How much weight did you lose before you started to notice it in your clothes?

I've lost a stone and so my clothes are kind of just fitting better but not lost a dress size. Got another 2 stone to go. At 12 and a half stone and should really be 10 and a half.

So now I'm a comfortable size 16 rather than in a 16 that should have been an 18. And I could possibly fit into a generously sized 14 pair of trousers.

Just curious rather than impatient.

I've recently lost a stone and I'm not noticing it yet.

Fingers crossed soon.

I’ve lost a stone and some things are a little looser but I wouldn’t say it’s major - want to lose another stone and hope to be a different dress size then!

That's kind of where I'm at....

So not rushing to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes yet...but stuff is fitting a little better.

Probably about two stone for me. My starting weight was quite a bit heavier than yours though.

CoQ10 · 07/03/2024 16:08

I'm similar. Do you mind me asking how you are losing weight? Diet and or exercise?

Oldandcobwebby · 07/03/2024 16:10

Male. Lost just over half a stone, and into 34in trousers instead of 36in

I'm obese. Weight has been up and down three times. Based on previous experience, takes a couple of stone before I see the difference.

I've been off an on but fairly consistently going to a circuits/weights class at the gym since autumn 3 x a week. But I don't think that's made a huge difference to be honest, I'm doing that more as I was, at 55, starting to feel a bit old and lacking in strength. I'm walking more, I walk in and out of walk most days now - 40 minutes a day.

It's been food really, also cut down on random alcohol in the week unless there's a good reason for it. So no sitting on the sofa with a large glass of wine and a bag of crisps.

Veg and protein, 3 meals a day, sensible amounts of carbs and more fibre. Eating smaller portions, more veg, trying not to head for cheese in the evening after dinner. Really cut down on mindless snacking, no choc or biscuits at work.

It's not been that hard to be honest because I've taken it slowly - but it's taken me about 6 months to lose that first stone.

The next 2 stone will I think take more effort.

I’ve lost a stone and there is very little difference in my clothes. I think losing another stone will definitely have me in a smaller dress size. I am 5ft 5”. In my 50s.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 07/03/2024 18:11

Have people started to notice yet? Two people have commented to me but I can't personally see any difference.

Hillrunning · 07/03/2024 18:16

Took 3 stone before my clothes felt too big. Another two before I looked swamped.

I found my belt to be the best indicator though. I kept having to add new holes then eventually bought a new one and have now added two more holes.

Lizzy1980 · 07/03/2024 18:24

I’ve lost 2st and I’ve gone down a dress size. Just! My friend who has lost just under 2st looks noticeably slimmer, I really can’t see much difference in the way I look

Elephantsareace · 07/03/2024 18:48

I think it takes a while. For one thing, most of my clothes are pretty forgiving/stretchy so they'll fit reasonably well in probably a two stone range. The first thing I usually notice is my jeans sitting lower rather than suddenly being too big.

Also bear in mind you lose fat all through your body and so it looks more gradual overall. A slimmer neck, face, ankle, knee, less fat round your kidneys etc, isn't going to show in your clothes size.

soupfiend · 07/03/2024 18:53

It took loads before I had to get new clothes.

Something like 3 stone or so, perhaps more

AuntMarch · 07/03/2024 18:55

I'm a stone down and noticed I was yanking my jeans up a bit today, but not enough that a new pair a size down would necessarily do up! (They're cheap jeans they've definitely "relaxed" through wear and wash so that will be part of it)

WingSlutz · 07/03/2024 19:03

I think it was closer to 2 stone but it felt like all of a sudden, my clothes went from fitting with a bit of give, to massive! I was looking back at some progress photos I took when I did WW about 5 years ago. There is a notable difference after one month but a huge difference after 3.
Typically I gained all the weight back over Covid, subsequent divorce etc. so I'm back to square one!

PressPauseontheMenopause · 07/03/2024 19:16

I started at 13.4 (size 16), now 11.13, in a size 14 now 🎉 I can see a difference and definitely feel better, but no-one has noticed it yet - I'm waiting for the first unprompted comment!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/03/2024 19:18

3.5 stone and had to replace everything, went down 3 sizes.

ducksinarow123 · 07/03/2024 19:26

Ok so end of October I was 13st1lb and a size 16. I am now 11st6lbs - so 1st9lbs lost and I've only just gone and bought some size 14s as the 16s were getting a little loose. However it took me a week to be brave enough to try them on but when I did they fit perfectly! I can still wear my 16s, they are just a little loose, so you never know, you might be in a lower size already without realising it, or at least much closer than you think.

Loubilou23 · 07/03/2024 20:05

I lost 3 stone and went from a tight 16 to a comfortable 14. Although when I lost it I was mainly wearing joggers and jumpers (covid) so probably would have been nearer an 18 in normal clothes. I wouldn’t have really noticed after a stone as everything I wore was a bit baggy anyway but I remember being able to get back in my coat rather than resorting to my husbands!

Loubilou23 · 07/03/2024 20:07

i put on 8lbs of that three stone and my 14’s were getting snug again so just lost the 8lbs and my gosh what a difference it’s made, but I’m generally smaller - I don’t think 8lbs would have made much of a difference when I was in an 18.

ThisGirlCantAlways · 07/03/2024 20:17

I’ve lost just over a stone and clothes just more comfortable. I’m 5’7 and i find in somewhere like Next clothes:

over 15 stone size 18
13 1/2 - 15 size 16
12 - 13 1/2 size 14
10 1/2 - 12 size 12

FizzyStream · 07/03/2024 20:26

I've lost 2 stone and gone down a dress size ish. I noticed my clothes getting looser at about the 1.5st mark but I didn't have a lot to lose. Went from 10st11lb to 8st11lb.

Hollyhead · 07/03/2024 20:32

The biggger dress sizes take longer so it should speed up. From a 12 to a 10 is about a stone for me but a 10 to an 8 only half a stone, as the weight becomes more concentrated in areas where your clothes actually ‘do up’ around your body.

suki1964 · 08/03/2024 08:56

Took a stone before clothes started to feel good again, about 20lb before the dress size went down although jeans went down a size pretty early
