2 Stones off by Christmas- a thread for those with quite a lot to lose.

RedDoughnut · 17/09/2023 08:51

2 stones is a drop in the ocean but there are 14 weeks to Christmas and so at 2lbs a week a 2 stone loss is achievable. Maybe a little bit more if you have lots to lose like me. ( 5 stones).

I'm going to weigh in on Monday and possibly check my measurements if I can find a tape measure!

I'd welcome some company form anyone who wants to have some accountability and a place to keep track of their weekly / daily food intake or losses.

I'm now off to have a small and healthy breakfast.

thanks @RedDoughnut and for having me here 😙
I know I don't see myself as others do. I loathe my size & I'm obsessed with weight/body size to the point it's often all I think about.

ILikeItHere · 30/10/2023 10:21

Glad to see so many people reporting back. Congrats to those who lost some!
I weighed myself this morning and turns out I lost another pound, a bit over. That means I am 1 lb away of the top range of healthy BMI. I am so chuffed about it!
We have 8 weeks till Christmas, we can still do it I think. Stick with it!

Boyboyboy10 · 30/10/2023 10:50

8 weeks today everyone. Remain strong & focused.
I am hoping for a a stone off.

beeswaxinc · 30/10/2023 13:16

Hey everyone, am reading all the updates which are really helping me stay focused as you say @Boyboyboy10

I've had a few difficult days, haven't quite slipped up as in gone over my calories deficit but am feeling quite hungry tbh.

I managed to salvage the day I ate the chocolate hazelnut spread by having a really light dinner, and cooked a huge roast on Sunday for extended family but managed to stick to mainly cabbage and meat so again an improvement in self regulation.

Sunday is my weigh in day but annoyingly, I was not able to weigh myself before my first meal and about 1.5 litres of water, however to my surprise and despite eating and drinking first, the scale is showing 19st 6lbs.

I'm determined to be better this week, I'm slipping - not going over my deficit limit but I'm eating more processed foods than I have been in the last couple of weeks and it is making a difference. First meal of the day today was a low carb high protein wrap with baked chicken and lots of veg. I've had to have a chocolate protein shake with a little honey though as I am desperately craving something sweet.

Next goal - cut out some of the sweeteners I have been using as a crutch to replace sugar and up my water intake. I feel like I am still on track to lose 2 stone before Christmas day!

HW: 21st 10lbs
SW: 20st 7lbs
CW: 19st 6lbs
GW for challenge: 18st 7lbs

suneetime · 30/10/2023 13:33

Hi all, checking in despite not having lost this week.

SW: 14st 2
CW: 13st 10
GW for Christmas: 12st 13

Would be chuffed to see a 12 on the scales. November is a new month and after a blip I’m up for the challenge.

Stormyseas82 · 30/10/2023 17:22

Hiya. Can I join?
I'm only 3 days in so aiming for a stone before Xmas if possible.
Anyway I've been doing well, I have so much more energy already. However the bloody chocolate spread I just lost willpower and spooned out a teaspoon and ate it!! 😋 🙄

Stormyseas82 · 30/10/2023 17:25

Ps. I'm not going to weight I'm going to hopefully know by my clothes. Back in my 20s I had an eating disorder. I'm now overweight but going to try and be sensible and I am prone to being obsessive so best if I don't weigh. There's a dress I'd like to wear to a Xmas party on the 16th Dec so thats my aim.
Sending love and you can all do it I know you can!!

WinterStar1 · 30/10/2023 19:25

Hi everyone, just checking in. Well done everyone for sticking with it, even if things have been difficult or a bit of a struggle.

I lost another 1kg so still going in the right direction. Trying to stick in just now as I realise in a few weeks there will be loads of temptation ... fingers crossed still for the 2 stone before Christmas. Good luck everyone.

Current loss - 1 kg
Total loss - 7.8 kg
Target loss - 12.7 kg

jeomeollibyeoldul · 30/10/2023 19:49

hi everyone, welcome newcomers... sorry to those who are struggling. i know this is a '2 stone by christmas' challenge but i must advocate for a moment for the tortoise's approach...slow and steady will win the weight loss race, not a crash and yoyo.

i think im ending today at around 2k calories which is a little over what i usually go for but im alright with it. just felt hungry so ate extra at dinner...didn't scoff on junk or anything like that. tomorrow ill be in the office and i find it quite easy to choose healthy options in the canteen, will stop for some shopping after as well and hopefully make something home made for dinner (if not, i have portion controlled ready meals in the fridge)

Completely agree with this! If we want to maintain then we have to find a way of eating less than we currently are for ever more.

My deficit target is 2,000 a day as I started this challenge over 20 stone 😫

I could definitely do what I did previously and eat 1200 a day, become desperately hungry and binge but I would rather see 1 - 2 lbs a week steadily ticking by.

What I personally love about this challenge is the autumn start date and Christmas deadline. Being 100% honest, I would often forgo dieting for the entire season because I loved the Autumny and Christmassy food so much 😳

I feel so much better actually working toward my goals at this time of year and surprisingly don't feel like I'm missing out so much. If I can go into the new year already lighter and feeling healthier than that will be such a huge achievement!

Stormyseas82 · 31/10/2023 07:56

I have so much more energy when I eat better and less and I always seem to forget this! Only 3 days in and feel much brighter already and feel less tired. Anyone else?
For breakfast I'm having scrambled eggs on one small bit of brown bread with just marmite, no butter and that seems to fill me up until lunch. I'm on my feet at work all day.

ILikeItHere · 31/10/2023 10:16

I have more energy as well, it must be reduced carbs doing the trick. Trying to stick with foods not spiking insulin level too much. Helps with hunger tremendously, I normally snack a lot but not on this diet.
No change on scales today. I had a slice of cake yesterday again 😃. I forego my chocolate though to balance this out.
I think it is my day 12 since I started, keep going everyone!

shearwater · 31/10/2023 13:39

Stayed the same for the last two weeks but have eaten over my calories due to weekends away and a wedding.

Definitely doing 5:2 ish/variable calories (which I didn't do so much in the last couple of weeks) works as it leaves me more calories for weekends, high days and holidays and makes it easier to stick to a weekly calorie limit. I think my calorie limit of about 12,000 a week is still about right for losing 1lb a week.

Goneback2school · 31/10/2023 14:24

What I'm a bit bemused by is if I do a significant calorie deficit for 5 out of 7 days- under 1400 calories a day but relax on the other 2 days I will end up gaining 1lb plus. Now even on the relax days I will still calorie count 2 meals but might add a dessert or have 2 slices pizza for dinner. Average over the week will still be a deficit so how on earth do I gain weight!

Another measley .5lb loss this week. Was desperately hoping for 14 something on the scales today. I need to try and up my water intake and see if that helps make a difference. I've been telling myself that any weight off is positive, but it feels like a slog this week!

Total loss so far 1st 1lb
CW 15st 1lb

RedDoughnut · 01/11/2023 08:11

I'm trying something new today

Breakfast!
I'm going to try not to snack or graze. I work at home so it's easy just to eat and while I've been making 'better' choices I think it's mounting up.

I'm not usually a fan of breakfast unless I'm on holiday but I thought I'd try breakfast at 7, lunch at 12.30 and see how I manage.

I've essentially plateaued for 2 weeks. Again.

You've got this @RedDoughnut

Boyboyboy10 · 01/11/2023 08:52

I'm also on a plateau it seems. I only. need 1.8lb to see 11 stones on the scale. Desperately trying to get there

jeomeollibyeoldul · 01/11/2023 13:36

hi everyone... hope youre all doing well.

im not feeling too great today! dont know what it is. i dont feel like cooking or making healthy food, but im going to do it anyway. hopefully.
i still have quite a ways to go so i cant afford to take my eye off the ball..

niairin · 01/11/2023 14:05

Hello everyone, late to this journey but hopefully it's a good place to start. I'm about 10 stone off being at a healthy weight, although I'm 7 stone from where I last felt fit and strong so that's my general goal. Because I've so much to lose, I feel I can lose 3lbs a week healthily for a few weeks.

My biggest obstacle is emotional binge eating so I'm trying to take the advice for severe binge eaters and think about positive habits rather than restrictions which have never worked for me. I've tried to pick out the healthy habits that have helped me lose weight in the past, and I'm going to track these each day, rather than calories (that said, I know enough about calories that I'll be mindful of these).

(1) Replace coffee with green tea, twice a day
(2) Drink 2-3 litres of water each day.
(3) Eat a healthy, moderately-portioned breakfast (porridge or eggs).

(4) Eat a big salad with plenty protein and 1 slice brown bread for lunch.
(5) Family dinner, extra veg, moderate carbs.
(6) Eat healthy snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon before I get hungry, and an evening snack if I need it.
(7) Eat all my food from a plate, at the table.

I want to crack this once and for all, and the main thing I'm trying to do differently is to focus on how emotional regulation helps me to eat healthily - so using exercise, breathing, meditation, chats with pals, to destress when I feel tense and emotional. For me, healthy eating is easy, but not binging is not so easy.

Hope that helps someone! I'm going to try and post my weight once a week here, to have some accountability. I'll post a proper starting weight tomorrow.

niairin · 01/11/2023 14:07

Hi there! Been there so many times. My advice would be: plan a nice treat which will actually make you feel good, maybe including a bit of comfort food. Make sure it's something that will lift you, rather than lead to guilt. I love some mash and beans for dinner, and maybe a slice of cake. Something really nice, but not so much that you'll undo all your hard work. Indulge yourself for this evening, and then get back to it tomorrow.

RedDoughnut · 01/11/2023 20:53

@jeomeollibyeoldul How did your day go? Did you manage to keep your good intentions?

RedDoughnut · 01/11/2023 20:55

@niairin Welcome! I was over 18 stones in the summer. If I can lose weight that I'd imagine most people can.
You can easily lose over a stone by Christmas!

Stuck to all my good habits yesterday. Out working today and I've pre packed my snacks. Feeling determined.
