Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

froidIci · 17/01/2024 13:27

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

Tonight is going to be a takeaway night after AGES. Period + poorly + Dh poorly.

Wonder what takeaways can avoid bread/rice/pasta/potatoes …..

Burgers without the bun and fries are just meat and salad….

curries without rice are fairly soulless ….

Kebabs/grillled meat and salad are okay but somehow don’t fancy them!

Chinese/asian calls for lovely fried rice too!

oh dear.

I'm making hunters chicken and potato wedges tonight.

Somehow it's only 518 calories a portion and 49g of protein.

So happy days. Better than the 1000+ at the local pub.

See, I'd have a curry and chapati tonight if I needed a takeaway, as all the options round here are pants

Scottishskifun · 01/02/2024 18:36

@froidIci what about sushi but get a sashimi platter and miso soup?

Or could do a curry with a roti rather then rice?
Or a wagamamas soup with no noodles?

We are having satay chicken (homemade) but I'm having courgetti noodles instead.

BranchGold · 01/02/2024 18:38

Do you have any Japanese/thai options near you @froidIci? I think some rice noodles aren’t completely terrible, and I love the Thai starters which can tend to be more lean proteins, like satay chicken, Thai fishcakes etc.

froidIci · 01/02/2024 18:41

Yes I think Asian it is! Thanks very much for the inspiration!

popplego · 01/02/2024 19:23

Ooh very jealous of Asian takeaway!! I've settled for a pretty boring but quick wholewheat pasta with tuna and a tomatoey sauce. Still eating all the carbs here 😅 though maybe that may change if weight loss stalls further down the line.

Happy Friday everyone. I hope you’re all feeling positive about the weekend. I need to be careful this weekend because I had another sneaky weigh in today (I prefer to weigh on a Monday so I don’t have too many treats this weekend off the back of being lighter today then be back to square 1) and I’m 6 pound down from two weeks ago today. I still have a way to go though as I had a bit more than a stone to lose but I am really happy to have done it with no fad diets, disordered eating, gruelling exercise or hunger! Eg I had a chocolate croissant for breakfast yesterday - just within my calories. It has been such a game changer for me: not thinking in terms of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ food. I am also trying to avoid language like ‘cheat’ meals as I’m aiming for everything in moderation. What's everyone having for dinner tonight/this weekend? I need some inspiration.

froidIci · 02/02/2024 14:58

Woohoo well done!

Its a chicken stir fry at ours for dinner - with noodles for the rest of fam. Weekends always tricky - but I plan to cook a curry at some point, a roast chicken at another point, and then not sure what for our weekly Date Night "Fake-Away".

Hope you’re much better! It all sounds delicious! It’s so great being on a “diet” thread that isn’t about purging with excessive exercise or eating depressing salads without dressing. Thank you everyone for your great ideas. I read them all. We get meal kits now and again and they’re good for takeaways. I really like Simply Cook.

shearwater2 · 02/02/2024 15:03

I've had a very nice treat Friday so far of a bacon roll & flat white for breakfast (549 calories), prawn salad and glass of wine for lunch (552 calories) then I'll probably have chip shop chips and Bisto gravy (chippy doesn't do gravy - IKR??) for dinner (634 calories). Another nice weekend ahead where we're away for DD2's birthday and will probably go to the pub tomorrow night, so I'll have to allow for that.

Oh yes, it absolutely has to be like that for me. This diet is for life, not just for post Christmas, AFAIC.

Well done on the six pound loss. I hope I'll lose again this week, as long as I don't go off piste at the weekend and keep logging everything.

froidIci · 02/02/2024 16:16

Woohoo : I’ve now had 3 kilos gone and I’m still on my period so that’s huge.

My biggest two changes to far have been -

  1. I have stopped adding salt to my plate of food after having done so for 39 years. (Can I just say how HARD it has been?)
  2. I have stopped snacking in the evening

I genuinely - genuinely - think these habits are worth more to me than the 3 kilos.

This thread is perfect.

I got on the scales this morning and have lost 3/4 of a lb from last week’s weigh in so a little progress! I’ve been really good at being within my calorie count this week and have also been good at not snacking on chocolate and instead having a few grapes/few baby plum tomatoes if I want a snack 👍🏻 I will be having a glass of wine tonight after the kids are in bed so looking forward to that, and I have a couple of mini tapas things for dinner as a treat too 😊👍🏻 should still actually come in near my calorie count too!

It’s so good and refreshing to see stuff that seem out of place on a diet thread like a glass of wine and mention of the chippy and pub. I am realising more and more that it was the banned foods element of why my diets have failed spectacularly in the past - or I lost weight quickly after restricting and living miserably for a period so then inevitably gained it all when eating normally again.

Ah I’d prob still have a nice pub dinner or lunch and walk loads and maybe I’d make smart choices with breakfast - or maybe not and I’d do this when back home. Have a lovely weekend. Life is for living.

Amazing! Well done! It’ll be more post period.

My mother has a theory that before the menopause her PMT (mainly awful bloating causing weight gain) became pretty much non-existent after drastically reducing her salt and eating better. She agreed that it was also contributed to by the fact she was no longer eating carby UPFs and using her period as an excuse.

popplego · 02/02/2024 21:43

Congrats on more losses guys! And keeping up the good new habits, great work Smile

I love reading about what everyone's eating, like others have said it's so refreshing to be on a diet thread that's not about obsessively restricting yourself or constant salads. I'm on 1350 cals for today at this point (including the handful of cadburys buttons that I'm currently eating Grin)

My period started today so I'm interested to see what the scales do over the next couple of days. I work in apprenticeships in HE and we have ofsted coming on Monday too so that's a heck of a combo to test my willpower 😬🫠

froidIci · 03/02/2024 07:52

Good morning!

Voila: reached the HALF STONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to note for myself the habits that got me here -

  1. Regular posting on here and learning from others’ insights
  2. Following my personal approach (ie for some it’s calorie counting and for me it’s Not consuming gluten (as I cannot tolerate it) but also potatoes and rice)
  3. Not snacking after dinner is finished
  4. A 8 hour eating window 12-8
  5. Not adding salt to my food and consciously monitoring salt intake
  6. Planning for and allowing treats, enjoyment and occasions or events

It’s wonderful listening to you all and your insights and food choices.

Congratulations @froidIci that's a brilliant milestone! StarSmile

I'm currently 5lb down from my start weight, hoping I can reach the half stone milestone in February too Smile

lisam78 · 03/02/2024 09:15

Good morning. I finally managed to lose that pound, and weighed in at 10st 9lbs this morning- the scales hadn't budged from 10st 10lbs since early December. Let's hope it doesn't take so long to lose the next pound!

Walker182 · 03/02/2024 09:17

The scales are down a little more today to exactly 147lbs, I'm not sure exactly what I class as my starting weight as the scales were a bit all over the place the first 3-4 days but that's a loss of just over 3lbs since the start of Jan. On the one hand I don't feel like it's a lot, but I haven't felt massively restricted so I'm wondering whether that's the way to continue or if I would like to ramp it up a little. Dry January probably contributed quite a lot to my loss, so im going to try my best to limit my alcohol intake this month, I don't think ill have the willpower to do another month!

Swearwolf · 03/02/2024 09:57

Well done everyone! I'm weighing myself on Monday but I'm feeling good and focusing on that. I feel as though my stomach is a bit flatter and my face is less puffy, and I'm feeling positive and motivated and pleased with how well I'm sticking to healthy habits. I did have a couple of glasses of wine last night and a tiny magnum (which in-laws brought over last time they came for dinner, dammit), but I don't feel like anything has been lost or like I've fallen off any kind of wagon.

Here's to an active and happy weekend!

Scottishskifun · 03/02/2024 10:06

I'm also a Monday weigher as I find it keeps me from going ooo look how well I've done and blowing it in a weekend!

We have DS2 birthday this weekend so lunch out but buying a cake I can't eat (Im gluten free) so that should limit it slightly!

@Walker182 I keep drinking low but have also switched to lower alternatives so a g and t is 100 calories rather then 250-350 per glass of wine.

BranchGold · 03/02/2024 10:16

Well done everyone on the weight loss, as well as the mindset/good habit shifts. It’s worth knowing that even if the scales aren’t showing an immediate result, having a positive attitude is also a big win.

My scales finally moved today, 0.2kg! But it put me into 59kg for the first time in a while, and officially half a stone off so that’s pleasing.

Planning to have duck breast this evening with some tender stem broccoli and pak Choi, as well as a glass of wine. Has anyone tried those low calorie noodles? Is it worth giving them a go with some soy sauce/chilli oil and spring onions? Or will I be very disappointed.

I have much to say on the zero carb noodles. I bought the £2 ones for last Sundays Chinese fake away. I found that they do work very well IF the sauce/oil is really substantial - and there’s loads of chilli garlic etc involved.

You cannot get away with it in a bland sauce like bolognese or carbonara - no chance
