6 weeks until Christmas Day - who wants to lose half a stone?

Hollyhead · 13/11/2023 09:48

I have been trying to lose the same half a stone all year, I’m sick to death of it, and if I’m honest I haven’t really tried. I’m not even that bothered about the weight number being exactly half a stone, it’s 2 inches I want to loose from bum/hips/stomach.

I know what I want to do - steps, home weight workouts, some 16:8 fasting and following a set regime of the following diet choices
Breakfast - eggs &a vegetable OR yoghurt with seeds/fruit OR porridge

Lunch - salad OR homemade soup OR plant based tray bake type thing (such as lentils and roasted veg

Dinner - small version of what we’re having with veg replacing carbs where possible - so for instance instead of rice with a stir fry do an extra portion of steamed broccoli.

Anyone want to join me with any weight loss method permissible? Whether it’s vanity pounds or getting a big weight loss kickstarted let’s do this! My wardrobe is full of clothes I love that I can only just get on, I want them back 😁

You're all inspiring me to take a long walk today! Weightloss is so hard, well done all of you!

withoutjeans · 20/11/2023 15:03

Also- in case anyone's with me, I'm not actually weighing in.

The scales and numbers are not good for my brain so it has to be about feel / health for me and about sticking to the healthy choices, more or less.

So I'm aiming for feeling brighter and lighter, and less bloated ❤️🤞

piscofrisco · 20/11/2023 15:05

I'm
Back in bed with my dumb ear infection and labrynthitus. So no exercise today. In the upside I feel so lousy I don't even want to eat!

StarShipControl · 20/11/2023 18:06

Argh I wanted to go for a walk but I was expecting a builder and the guy didn't even turn up! Grrr.
I'm starting my fast in 20 mins and will see if I can do 18 hrs.

StarShipControl · 20/11/2023 18:07

@piscofrisco oh dear. Get well soon.

RidingMyBike · 20/11/2023 20:16

Grr, one kg up this morning but I have got massive water retention which can't have helped.

I also realised it'll make a difference when I drink the big glass of water I take to bed with me. Sometimes I drink most of it before going to sleep or during the night. Then go to the loo when I get up and then weigh. This morning I drank the whole lot when I woke in the morning. The glass can contain almost 1lb of water!

I got my weekly Noom stats back and every day was in the weight loss zone. Although some days were better than others!

Hollyhead · 20/11/2023 22:03

@RidingMyBike every sympathy, I am positively blamange textured this week. Day22 tomorrow so hopefully almost there!

Oh dear, yes, that's a good way of describing it!

It does make it easier relating it to my cycle tracker though. Of course, the next thing is the feeling ravenous stage!

Loubelle70 · 20/11/2023 23:07

Im laid up with a bug atm 😒...but started omad today. Fingers crossed.

Hollyhead · 21/11/2023 08:04

Right, had a good day yesterday and weighed again this morning and am now 0.8kg down on my starting point which feels like a good result so far. I also managed 10000 steps yesterday too. Onwards and upwards! Wearing another festive jumper today 🤣

Get well soon @piscofrisco that sounds rubbish.

Very sensible approach @withoutjeans my goal is much more clothes fitting and losing a couple of inches too. I don’t really care what the number on the scale is, I just want my clothes to stop digging in !

Poor you @piscofrisco ear infections are absolutely miserable 😢 I'm getting over a cold, binged a bit last night but overall must be keeping myself in check as lost another half a pound on my weigh- in this morning. Making the mental shift from taking pleasure in food to taking pleasure in controlling myself, feeling healthy and seeing the scale drop is the hard bit for me.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 21/11/2023 12:56

@Hollyhead is it too late to join you all?!!
5 weeks til Christmas - would absolutely LOVE to lose 7lb.

I have been trying to shift this half a stone for ages, but have struggled for motivation as it's not an enormous amount.

Starting weight 11st 11.5
Target weight 11st 3

I'm generally in the habit of 16:8 and don't find it too difficult. But am going to be a bit more intentional. Plan is to have two very moderate days on Mon/Tue and then be careful the rest of the time. I'm going to temporarily stop alcohol as it definitely affects my will power, and am also going to give up crisps.

So inspirational to read the posts so far

JanyewithaY · 21/11/2023 16:06

Hi all, hope everyone's day is going well. Hope you are feeling better soon@piscofrisco

I weighed in today and am down 3lbs since last week 🙌I'm hesitantly happy because I often find I lose a bit in the first week or 2 and then everything stalls. So I like the sound of your approach too @withoutjeans - I'm going to focus less on the scales and more on how I am feeling.

My DC have been passing a dose around, so it's been up and down few days with people off school and feeling a bit miserable so have been struggling to reach my 10k steps. Last night I popped on a YT video - a low impact walking working for beginners and it was great! Think I will try another this evening

Welcome!!

Of course you can join us!

Hollyhead · 21/11/2023 19:24

Yes - very welcome @Ohyesthankyouglitter and I agree a slow and steady clothes focused approach is a good one. I am certainly going to see where I get to by christmas, and I'm determined not to be too disappointed if it's not half a stone if I can also see change in my clothes fitting etc :)

Great result @JanyewithaY - keep on keeping on, a bigger loss in the first week is normal, so don't be disappointed if it is a bit lower next week - a pound is still a pound!

How is everyone doing?
I had a very sociable weekend (for once!) which meant eating more than I usually would. Am just about back down to Friday’s weight today after doing a ton of steps in the last few days and juicing for one meal per day. Let’s see what the scales throw at me tomorrow!

Hollyhead · 21/11/2023 22:20

Sounds like you didn’t go too mad @Justmeandmyself well done! And a sociable weekend sounds nice!

RidingMyBike · 22/11/2023 08:01

Whoop another kg down plus the water retention kg vanished a day later(!) so that's 2kg down in total since I started doing this. So a bit more than 4lb?

Starting to feel like I might actually manage this although I always seem to plateau at 70kg. The aim is 65kg and I'm now at 72 down from 74kg.

Toomanyemails · 22/11/2023 09:28

Hello, I'd like to belatedly join please! I've had a difficult mental health year and now I'm finally on the mend with that (yay) I see the toll its taken on my physical health. I've spent several months feeling too miserable to bother preparing food so I've been skipping meals, bingeing on crap, not exercising etc😔
This week I am away for work which always makes it hard to eat sensibly! I've managed 10k steps 4 days in a row and although having nearly every meal out isn't helpful, I'm trying to at least control quantity and go for healthier choices. Just had an omelette for breakfast which I hope will mean I don't need any/much lunch.
When im home I will try to do daily exercise, keep up the steps and create a meal plan.
Well done on the progress so far everyone!!

piscofrisco · 22/11/2023 09:35

Morning all. I'm feeling a tiny bit better today I think. So I've got up and put my jeans on and i can do them up without bother for the first time in ages. I would sooner not be poorly but at least it's helped with the reducing so there is an upside!
Hope everyone else is doing well this week. If I feel up to it a bit later I might start putting a few Christmas decs up. I know it's early but it will cheer me up a bit. Usually I would do that whilst swigging white wine and eating quality street but this year it will be fizzy water and maybe a few satsumas.

piscofrisco · 22/11/2023 09:35

@Toomanyemails the body keeps score when you aren't well up top I find. Be kind to yourself. Well done on the steps!

Newnamesameoldlurker · 22/11/2023 09:49

Gah, I'm not doing as well as most of you. Was proud of myself for eating pretty well yesterday but the weigh- in this morning showed I'd regained half a pound :(
My body is really clinging to these last ten lbs. Breastfeeding hunger is intense and I've been too worried about risking my supply to do intermittent fasting which has always worked well for me in the past. But at least this thread is prompting me to try to limit my calories and weigh in every day, so I might manage half of the goal of 7lbs off by Xmas!

PictureFrameWindow · 22/11/2023 09:50

Fell off the wagon and ate a load of cakes at a work thing. I'm still waaaay down on the amount of sugar I'd normally have eaten. Though no weight loss yet, it's good to have made healthier choices overall.

RidingMyBike · 22/11/2023 12:54

Does anyone have a soup maker? I'm thinking about asking for one for Christmas to make yummy soup which will help with all of this but not sure if it's worth it. I could just use a saucepan but that means I'd have to stand by the hob instead of leaving a soup maker to get on with it?
