Moving on from Wegovy

I've lost 4 and a half stone on wegovy. I've gone from an obese BMI to BMI of 21. I'm so happy. It took me a year. So now I'm going to taper down and stop. Has anyone else stopped yet? I'm going to keep up the calorie counting and exercise of course to keep the weight off.

Hi I am still the same really, maintaining more than I am losing but that’s on me. I still have 4kg to lose. I’m not gaining though

How is everyone? It's a month today since my last jab of 0.25 and I think I now have a routine I can stick to. I've maintained at around 68kg which is 23.8 BMI. Feeling quite positive that I can keep this change in place. I'm a lot hungrier of course but am not craving sugar or junk in the way I did before. Would love to hear from others .

I'm still going well. Very slowly still losing but nearly at goal weight so very happy. Still exercising and calorie counting.

Great to hear from people. I feel we are to some extent the pioneers on the post O/W/MJ journey. @Menora your journey has been an inspiration to me, my feeling is that the GLP-1 drugs real strength is, here is space to understand why person x landed here and where they go from here

Menora · 30/05/2024 20:53

@liz4change that is the best way to see it. My concern is those who have completely succumbed to all hope of ever managing weight loss by themselves will not use this time to empower themselves. There is so much debate about the physical/physiological side of obesity what is overlooked is that you have to do the work yourself, even when it’s hard and boring. The meds can give you the opportunity to do this by making the journey easier whilst you get into the right headspace. I see this now as my ‘job’ - I have to go to work every day to earn money I also have to work at watching what I eat and exercising. It’s not like I have the luxury to give up work, I also am not genetically lucky enough not to have to plan out what I eat every day.

This has to be worth it, there must be a trade off. For me it is worth it, I like the health benefits far more than I miss how I used to eat

You are completely right! That's exactly how it should be managed.

I think that's right. Where I'm at now is that I've ordered another pen.

Part of the reason - the main reason - I went on wegovy was that I can lose weight effectively when I put the work in. But with a lot going on with kids, working full time in a full-on senior career role, a long commute and a lot of networking/travel/conferences required, I just don't have the space and time in my life to do that. I lost a lot of weight in covid when I didn't have to commute three hours a day and the kids didn't have activities. As it is I rely on my commute for my walking activity and struggle to fit in a gym hour.

I was doing ok on the quieter weeks right after coming off. Then I had a full week of travel with work, followed by two weeks hosting guests both at work and home and I've just not been able to recover from the meals out with a corresponding week of meals in. I have even more stuff on until the end of June and I don't see a gap... so I'm back on the pen to do the heavy lifting for a while to cover that.

Hi everyone, hope you don’t mind me joining this thread. I’ve been in the ‘continuing wegovy thread’ almost since the beginning.

I’ve been in wegovy since October, have exceeded my goal and have maintained for about 6 weeks. I’m in the process of tapering down so I can stop.

I only ever went up to 1.0 and that worked for me. So with my last pen I’m doing 1 x 1.0, 2 x 0.75, 2 x 0.5 and 2 x 0.25.

Im nervous to come off of the medication as I very much depend on it to keep me on the straight and narrow but I can’t be on it forever (can’t afford it and don’t want to).

I am going to start calorie counting again as I haven’t bothered over recent months as it’s been pretty easy to maintain my weight eating what I want without overeating If that makes sense?

Anyway, well done to everyone on this thread for maintaining your losses. You’re giving me hope that I can do the same! 😁

AhBiscuits · 03/06/2024 08:29

Good to see you over here @Lovesthebeach
I did pretty much the same with my last pen. It's been a week since my last 0.25 and the effects haven't completely worn off yet. I shared some doritos with salsa with DH on Saturday night as a bit of a treat. The next day I had stomach cramps and sulphur burps. I was really surprised as it had been a week since taking such a low dose and I didn't eat loads .

usernother · 03/06/2024 09:20

I've been on saxenda then wegovy for a year and a half. Saxenda stopped working for me so I came off it for a while and the hunger pangs returned with a vengeance. My tummy went back to rumbling as soon as I woke up. I put on a few pounds and started on wegovy after about 6 weeks. I lost some more weight but seem to have reached a plateau. I'm still a little bit overweight but I'm in my 60's and I don't really want to lose anymore. I'm scared to come off it because I know it's still acting as an appetite suppressant and it's the hunger I struggle with the most. And the cost. Reading this thread with interest.

I suffer a lot with stomach cramps and sulfur burps and I have to take medication and it's so bad I'm moving back down the doses to see if that helps? How do others deal with this? Is there anything particular you eat that makes it worse?

AhBiscuits · 03/06/2024 12:43

I only get it if I eat too much food or too much fat.

Lovesthebeach · 03/06/2024 16:47

I also only get it if I’ve eaten too much… usually culminates in me being sick 🤮
I’ve gone right off eggs!

Lovesthebeach · 03/06/2024 20:50

Omg I so cursed myself earlier… guess who got the sulphur burps and then was sick….
the first week I reduce my dose too…. Very strange!!

AhBiscuits · 07/06/2024 06:56

I had 12 clicks left in last pen, so about 0.18mg, which I took on Monday and now I'm properly finished. I'm glad to be off it but slightly apprehensive of adjusting to life without. I still want to lose a few more lbs so the plan for now is change nothing about what I'm doing. As I've weaned down I've noticed that I'm now hungry at mealtimes, which is obviously fine, but I wasn't while on it. I'm still easily resisting eating inbetween.

So did you wean off it by taking 1 click in a pen a week?? How many clicks are in one pen and doesn't a pen only last 6 weeks?

AhBiscuits · 07/06/2024 11:44

I only went up to 1mg.
With my last pen I think I did
1 week of 1mg
2 weeks of 0.75mg
1 week of 0.5mg
4 weeks of 0.25mg
Then I just used up the 12 clicks that were left. There are click charts around to tell you how many clicks to get the dose you want.

Technically the advice is to discard the pen after 6 weeks but loads of people don't and it was a risk I was prepared to take.

UnicornAndSparkles · 07/06/2024 13:15

Tentatively place-marking as I'm hoping to be off wegovy by the end of July and will need some support!

Well done for all the losses and keeping the weight off everyone.

Lovesthebeach · 08/06/2024 07:49

Hi @UnicornAndSparkles how are you doing?

Lovesthebeach · 08/06/2024 07:50

@AhBiscuits how are you finding dealing with the hunger? I’m having a bit of a wobble about coming off it… but I think it’s psychological rather than physical… (2nd week of 0.75)

AhBiscuits · 08/06/2024 08:35

It's been perfectly fine so far @Lovesthebeach
I eat the same kind of things at almost the same time every day, my body is really used to the routine now. I find that I start feeling quite hungry as it gets close to that time but that's it, normal and manageable. It's actually quite nice to feel a bit hungry, I'm enjoying food more.

Lovesthebeach · 08/06/2024 08:36

thats so good to read. I hope I end up feeling the same way… and my uncontrollable binging desire doesn’t come back!

Menora · 08/06/2024 08:39

I was a binge eater. I wouldn’t say it’s gone away but in all honesty I have spent too much and come so far to undo the work so I continue to be motivated not to do it by these facts combined with reminding myself how shitty I felt when I did over eat, and how much better I feel now. Find your trade off and keep reminding yourself of The benefits of what you have now rather than giving into a short term desire/compulsion however if it is too hard I would advise seeking some CBT to try work some things out

Lovesthebeach · 08/06/2024 12:56

thanks @Menora it’s good to get some perspective from someone who’s previously been a binger. I feel sooo much better about myself and don’t want to undo all my hard work… I guess this is uncharted territory as I’ve never managed to maintain weight loss before!

Oblomov24 · 08/06/2024 13:03

Interesting. Watching this.
