewaveragebear1983 You starting Fast800 today? Have a good week everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/10/2024 11:33

@Sedgwick yes, I am trying to. I did intend to yesterday but I just ended up eating far too much!

Today I've had:
Greek yoghurt, tsp collagen powder, frozen raspberries

Lunch will be : fish and veg homemade soup and a chunk of edam cheese

Dinner: we have leftover pulled pork from
Sunday lunch so I will have that with a load of green veg.

No running this week, but I am going to bootcamp. I've walked the dog and depending if dd is home I may need to walk her again.

I had a terrible night last night, really struggled to fall asleep and had weird dreams and that horrible 'edge of sleep' feeling all night. Strangely, I think it's caused by my vitamin d supplement, apparently it can cause sleeplessness. And of course as soon as I connected that, I was completely unable to sleep- insomnia is so much mind over matter isn't it? So I feel tired and spaced out today.

Theredjellybean · 07/10/2024 17:10

@thenewaveragebear1983 ...sorry I haven't read exactly what the hip pain is...but I ran with hip pain for 9 months..until I wasn't sleeping due to pain...MRI showed 2 prolapsed discs and nothing wrong with my hip !
I took 14 months off running ( dp nearly under the patio as I got so antsy)...and had intensive physio...another year to get back to 10 km distance...SO definitely do not ignore it if it doesn't settle with rest and stretches

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/10/2024 20:45

I've not had a perfect day but it's been pretty good and I have come in at around 1000 calories, 60g carbs. That's a massive change from my recent menu so I'm happy with that.

Tomorrow is my office day, always a long tiring day with lots of meetings. I have bought some Gym kitchen meals for convenience, they aren't perfect but as ready meals go they are ok. I will have one for lunch, then dinner will be a king prawn stir fry with coconut and lemongrass sauce. I will have a bowl of soup and a piece of cheese after work and before football, just to take the edge off and try to resist my inevitable cravings after work.

@Theredjellybean I think my hip is either hip flexor, or IT band- it's a recurring injury that unfortunately I always get flare up when k increase my mileage alongside strength training, it also seems to be aggravated by sitting all day so that doesn't help me. My plan is to not run for two weeks even if it feels better, to stretch a lot and see where I am.

Storyland · 08/10/2024 07:21

Your dinner tonight sounds really nice @thenewaveragebear1983 . Is that a homemade sauce?

Yesterday was maybe 80% successful. Did a lunch time walk but then the Internet went down and out of boredom I went and got a Pepsi. Tried to have soup for tea. Ate all the bread but then got bored of the soup and had an ice cream instead.

Tonight I'm going to start exercising again. Going to try and do 20 minutes on the rowing machine. I hope it goes OK. I'm still coughing a fair bit which is annoying. If the cough hasn't lifted by Monday I might go see the doctor because it will have been about a month by then.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2024 17:44

@Storyland no, it's an Asda one, it's in their stir fry deal (veg + sauce + noodle)
Sorry you're not feeling well still, take it easy.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2024 21:05

I didn't eat my nice stir fry in the end, football was cancelled due to the rain so we had burgers instead, I just had a small burger with cheese and salad. Bumped my calories up a bit but I still ended up on 1100 for the day and 100g carbs as I had a gym kitchen meal that came with rice for lunch. I'm feeling good though, I'm actually a bit hungry but nothing too awful and I'm determined to get through these tricky first few days.

I had soup after work and that really helped me, I reckon soup for snacks is actually a good idea as it takes so bloody long to eat it, even if it's 100/150 calories it is so much longer to eat than a biscuit and actually helps stave off the hunger rather than just wolfing it down

Fast800 does recommend you weigh every day, I did weigh this morning and I had had a loss but because it's all just water weight I'm not going to count it as official until my proper weigh in!

Tomorrow I'm having:
1/2 grapefruit
Yogurt and collagen powder (need to find some collagen supplements that are tablets as the powder is a pain in the butt )
Lunch- soup pot and cheese
Dinner- stir fry and prawns that should have been tonight!

OP posts:
Storyland · 09/10/2024 07:15

No pop yesterday and no wine. But also no exercise. I came home and just got straight in to my pjs without even considering it. Then made tea (prawn gumbo with brown rice) and chilled out all evening. Don't feel too bad because I think I needed the rest. Still coughing a lot when I move about which is annoying me a lot.

poorpaws · 09/10/2024 09:10

Hi everyone

I'm sorry I'm late with my Monday weigh-in but time is flying. So I lost a grand total of quarter of a pound! Actually I'm pleased with that, pathetic as it is, it's not a gain.

I'm all over the place this week and I'm trying to dodge meals out. My SIL now loves our little cafe and since she knows I don't see DP on Sunday she finds any excuse to invite me to meet her there (this week she had 5p off vouchers for me🙄). Anyway I've been eating out there twice with DP and once with SIL. On Sunday we had a mega breakfast, which was lovely but very big and most likely a zillion calories. Add this to chip and triple ice cream in town and it's been quite an eaty week.

I'm continuing with the big clear out which is probably why I never seem to have time to post more than once a week. I'm having a day off today because tomorrow I have to face the big wardrobe in the spare room which is full of old coats and a lot of junk.

I'm only managing about 8,000 steps a day on my dog walk which I can't see increasing any time soon. It's a slow walk now but at least I'm out for over an hour in the sunshine (ugh I got drenched to the knickers in torrential rain twice this week).

I'm going back to read your posts now. I hope you are all well. I know some of you haven't been so well lately, so I hope you are all back to full health now.

Take care everyone and just keep trying. I'll try to post more often.

Sedgwick · 09/10/2024 09:14

@Storyland a lingering cough is horrible. Take it easy, you are still not well. @thenewaveragebear1983 Sounds like you are getting in the zone.

My two days home alone and starting Fast800 didn’t go to plan, DH had something cancel and was back early and DD needed our help with some paperwork due this week so she was around too. Good news is I have done 7 days no alcohol and got my first good nights sleep since giving up. Weighed in this morning and have 7 lbs to lose to get back to goal weight. Hoping to do this by end of the month.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/10/2024 19:15

@Sedgwick I'm creeping back into the zone I think.

Today wasn't so brilliant, I hit the sugar cravings fully at around midday and I ended up eating quite a lot, just in response to those strong cravings. Had some fruit and chorizo and yogurt- calories all add up in those things so I'm ending up today on around 1500 calories. That's still a fair bit under my tdee so I'm ok with that as a one off.

tomorrow i probably need to plan better. i will have yoghurt with my collagen powder and some grapefruit, lunch will be half a pot of soup with cheese, and dinner- not decided yet.

Morning all. Stayed the same today, expected as yesterday I hit the wall a bit- but overall still a loss for the week and I'm back on it today!

It's finally stopped raining so I'm taking the dog out for a nice long walk this morning before I log on to work. I'm not missing running one tiny bit (yet) and my hip still hurts after sitting for long periods. I don't think walking in wellies is helping so I am going to try my hiking boots this morning instead. And I've still not actually done any yoga or stretching, so I truly endeavour to get that in today.

OP posts:
Storyland · 10/10/2024 08:35

Hope you've enjoyed your walk @thenewaveragebear1983 this morning. Even with craving battles it sounds like you are in a good head space

I gave in to tiredness again yesterday evening. Just slumped after work and drank again. I'm feeling a bit flat and cant be bothered with stuff. But it's my birthday this weekend so I'm hoping that will perk up my mood and get me going again.

And if I don't do anything tonight, I should still hope to get my Friday evening walk in tomorrow.

Sedgwick · 10/10/2024 10:09

@Storyland maybe just give yourself a rest when you can and enjoy your birthday, you might find you recover faster if you give in to the tiredness. Then next week you might feel more ready to get back into it. @thenewaveragebear1983 surprised you aren’t missing your running but that’s good so your hip can heal. I am so proud to be day 9 of no alcohol. I have a 2 cans of Guinness 0.0 habit now and chocolate but going to try reduce and eventually remove the chocolate. Weirdly lost 2 lbs.

TalkToTheHand123 · 10/10/2024 17:25

Hi all. I feel like a whale at the moment. Scales going in the wrong direction. I'm a bit baffled as I haven't drank alcohol or ate any real naughty food for a few days. I've saved some food for the next day a few times also. I've done a fair bit of walking too. If things continue then I'll have to put my thinking cap on.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/10/2024 08:49

Morning, happy Friday. TFI Friday to be honest, it's been a very busy, very productive week.

Food went to shit last night as we had another high school open evening, it's quite stressful as we don't have good schools really in our town and we have no clear first choice. Kids had kfc on the way home, I ended up having a toasted ciabatta roll with ham and a kitkat 🤷‍♀️ not very fast800 friendly

I'm all planned for today though, hopefully should come in at 850 ish and pretty low carbs, although I do need to actively ensure that I don't eat rubbish. I'm craving bread and sugar terribly. Plus I'm due on so that's maximised as well.

My hip is still painful even without running on it, and I am going to look for a physio if it's not better next week.

OP posts:
Storyland · 11/10/2024 08:58

@sedgwick I think you are right. I'm going to focus on having fun this weekend and relaxing and hopefully my energy will be more restored by Monday

@Talktothehand123 that's really frustrating, though maybe in a couple of days your body will catch on and the scales will start to behave.

@thenewaveragebear1983 open evenings are exhausting aren't they? My kid is in year 4 but I went to an open evening last week because the school most of her friends want to go to is a fair trek away and the bus prices are hefty. I wanted to look around early to see if it was worth it. And it was reassuring to go but a lot of walking about. Was shattered afterwards.

Yesterday, I sat on the rowing machine and something was broken on it. The resistance was so high I could barely shift it. By the time DH had fixed it I'd lost motivation and vacuumed upstairs instead. But today is a new day and am hoping to get my Friday night walk in. Might not manage 5 miles but will at least do something.

Happy Friday everyone!

poorpaws · 11/10/2024 09:05

Good morning everyone

This is just a quick one to tell you I'm not well so I might be missing for a day or two.

I had a strange headache last night that seemed to affect my balance, I felt sick and I haven't slept at all. I've texted DP and he is taking the dogs out alone. It's our Café day and I just don't fancy it, but I have eaten toast and a Mars bar, so none of it makes sense. I no longer feel sick thank goodness, hence the Mars bar.

I've been working really hard throwing away lots of my belongings from the mahogany monstrosity (my daughters name for the huge wardrobe in the spare room). I think I might have been doing too much as I've been starting early, straight after the dog walk and working on it until eight at night. There's a lot of rubbish in there collected over a long time.

I'll be back when I feel a bit brighter and I hope you're all okay.
