6 weeks until Christmas Day - who wants to lose half a stone?

Hollyhead · 13/11/2023 09:48

I have been trying to lose the same half a stone all year, I’m sick to death of it, and if I’m honest I haven’t really tried. I’m not even that bothered about the weight number being exactly half a stone, it’s 2 inches I want to loose from bum/hips/stomach.

I know what I want to do - steps, home weight workouts, some 16:8 fasting and following a set regime of the following diet choices
Breakfast - eggs &a vegetable OR yoghurt with seeds/fruit OR porridge

Lunch - salad OR homemade soup OR plant based tray bake type thing (such as lentils and roasted veg

Dinner - small version of what we’re having with veg replacing carbs where possible - so for instance instead of rice with a stir fry do an extra portion of steamed broccoli.

Anyone want to join me with any weight loss method permissible? Whether it’s vanity pounds or getting a big weight loss kickstarted let’s do this! My wardrobe is full of clothes I love that I can only just get on, I want them back 😁

I just completed a 24hr fast.
It wasn't a struggle at all and I felt really good. I think I'll carry on and do omad.

I wasn't good with food but if i think about daily calories, I think it was ok?
2 oatcakes with cheese
Homemade wrap with chickpea salad
Home made cake

I am on omad. make sure you have at least 1200 calories a day. Put some nuts or avocado in your wrap etc..boiled egg protein xx

StarShipControl · 22/11/2023 16:32

Thanks @Loubelle70 I hadn't planned this fast. I just got busy then thought I'd test myself.
I'll get organised for tomorrow.
Today I'm making chilli which I'll have tomorrow so plenty of protein in that.

StarShipControl · 22/11/2023 16:32

@Loubelle70 oh and how are you finding it? Good weight loss?

Does anyone have a soup maker? I'm thinking about asking for one for Christmas to make yummy soup which will help with all of this but not sure if it's worth it. I could just use a saucepan but that means I'd have to stand by the hob instead of leaving a soup maker to get on with it?

Yes and I love it gets a lot of use in Winter!
I have the white morphy Richards one as it has a pre clean function!

The good thing with them is no oil (if not sautéing) perfect soup is 19mins if using smooth function. Its great for quick lunch or can pop it on whilst making a cup of tea in between meetings.

So far this week I have had carrot and corriander, celeriac and apple and beetroot and horseradish with minimal effort!

RidingMyBike · 22/11/2023 20:34

Oooh that soup does sound nice and it sounds like worth having if it's something I can quickly put on to make whilst WFH and it'd be ready for lunch time.

delilabell · 22/11/2023 21:58

2.5lbs this week....on! 😫😫😫

buckeejit · 23/11/2023 08:04

Marking my place here. After a rough couple of years where I've put on 3 stone (& was already fat), I'm finally in the frame of mind to tackle it.

Good intentions are being hampered though - good diet yesterday until teatime & had shown up at the gym then was for having soup from the freezer for tea but it tasted a bit bluergh. Long story short, ended up eating a massive bag of crisps at night!

I want to start chipping at it & getting good habits in play. Will read the thread in a bit & realistically at my size should easily be able to do half a stone by Christmas so must invest in better planning

Hollyhead · 23/11/2023 08:07

Hi everyone, been a bit awol as actually socialised last night! Did involve a meal but but I chose a sensible main course, and skipped dessert and had a coffee instead, so yesterday won’t have been a deficit day but I didn’t blow all my hard work. Think the hormonal bloat is on its way out now as needed a massive wee in the night and have now woken up with my delightful ‘your period is about to start’ migraine.

Plan for today is to keep it super light - soup for lunch/snacks and then bean chilli with salad tonight.

@Toomanyemails welcome, glad we’ve inspired you to keep on the healthier choices. I always think the first step in weight loss is to get in the habit of eating at a level where you’re not actually gaining weight so you have made progress!

@piscofrisco excellent news on the jeans, hope you feel better/on the mend.

@Newnamesameoldlurker I agree on bf weight. I found when I lost mine it suddenly went at different points - about 4 months post partum I lost loads without trying, then my body cling to another half a stone then at 9 months post partum that final half stone just disappeared too. I bf for 2 years so it’s not even like giving up or anything made a difference. Keep up the good work, I’m sure it will start to melt away soon, how old is your lo?

@RidingMyBike now I want a soup maker too! Well done on the loss.

@StarShipControl I find the occasional long fast really empowering and actually a good way of kickstarting a diet as I don’t want to undo the progress made.

@delilabell oh no a gain always feels disappointing, do you know what the cause might be, it’s most likely water fluctuation - have you been exercising a lot? I find that can make me retain water a lot.

I've not weighed again since last time but I feel less bloated and clothes fit better.

Reba767 · 23/11/2023 10:36

I feel soooo much better for eating better already. I also went spinning last night loved it but it was so tough. Buzzing afterwards though! X

Brieandbeetroot · 23/11/2023 10:43

I'm a bit late to the party but can I join?

I started with a plan to lose around a stone in January. So far I've lost a third, and regained half of that 😱 it's so incredibly depressing. Despite making loads of changes the weight is stubbornly on and hard to shake. It seems I cannot relax at all until I've lost it and can the ease up occasionally when I'm maintaining.

I'm only 35 but perimeno and have a 3 year old who is still bf-ing once a night (I really want to give up but she's a terrible sleeper and at least that gets her back to sleep) not sure if either of those are hampering my progress.

If I could lose even 4 pounds by Christmas at this point, that would be fantastic.

I'm doing Jillian Michaels workouts a few times a week interspersed with running.

JanyewithaY · 23/11/2023 15:14

Hi all, hope everyone is keeping well today...

Things have gone a bit haywire over the last 2 days, birthday cake and wine have thrown me off completely...but it was worth it! 😅 I'm drawing a line under it and getting back on track.

Heading out for a walk with the kids before it gets dark and have meals planned for the rest of the day/ tomorrow 💪

StarShipControl · 23/11/2023 16:24

Another 20hr fast. I'm actually finding this fairly easy so far. Please don't let me fall of this wagon! I find it so hard toget back onto any wagon.
I ate 2 oatcakes and cheese, chilli and courgette with home made wrap, some homemade cake and a few crisps.
I think I need some fruit in there and some more veg.

Hollyhead · 24/11/2023 07:51

The moment has come where I need your help to stay on track! Weighed in this morning and have bounced back to starting weight, but hormones still playing havoc. A quick measure though looks like I’ve lost about 1cm in places around my waist and hips - which does tally with my clothes feeling very slightly more comfortable.

Plan for today is to fast until 11.

StarShipControl · 24/11/2023 08:07

@Hollyhead what are you wearing for any Christmas events? Picture yourself looking fab on that day and everyone commenting 'wow you look great!'
Does that motivate you?
It's what's keeping me going! I don't want to be looking a total frump and a few lbs loss would be amazing.

Justmeandmyself · 24/11/2023 09:06

@Hollyhead Great that your clothes feel more comfortable. Although I religiously check my weight, I’m a big fan of basing my success on how well my clothes fit and thankfully at the moment, I’m managing to get in to clothes that I was about to get rid of before I started this weight loss journey!

Was aiming to be at 9.7 today and made it down to 9.6 so was pleased with that. Got a friend coming over for takeaway later though so will have to be careful with that!!

How is everyone else today?

Hollyhead · 24/11/2023 09:30

Thanks both they’re just the reminders I needed, I really haven’t deviated down a path where I would gain weight so I just need to not let this derail me! I also have no plans this weekend so I can have a ‘good’ weekend which I find often really boosts weightloss being able to stick to it over a weekend.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 24/11/2023 10:12

The scales can fluctuate for a whole heap of reasons and its best to avoid daily weighing because of it. I do my best to stick to weekly as its really easy to feel thrown off when in reality your still doing brilliantly!

I also keep something nearby that is my aim to fit into. So I try it on every few days to see if there are changes and generally this will be a better picture of how your doing overall.

RidingMyBike · 24/11/2023 11:15

My Noom challenge today is to have an edible treat but plan it into today's calorie budget!

So I have been to a new cafe nearby before work and treated myself to a coffee and cake. Which was amazing!

I like the idea of planning in treats as it made me wait all week to go to the nice cafe and get a lovely homemade cake supporting a local business rather than just cracking open the custard creams!

This morning's weigh-in I've maintained. I don't weigh at weekends so this week's weight loss is 1kg, slightly over 2lbs.

Hollyhead · 24/11/2023 13:51

I really want to eat a load of shortbread biscuits with my cup of tea, but I am not going to. I’m not hungry. I had a nice lunch. I can stay on track.

(please excuse the ramblings of a madwoman)

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 24/11/2023 17:24

@Hollyhead , I came one here needing exactly the same encouragement!! Granted, only been at it since Monday, but made the mistake of weighing today and am a very small amount up. So depressing after a very good week!!

Came on here because I need motivation this weekend to keep at it, and not worry too much about the scales.....

StarShipControl · 24/11/2023 19:35

I relaxed my diet today. I think I hadn't been eating enough over the past few days and I started to feel a bit lethargic.
I heard it's good to mix it up from time to time so body doesn't get used to such a small amount of food.

Back to it tomorrow.

Me too, fish and chips tonight.
Can of coke. Chocolate dessert. 😲

Well done on the relaxing everyone 😁 I’m back on it today, I’m trying to do a longer fast until dinner time as I have found in the past that keeping up the routine a bit over the weekend gets better results. Doing ok so far!
