My New Year’s resolution was to lose weight. I finally got my act together when I started to eat a lot less carbs in July and since then my weight has dropped from
89 kilos to 71 kilos. I literally can’t believe it, I’ve lost 20% of my body weight and have been really enjoying the Christmas season going out and wearing lots of sparkles.

I managed and tonight too, but I was sick (in the street!!!) earlier so wine wasn't appealing

Similar food today, actually feel a bit less stodged, if that makes sense

Amdone123 · 13/01/2024 07:04

@Tilllly hope you're ok ?

It makes a lot of sense as when I did keto ( not for long - about a week), my stomach was flatter than ever.
I'll be starting Sunday. Today is my day off.

Tilllly · 13/01/2024 07:43

Yes thanks @Amdone123
Had chemo on Wed and wasn't fast enuf with meds is all. Wasn't my finest moment but on the bright side, wasn't that hungry either!
Sunday is an unusual day to start? That's always been my day off from anything!
You ready?

Luckydog7 · 13/01/2024 07:56

@Tilllly

Sorry to hear that you are unwell. Thought I would mention that there is some interesting emerging science that keto diets may make chemo more effective by reducing glucose in the body. I've been reading about it a lot recently because of my own genetic risk.

Interesting

Do you have any links?

Amdone123 · 13/01/2024 10:10

@Tilllly
I thought Sunday as I'll not be hungover tomorrow and I'll get up early and walk to Aldi.
I've got my list. I'm keeping it quite simple.

Sunseed · 13/01/2024 11:14

@Amdone123 Having a list (and sticking to it!!) definitely helps.

I watched something this week with Michael Moseley looking at people's shopping trolleys and he was quite right.... I put the 'right' stuff in but it's all the other unhealthy stuff that sneaks in too which is the problem. And once it's been bought I then feel compelled to eat it.

Better with wine this week. None on Thursday, 2 glasses last night, but will try very hard not to have any tonight.

Luckydog7 · 13/01/2024 11:15

@Tilllly WebMD (and many others) reported on it but the studies were done by others. I'm not claiming that keto is a miracle cure but it certainly doesn't seems to make things worse.

Lots of the modern growing diseases (cancer, diabetes t2, dementia) have links to insulin and glucose, something that has increased in the modern diet in recent decades so it makes sense on the face of it. Keto is also recommended as a treatment in t2 diabetes in many cases. There are recent threads on mn about diabetes being 'cured' by lowering carbs, drugs reduced to nothing.

waistchallenge · 13/01/2024 11:19

It's always best to say type 2 diabetes when talking about this kind of thing, because as I understand it type 1s get upset because this really doesn't apply to them but they have to keep hearing it. Also, it's "put into remission", not cured. If a type 2 puts the weight back on they will still have the diabetes.

Tilllly · 13/01/2024 13:20

Thanks @Luckydog7
I'll look into it

Wetherspoons for lunch
Wanted panini and chips, have got chicken salad

Good plan!
Good luck 💪🏻

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 08:52

Today is the day. And it's beautiful here, which will make my walking much more pleasant.

SW : 13st 3.
I'm going to concentrate on the next 5 days. Low carb ( brunch, tea, a few snacks), increase water, not wine, and I'll weigh Friday.

@Tilllly well done on the healthy choice yesterday. How are you doing overall ?

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 08:56

Whilst I don't snack much - or at least I thought I didn't, I realised not long ago, I actually do !
I think that's where I've failed before.
I've looked into low carb snacks. I've made parmesan crisps ( I'm obsessed with them), I'm going to make bark today ( dark choc, berries, few nuts) and I remembered a mousse I enjoyed ( Greek yoghurt, low calorie jelly - eat before it sets. You could have with a few strawberries).

waistchallenge · 14/01/2024 13:10

If anyone has issues with grazing and snacking, intermittent fasting can help as it really highlights when you have been snacking every time you stop working and reach for a snack then think "oh no"! 😁

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 13:40

@waistchallenge yes, another thing I read that made me think.....when you think you're hungry / peckish, if it's a wagon wheel you want or some chicken - soon helps you decide !

Tilllly · 14/01/2024 14:30

How is day 1 going @Amdone123 ?

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 15:10

It's going great thanks. Brunch was crispy bacon ( I wasn't that hungry). I've had a kind of keto cheesecake using cream cheese, Greek yog and fresh strawberries. Was lovely.
Just had tea. Piri piri chicken and cabbage. I enjoyed it.
I'm always OK food wise. I just feel like a drink. Good job I don't keep it in.
How are you doing?
When will you weigh yourself?

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 19:23

Well, I swerved the drink craving but just had a chicken roll. I had headache!
I'll keep trying.
It could have been worse.

Sunseed · 15/01/2024 10:35

14st 4.5lb this morning. Had wine last night so not feeling pleased with self. Anyway, that's done and resolved to try harder this week.

I made parmesan crisps yesterday.... they were very filling. DCs found them too so only 1 left now!!

Cheese and avocado salad for lunch; low carb lasagne I think for tonight.

@Amdone123 Did you drink enough water yesterday? Might have caused headache?

Tilllly · 15/01/2024 11:52

I think it's harder when it's cold, but I made a big batch of carrot and coriander soup so I'm hoping that will stave off the carb cravings at lunchtime

Tilllly · 15/01/2024 15:22

Hi, I am sure that I read a recipe once about making crustless quiche in the air fryer

Obviously I can't find it, but I remember thinking it looked quick and easy and filling. Anybody got any ideas?

Moonshine5 · 15/01/2024 15:27

Well done you 👏

Amdone123 · 19/01/2024 19:57

Hi, all, sorry for the radio silence. Had a few personal things to sort.
Well, I've been partially low carb, lost 2lb so pleased with that.
@Sunseed thank you, yes, I was a lack of water. I've upped my fluids this week and ni headache!
13st 1 - yay

Amdone123 · 22/01/2024 09:59

Morning folks, how are we all doing @Moonshine5 @Sunseed @Tilllly
I appear to be losing weight but it's very veryyyy slow. I'm not sure why this is a bad thing, though. I just seem to be at a plateau.
I might try counting calories.
It's not my age / menopause ( 56 - I don't think so anyway). My alcohol intake is under control and I exercise a lot.
I just want 7lbs off !!!
I'll just keep plodding on 💪

Moonshine5 · 22/01/2024 10:05

Terribly.
I've signed up to Zoe because I need some dietary structure and support.

Thank you for following up, I appreciate you.
