Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

Stayed the same. Ah well.

JustFrustrated · 06/02/2024 08:34

I've plateaud. So going to attempt the gym tonight.

I say attempt because I really want to go. My motivation is there, but my body is working against me.

We had Hib B in our lungs which then gave me an ear infection to boot, I'm on my sixth course of antibiotics since the year started and still deaf, and still got discharge in my ear. And now I've woken up with a cold.

But! I figure exercise may help my body.

I'm sick of feeling sick haha.

I’ve made up my own plan to eat less bread and called it No Breadruary. 😊
I love bread and it’s my easy go to for lunches and breakfasts.
I’m planning easy alternatives each day - soup with crackers and cheese etc.
Ive printed out a calendar page for Feb and am ticking it off each night. So far so good.
Am not overloading myself with lots of other diet related things - this is a good start.

@Cherryblossom81 yes let's be weight loss buddies! I don't count calories, just don't have the headspace. I'm just trying to limit snacks and chocolate. If I could stop snacking between lunch and dinner I think I'd be at my goal weight soon. What's your strategy?

I'm lowering my carbs (not cutting out completely but mainly focusing on veg etc for carbs). Also aiming to not snack in the afternoon.
I'm wondering about exercise? I generally walk at least 15,000 steps a day, but don't really do any other exercise.

froidIci · 06/02/2024 11:02

Excellent to see everyone's strategies. I have myself been ill and lost appetite and this has translated into more weight loss (which should be ignored as my appetite and tastebuds will awaken soon enough!).

I am finding having good quality and yummy proteins and veggies goes a long way in creating satiety beyond just filling belly - that sense of comfort etc. And not just boiled veggies but actually doing something interesting with them.. otherwise there's a sense of deprivation/FOMO...

So far today I've had 5 oatcakes with peanut butter and an apple, then celeriac, apple and put lentil soup with bread and butter and a square of chocolate. Plus two coffees and probably not enough water. Baby barely slept last night, but I'm definitely going to gym this evening. Not sure what to have for dinner, which is always my downfall. I'll weigh later in the week.

@Cherryblossom81 I don't track steps, no idea what my count would be. Just gym 3xper week ideally. I'd love to go swimming too, but really struggling to find the time. But I think food intake is the only way to lose weight anyway, so I'm only exercising for the pleasure of it.

popplego · 06/02/2024 15:14

Sorry to hear so many people have been ill lately! There's always so much going around at this time of year.

I've been to the gym today and calories are on track so far. Just debating what to have for dinner which I always really struggle with. DH is the chef in this house and he does all the food shopping/meal planning, but he's working late all week so I'm left to fend for myself 😂

Scales showed another 0.5lb loss this morning but I feel like I'm definitely overdue an upwards fluctuation by now.

froidIci · 06/02/2024 18:50

Wow well done all for all the losses!!!

I am now officially 1/2 stone done and down and discovering that -

  1. it feels entirely okay to not add salt to my plate and I don’t miss it
  2. It also feels okay and not panic inducing to not evening snack
  3. That there are several nice teas in the world…

Good luck with dinners everyone!

Well done @froidIci - what a turn around on the salt situation! Smile

GreenMarigold · 06/02/2024 21:34

No loss for me this week but glad my 2lb loss last week wasn’t just a trick of the scales!

I’ve done at least 10k steps every day and eaten ok. I had a mixed grill tonight with chicken, peppers, shallots and tomatoes. It was great!

I tried having overnight oats instead of Greek yogurt and granola for breakfast but I think I’ve been hungrier with the more substantial breakfast. I’ll try switching back this week.

FiveShelties · 07/02/2024 01:45

Not a huge loss for me this week, but a loss is a loss. 0.8 pounds this week so means I have lost 7.2 pounds in 5 weeks and 6.8 pounds to go. I seem to be really motivated Monday to Friday around 6pm and then the wheels drop off! Out tonight and Friday night so hoping for another loss next week.😁

SW 2nd January 10 13.0
CW 6th February 10 5.8
6.8 pounds to go
TW 9 stone 13 pounds

I'm up for the day with the baby 😫Going to need a lot of discipline not to eat all the sugar to combat tiredness. And yesterday went downhill after lunch - I had some hummus and ryvita, then some strawberry yoghurt (sugar!!!), then another sq of chocolate, and a biscuit , then later 2 pieces of toast with butter and marmite. Not sure if it added up to loads of calories, but just not that healthy. But I loved the gym. Going again this evening. The plan for today is:
B: oatcakes, peanut butter, fruit
L: soup and bread, fruit
D: ??? Downfall here again.

Swearwolf · 07/02/2024 06:40

66kg this morning! That 0.4kg was just a blip. That's 1.5kg lost since Mid-january, or 3.3lb. Not amazing, but I'm going for slow and steady, and I'm quite short.

Go easy on yourself, the sleep deprivation is a killer. Sounds like you are doing well to me.

I haven’t been posting much as I haven’t been keeping to my goals and feeling really discouraged. But post period I haven’t gained despite not being as disciplined as I should have been and now am ready to attack this diet with renewed vigour! Seeing other people on a similar boat has been inspiring and reflecting on the past few weeks I haven’t been as “bad” as I thought I was being.
total loss in Jan 1.5kg, aiming for 2kg loss at least in feb.

katedan · 07/02/2024 12:08

Wow this is a great thread, have not been able to post much myself but feeling happy today as lost 4lbs in total in a month, which is less than I hoped but I am doing it slowly and still enjoying gin/wine at the weekend and a couple of meals out with friends. Want this to be a life change as opposed to a diet. Also training for a half marathon so looking to be fit.

froidIci · 07/02/2024 18:14

What’s everyone having for dinner tonight ?

At ours it’s pan-fried salmon in obscene amounts of garlic… with roasted carrots and broccoli!

Rest of family - not me - also having rice with that.

OP posts:
wheresmyshoe · 07/02/2024 18:29

Provençal lentils for me (427 calories), Mr Shoe will be supplementing his with sausages.

Swearwolf · 07/02/2024 18:54

I've made sweet potato chilli, I'm so hungry but putting off snacking very successfully

That sounds delicious!

2 x low carb sweet chilli chicken and salad wraps for me. Quick and easy.

Trying to resist snacking this evening as I'm very close to my calorie limit after a bigger than usual lunch...

froidIci · 07/02/2024 19:23

Ooh what are low carb wraps please? Very intrigued and hopeful!

We had roast chicken for dinner - I do it in a ninja foodie so that with the potatoes takes 30 mins (I then air fry the potatoes further for 15 mins) with lots of green veg and a simple gravy. It comes in around 550 calories (think this is an over estimation as I use zero oil)

I read a article today about eating veg first on the plate followed by protein and finally the carb to help you feel fuller longer due to the fibre and also help you reduce sugar spikes from the carbs.

Cathy31 · 08/02/2024 07:40

Yesterday was a disaster, inevitably. Ok until post lunch slump, then omg the chocolate I ate. And no gym, of course.

Not knowing what I'll have for dinner for some reason means I end up snacking constantly after lunch, I think probably telling myself this is instead of dinner. Which it often is, but nutrition and calorie wise it's definitely worse.

And then with a baby, life is just about keeping afloat at the moment. A dreadful night sets me back, so it's difficult to establish good habits.

Feeling pretty down about it all this morning tbh. I know the baby will sleep well someday, and I'll stop breastfeeding, and this is just not a good stage in life to be trying to lose weight and tone up. But I'm tired of feeling heavy and flabby, of having such limited options for what to wear, and of eating so badly. 😔

Would it help to maybe park the gym to one side for a bit, and solely have 1 single habit to develop on your very full plate? For example you could say - Gym starts in Month X; tracking weight will begin in 2 months from now - but currently in "Prep Phase" - I will put in A and B good habits. That's it. Would removing all these simultaneous targets, and putting in some very short term, short term, medium term targets spread out the pressure you are feeling?
