@Theredjellybean not til April (London 2025)
I cannot imagine being ready for it though, it seems such a mammoth distance. You'll be amazing in 12 days, you've trained hard, just get your head down. I hope you enjoy it!

@Sedgwick 3lbs on holiday is not bad at all. That will come straight off after a few healthier days.

Theredjellybean · 26/08/2024 10:27

@thenewaveragebear1983 if you are already running half marathon distances now, you will be SOOOOOOOOOO ready for ful distance in 6-7 months time

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/08/2024 17:13

@Theredjellybean I hope so! 🤞

Got back from holiday a couple of hours ago. I jumped straight into a bath - I felt so grubby from travelling.

I'm going to face the scales in the morning but I'm expecting a big gain. Eaten a lot of junk this last few days. Drank a lot of wine too. Ran twice. Did a few modest walks. Ah well, that's holidays for you.

But on the positive side. Several people said I was looking really well and could see a difference in me which was gratifying. And twice I got to go to the beach and swim and sunbathe in a new swimming costume and felt really happy and at peace with how I look.

The effort has been worth it and I'm looking forward to getting back on track on tomorrow.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/08/2024 17:30

@Storyland that's wonderful, that's what it's all for really isn't it? Don't let the scales get you down tomorrow, remember a lot of any gain will be water from wine/food/travelling

Hi everyone

I have a question. Why is it every time I do a special eating programme like 7/7 or kick ass before September, all the invitations for dining out, quick catchup with food etc come in? Every bloody time! I was doing kick ass and doing well and then the texts started "shall we go to", "fancy lunch today at" and on it goes. Honestly I hardly ever go out until I try to hit the diet hard, it's like magic.

So I started well and gradually met up with ..., had lunch with ... and now it's all buggered up.

Tomorrow I am meeting dgd for triple ice cream in the park and goodness knows what else we'll eat.

All in all it's gone to pot so I guess it's kick ass September for me but shushhhh I'm not telling anyone (and it's DPs birthday month so there will be celebrations).

It's so good to hear you are all doing well, diet, exercising, running. And soon it's back to school and then Christmas 😱. I just cannot believe how fast this year has gone. I feel robbed as the early part of the year was just rain, rain and now we have autumn in August, it's every shade of wrong.

Anyway keep on my lovelies, keep trying and doing your best.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/08/2024 21:20

@poorpaws I hear you. I guess, the reality is that modern life is food-centric. It's always about food. Or alcohol. Or if you're like me and don't really do anything social, it's still about food. Quiet weekend at home? Wine. Food. So we have a few choices don't we- we either say no to the socials, or we say yes to all of them and everything they entail. Or, we do the socials but (probably apologetically) decline the cake, or the wine, or the dessert. But honestly, your friends don't care if you don't have the cake. It's you and your company that they like. Pick the ones you really want and that are worth it. Leave the others (cakes I mean, not friends 🤣)

I am really in need of a few quiet days, we've had a lot on this weekend and lots of food. I'm quite sad the summer is drawing to a close, but also quite glad that all the "events" see above 👆 can stop. It's going to be really sunny next weekend again though, but I'm determined to get my head screwed back on.

I will not be achieving my target of 145 by September. I've just been eating waaaaaay too much! But 145 by 1st October is possibly doable. It's definitely doable, just I need to actually do it!! I was doing so well without sugar and bread and I need to go back to that, it curbs my appetite so much.

Focus from tomorrow, it's not quite September but I'm starting early!

poorpaws · 26/08/2024 21:35

@thenewaveragebear1983 Such a positive post, you've most definitely got this (whilst I go off eating my ice cream).

Storyland · 27/08/2024 07:21

Food based socialising really is a struggle when trying to lose weight. I don't want to be a party pooper by turning down treats but @thenewaveragebear1983 is right, friends don't really care what your eating, its about being together. Just hard to remember that around the table.

OK, I've faced the scales. 10st4. 6lbs up since the holiday began. So new goal is to lose half a stone by end of September.

Don't feel too bad about it, it was a bit of a hard work holiday and the treats kept me going. Oh and my period started too so that's another factor.

I'll be doing a food shop after work tonight and then exercise will restart tomorrow. I feel so sluggish at the moment that I'm looking forward to getting on it again. I can only handle holiday mode in short doses, think I'm better suited to my normal life .

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/08/2024 19:31

@Storyland half a stone in September is a great target. I'd love that but I think it's a bit ambitious for me, but i can dream!
I had a bit of a rubbish day today, Tuesday is always a tough boring day and I was really tired. I ache all over- after doing my long run on Sunday I was feeling fine, so thought I'd do a gym class last night- well, I really shouldn't have, it was 'the fitness test' which is a really horrible set of exercises that we do every 6/8 weeks to see how our fitness has improved. It was horrible. All afternoon I've been aching! Drove home feeling really fed up, had to stop off to get some bits so I bought loads of, admittedly fairly healthy, snacky bits (nut bars. Dried fruit, etc) but it all added up to a lot of calories and now I don't really have enough for, or even want, any dinner. 🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
Storyland · 28/08/2024 09:02

Hope you are feeling less achey today @thenewaveragebear1983 You fit in a lot of exercise activities, it's amazing!

Scales have been kinder to me this morning. 10st1 - so I think the wine is leaving my system now. I have a cracking headache today - started last night - think it's just too much screen time but I'll be taking it easy today because all i want to do is crawl into bed. But I have made a salad for lunch and filled the food shop with fruit and good things to eat. No pop or wine bought.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/08/2024 20:49

@Storyland, thanks- nope, I'm really aching, and i went to bootcamp and then running club tonight so I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow!

I've had a few extra calories today, I'm finding it hard to stick to my allowance when I'm doing so much activity. I'm trying to just keep on the rails until September now. We have a big family bbq planned on Saturday and it's going to be sunny so... 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
Storyland · 29/08/2024 07:20

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 ! You are working so hard! I'm so ready for some good weather to come our way.

Had a mixed bag of a day yesterday. Really enjoyed my salad lunch and went for a short run in the evening. But I had s splitting headache that paracetamol didn't touch. At lunch time I caved and drank a bottle of DR Pepper and the headache instantly lifted. Caffeine withdrawal maybe? And then last night instead of eating a single square of dark chocolate, I ate a entire bag of artisan mixed chocolates that I'd picked up from a food market on holiday and the chocolate didn't even taste good! 😫I kept thinking I'd like the next one, and the next one but each one was terrible. Utter waste of a binge moment.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/08/2024 19:22

I have finally managed a day where I have actually come in under my calorie allowance- it's been a long time since I've actually done that! I've drunk loads of water today and had loads of veg, I feel quite stuffed now. I've not really had a great few weeks and I feel tired and sluggish. I was saying to dh earlier, a month ago we weee on holiday and I felt really slim and healthy, and now I feel bleurgh and tired and unhealthy. I feel like I'm just limping to the end of August now, then all the social commitments can dry up for a bit and back to a bit of normality.

I have great plans for September, you know I love a relaunch and new motivation. I was doing so well when I was having no dairy or grains or sugar, I could actually stick to my plan, so that's what I'm really going to aim for in September. I'd like to have no alcohol as well, although it's Dh's birthday on 30th so I may not do the whole month. Above all, I need to eat more veg (cooked veg) and stick to my meals, my meals are always good. It's the in between things and the extras that tip me over the edge. I eat a lot of fruit out of habit when I'm not actually hungry.

Until then though, I am just treading water a bit. I am still aching so I swerved the gym this morning, but I'm running tomorrow and will do a class on Saturday morning to round off the month. I'll probably drink this weekend, and we have a bbq at my in-laws on Saturday which will not be on plan. But I'm considering it to be a bit of a last hurrah.

OP posts:
Storyland · 30/08/2024 07:13

I like the idea of a relaunch in September. I also feel like I'm limping to the end of the month diet wise. It's been a really busy week, coming back from holiday and then I worked late last night.

Friday night me and DH normally get a long walk in whilst DD is at gymnastics but Gymnastics is off this week and I ought to spend time with DD so no exercise this evening. Got stuff on all day tomorrow too.

Next week is full on too with stuff so my relaunch might need to wait till the 8th September. Remind me to stop saying yes to things.

Sedgwick · 30/08/2024 09:37

Hi all, sorry I’ve been quiet. Since coming back from holiday it’s been hectic here and stressful. I haven’t got back into my food and exercise plan and am missing it now. Had an Indian takeaway for first time in months, wine every night and bought crisps for the first time in months. Feeling really rough around the edges.

Definitely up for a September relaunch. I can start on Sunday 1st. I will weigh in. Probably 4 lbs to lose. Back to my Mediterranean home cooked meals, no booze, no junk and back on my cross trainer. You guys put me to shame with your commitment to exercise. Looking at my records I was exercising 6 days a week in May and June but dropped to only 6 times in July and only 2 times in August.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2024 13:36

So last night after dinner I was feeling so full and bloated, I decided to weigh myself (probably as some sort of punishment) and I was very shocked to see I was 157.5lbs Blush
I weighed this morning and thankfully I'm back down to 150.8. Still a bit higher than I'd like, and still an overall gain in August I think, but only just, so I'm happy with that overall and my goal of 145 by the end of sept would be six pounds off which is manageable.

I asked ChatGPT to write me a marathon training plan for 30 weeks til London, and write me a cyclical plan of average 1600 cals a day to match it. The whole thing looks utterly terrifying. I'm going to ignore that until next week.

I'm all up for hitting September hard and you know I love a weight loss gimmick so how about this I saw on Facebook?
S-S-S-S-S-September:

  • sober
-steps (10,000)
  • sugar free
  • stick to the bloody plan
-Sleep How many days can you hit all 5 goals?

Bad day here, DD is having an operation right now and I can’t stop eating bread. It’s a scheduled minor operation but I feel so nervous. I think not exercising in ages and eating and drinking crap the last week has set me up badly to handle this. Usually I am very sensible. Hopefully I can speak to her/see her in a couple of hours.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2024 14:01

@Sedgwick aw 🌺 🐻 hope she is ok

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 30/08/2024 14:06

@thenewaveragebear1983 oh thank you, she just texted to say she hasn’t been called in yet, it was supposed to be 1 pm. Oh well. I am usually strong about this stuff, convinced the junk food and wine has thrown me off.

Storyland · 31/08/2024 08:16

@Sedgwick hope your DD's op went well . And that you are OK too.

@thenewaveragebear1983 Good luck with ssssseptember! That's a great plan!

I'm going to a prayer retreat today in a lovely location in the countryside nearby. Its 10-3 and includes time of worship and lunch. I was tempted to try and fit in exercise around that but actually I'm really tired so I'm going to give this as a day (and maybe tomorrow too) of proper rest. And get back into things on Monday.

Sedgwick · 31/08/2024 13:24

Thank you @Storyland , DD is home now, operation went smoothly, she is in some pain but that was expected. I am very tired but otherwise good. Hope you enjoy your prayer retreat, what a lovely thing to do, that really appeals to me.

Theredjellybean · 31/08/2024 14:16

Glad your dds OP went well.@Storyland
@thenewaveragebear1983 I found marathon training plans so complicated, my physio who is a bit alternative thinks they are all hype
He said one long run a week..adding a km each time
One fast 5 km...flat out
One middle length run 10-15 km at variety of places , how you feel on the day
3 sessions of weights...my exercises are physio designed for me spondothylesis and prolapsed discs but any leg strengthen ones work.

I haven't as you know bothered with nutrition etc
I honestly think you'll struggle to marathon train on 1600 calories...as my total miles per week went up I got ravenously hungry.
I eat 1200 calories on non run days, and short run days
Long run days I eat twice that
I now have 6 days to go ...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2024 15:15

@Theredjellybean yeah they are quite complicated. The one I found was basically a few easy runs ranging from 5/10km, a tempo run or other training type run (hills, speed, intervals etc) and a long run as you say increasing 1-2km a week. Which is all well and good but there is not a chance in the later stages that I'm going to manage to do 28km one week, then 30km a week later, then 32 for example. I just know it. I've tweaked the original draft so I do alternate week long long run, and a 15k long one on the other week. I can tweak as I go along I guess but it needs to feel manageable to start doesn't it? The nutrition worries me, but I think I will just have to see how I get on. I struggle on 1600 now so... 🤷‍♀️
How are you feeling for yours?
