Looking for advice re: cutting down breakfast

I lost 4.5 stone over 2 years, but have put a stone back on recently. I logged my breakfast today, and it was 1100 kcals, how can I cut down? I think it's related to feeling low, but I can't do much about that.

What did you have?

Nomorecoconutboosts · 10/04/2024 18:52

Yes what did you have?

Mumaway · 10/04/2024 18:59

It's fine to have a big breakfast if your other intake is minimal. Some people advocate breakfasting like a king etc. 1100 calories is a lot for any meal though, and it's probably worth looking at where those calories are coming from (is it sugary cereal Vs eggs), as there is different nutritional value outside of calorie counting

changer2010 · 10/04/2024 19:36

I had 4 mini naans and 2 bowls of porridge and banana and skimmed milk.

No no and no …fruit ….eggs ….cereal…skimmed and milk…yogurt…if you have done it before come on you know …but naan ?

grizzlygrump · 10/04/2024 19:40

Intermittent fasting? A lot easier to not eat any breakfast at all than to try to restrict it if you are prone to eating too much, and it has a lot of other benefits beyond restricting your calories.

BreakfastAtMimis · 10/04/2024 19:41

This is just off the top of my head, but you could have...one bowl of porridge and one mini naan?!

OldHabitsDieScreaming · 10/04/2024 19:43

You'd genuinely be better off with a plate of fried eggs and bacon, OP. Your breakfast is just carbs and sugar.

You need fat and protein to set you up for the day (unless you want to give IF a go). If you don't fancy eggs etc, how about proper full-fat greek yog and blueberries with a little bit of honey and cinnamon?

Too much carbs

Waffleson · 10/04/2024 19:43

Had you been drinking the night before? That could make you crave carbs in the morning.

Teddleshon · 10/04/2024 19:45

I went cold turkey and gave up breakfast all together - just have black coffee now. Best thing I ever did as weight has dropped off and while I am hungry by lunchtime, I’m not noticeably hungrier than when I ate breakfast.

Too much carbs

Yeah and? Carbs are fine, the OP was asking about cutting the calories.

Carbs isn’t going to make you loose weight…eggs yog cereal fruit are much healthier if your trying to loose weight

YouAndMeAndThem · 10/04/2024 20:13

You'll still lose weight eating carbs, as long as overall calories in deficit. There's nothing wrong with porridge

SabbatWheel · 10/04/2024 20:15

You’re just eating too much.
One bowl of porridge, banana, no naans.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 10/04/2024 20:28

What do you have the other days? Sorry but is this a wind up?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 10/04/2024 20:30

Keep having the porridge and banana but don’t have the 4 mini naans and you’ll instantly be cutting down on the calories.

RagzRebooted · 10/04/2024 20:31

I had a bacon roll for breakfast. That was under 400 calories and kept me going until lunchtime.
I don't usually eat breakfast at all though. I find I'm less hungry not eating breakfast than I am if I have something carby like porridge or toast.

MuggedByReality · 10/04/2024 20:45

Well, this really isn’t complicated. Just eat less!

I lost 5 stone a few years ago I had porridge for breakfast this morning, too. A big bowlful with a handful of blueberries. It was yummy, it filled me up and I didn’t eat again until I had a carrot with low fat hummus & a pear at 3-30.

ManchesterBeatrice · 10/04/2024 20:50

Eat less move more.

Learn to feel hunger.

how is cereal healthy and does it help you with weight loss?! Porridge over cereal for sure.

You know oats are cereal … ?

MuggedByReality · 10/04/2024 21:03

There’s nothing wrong with some cereals. Wholewheat cereals such as weetabix, bran fakes, shredded wheat etc are completely fine. I eat them regularly and I’m a healthy weight.

Crunchy nut cornflakes, coco pops etc are obviously less than ideal.

Cereal is healthy and well done you porridge is cereal I 3as talking about that with a naan is too much carb so the weight loss will be slower
