Is anyone up for a gentle weight loss thread?

As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

Dear thread-pals, I very much didn't draw a line under yesterday's eating 😬

Hoglet70 · 12/03/2024 20:22

@HelpMeOutOfHere oops!

BarrysTeaForMe · 12/03/2024 20:55

<Gives @HelpMeOutOfHere a gentle poke>

Get back to it now 😁

HelpMeOutOfHere · 13/03/2024 18:42

Thank you for the poke @BarrysTeaForMe
Normal service has been resumed today 😂

PurplePositivity · 13/03/2024 20:01

Mid week check in (just had to double check that it is in fact Wednesday!)

How's everyone getting on?

Hoglet70 · 14/03/2024 06:49

Still alive, hungry, counting down the seconds until Friday.... (although DH has just announced that he's going in to work on Saturday morning so Fuck it Friday's wine has now been moved to Sod it Saturday).

BarrysTeaForMe · 14/03/2024 08:04

Hello all, I'm two weeks on the new regime today, the three meals no snacks routine which also means no daily chocolate or alcohol. And fasting for 12 or 13 hours. Any longer and I'm miserable.

I've tightened my belt up a notch or two so that's good. I'm not feeling too deprived either as it's not too long a wait between meals. I'm going to have a treat one day at the weekend. It's St.Patrick's Day on Sunday so that's the day. I'll do a weigh in before Easter. Good luck everyone.

Octopus45 · 16/03/2024 10:01

Hi, I'm back, sorry I keep going AWOL. I haven't been doing very well recently, need to rethink my portion sizes and things that fill me up. Ironically, in the past I've found having a ready meal helps cause I know how many calories are in it and it helps with portion control. I might start doing that for my evening meal sometimes, even though I know ready meals are frowned at. Weighed 9st5.75 this morning. If I can get to 9st4 by next Saturday I'll be delighted.

@Octopus45 I think ready meals with a big heap of veg are really good when I'm counting. Sod what's frowned on, it's what works!!

HelpMeOutOfHere · 16/03/2024 20:34

I agree re the ready meals. Bulked up with veg, they can be a handy option.

Octopus45 · 18/03/2024 07:56

Thanks @hoglet70 and @HelpMeOutOfHere . I'm on day 3 of healthier eating, not doing too badly, less energy, cannot cut out carbs totally cause I just get a headache, but definitely aiming for less.

Measuring day for me today & no loss but also no gain Grin

Hoglet70 · 18/03/2024 20:00

@PurplePositivity haha not gaining is always worth a celebration!

BarrysTeaForMe · 18/03/2024 21:15

Hi all. I've enjoyed a celebratory weekend and eaten many tasty things in honour of St. Patrick, so I'm back on the bandwagon tomorrow. I'll do a weigh-in at the end of the month 🤞

HelpMeOutOfHere · 19/03/2024 13:41

Hey everyone.

I'm just bumbling along to be honest 😂

But I think I'm comfortable with this at the moment.

Not2bObvious · 21/03/2024 18:13

Back from my few days away and scales is not my friend. On the plus side I'm sick of eating so much rich food so it might be easier to get back on track.
Hope everyone is getting on great

Octopus45 · 22/03/2024 07:56

I'm 2.75 pounds down this week. Pleased, but know its going to get harder now. The main thing I'm trying to do is eat fewer carbs, but I am still eating some. I'm still eating a cereal bar for breakfast and eating those microwave jacket potatoes. I also ate a piece of chocolate cake on Tuesday, but I'm trying to keep things like that to occasional treats rather than things I eat several times a day. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

That's brilliant Octopus, does that mean you hit your target you set last week? I never know what's best with weighing, I do daily for a while, see progress, then see a jump & get disheartened. My logic brain knows it's normal, but my dieters brain gets proper bent out of shape. I'm just under 13 stone, literally scrapping under it at 12st12.6lb - that's hard to admit. I spent a long time (years!) around 11st7lb-11st10lb, but realistically I've been well into the 12 stone bracket for the last year plus, now I'm starting to nudge into 13 stone. I suppose I'll just have to keep going and not lose heart

Hoglet70 · 25/03/2024 09:59

How's everyone's weekend been? I haven't stopped eating and we are going away for Easter so am feeling a bit meh, it's all ruined, this morning. I shall try and be good in the in-between bits anyway but cross with myself.

Not2bObvious · 25/03/2024 14:52

I ate rings around myself Friday and even worse Saturday, so contradictory considering my epiphany about my weight creep. Well it's done now. Did a bit better yesterday and back on track today, got a walk in & did a beginners weight program which took around 20 mins. I feel like I've pulled something, great start😂.
@Hoglet70 - don't despair, I do more damage in my "why didn't I bother" moments than I do any other time. You've a few days to go, don't over restrict though, that's a gateway to losing the run of yourself on hols. Maybe focus on protein, fibre, walking and water for the next few days. You could drop a bit of water weight and feel it in your clothes if you give it a shot, I know I can feel 4 days overeating so surely 4 days good behaviour can have a bit of positive effect?

HelpMeOutOfHere · 26/03/2024 07:52

Hi all.

I'm still keeping on keeping on (with ups and downs!).

I'm on a down at the moment, weight-wise and energy-wise, as I had a sickness bug 🤢. Not ideal!

I hope everyone has a good day.

BarrysTeaForMe · 26/03/2024 08:57

Hi everyone! We had a birthday in the family on Sunday and I had cake which was lovely and it was also lovely on Monday :) I need to have a few normal days now before the Easter weekend. I feel I'm in holiday mode so I need to give myself a gentle poke. I hope you're on the mend @HelpMeOutOfHere Those bugs are a dose! Take care all.

HelpMeOutOfHere · 26/03/2024 10:13

Thank you @BarrysTeaForMe ❤️

Not2bObvious · 27/03/2024 08:34

I'm still aching after my 20 min weighs on Monday, I knew it would happen - doesn't help though as I'm dragging myself around, dreading the stairs😂 Still getting my walks in and I'll do a second session tomorrow, try work up to 3-4 a week. Food is going well, keeping the protein up, keeping treat food to after dinner and to a reasonable amount. The long weekend will be a challenge, out for dinner Friday, company over for lunch Sunday. I'll just try my best, try not to eat all the Easter eggs!

I’m so fed up with my incremental weight gain. Late 50s and been menopausal since I was 42.
I need to lose 8lb for health reasons as my GP has recommended. I feel totally uninspired about this but I know life/health choices I make now will have a big impact on my later life - blood sugar is an issue.
So I’m in. Advice and tips gratefully received!!
