Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

@Walker182 a big walk sounds like a great plan! Hope you have better weather than me, it's freezing and foggy here 🥶

@wheresmyshoe so jealous of the holiday!! I think a generous amount of leeway is needed on holiday, life is for living after all Smile

@Philippa7 Sorry to hear that, it is really demotivating isn't it. I know it's not for everyone but this is why I weigh daily and use my Fitbit app to track the weekly average and general downward trend. You might've been 2lb lighter earlier in the week but then for whatever reason fluctuated up again, which makes weekly weigh ins tricky. Similarly to your diagram I've seen suggestions to compare week 1 of your cycle to the following month's week 1, week 2 to week 2 etc.

I've been measuring my waist/tummy/hips weekly since starting and the numbers haven't changed until today! Finally an inch down on all measurements Smile

I’m going to give this a go- thanks for the advice!

Congrats on the measurements! 🍾

Hmm. Ovulation day (ish). Suddenly a whole kilo up! WTF. Belly super bloated and feeling like my tummy is a balloon. Arrrgh. All this progress, and now this!

Solidarity! I could have written this exact post! I tried fasting until 11am to see if my weight went down and it’s 200g higher!

Heya, I'd like to join this party please! Quite a few years ago I one by one cut out meat, bread, then dairy and lost weight very easily. Since having my daughter nearly 5 years ago I snack and binge on mostly carbs and cheese throughout the day as it's quick and easy to eat and prepare, without much washing up. I also have a lot of take-aways and allow myself burgers a couple of times a week, as it's easy. It kinda all started in the lockdown also, when it was a stress to go round the shops every day.

I've gone from a size 10 to a size 16-18, and I keep getting colds, flu, mucus etc.
I've just bought an air fryer on sale, and this has given me the kick up the bum to do my diet once more, as well as catching a sight of myself in my swimming costume at the pool yesterday.

I'm going to reduce calories for the next few weeks, as I'm sure I have plenty of cheese fat swimming around my organs to keep me going for a while, and cutting bread and cheese completely. (Although may occasionally eat some rye bread).

I started yesterday, late afternoon. Last night was the hardest, as I knew I had crumpets, mozzarella cheese, crisps and mushrooms in the kitchen, and this combination is the ultimate comfort food for me. I had to sit through my carb cravings all night, after a green salad for dinner, and ate some sugar free granola for a late night snack.

I've had a banana and half an orange for breakfast and just having some granola for lunch.

I'll probably have another salad for dinner, maybe with prawns this time.

When I get really bad sugar and salty carb cravings, I try and knock back a shot of raw apple cider vinegar. It usually helps my tongue a bit with the cravings. I've heard it kills the candida in the stomach which adds to the cravings.

I'm usually an all or nothing person, so if I allow myself a bit of bread here, or a bit of cheese there, it opens the floodgates. I need to go to cheeseburgers-anonymous. So I'm going extreme.

I'm going to gradually add more things back into my diet after a couple of weeks of less calories. Going to keep it simple to begin with, so I don't have to think too much about shopping.

There's crisps sitting in my cupboard right now and I'm doing everything I can not to open them up and have a crunch!

wheresmyshoe · 11/02/2024 12:13

Well done on the inch down @popplego it's so satisfying when your clothes fit better.

yoshiblue · 11/02/2024 12:51

Checking in to say I've made it to 9, 6.5lbs, from 9, 11.5lbs on 1st Jan. it's coming off slowly but have really refocused my diet in the past week, now counting calories on Nutracheck. No alcohol since new year, I'm doing 3 months off minimum.

Part way through reading James Smiths' 'Not a Diet Book' from the library which is super helpful.

Well done! 🎉 I’m gonna give Nutrachexk a bash…

I've had a more calorific afternoon than I expected at a baby shower 🫣 I didn't eat much buffet at all but did have a small Prosecco and some cheesecake! I felt rude to say no in the host's home.

Expecting an upward fluctuation on the scales in the morning but hey, tomorrow is a new day and a new week!

TheDogdidGood · 11/02/2024 19:44

My weight has gone up slightly so since I only joined the thread last week I’ll start afresh from here..

Starting weight 11 stone 2.4
Target weight 10 stone (or Size 12 whichever comes first)

Ah life is for living! If I’d not had a Prosecco and bit of cheesecake I’d be sitting here now feeling terribly sorry for myself. 😁

Philippa7 · 11/02/2024 20:42

And remember @popplego , even if the scale does go up, it’s not actual fat. You definitely didn’t eat enough calories to gain even half a pound of fat.

popplego · 11/02/2024 20:51

@Philippa7 absolutely! And the cheesecake was good 😂 I think this is why daily weighing helps for me, I know if anything it's water retention and will hopefully fall away again by the end of the week. I saw some photos from the baby shower and thought jeez yes let's definitely continue this diet.

Wishing everyone a positive week! 💫

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/02/2024 22:24

Can I join?

I’m 5’3” and my weight has crept up to 10st ☹️ Need to lose a stone. I have zero willpower and love chocolate and cake too much. As some of you I’ve been skipping breakfast some days and having an egg based brunch.

popplego · 12/02/2024 07:14

Hi @bendmeoverbackwards Smile I'm similar to you although shorter (5'1.5) and started at 10st too. What are your plans for how to lose your stone?

FiveShelties · 12/02/2024 20:46

Weighing in today and I am down to 10st 4.6lbs, which is a 1.2 loss this week. I have lost 8.4 pounds, so 5.4 lbs to go.

Very pleased with that😁and very grateful for all the other posters who share their struggles and successes.

SW 2nd January. 10st 13lbs
CW 13th February 10st 4.6lbs
Loss 8.4 lbs
GW 9st 13lbs

No idea yet! What are you doing and how’s it going?

Scottishskifun · 12/02/2024 22:00

I'm not weighing this week, period plus sick child and extreme stress at work means it might tip me over the edge and I know I will have water weight. I'm going for damage limitation still intermittent fasting (it helps reduce my pain symptoms) and going for big veg portions.

popplego · 12/02/2024 22:20

@FiveShelties amazing! Well done 👏🏻

@Scottishskifun Life gets in the way sometimes, sorry you're having a rough time. It sounds like you have a good plan though.

@bendmeoverbackwards I'm currently eating 1400cals a day and weight training at the gym usually 3x a week. Half a stone down so far but need to keep the motivation going!

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/02/2024 22:39

That’s fantastic @popplego 👏👏 How are you sticking to 1,400 cals? Just 2 meals a day?

shearwater2 · 13/02/2024 09:22

Well done everyone.

Absolutely delighted to report a 3lb loss this week. So that's 5lbs off in three weeks.

I'd also switched from 5:2 - as I've increased the workouts the low calorie days were nigh on impossible and I'm really feeling the need for a filling breakfast so 16:8 is out too, though most days I naturally do 14:10 anyway. I even went 400 calories over for the week but with 4000+ calories from exercise I guess it wasn't an issue! 12000 calories a week seems to be the magic number. Also hitting protein targets, fibre, and not too much alcohol.

So 5lbs off since I joined the thread three weeks ago. 9lbs to go to hit the stone mark, then a further 9lbs to go to goal weight.

SW (04.09.23) 13st 6lbs
SW (23.01.24) 12 st 9lbs
CW (13.02.24) 12st 4lbs
One stone off (?) 11st 9lbs
GW (?) 11st 0lbs

BranchGold · 13/02/2024 09:55

Hi everyone, the dreaded period has started today and I’m fighting a battle not to just say fuck it and get a kfc with a large chocolate bar after!

The carb cravings are so, so hard to ignore! I just want some lovely bread and cake.

Im having a curry ready meal for my dinner tonight, with some broccoli and maybe one of those cauli rice pouches.

Debating what to have at lunch time, that’s ideally 200/300 calories.

Cathy31 · 13/02/2024 10:38

I'm on holiday now, no idea if having the time to swim every day, and dinner cooked by someone else, will help or if the menu of delicious food will hinder my weight loss. I haven't weighed myself in a while but won't have lost anything between joining the thread and now. I think in my mind this holiday was the starting point because it's only after it that I can start establishing proper habits. Some of you have done brilliantly very inspiring!

Swearwolf · 13/02/2024 10:57

I'm not weighing this week either, we've had guests all weekend so more wine and pudding than I would naturally have had, and it's now half term so not only am I getting fewer chances to exercise (I work from home so usually get a run or walk in during the day) but we've got a couple of days out planned where we will be eating out.

I plan to just go with it and try to be as mindful as I can while still enjoying it. Then back to routine next week.

froidIci · 13/02/2024 11:18

Well done on all the losses!

I am apalled by ovulation to be honest and it has now officially exceeded menstruation in terms of impact. Ovulation causes me - and is causing me this week -

  1. Enormous hunger - as in needing to eat lots all day
  2. Bloated to extent of looking pregnant (i normally have a fat tummy)
  3. Constipated (sorry)
  4. Insomnia
  5. Water retention - and invariable 1 kilo of the 3.5 kilos lost so far is suddenly back.

I honestly lost more during my period 2 weeks ago than the gain during ovulation and I am appalled!
