2 Stones off by Christmas- a thread for those with quite a lot to lose.

RedDoughnut · 17/09/2023 08:51

2 stones is a drop in the ocean but there are 14 weeks to Christmas and so at 2lbs a week a 2 stone loss is achievable. Maybe a little bit more if you have lots to lose like me. ( 5 stones).

I'm going to weigh in on Monday and possibly check my measurements if I can find a tape measure!

I'd welcome some company form anyone who wants to have some accountability and a place to keep track of their weekly / daily food intake or losses.

I'm now off to have a small and healthy breakfast.

Weighed myself today and I've lost 1kg. I'm happy with that as I had started watching what I was eating and recording everything on MFP since coming back from my holidays on 21/08. This 1kg means that I have lost 8kg overall since then.

Tracking totals for my 2 stone for Christmas goal.

Today's Loss - 1kg
Total Loss - 1kg

shearwater · 26/09/2023 09:56

I've lost 11lbs now in three weeks - first week was a bit mad with post-holiday loss, so it was 8lbs, 2lbs, 1lb.

13st 6lbs to 12st 9lbs. BMI now 27.8 from 29.5. Next goal is another 3lbs off by 10th October to bring it to a stone off. 1st 9lbs to go, 11st goal, BMI 24.

Isthiscorrect · 26/09/2023 10:01

Gosh well done everyone. I'm absolutely agog with all your losses.
I'm the same after a week. Calorie counting and weighing, 16:8. I absolutely have no idea how you all do it. My strategy has been slow and steady. 5.5kgs since end of May. And I've got a lot to lose. I've cut out drinking most of the time. No drinking in the house and always wine with soda. No crisps chocolate nuts. No idea what's going on. But I will keep at it.

jeomeollibyeoldul · 26/09/2023 10:05

good morning everyone! i was distracted last night and didnt eat much, which i suppose is good for the weight loss but probably not very good for my body and im very hungry this morning. going to start off with porridge and might have to take a walk down to the shops later as there isnt much in the house.

congratulations to those who have lost on weigh in day! we're almost at the end of September already and just at 3 months until Christmas, it feels quite soon now, but still plenty of time to shed some pounds.

shearwater · 26/09/2023 10:06

Measurements this morning - 39" bust, 34" under bust, 12" bicep, 23.5" thigh, hips 40", waist 32".

Two inches off waist, bust, under bust, hips, 1.5" off thighs, 1" off upper arm.

The one that pleases me most is waist as my height to waist ratio is now "healthy" already.

jeomeollibyeoldul · 26/09/2023 10:14

@shearwater that's brilliant! 😊

I tried and failed and am now trying again. Posting here to keep myself accountable.

Are most people calorie counting? How many daily calories?

I am terrible for not eating properly all day and then eating high calorie food every evening.

I signed up to Nutracheck again, it really is the best app for me and I also like using the web version.

I'm doing 5:2 and 16:8, it gives me 2,184 calories for non-fast days which I don't usually actually get close to except on a Friday. Fast days Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've eased myself into them for the first three weeks and just made them lower calorie days rather than strict 800 cals. My daily calorie intake has been 1600 on average.

I do 40 minutes of cardio at the gym on a Monday lunch (yesterday a two mile, 20 minute run, 2000m 10 minute row and 10 minutes cross trainer) , 5-10 minutes stretching. Also do an hour's mellow flow yoga class Monday evening. Wednesday I do 20 minutes cardio 40 minutes weights and 10 minutes yoga/callisthenics stretching. Saturday same as Wednesday. Other than that I just try and get as many steps in as I can and do a longer dog walk on a Sunday for 2-3 hours. I do sit down for 7 hours a day in my job though but still managed 13k steps a day average last week.

I have a take away on a Friday and have some chocolate and crisps over the weekend too. Alcohol units I've kept down to no more than 8 units a week.

Bananas1350 · 26/09/2023 11:20

I calorie count everything I never intend to stop. I tried it the other day as a test. I wanted 200 g of new potatoes which I have most days. I over estimated by half of what I should have had. This is the problem. It’s hard to judge how much is. And I am certainly never being this size again. So I will never stop calorie counting or I’m going to end up back in this position again as u just don’t realise how many calories are in things and much is the right amount.

i am so done with yo yo dieting.

shearwater · 26/09/2023 11:43

Yeah I did that with mashed potato at the weekend - my serving size was 170g not 120g as suggested on the app. Nothing wrong with having 170g, which I did, but I counted it properly.

You can then estimate by eye or using particular serving spoons - I now know that a heaped serving scoop is my portion. I have measuring spoons for things like mayonnaise.

Isthiscorrect · 26/09/2023 11:48

I calorie count everything. And it is tiresome when you cook from scratch and then weigh the cooked portion. But it's ok. I'm retired and I've got all the time in the world.
When cooking from scratch I prep all my ingredient's first, note all the calorie counts on my recipe page (for next time) and then portion it out for cooking and note the dish/ ramekin whatever I use. So I keep it exactly the same as my updated recipe. And then I check the portion size again when I make it a few times later just to make sure I'm on track. Because I'm cooking for family and myself it's not possible to just eat chicken, fish and veg all the time.

Hundredthmillionthdiet · 26/09/2023 14:36

I think my Sunday weigh In was wrong as when I weighed myself yesterday I was 15st 4lb and today I am 15st 3.4lb 😭

Goneback2school · 26/09/2023 16:38

Last time I weighed in last week I was 92kg which was up .4kg from the previous one but today I am 91.2kg. Pleased as the overall trajectory is going down and as lufe got in the way it was difficult to stay on track with calorie counting.
Overall loss is 5.4kg.

Bananas1350 · 26/09/2023 19:03

@Hundredthmillionthdiet ur weight will be different daily. So only weigh urself once a week on the same day at the same time or weigh daily and write it down to check against the next week.

I weigh daily and it fluctuates at least three pounds over the week.

PinkArt · 26/09/2023 19:44

Oh heck, I just realised I'm going to have to build Bake Off snacks calories into the plan 😂

recklessgran · 26/09/2023 22:04

Evening all, I really think I need to go shopping. I've been sticking to 16:8, lowish carb, no bread at all and around 800 calories but I'm not necessarily making the healthiest choices. I've been giving that some thought and think I need to make a proper meal and snack plan and stick to it and give more thought to the nutritional content of what I'm eating.
Today I had a small tuna mayo salad for lunch and ham and egg salad for dinner with a little coleslaw. The remainder of my calories were made up of one digestive biscuit [71 cals], an individual bag of popcorn [65 cals] and a mini bag of Maltesers [95 cals]. I think those 231 cals would be better used for something more nutritious given that they amount to more than a quarter of my daily allowance and are loaded with carbs that I should be avoiding. I've given myself a talking to and intend to sort this out as I'm here for the long haul given how much I need to lose. Not doing well on the exercise front either but kicking the can down the road until I get my diet under control. How's everyone else doing?
@RedDoughnut your comment about me being the weight now that you'd like to be at Christmas really made me laugh because my first thought when I read that was "Yeah, so would I!" [Meaning I hope I don't fall off the wagon and put it all back on or worse, yoyo all the way from here to Christmas!]

Winterscomingagain · 26/09/2023 22:13

I weighed 10st 4 lbs today, lowest I've been in many many years.
I cut out all bread and that's made a real difference.

I wish i could do this but im such a fussy eater. No idea what i would eat in place of it .

Seddon · 27/09/2023 00:08

@recklessgran I'm doing Fast 800 too and have been listening to podcasts and reading facebook groups about it, I heard a couple of things you might find interesting.

One suggested meal planning so that the vast majority of your 800 cal is protein - this comes with natural fats usually. Then add as much 'free' veg as you like. I like this 'protein first' approach as it means there's not enough room left in the day for junk!

The other thing which was more alarming is that rapid weight loss is usually muscle tissue if you don't keep up the protein and exercise, past menopause we lose muscle mass anyway and it's very difficult to gain it back. It was a podcast about Ozempic but it talked about doctors' fears of older people who've used it being slimmer but very frail in old age. Or if the diet isn't successful they've just replaced lean muscle tissue with more fat. That motivated me to train with weights even when I really don't feel like it!

recklessgran · 27/09/2023 06:27

@Seddon thanks so much for this. That's really helpful and a proper wake up call for which I'm truly grateful to you - I've got the Fast 800 book so I need to actually get it out, read it and remind myself of the rules. I will invest in a load of chicken breasts and green veg for the time being and dump the junk. Time to sort out mty exercise and start swinging the baked bean tins around too. I will keep posting my progress here - see, this is exactly why we're on this thread isn't it, to help and support each other? Thanks again @Seddon you've made my day already and it's only 6.30am!!.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2023 07:32

@recklessgran you have 800 calls a day ?

You must be starving

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 27/09/2023 08:01

Another pound off for me today - 8lbs so far - feeling good but still a long way to go

recklessgran · 27/09/2023 08:37

@Blondeshavemorefun yes, that's right I'm afraid. Any more than that and I don't lose anything at all. Even sticking to this I'll be lucky to lose a pound or two a week, if anything, after the first week's mega loss [which is mainly water.] The problems I'm up against are that, from previous cancer treatment, radiotherapy destroyed my thyroid gland so now I am medicated for an underactive thyroid. However, as everybody knows levo is not really any substitute for the real hormones so losing weight in these circumstanes is difficult to say the least. On top of that I'm on hormone blockers related to the cancer so that's a double whammy on the hormone front - or lack thereof. Add to that the fact that I'm 67 and inately lazy and am yet to find any exercise I actually enjoy. So, for now, it's walking and a few swing dance classes on youtube. I've tried swimming in the past and quite enjoyed it but then got a frozen shoulder [thanks for that too radiotherapy!!] which put a stop to that. So you see, it's a bit tricky for me altogether but either way I'm grateful for every day. So, here we are!

sleepismyhobby · 27/09/2023 08:45

I'm down to 13 stone 12 so in 4 weeks I've lost half a stone . Really happy now I'm seeing a loss

jeomeollibyeoldul · 27/09/2023 10:27

good morning everyone! ended up having a small mcdonalds yesterday which was my first treat in a while...didnt go overboard so didnt end up feeling sick or anything like that. it was tasty but it probably slowed down my weight loss a bit!

we're getting shopping delivered today so will be able to cook something nice for lunch and dinner. work is so busy at the moment when im done with it i dont feel like getting up! but i need to go out at least tomorrow to do some things at lunch time. thinking of making a roast chicken this weekend, and my favourite pork dish again.
