6 weeks until Christmas Day - who wants to lose half a stone?

Hollyhead · 13/11/2023 09:48

I have been trying to lose the same half a stone all year, I’m sick to death of it, and if I’m honest I haven’t really tried. I’m not even that bothered about the weight number being exactly half a stone, it’s 2 inches I want to loose from bum/hips/stomach.

I know what I want to do - steps, home weight workouts, some 16:8 fasting and following a set regime of the following diet choices
Breakfast - eggs &a vegetable OR yoghurt with seeds/fruit OR porridge

Lunch - salad OR homemade soup OR plant based tray bake type thing (such as lentils and roasted veg

Dinner - small version of what we’re having with veg replacing carbs where possible - so for instance instead of rice with a stir fry do an extra portion of steamed broccoli.

Anyone want to join me with any weight loss method permissible? Whether it’s vanity pounds or getting a big weight loss kickstarted let’s do this! My wardrobe is full of clothes I love that I can only just get on, I want them back 😁

@Aquarius1234 sounds great!

I'm one notch down on my belt. Woohoo.
This motivates to keep going now.

I've got lunch out so nothing but black coffee til then. By 12.30 I'll have done a 16hr fast. I'm skipping dinner today because we have a family breakfast planned for tomorrow.
It's the one meal that I know everyone is usually in for so I decided we'd make a weekly occasion if it and we all have to tell each other what's going on in the week, who needs lifts when and so on.
Teens!

Hope everyone has a good day.

StarShipControl · 25/11/2023 09:30

@Hollyhead this is so true! I normally undo all my hard work on the weekends. So frustrating.
Not this weekend!

Toomanyemails · 25/11/2023 10:10

@RidingMyBike well done on the planned treating! Can I ask, did your cafe give calorie counts or did you estimate? I managed to cut down drastically on mindless scoffing of chocolate/biscuits at home before and replace with properly indulging with cakes at local businesses, but unfortunately I live near a lot of lovely cafes and I wfh, so I think I now need to cut this down or plan more mindfully.

I've had a week of over 10k daily steps and not the best diet (away on a work trip) but I tried to keep an eye on quantity of food at least. Even this small achievement gives me a boost that I can treat my body better! Now I'm home and plan to introduce home workouts and eat healthier home cooked meals while keeping up the steps 🙂 will also weigh myself today, although I'll focus more on how I feel and fit into clothes rather than numbers

Scottishskifun · 25/11/2023 13:05

My fitness pal can be a good estimate of calories in things if you don't know.

I was supposed to be on fast then DS1 didn't like his chocolate brownie that we had at a cafe so that was my breakfast as it was actually gluten free oops!

Lunch was trusty soup maker mushroom soup so I know low in calories and fat as zero oil!

2 days til weigh in think I've lost a bit but definitely feels like water weight/bloat gone at the moment. Back into a pair of jeans comfortably though so holding onto progress!

Have quite a few trips out planned next coming weekends one plus side of being gluten free is that I can rarely eat anything at them so should be able to stick to my 1200 calories a day!

RidingMyBike · 25/11/2023 14:24

@Toomanyemails no, the cafe only has the calorie counts for the breakfast and lunch meals they do,
not the vast array of tempting cake! They're all slightly different sizes too so it had to be an estimate. I looked up similar things on the Noom food logger and used that to make a guess!

Next week could be harder though. I'm away with work for a few nights which means all my meals will be "out". I can do lunch relatively easily using supermarket meal deals and hotel breakfast buffet but the calorie counts in restaurant meals are so high!

JanyewithaY · 26/11/2023 08:52

Morning all,

How is everyone doing?

My determination to get back on track during the week went out the window after a couple of sleepless nights and when I weighed in this morning, I am back to my starting weight 🙄Too much caffeine and sugar, which both served their purpose to keep me going, means I'm not enjoying how I feel in my body today - especially compared to how much better I felt last week, so that's motivation in itself!

Today, it's back to tracking everything, cutting out the sugar and drinking more water.

Hope everyone's Sunday goes well

Brieandbeetroot · 26/11/2023 08:59

I had a bit of a whoosh this week after af ended and some water retention from a lot of working out, and am back properly counting calories instead of allowing extras to creep in here and there. It really adds up! I'm hopeful I can lose at least 3-4 more before Xmas day. One thing I've decided is that I really want to indulge on Christmas day and boxing day so all the festive gatherings before that I will plan in to my daily calorie allowance rather than having a blow out, then I can make the most of the main events without worrying! I find meals out specially difficult because the calorie counts are so high in stuff that cooked at home would be much less.

Managed a decent walk this morning although slow and flat (had a bit of a BP drop so needed a seat for a few mins, joys of long covid!)

Very chilly outside so curried parsnip soup for lunch today. Not sure on the scales but tried on my tight jeans this morning and could do them up......they looked terrible as didn't fit at all but it's progress I am hanging onto as I couldn't get them close last week!

I'm definitely feeling slimmer as a result even if the scales font tell me I am tomorrow!😂

Scottishskifun · 27/11/2023 08:23

Weigh in this morning went well but I know it's water weight to start with!

Starting weight 12.4 stone
Today's weigh in 11 stone 12.5 lb so a 5.5lb loss.

I've been using my fitness pal to track which have found really helpful.
Hoping I can aim for a 2lb loss each week going forward but will see!

Hollyhead · 27/11/2023 10:07

Hi everyone! Well done @Scottishskifun but yes don’t be disheartened if it slows down.

I weighed/measured in this mornjng and am 1kg down on starting weight and definitely 1cm lost off bum. Pleased with that and am on track today.

Onwards and upwards, @OldFatLadyTriesAgain you still have time to make your clothes look/feel better for Christmas, you can do it!

NorthernSpirit · 27/11/2023 14:25

Week 2 & the results aren’t good…..

After a loss last week / week 1 - it’s a 1.9lb gain for me.

I worked all day yesterday at an event. Half a pepperoni pizza for lunch and when I got home at 8pm (after a 9 hour day on my feet outdoors) I washed down a very oily Indian takeaway with a glass of Prosecco & 2 glasses of white wine.

Ahh……. This is after 6 x gym sessions last week and healthy eating all week.

Feeling bloated today and disappointed in myself but I’m drawing a line under it and am getting back on track today.

Good luck for the week ahead everyone 🤞

Right, back to extended fasts today. I've only been doing 16hr ones and I don't lose weight on them.
It's so hard to get back in the zone but I know what foods help me do well and if I don't stick to that, then it all goes to pot.
Someone kick my arse please

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 28/11/2023 08:37

@StarShipControl what kind of extended fasts are you thinking of? I don't seem to lose weight on 16hr ones, although they're good for maintaining.

Wonder if I might try OMAD is it @Loubelle70 that's doing that?

Rough couple of days here so didn't weigh yesterday. Period starting which explains urges to eat crisps and choc 😫. Today is a new day!!

Hi 👋 😊
Yes OMAD. I only eat once a day...1200 calories..no snacks. My eating window is an hour. So my fast in essence is 23 hours. Obviously health depends on it, it wouldn't be suitable for people with diabetes etc.
If i feel hungry i get a drink or do something. I do lose weight on OMAD..It slows down after about 8 week weight loss, all i do then is eat a bit more for a week then bk on OMAD

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 28/11/2023 08:55

@Loubelle70 - interesting. Do you do it for 7 days a week? How strict are you for the 23hrs? eg could I have a cappucino? probably not I imagine!!

Ballsbaill · 28/11/2023 09:10

Well done all. No weigh in but my dress feels looser this morning.

StarShipControl · 28/11/2023 09:47

@Ohyesthankyouglitter 20hrs works for me. So I tend to go 1-5. With a proper cooked lunch at 1ish (leftovers from dinner mainly) then a few snacks or bowl of soup. I stop eating at 4or 5 and that really helps to shift weight.
I like to imagine that my body is using up my fat stores throughout the night as I've hopefully digested the food I ate ages ago Smile

piscofrisco · 28/11/2023 11:38

Hi all-not been on for a while.Still poorly sick, was infection developed into labrynthitus and I'm thoroughly fed up. Cant eat as feel constantly sea sick however so all my clothes, when I can be bothered to get out of PJ's, feel
Looser. Small
Silver linings I guess.

Toomanyemails · 28/11/2023 12:59

I still feel like I'm eating too much to lose weight but I get so hungry! People on OMAD did you need to build up to it or get your bodies to adjist? Meanwhile I'm Trying to pack my meals with protein.
Today:
Skyr with blueberries, small banana, peanut butter and almonds
Lentil soup and small latte
Dinner will likely be chicken and salad, and I'm hoping to avoid any other snacks or drinks other than water/herbal tea, because when I write it down this sounds like plenty of food for a petite person trying to lose weight!
I'm trying a tip my dentist recommended of finishing meals with sugar free mints (or peppermint tea) - it makes me less inclined to eat and ruin the fresh feeling, and bonus is it should help my teeth (something about neutralising acid?)
