Wegovy Journey

StrangerBings · 09/10/2023 11:21

Hi all,

I took my first Wegovy injection (0.25) a week ago and my 2nd today.

What I noticed was, that after about 5 days of my appetite being completely suppressed, I then started to feel hungry at the weekend.

Does anyone know if its OK to take the next injection at 5 days rather than 7 so I don't undo the good work? It's not that I completely pigged out at the weekend but last week I had to actually make myself eat. I didn't think of food for the first time in years. Apart from a slight nauseous feeling for about 15 minutes after the injection I had no other side effects. The lack of appetite has helped massively with the weight loss. I already exercise daily but the menopause and changes in my hormones has had such an impact on my weight, its so annoying!

Just wondered what others thought.

Hi, I'm not an expert but I think you may need to titrate up to 0.5 rather than increase the frequency of the injections. It's unusual for semaglutide to suppress your appetite completely at such low dosage so the fact it didn't last the whole week is completely normal.

Bellabelloo · 09/10/2023 23:16

I start this weekend, so am no expert, but if I were in your position I would keep to the schedule. This is an introductory dose to get your body used to it and as you up the dosage you should lose more weight. I wouldn't push it too much at the start. It's great that you are tolerating it, so just embrace it, keep busy this weekend, and see how you feel after the next dose.

I was on ozempic for 6 months and am starting wegovy this week.
everybody on the ozempic threads found that the 0.25 dose wore off after a few days. It's the starting dose, it's bound to. If you take the next one early you'll run out before the next one comes and be in a worse position. It's better to try to ride it out and stick to your schedule.
One thing though is that the 0.25mg ozempic pens all had an extra bit in them so you could give 0.5mg for the 4th week. No idea if the wegovy pens do too.

Bivarb · 10/10/2023 08:38

Apparently this is normal

@Bivarb That's helpful!

Thank you all. I'll stick with the programme. Interestingly my appetite hasn't gone in the same way it did with the first injection. I'm just trying to stick with eating less. The not wanting food really helped last week so I'm sad it's gone already.

Don't worry! It will come back. The first 8 weeks are frustrating if I'm honest as the effects only last 2/3 days after each injection. This is part of the process though and you'll find it comes and goes constantly throughout your treatment even over months. Just try not to get disheartened on days you feel hungry and trust that your appetite will reduce again.

Hi, just wanted to ask, as I did order online but have just seen what the pen looks like and you need to change needles yourself. Is this flexi pen ok? is it a large needle? is it easy to use? sorry just hate needles. I thought it was the other pen where you don't see it and you just click the button lol.

It's a tiny needle. It comes as a little cap that you pop onto the pen. I do my next one of Sunday and can take a picture. But maybe someone else can share before then.

Peridot1 · 20/10/2023 15:58

@StrangerBings and @Wowzerdowzer its really not recommended to up dosages or increase frequency of the injectons. The medication has only been tested and approved with the recommended dosing schedule. The medication has what is called a half life of 7 days. The effects do lessen after a few days. But on day 7 you still have half of the injected dose in your system. Then you inject again and after 7 days you have half again in your system and it’s designed to very gradually increase the medication in your system.

if you are hungry eat. But make sure you are eating lots of protein and fibre and drinking lots of water.

CheeseChamp · 03/12/2023 07:57

Curious to hear how you are doing! I started on Monday and similar. Also my period is delayed whoch sounds common.

StrangerBings · 03/12/2023 13:07

Hi, my results have been OK. I've lost about 1.5 stone since I started. I did have a 2 week break whilst I was on holiday. I'm on 0.5 now as I found my appetite returned more quickly in the last few 0.25 injections. I have only one side effect and that is severe constipation. As I already suffer with that, its something I can deal with. I'm having to take more laxatives than normal and I have been adjusting my diet to eat more fibre and drinking more water. My appetite starts to return about 5 days in but I definitely can't stomach as much food though. I'm going to stick with 0.5 until I get to my goal, another 1.5 stone. How are you feeling @CheeseChamp ?

CheeseChamp · 03/12/2023 14:19

So far fine, no side effects. Loose bowel but I get that anyway fairly regularly. Dreading constipation because I suffered very badly with piles so need to make sure I don't get lazy with drinking water and fibre intake.
The lack of period is annoying, not sure how to deal with that, don't want to spend every day expecting it.
Appetite disappeared first few days but is somewhat back, in that I have opened the fridge to look but come away empty handed! I ate a meal out and felt so, so full, u can normally put away a lot of food so there is a definite difference. My bmi is 42 and I am neat 20 stone. Didn't actually weigh before I started, I will do tomorrow.

Thar's incredible!! Well done!

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/12/2023 22:16

I have just ordered my first two month’s worth of Wegovy, really hoping it will help me! I have been a yo-yo dieter for 20 years, 10st at my lowest, 17st at my highest. I’m currently 16st and the heaviest I have been in 16 years. I’ve successfully lost weight with SW before but need a kick start. Hoping this is it!

justsaxy · 04/12/2023 14:43

Am about to go and try to find it

KatOH · 06/12/2023 18:49

Hi,

Can those who have started already tell me how they've found it? What has progress been like?

Just ordered today and looking forward to getting started. Need to lose weight for IVF next year and just unsure how long it could realistically take. Hoping for good results from it!

Blink1982 · 09/01/2024 18:28

Here for the wegovy gang. I used saxenda in the past but had to stop when I couldn't afford it anymore. I prefer the sound of wegovy because it's just once a week.

Did you just skip two weeks for your holiday? I'm undecided on what's best for my week away as I'm due to move up to 1mg then

Hey
Has anyone had any allergic skin reactions to the Wegovy pens ?I am only in Month 2 and totally sticking to titrating regime. It could totally be something else but my arms and legs have broken out in horrendous hives. I feel badly fluey. I had no side effects to the Wevovy jags at all the first month, except bad heart burn. Also bad diahorrea because I drank wine one night at Xmas. My reg GP thinks its Lyme Disease I have but I have no recolldction of tickbite. Altho two of the main hive sites have the lyme disease tell tale bulls eye target. My reg GP doesnt know I take Wegovy. Bit daft I know but I have the fat shame thing !

stealtheatingtunnocks · 18/01/2024 00:44

Where are you all getting it from? Ordering online? I’ve heard there are shortages - anyone had problems getting it?

im tempted. Ita expensive but I have high BP and joint pain and nothing else has worked in 30 years of fatness.

Williamson78 · 18/01/2024 14:09

On day 4 of week one. I’m amazed how much it has suppressed my desire to eat since the day I took my first dose. I am noticing now I am feeling gradually hungrier. I’ll stick with the programme though and hope that over time it keeps working.

Jòffl58 · 18/01/2024 14:34

Hiya
I go to a private GP. I use my Adult Disability Payment to pay for it. Yes much more expensive than weight watchers or slimming world.

I wouldnt buy online. The GP charge £299 for months supply. I worked out how much I spent on food shopping, take away coffees and take aways . It was horrendous. Bank statments embarassing.
Then I was lucky enough to qualify for ADP End of November.
Makes sense to use this health money to keep me free from Diabetes Type 2 and other ailments which are caused by obesity. I lost 4kg within month one. I probably would have lost much more but it was Xmas and altho I wanted way smaller portions i was eating mince pies and unheslthy things. Judt not in any quantity.
It is geniunely the first time I have ever noticed an on / off button re: appetite and fullness. I no longer impulsively eat it is so weird. My brain now kinda asks the question Are you actually hungry? It is so weird.
