Is anyone up for a gentle weight loss thread?

As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

Right, I'm 66.3kg this morning.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to get back down to 64kg.

If I can get there by easter, that'll be great but I've got no set timescale.

I definitely want to take a gentle approach, being kind and caring to myself rather than restricting.

This was my starting point on 19th Feb.

I'm 63.8kg this morning, so at my goal. Just before Easter too 🙌

This thread has been really helpful in just checking in for a bit of mutual support ❤️. So thank you all.

I'm going to stick around and will definitely appreciate the support in getting back to normal eating after the bank holiday weekend 🍫

Have a good day everyone

Hello all! Welcome to the thread @Headstarttohappiness I hope you like hanging out with us. I got myself into the routine of eating three meals, no snacks and fasting for 12 hours (overnight) and did a month of it. I've fallen out of it this week but I will get back to it next week again. I weighed myself this morning and was pleased to see nine stone on the scales as I was hoping for that. I would like to get to 8,7 to get into my healthy range as per bmi (I am very short). So that's about 7 pounds to lose. I would really like to lose the weight off my tummy but I don't know if that's going to happen. I may have to live with it.

Well done getting to your goal @HelpMeOutOfHere that's brilliant! Happy Easter! 🐰

Not2bObvious · 28/03/2024 10:51

Really great to be at your target @HelpMeOutOfHere - that's a really nice number too, well done.
I haven't weighed since last Saturday, not sure if I'll see much progress as last weekend was so indulgent. My dinner out has been changed to tonight which might work better as I'll be in a better position to keep busy during the day & keep protein high, cals low.

sfraxx · 28/03/2024 16:41

Hi, I know this thread started in February. I started my health journey on the 6th of March but just came across this today.
My starting weight was 13st9lbs. Current weight is 13st2lbs. So all in half a stone gone in 3 weeks. I'm absolutely chuffed with that as I have pcos and losing weight seems impossible for me but I have been intermittent fasting and 1250 calories a day. I go on holiday on the 20th of June so hoping to be down another 2 stone by then.

You're all doing great! I think its great you're keeping each other motivated. I have lost my friends since starting this as the negative response I got just made me realise that they are not friends at all. Was just the tip of the ice berg so atm I only have my husbands support who is my biggest fan lol!xx

Not2bObvious · 29/03/2024 08:19

Half a stone in 3 weeks is brilliant sfraxx, nearly out of the stone bracket too. Fair play to you managing the 1250 and fasting, I've seen that work brilliantly. My weekly weigh was 12st9.4, I was 12st12.6 last week. Extremely pleased with that - it is definitely first week win though, won't keep up like this. Scales away til next Friday and I'll do better with behaviour this coming week as I've love to see another pound down.
I went over calories with my night out but not too drastically & I kept to my booze limits, was in bed by 11. Feeling fresh after a decent nights sleep although I'm aching in different places after second weights workout!

PurplePositivity · 29/03/2024 08:32

@sfraxx that's a fab achievement, can't believe you've lost friends over it. You have clearly lost more weight by not having them bring you down!

I'm still level, no gain, no loss but my mojo has gone. Still 16:8ish but work has been so busy, I'm not getting my steps in as I just crash when I get home.

Long weekend though so I'm going to reset.

sfraxx · 29/03/2024 08:35

I'm working all weekend now, this is where I struggle as a community worker between patients that's when I'd tend to snack or nip into mcdonalds/cafes etc on a break. It's trying to break free from that routine. Got my little lunch box full of healthy snacks though.

Do you ever just get bored of planning meals and food? This is where I struggle. I feel like I eat the same 3 dinners on rotation.

BarrysTeaForMe · 29/03/2024 08:58

Well done @sfraxx Keep going! You are doing really well. Yes. I get very bored preparing food/meals. It gets tedious but I keep going!

sfraxx · 29/03/2024 09:02

@BarrysTeaForMe
Yesterday's weigh in was 184lbs/13st2lb dead on. Couldn't help myself while brushing my teeth this morning stood on the scale and it was 184.8. A whole 0.8 overnight I've no idea how. I walked 5 miles before bed last night.
And it's these wee things I shouldn't do then end up making me fall off the wagon🥹xx

BarrysTeaForMe · 29/03/2024 09:08

I recommend not weighing yourself every day @sfraxx it's very up and down on the scales if you weigh daily. I prefer to believe that I'm doing well and weigh in less often. Once a week is enough I think. And patience! Also that's a tiny difference!

sfraxx · 29/03/2024 12:58

@BarrysTeaForMe oh definitely not, I don't know what provoked me this morning. Thursday is usually the day I do my weigh in. My GP told me back in January to weigh myself everyday and it would show me how much weight influcuates and would settle my mind. But if anything that would make me worse lol. Just had a tuna sandwich and some chicken satays from morrisons for lunch today. I had made a packed lunch that only consisted of fruit and 2 bars. I thought I'll eat that then be hungry so might as well fill myself up. Added up they're more or less the same calories anyway and I feel full to the gunnels lol. Got sausage onion and gravy in the slow cooker for tea tonight. Then I plan to take the kids and dog a walk afterwards, weather depending. I got some free time earlier and walked around the Loch at the hospital near me, got me 5000 steps so that's extra on top of today's. If only every day was as easy as today feels. Some days I feel I'll cave and binge. As long as I can keep myself busy. Have you all got some plans for Easter weekend?x

Octopus45 · 29/03/2024 16:40

@HelpMeOutOfHere well done on reaching your target. Was 9st3.75 this morning, so up 0.75 of a pound. TBH haven't done very well today, have snacked on lots of crackers and had a creme egg and some crisps. Planning a homemade chickpea curry with cauliflower rice for dinner.

Hi everyone! May I join you?
I need to lose about 3 stone to be healthier. I comfort eat and have had a tough last few years, I have found it hard to lose weight from meno. I love cooking but like a lot of high cal foods like butter, cream and cheese.

Rennypie03 · 30/03/2024 07:03

@Hillwish welcome. I am the same. But now I've accepted if I don't change my diet I wouldn't change my weight. Baby steps

Hillwish · 30/03/2024 07:27

Thanks for the welcome @Rennypie03!

Being 60 something and never having checked calories is quite a shock, but like you I realised needs must. I am mind blown by how much cream I have been eating comes to. I’m hoping to find recipes that are still exciting to cook and eat. The winter months are worst so am looking forward to the clock change and being outside more especially as I have a young dog.

Popetthetreehugger · 01/04/2024 07:02

morning all, I checked in while on holiday , I hadn’t had scales for years , but when we got back I joined a gym . They weighed me … in joggers ,zippy and trainers I was 14 stone . On Friday ,starkers out of the shower on my new scales I was 13.2 . So I’m guessing close to half a stone really. My gym is just circuits , so twice round is a smidge over half an hour . I’m 62 and I’d say we’re all much the same age ish . My first goal is to be 12 something. My aim is 11 .7 🙌

Not2bObvious · 01/04/2024 08:38

Morning. I mindlessly chomped my way through easter eggs yesterday, think I'll have to put what's left out of sight otherwise the carnage may continue for a few days. It's been a great few days but time to go back to stricter calories if I've any hope of shifting even half a pound this week.

PurplePositivity · 01/04/2024 09:13

Morning all & happy Easter

Weekly measuring day for me, still plateauing for the 3rd week now. So no loss but no gain.

I've been struggling as I'm so busy at work, I just zonk when I get home. Can't decide whether menopause, HRT, age, work, anti depressants are all working towards me struggling.

I'm going to make a more concerted effort and concentrate on the positives which are that my jeans fit me so much better. Plus I've not had any Easter eggs, we won't talk about the wine Blush

BarrysTeaForMe · 01/04/2024 09:47

Morning all and Happy Easter! I'll get back to it tomorrow! I'll have a bit more chocolate and wine today and then that's it.

concernedchild · 01/04/2024 09:58

Hoping to join this thread if that's okay!

I'm 24 and weighed in this morning at bang on 20st. I was 24st13 at one point so, that's already a good start.

I'm 1.4lbs higher than I was before Easter, but I'm also due on my period this week so I don’t know what's causing the little fluctuations.

I'm out of the house for 12 hours a day and really struggle with motivating myself when it comes to evening meals and the gym. So this week I'm meal prepping today for the rest of the week and trying to go to the gym 3 times in the week and once at the weekend (because I'm meeting a friend for lunch on the Saturday and my gym won't be open when I get home).

Aiming for whole foods, steps and some exercise this week.

sfraxx · 01/04/2024 10:09

Morning everyone and happy easter.
I weighed this morning and my scales gave me all different weighs from 6lbs lighter to 12lbs heavier😂 I managed to reset them and got the same consistent weight about 5 times of 0.1lb gain from last week. Not really surprised, if anything shocked as I've munched lots of left over eggs and chocolate and also went to the zoo on Saturday and wired into the kids picnic lol. I think I'll be heading out for new scales today though as these seem a bit temperamental and the last thing I need is for them to give me the wrong weight and I'm mentally beating myself up about it. How are you all doing? I'm out at work this morning, bank holiday rush with staff sickness today so not even had time for breakfast x

Not2bObvious · 02/04/2024 10:05

Sounds like a new scales is definitely in order sfraxx, I check from time to time with a kettle bell. The scales are enough of a pain without it being a guessing game!
Demolished a lot of eggs yesterday so have the guilt today, put what's left away so I'm not picking. I'm trying to last on a large skinny cappuccino until lunch, I've so must sugary carbs in my system I need a break.

sfraxx · 03/04/2024 09:21

I didn't manage to get new scales but being off work today I'll definitely be going for new ones. As this morning I was all over the place, even after resetting wasn't getting a consistent weight and it's made me feel awful. Everyday I've burned (according to my fitbit) 3200 calories. And I'm eating 1250. This alone is definitely enough to be losing weight but I'm now gaining😰 my job is very demanding and I'm on my feet for 12 hours a day running riot lol. I hate these bits as I feel I'm stumped. 1 month tomorrow I have been on my diet and I've only lost 7lbs. For someone who needs to lose around 4.5 stone to be in a healthy bracket. I am just not losing it. This happens every time, I do so well the first 2 weeks and then it stalls for months or I start gaining. Albeit did have some eggs over the weekend but near as much as enough to make me gain weight. I'm also drinking 3 litres of water a day. Which I am finding quite easy believe it or not. I have not been buying fizzy juice, not even diet so I'm forced to drink water lol. I shouldn't have weighed myself today anyway 1 being dodgy scales the other is weigh day is Thursday. So new scales today and only time will tell tomorrow morning.
How do you guys do the weigh day? Do you do in the morning after pee and before breakfast? A work colleague told me weighing yourself in the morning is the worst time. Surely in the morning you're your lightest lol xxx

Not2bObvious · 03/04/2024 17:14

I don't know in what world would weighing yourself first thing be the worst idea (after pee before food or drink).
I think 7 pounds in a month is excellent, I could do with losing 4 stone to be the type of slim I'd love (to go from close to 13 stone to around 9 stone) and it takes me closer to 2 months to see that. And that includes the up/down pattern that drives us all mad. Activity trackers generally overestimate burn and humans can easily underestimate calories. Apologies if you said already but do you weigh & measure your food?
Losing 7 in 4 weeks would point to you having around 1000 calorie deficit a day which is pretty hardcore especially if you're on your feet 12 hours. Get your new scales, decide a set weigh in day and give it time. I've heard some people say weigh every second week to iron out flux, I'm never that patient.

sfraxx · 04/04/2024 09:15

Oh I'm definitely not that patient either lol. I have bought new scales. Weigh in today was 83kg (I don't know how to change them from kg to lbs or st) which when inputed onto my app, says I'm 13st1lb. So total loss is 8lbs in 4 weeks. I guess I feel slightly disheartened because I've been so consistent, I expected at least a 2lb loss per week. This week is only 1lb. On average I burn around 2700 and 3500 calories. Yeah I weigh out all my food, I never used too when dieting and this is what I changed. I literally weigh everything, my husband hates if he's plating up dinner and I'm like ooh wait, weigh that mashed potato😂😂 I believed I'd have been able to lose the 2.5 stone between march and june but it's not looking likely now lol but a loss is a loss I suppose.
