Anyone starting Zoe in November?

Not just about weight loss but thought this might be the best place to post the thread. I've just signed up and should be starting in November, wondering if anyone else is and wants to share experiences?

Don't moisturise before putting it on, though. I did and I had to tape it on for the first day as it wouldn't attach.

alloutofcareunits · 18/11/2023 10:17

@thinkofablinkingnamewoman enjoy your night out. I was wondering what time to add the sensor, the app appears to say do it anytime today. I'm at the cinema this afternoon so might attach it when I get home (before my Indian takeaway 😂)

Just eaten the breakfast cookies, I thought they were okay, a very dense sweet white chocolate chip cookie, not too bad at all

Just put the sensor on ready for tomorrow. All very straightforward so far. Am working from home so I can do the poop test and the blood test in comfort and privacy!

alloutofcareunits · 19/11/2023 22:24

@thinkofablinkingnamewoman I've done all my tests today and posted them, just started logging food. Good luck for tomorrow

Thanks. Have just had the breakfast cookies - I'll never want another cookie 😞 Very glad I'm at home as I really had to choke them down while making bleeurch noises.

Memeapple · 20/11/2023 12:18

Lunch cookies are even worse! They are more sugary. Good luck. I felt dirty after cookie day. I've just completed the high carb challenge. Only white rice for breakfast. It's become a real turn off to see my glucose levels rising. This experiment will have a lasting impact on my food choices.

hippospot · 20/11/2023 15:23

I did the porridge challenge and it was horrific. I can't face doing another challenge. Today I've set myself the challenge of keeping my glucose spikes down by eating carbs with fat/protein/fibre, and exercising afterwards. Much more stable line and I feel so much better. To be honest this is mostly how I eat anyway but doing Zoe endorses it even more.

I also felt dreadful on cookie day @Memeapple

Memeapple · 20/11/2023 15:31

Yes, I too just have perpetually high levels unless I exercise. Though I "know" how to eat and behave, the cold hard reality of looking at constantly non optimal glucose levels really grosses me out.

2bluecookies · 20/11/2023 18:28

hello! joining you all on this thread, I ate the cookies on Saturday (felt awful afterwards) and now being continually horrified by my glucose readings after eating what I thought was a relatively healthy meal...

Lunch today (protein oats, chia, flaxseeds, kefir and frozen berries) and the level shot up to 11.7....

I've long suspected I am insulin resistant (PCOS), and probably have 2 stone to lose to get to a healthy BMI. Hoping this will motivate me!

EdgarsTale · 20/11/2023 20:36

I’ve done all my testing today & sent them off. I was gagging on the cookies. My glucose levels so far have been within normal range, apart from the middle of last night when they went really low (3.1) which is a bit concerning.

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 20/11/2023 21:33

Managed to do all my testing so pretty pleased with that. I clearly took all the instructions about the blood test far too seriously as it was like the Texas chainsaw massacre when I did it.

Cookies were disgusting but didn't seem to have a massive impact on my glucose levels. Had a home made pizza and small glass of wine for dinner which just about stayed in range.

Looking forward to normal food tomorrow but am then at Nandos on Wednesday which should be interesting!

Hello please may I join? Feeling a bit irritated as my kit arrived last week but I got in a muddle with all the logins and then couldn’t get the CGM to read even though my phone would “ping” when I held it near the monitor. Anyway Zoe chat has been helpful and they are sending me another monitor and have reset my app to “zero” (thankfully I hadn’t done anything except for the questionnaires).

can I double check - once you have entered the login details that zoe gives you into the Libre app, you don’t need to set up a libre account? Do the glucose readings go anywhere? So confused 🥹

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 21/11/2023 07:07

@Vanquishedagain hello and welcome! We're at slightly different stages of Zoe and I've found hearing people's experiences really helpful.

I can answer some of your question - you only use the log in and password given to you by Zoe to set up your CGM account. It all works.

I assume that the Zoe team then log in with the same details to see your ongoing glucose scores. They do say that at some points the two apps are due to be integrated which I guess will mean that you won't need two logins.

Vanquishedagain · 21/11/2023 08:01

Thank you! Just received dpd text and new CGM is on its way, fingers crossed!

alloutofcareunits · 21/11/2023 20:26

Has anyone had any issues with the cover for the monitor coming off? Mine started peeling off this morning, I've stuck down the edge with Elastoplast but it's only been on 3 days! By the end of the week it'll be a patchwork of sticking plasters holding it on until I use the second cover for next week!

Foib · 22/11/2023 08:13

My 2 weeks with the monitor finished yesterday, after days of worrying it would drop off i had to get dh to help unstick it from my arm. Just got to wait for the results now

Memeapple · 22/11/2023 11:42

@alloutofcareunits yes mine fell off yesterday after 5 days. I'm on the second one now. When do the results of the initial challenges come through?

alloutofcareunits · 22/11/2023 11:47

@Memeapple I can see me having to replace my makeshift sticking plaster attempts daily, you can buy replacement covers on Amazon but they didn't get very good reviews. I haven been swimming or in the bath and I've tried to keep it out of the water when showering so it's clearly not very sticky! I'm enjoying the scanning and have to stop myself scanning every 10 min 😂

PoppyChia · 22/11/2023 12:13

My first monitor failed (never registered) so that had to send a new one. I didn't bother putting the ZOE sticker on the second one and it was fine for the full two weeks @alloutofcareunits even with showering etc. so I wouldn't worry about the sticker coming off.

alloutofcareunits · 22/11/2023 20:40

@PoppyChia, that's reassuring, thank you

How are we all doing? I've done my three days of logging and did day one of my blood sugar challenge this morning. Let's just say I regretted only having couscous in the house!

It caused a pretty big spike but it made my omelette lunch look excellent in comparison even though I had a slice of cake afterwards! At least tomorrow I get to have avocado for breakfast 😁

Memeapple · 24/11/2023 20:01

I'm spiking high (9.8 after lunch, which started with two apples) struggling to remain under 6. I think I have prediabetes which, at 60kg and 174cm is a bit of a shocker but I had a Dexa scan recently which showed I had absurdly low muscle mass ie. Skinny fat! Need to try carb + exercise tmw but frankly, after seeing so many uncomfortably high spikes I'm not sure I can face it!

hippospot · 25/11/2023 13:41

@Memeapple I also had a big spike from an apple - I think fruit after other food is better than on an empty stomach or at the start of a meal.

I read the Glucose Revolution book recently - that was an eye-opener in terms of managing glucose spikes. I'd been doing a few of the things she recommends for a few years already ie only eat sweet things at the end of a meal, eat fruit with yoghurt or nuts...

My CGM is finished now. I'm really interested to know if my "spikes" are normal or not. I've always felt I'm super-sensitive to glucose. I guess I'll have results from blood and microbiome in a week or two? I'm really interested to know more.

Vanquishedagain · 25/11/2023 21:36

So after my first failed attempt I received a new CGM and it’s gone on tonight (and appears to be working). Am feeling a bit anxious about the cookies/muffins (which are they??) tomorrow as I usually start the day with a strong cup of tea and then a coffee until I eat at about 11 (almost always savoury). But I’ll start early and try and force myself to drink some black tea instead
any tips for the cookies/muffins? Eat them as fast as possible with my eyes closed?
