Eat the Muffin top - Week 4 .... May the force be with us

DANCESwithaMuffinTop · 24/03/2008 14:07

Hi everyone. Thought I'd start the new weigh in thread. Well according to my scales I've put on 3/4 of a pound which is freakin infuriating. However, it has given me the kick up the bum that I needed. I was aiming to lose 8lbs in the first 5 weeks and if i don't pull my finger out that's not going to happen.

I totally succumbed to the easter eggs and ate LOADS of chocolate yesterday as well as a big roast dinner I've put all the children's eggs in a box in the fridge (all the ones that are open) out of sight...wish me luck!

I know everyone has struggled the last week or two. I don't know if you saw the thread about 'I only want to talk to thin, gorgeous people' it was another mnetter wanting to lose weight. She didn't want to join a dieting thread only to find fellow fatties (or something along those lines) excusing each failure to lose weight. I have to say it made my heart sink, I've always got a 'good' reason why I can't stick to my diet (meal out, going to friends, special occasions, feeling crap etc) but I'm going to really try and think positive this week and lose some blardy weight.

So this is my helpful tip for the week (!) If you are someone (like me) who really craves a sweet treat but doesn't really like fruit. Marks and Spencers sell packs of six bags of sweet popcorn (aimed at children) It's only 55 cal a bag and 0.1g sat fat (that's 1/2 point for ww people. They are yummy and really feel like you've had a treat.

Hope you are feeling better Buda

absolutely, the best name EVER for this thread. Let's never, ever change it.

(sorry, slight name change disguise in honour of Ashes to Ashes tonight)

piratecat · 27/03/2008 18:49

or we could change the 'possibly' to 'probably' like the old Carling adverts

keepcalmandbollyon · 27/03/2008 19:12

oh yes, even better

Niecie · 27/03/2008 20:32

Nice new name!

Do we need to draw up a list of forbidden topics of conversation. I only seem to post about what I shouldn't eat rather than the good stuff I should be eating.

Or does that go against the whole ethos of being 'Probably the crappiest slimming club on Mumsnet'?

Oh confused now! Am I meant to be a crappy slimmer (I can do that, no problems) or are we being ironic and actually we are going to be the best?

ladytophamhatt · 27/03/2008 21:10

Grrrr was doing really well today until I got to dinner time.

Cereal for brekkie.
Wholemeal pitta with ham salad and a hard boiled egg.

snacks were all fruit, except 1 single richtea biscuit that I had with my cuppa.

Then mayhem decended upon us at 4:30pm weh I had to start all the beavers/cubs drops off and pick ups with my minded childed here too. Usually DH is here so I get to cook dinner etc, and my Mindee is collected at around 5-5:30.
Mindee was here until 6, and Dh was at work so it was fish and chips for dinner, excpt i had pie and chips. DS4 had about 1/3 of it and it was 1 small potion of chips between me and boys so it wasn't a huge dinner but it has no doubt destroyed any good work I have put in i teh last few days.

It was nice though..

Still no peanut butter etc though. Or Chocolate....

piratecat · 28/03/2008 08:30

I think we have reached an all time low!! I think we should actually ditch the negative crappiest name, and get back to watching what we eat.

I say this becuase I just 'know' I am goingt obe disappointed if it gets to the summer and I haven't lost weight.

Just think, wouldn't it be fantastic to fit more comfortably into your favourie type of top, or jeans, or even swimwear??

I watched that victorian diet programme, the other night. One word --DISCIPLINE

we have got to get some pronto.!!!!

easter is done with now ( notice how that word spells eater, if u take out the E!!)

its raining, but soon it will be sunny, and warm, and we want to look better.

here endeth the lesson

DANCESwithaMuffinTop · 28/03/2008 08:30

OK point taken. Time to be sensible. You are right Piratecat - I don't want to be big and hot, not nice.

New target received yesterday. Family party with the in-laws and DH's extended family in June. I want to be a size 16 at least (size 18 now) and get a nice summery frock that fits and doesn't make me look like a barrage balloon.

By the way, how many of us are already on school holidays and how many have that pleasure to come? It is easier to diet if the children aren't around and you aren't out doing things with them every day. We have another week to go before the hols so I have a week to get serious.

CaptainKarvol · 28/03/2008 13:58

I'm being good! Day 1 of Rosemary Conley plan and off to the supermarket to shop for healthy things only, once DS wakes up . Someone make me NOT buy all the bread products in the shop again...

ladytophamhatt · 28/03/2008 14:20

Didn't have time for breakfast this morning, just a titchy banana instead so I was starving by lunchtime.

Made a jacket spud with baked beans for lunch and have just had an apple.

I'm really hungry though....the biscuit tin is whispering in my ear and I'm craving bread. Lovely white thick bread, OMG I could murder aslice of bread right now!!

piratecat · 28/03/2008 16:50

lol @ word 'titchy', haven't heard it in ages!

I skipped breakfast too, but had it at about 11. Bowl of oats, which does fil me up, with some choppped apricots.

lunch was a grab some ryvitas, sooooooo 70's!! I like them tho, and stop me eating wheat.

unfortuanately having a takeaway this evening, with sis coming round. Haven't had one in months, prob indian, but I havent eaten much today cos of it.

As for holidays, my dd has another week then 2 weeks off.

sagacious · 28/03/2008 19:42

I am not going to post as I am a disgrace and I will be back PROPERLY on Monday .

beansprout · 31/03/2008 08:43

I like titch too, it's our name for ds2

Right, have lost those 2lbs again so after regaining them, I am back at an overall loss of 2lbs since I started this whole thing. Slow or what?!!

Buda · 31/03/2008 09:08

Hi.

Have been bad. Really bad.

However DH is now away for the week and so far today I have been good (I know it is still early!). Brown pumpkin seed roll for breakfast with a banana. Cleaner has just made a big pot of soup (but she put mushrooms in and I don't think I will like it! - I like mushrooms just not in vegetable soup).

No alcohol in house - well no white wine which is my downfall. But - am hosting book club tomorrow night which is lots of wine and dinner. Am hoping enough people will drop out and make it not worthwhile!

I started off at 16st. 7lbs and today am 16st 3lbs so have lost 4lbs in total.

DS is off school from Friday and we are going to Dublin for the first week and then Austria and Germany (Legoland) for the second week. That won't be good.

Am seriously contemplating Atkins when I get back.

keepcalmandcarryon · 31/03/2008 09:48

10 st 8lb this am, that's a pound and a half this week. Well done Beansprout on the 2lb, and Buda pleased to see you back - hope the soup is edible! Have you done Atkins before? Is it easy to stick to? I am calorie counting, during the week anyway, all goes a bit awry at weekends, which works for me but is such a faff, and I am a bit concerned that my kids see me weighing my food all the time, gets them into the diet mindset.

bellabelly · 31/03/2008 10:09

Have lost....drum roll please.... a quarter of a pound! [grimfaced emoticon] Time for me to get really serious again I feel, ie NO BOOZE until Friday night.

Well done keepcalm, beansprout and buda.

Niecie · 31/03/2008 10:35

Well done to all those who managed to lose something this week.

I had a REALLY bad week last week so I am lucky that I have only put on the 1/2lb that I the week before.

I was all set to be really good this week whilst the children are still at school so time to exercise and be careful at lunchtime. That plan has now been scuppered as I took DS2 to nursery this morning only to find it closed. That will teach me to write things in my diary.

I wouldn't mind but I was there on Friday for a puppet show they put on for the children and nobody mentioned the hols, not even saying see you in 3 weeks.

We have just booked a long weekend in France for the middle of the school hols too. I can hear those croissant calling from here.

BUT I went to town on Saturday and was looking at all the lovely summer clothes thinking I don't want to be a fat blimp any more, getting sweaty, trying to cover up all the wobbly bits. I have to do something and I am trying to hang on to that thought.

Buda · 31/03/2008 10:40

keepcalm - I have done Atkins before and once I get into it I am fine. I lost 2 stone on it 4 years ago. Added bonus is that DH likes it too. Weight comes off very quickly. But goes back on as quickly if you don't follow the plan properly - you are supposed to gradually increase your intake of sensible carbs.

AnAngelWithin · 31/03/2008 11:13

well gastroenteritis is a good diet sadly i am still in pain

i havent weighed myself as the battery has run out on my scales

my trousers are loose though!!

keep going ladies!!

dollydoughnut · 31/03/2008 11:29

Haven't been on here for ages but wondered if I can join your diet. I have put on 6lbs over Easter! Feel awful. I am now 10st 10lbs and only 5'3". None of my clothes fit now and have resorted to wearing tracksuit bottoms. Yeuch. I've tried Atkins before (5 years ago)and lost 8lbs in 6 days but, as I love carbs, I put it all back on. Help.

Niecie · 31/03/2008 11:37

Hi dollydoughnut welcome abroad.

Any ideas what you are going to do this time to lose the weight. We are all pretty much doing our own thing so there is bound to be somebody taking the same approach to you.

AnAngelwithin - Well done on losing the weight. Sorry it had to be in such a yucky way though. Hope you feel better soon.

dollydoughnut · 31/03/2008 12:05

Have tried every diet imaginable over the past few years. I'm really confused about diets now and don't know whether to go for low carbs, WW, crash-diet etc. I would love to lose 1 stone but can't. I seem to have the same problem as most others in that I do quite well during the week but come the weekend I blow it. Starting with a bottle of red wine on a Friday night....

Niecie · 31/03/2008 12:12

Dolly, could you do low GI diet and have good carbs (everything wholemeal)?

I couldn't live without carbs either - I am sure I would lose weight doing it but it wouldn't stay off.

At the moment I am trying (and failing) to be very sensible and stick to 3 meals a day and no snacks but I have a lot more to lose than you so that might not work for you.
