Hello all...I'm back from my holiday.
It went ok ISH, then had super busy three days..work has me all over the country at the moment.
I braved the scales yesterday and was 73.9..which actually wasn't too bad, and meant no holiday gain..I was 74.4 before holiday.
My marathon training has gone off the rails completely. My excuse is work and domestic responsibilities are just over taking but luckily the marathon du Médoc is not serious and my DD keeps reminding me we are doing it for fun...
I'm happy to hear @thenewaveragebear1983 you are doing so well...I need a big dose of your commitment.
The marathon is in 3 weeks and after that I'm going to be reassessing my food, my drinking and work !

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/08/2024 07:22

@Theredjellybean a holiday loss is excellent, well done! 👏 I'm sure your marathon training is going better than you think, 3 weeks is not long to go now. Have you done your longest training run?

I've kind of lost the plot a little bit. The last few days I just can't stop eating! We have worked really hard in the garden and it's been lovely weather, but pretty much all last week I have just struggled to keep to my calorie allowance and have ended up having junk, yesterday ds made m&m cookies and I ended up having one etc. I think I have just about got away with it, but if I keep on like this then I won't, so it's got to stop. I'm going to try to get more protein this week and more fibre, and see if that curbs my hunger a bit.

This morning I need to go for a run, I was originally planning a long one but I don't have the energy, so that's been rolled back to next week and I'm just going to do a mid length one. More garden work this afternoon, plus a good long walk with the dog. Tomorrow I have a day off work so I'm planning to do something a bit further afield with boys and dog, maybe a walk with a picnic. Lots of opportunity to claw it back but I do just need to get my head back in the game.

@Theredjellybean well done on sticking with it whilst on holiday. Hope this week's training goes well!

@thenewaveragebear1983 sounds like you are still being very active so maybe you needed the extra calories.

I'm bumbling along in holiday mode. Had loaded fries yesterday whilst we were out and about but resisted drinking in the evening. I'm hoping to get a run in this morning and a short sea swim. We are at a holiday house with extended family and different pairs taking it in turns to cook lunch or dinner so have to go with the flow at meal times. But actually the family are very into cooking and growing veg so the meals are very good - both in taste and nutrition. Just difficult to resist having extra portions

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/08/2024 07:28

Morning! Right- it's kick ass time! I have totally gone off piste this weekend but I'm drawing a line today and that's it. I feel really tired and sluggish after all this crappy sugary food, it's not nice.

This week I'm maxing my protein and fibre, and I have got to stick to my calorie allowance. My boys are away (with the other granny this time) from tomorrow so I have no excuse, I've got good food in and time to exercise. I really need to get to bed at a decent time the next few days, I'm feeling really tired and that does not help my food intake. I'm also only doing 4 day weeks for the next few weeks as It's my non working day today, bank holiday next Monday, NWD the Monday after.

Today- I'm going to fast as long as I can this morning, just to reset my appetite a bit, then I will have a protein pot with frozen berries and chia seeds. My dinner tonight is homemade "smash" burgers and instead of buns I will have them with these yummy little new potato rosti type things (they are really nice, will post the recipe later!) and lots of salad. We are going to take a picnic to the park with the dog this lunchtime so salad and probably tuna mayo for me.

Have a great week all!

@thenewaveragebear1983 Right I'm kicking ass with you.

I too am sluggish from mountains of surgery rubbish. Also not sleeping well which in turn makes me lethargic all day long. I am absolutely sick of myself and my never ending excuses.

Anyone else up for a kick-ass week? Because I'm very much a team player, hate to let people down and would never exaggerate the truth, kick-ass week could/should work for me.

So let's get on it! I have to bath my old dog today as she smells of wee and she's quite chunky so that in itself will be a bit of a workout.

It's colder today so that might make me move more because when the sun is out I just want to sit in the garden with ice cold drinks and snacks.

@Theredjellybean @Storyland @TalkToTheHand123 @Sedgwick
and anyone else here, are you joining us? One week of ass kicking unless you're on holiday shouldn't be too hard. (I seem to recall someone is on holiday).

Have a good day everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/08/2024 07:59

@poorpaws 🥳

There's 12 days left of August! That's time to make a real impact so we can start September strong! 💪

@thenewaveragebear1983 ok 12-day kick ass, I'm with you.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/08/2024 08:30

And I'm not actually even going to do a starting weigh in, the reason being I can pretty much guess I've put on 3-4lbs, it takes me over a number I don't really want to see and 1) it's largely water, 2) I'm due on and 3) it's a stick I don't really want to whack myself with right now. My goal is still 145 by 1st September and I'm not weighing til then.

@poorpaws thanks for including me, I am on holiday in South Korea. It’s such a great country, completely normal to leave your handbag and phone in a restaurant and go to the loo or whatever and it’s safe. I am eating a lot more food than at home but it’s such different food (I usually low carb but lots of noodles and rice) I have no idea how much I will have gained. Back on Sunday and will weigh in on Monday. Keep going everyone.

Storyland · 19/08/2024 14:44

I'm on holiday too. It's chucking down with rain, the house is full of kids, and I just secretly scoffed a crunchie in my bedroom. I'll join in with the kicking ass next week.

DH and I are going to try and squeeze a walk in at 4pm if the rain lets up. But I feel like today will be quite a sedate day for me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/08/2024 14:56

We took the dog out for an adventure walk and got lost, ended up going 6km and ended up with a very wet and happy Labrador 🤣
Took the dc to the steamhouse bakery, oh my, they do the most incredible confections - massive donuts, brookies and slices along with New York deli style filled bagels . I had nothing 😢 but I was literally salivating in the queue. I bought one for my dh and made my son message him with a picture of it so I don't get tempted to eat it today <sigh>

Big salad for lunch, too much red onion which I can still taste even though I have brushed my teeth. I'm going to do some stretches this afternoon, and foam roller my hamstring which has been giving me a bit of trouble. I can't get to the gym tonight as dh won't be home, but may go for a short run later instead.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 19/08/2024 15:06

Well I think I deserve a medal. I've just bathed three dogs, one after the other, I am absolutely shattered.

We did a bIt longer walk this morning and injured dog kept up this time so I'm hoping we can add some extra walking time in on most days.

Lunch was boring but low cal and I'm now starving waiting for my evening meal, but so far today ✔️

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/08/2024 15:20

@poorpaws oh bathing 3 dogs! You poor thing! We had our friend who is a plumber put a warm water tap on our patio which has revolutionised bath time, we just tether her to the wall and hose her off! She still hates it though, probably because the water isn't cold, muddy and toxic enough to really enjoy 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
poorpaws · 20/08/2024 20:44

@thenewaveragebear1983 Strange you mentioned the outside hot water tap. I had never heard of them until last Sunday when I was out with the dogs and telling a doggy acquaintance lady that I had three dogs to bath the following day. She advised me to get the tap and said it was a game changer. It cost her £130, 3 years ago so no doubt they cost a lot more than that now.

So far so good for me today and I'm really tired so shouldn't eat much more if I go to bed early.

Tomorrow will be challenging as SIlL, DP and I are going out for lunch. This is the first time in the 8 years I've know DP that he's said yes to a lunchtime meal. Stupidly I feel quite nervous because obviously I know both of them very well but they hardly know each other. I know DP will be nervous but not admitting it as he can be socially awkward at times. No doubt I will fill in any difficult pauses with gabbling garbage that emanates from my mouth on a far too regular basis.

I think I will just have a sandwich and a couple of lattes and try to avoid the lovely homemade cakes.

So how is everyone doing? I'm ok for two days usually and on the third 😱 and it's day 3 tomorrow so I have to use a lot of willpower and caution.

I hope you are all ok and the holidaymakers are having a great time.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/08/2024 21:21

I was doing ok and my food on the whole has been really good, but I ate 4 mini brownie bites in the office and a piece of chocolate tart when I got home. I have put everything into my tracker and my total cals are 2100 today 🤦‍♀️ dh and I did go for a run after work. So I probably broke even today, but not the best choices.

We're really low on food so I've taken some chicken out of the freezer which I will season and cook tomorrow for lunch, and I have salmon for dinner with potato rosti and peas.
I've been watching lots of gym/meal prep videos online and I'm getting inspired to batch cook/meal prep so I might add some bits to my shopping order to do that- I'm trying to run down my freezer and cupboards a bit first so I can do a big shop on payday.

I've still not weighed myself, I don't really want to know the damage but I also think maybe I need to so I can draw a line. I'm feeling very hormonal, I'm a few days late and it's probably because of increasing my exercise so much the last month. But it's really impacting my choices, I could genuinely have the biggest binge right now and all the way home from work I drooled about stopping at a shop and buying loads of chocolate (I didn't, but I really really wanted to)

@poorpaws my tap was £160, but my kitchen sink backs into that wall so it was a really simple job, you do have to have a mixer that sets the temp at 36* for a proper doggie wash. But I figured that's the cost of 4 trips to the groomer so it will eventually pay for itself.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 21/08/2024 17:16

Hi all. I believe I've lost 1 or 2 lbs since last week so quite pleased to be making inroads to the holiday gain.

poorpaws · 21/08/2024 19:31

@TalkToTheHand123 that's good news, well done.

Today went ok I think, better than expected. For lunch I had a bacon sandwich with side salad and two lattes. Because we sat outside for three hours we decided to have a third coffee. I thought about the calories and had a black coffee with no sugar and I quite enjoyed it.

I've managed a little more exercise today too, walking to the cafe and back and then walking to DDs to feed her cat whilst she's away. So all in all it could have been much worse I think.

@thenewaveragebear1983 how is it going for you today?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/08/2024 20:07

I had an ok day, but I have been incredibly hormonal this week and have been craving sugar like a starving animal. I have finally come on today about 4 days late so hopefully the sugar cloud will have lifted. I really don't know what you can do in that situation, ultimately if only chocolate will do then I figure I might as well eat it, rather than eat loads of healthy stuff I don't want and then still eat it 🤷‍♀️ anyway, I probably came in around break-even today.

I'm looking skinny though, my legs look really slim and I'm hoping I've gotten away with my week of crazy eating. I need to get some miles in this weekend, it's long run time, so that should help burn a bit of it off as well!

I've planned a good menu for next week, the weather turning has inspired me to do comfort food and my goal is to eat more cooked veg and less salad. Salad is - genuinely- my favourite food, but per calorie it's probably more expensive than fillet steak, and of course it doesn't actually fill you up and lettuce isn't actually that nutritious. I do wonder if sometimes it's causing me to feel more hungry later on, whereas lots of cabbage, broccoli, carrots etc with a hot meal at lunch might be better? So I'm going to batch cook and meal prep this weekend so I have nice hot dinners all counted up and ready to go.

Storyland · 22/08/2024 08:29

I have truly fallen into holiday mode. Drinking every night, chocolate bars, white toast and butter for breakfast. Not moving much at all.

The issue is that I'm feeling a bit bored and cooped up, and turning to food for entertainment. Staying with a big family group means that day trips take forever to get going - we have a lot of toddlers in the group. My own DD wants to stay with her cousins.

We have little trips to the beach but the weather hasn't been good enough to stay there all day. I've been for a run one day and a walk the other day by myself. I have a stack of books that I'm working through too. But yeah, I'm just a bit bored and that makes me want to eat 😳

But today, we are going to a nice country house and grounds that has some nice sculpture trails. I've told the family that DH, DD and I will be heading out at 10am. The others are welcome to join and come with. But we are leaving at 10 and will meet them there. I'm hoping we will have a good walk, eat lunch out at the cafe, have another wander and be back in a good mood by mid afternoon.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/08/2024 17:04

@Storyland enjoy your holiday!
I'm fully in holiday mode and I'm not even on holiday! I just cannot stop eating rubbish!! I've just made myself sit and put it all into my tracker because I have been just mindlessly scoffing all day and I have eaten over 2400 calories today already! If I have dinner (plus I was already eyeing up a glass of wine, I've had such a long shitty week) I'll be on about 3000+ - that's bloody awful!!!

I don't know what's got into me - well, actually, I kinda do. I have reintroduced some dairy and I had oats for breakfast, both seemingly healthy foods but after having had neither for 6 weeks, it's really obvious that they just do not agree with me. I feel tired, I feel grouchy, I feel miserable and I just cannot stop grazing on crap. So that's going again tomorrow, this is horrible!!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/08/2024 09:33

Morning, happy Friday!

Felt like utter crap this morning after my 3500 calendar which included wine 🤦‍♀️ urgh 🤮

Anyway, I decided enough was enough, and stepped on the scales this morning- amazingly I have not gained the 3-4lbs or more I was expecting! I'm 150.8lbs (so about 2 on since before my holiday all those weeks ago...) which I categorically do not deserve, I have entirely got away with it. So that's the absolute kick up the bum I need to realise that I won't get away with it forever.

I've been much better this morning, went for a run and have just had a protein/banana/egg pancake thing with berries.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 23/08/2024 14:07

Hi all. Love to all, especially those struggling.

I've been on the scales today and seems my soup diet is continuing to pay dividends. Haven't been a big fan of using scales but finding it highly motivating when losing an lbs or two and keeping me on track, touch wood.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/08/2024 07:18

Morning all, happy bank holiday Monday! I cannot believe it's August BH, this summer has flown by. There is a distinct autumnal feeling in the air.

Yesterday I ran 23km as my long run, longest so far. Seems like marathon training is fully on! I ate loads, but it was mostly good. I went blackberry picking with ds and we had a crumble competition, so there was a bit of pudding and ice cream consumed (for judging purposes only, of course) and I drank some wine.

I weighed in after my run at 148.5lbs (of course after a run is a false result really because of being so dehydrated). But it does mean I haven't put loads on despite having a week pretty much off plan.

I'm back on it today though. I feel the need for a few days of healthy food, lots of veg, no alcohol! I've reset my nutracheck to 1600 calories daily, and I want to hit 100-120g protein a day in that. Today we're having brunch (my dc really want to have brunch made on our raclette/hotplate for some reason, I'm not sure why 🤷‍♀️) and then I'm going to do a roast dinner tonight and portion up some leftover meals. Dh wants to drive to the malverns to walk the dog but it seems rather a lot of effort so instead I think we'll stay local and get jobs done.

OP posts:
Theredjellybean · 26/08/2024 07:23

23 km is fab run...well done
When is your marathon?
I am running mine in 12 days and really nervous.
I haven't been good at training recently and the weather is predicted to be 27 degrees on the day so I'm freaking out.
I weighed at 73.1 kgs , before run, so I've lost 2.1 kgs in two weeks which I'm pleased about.

Sedgwick · 26/08/2024 09:20

I am back from holiday, weighed in at 9 st 1 lb (gained 3 lbs).
