Ozempic and thyroxine

So I've been reading all the threads on weight loss injections and been doing research here and elsewhere.

I've been on thyroxine for ten years but have sadly in the last 4 years gained almost 4 stone Confused

It started when I started to take citalopram after some heavy very stressful life events and I just am struggling to get the weight off and I've had enough

It's making me so miserable
I'm hefty my joints and legs ache I'm hot all the time and am struggling to excercise with a very busy full time business I run and work in single handles

Is there anyone here who takes weight loss injections with thyroxine and how have you found it

I'm on Levothyroxine 200mg and Ozempic 1mg. I put on stones after my thyroid failed and no amount of Levothyroxine works for me. I went from a size 10 to a size 22 over about 25 years since thyroid stopped working in pregnancy. I started Ozempic about 4 1/2 month's ago and I've lost 3 1/2 stone. I'm going to join Slimming World to keep me on track over the Winter.

@caringcarer

Thank
You so much for that.

My thyroid malfunctioned not
Long after I had a baby but I was over active.

Trying medications to stop it doing so didn't work and it was removed so am on 150 mg a day and have been for ten years now but I'm struggling to find anywhere with any info about it working alongside the weight loss jabs.

Can I ask do you buy privately or did your gp help you to get the jab?

My GP put me on Ozempic to reduce my BMI and it helps your blood sugar stabilizer and mine was spiking sometimes.

caringcarer · 06/09/2023 23:05

I get it on NHS but I'd pay for it if I had too.

caringcarer · 06/09/2023 23:07

I used to have to wee about 3 or 4 times every night, now once at most. I sleep better. I feelsouch better. Before going on Ozempic I was tired all of the time, really exhausted now I'm not.

Noalcohol · 06/09/2023 23:08

Does anyone have hashimotos and take ozempic?

dothehokeycokey · 06/09/2023 23:18

@caringcarer

Thank
You for that

I'm so exhausted all the time and I know it's because I'm so much heavier.

I also think my thyroxines probably
Too low because I've gained so much weight so the dose needs adjusting.

Bloods due soon so will get that checked first but can I ask what your bmi was for your doctor to put you on ozempic?

Mines nearly 31 so in the obese section and im only 5ft 2 so im feeling and looking rather hefty

@Noalcohol

It's complicated but after having my thyroid out it's classed as hashi so in that case I'm guessing the other poster here is aswell due to her thyroxine dosage

Are you on meds for hashi?

I'm only 5 foot. My BMI had risen to 58. Now it's 49.

caringcarer · 07/09/2023 00:25

My weight gain went up a lot during menopause and GP did bloods and said I needed more Levothyroxine. It didn't help. GP put it up 3 times over a year but I still gained weight whilst not eating much. Then on to Ozempic.

I take levothyroxine and Citlopram and saxenda I’m fine with it but I’m having a sleeve in October got about 5 stone to lose

Does anyone have hashimotos and take ozempic?

Yes I do. Diagnosed Hashimotos 2008 and currently on 150mcg thyroxine. Started Ozempic in April, now on 1mg and have lost 4 1/2 stone. BMI from 37.7 to 28.6

witnessprotection73 · 30/10/2023 09:15

came here to look at Ozempic and Wegovy chats. I’m also on Levo & have Hashimotos. Unless I starve I just can’t lose much weight. I need to lose close to 2 stone.

Are you getting this privately & if so can you sign post me to a reputable website please? Or if via GP what did you say?

I’ve tried diets, I exercise every week, I’ve reduced
portion sizes. I can lose 5 pounds but after that I plateau & unless I drop to perhaps 800 calories I can’t lose more but on 800 I can’t keep it up for long enough.

Im fed up and bored of constantly thinking about it!

Thanks

That’s reassuring thanks I’m waiting for a specialist weight management appointment as my GP won’t prescribe ozempic.

GetBackIntoBed · 08/11/2023 18:36

@TheGoodEnoughWife could you tell me if you get this on the NHS please? I am on 125mcg Levo and have Hashimotos too. I am seeing the doc next week about my weight

Tailfeather · 08/11/2023 18:40

I'm on Wegovy and 200mg thyroxine. I only started last month, but have lost weight and feel much more energised.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 08/11/2023 18:44

@GetBackIntoBed No, I pay for it. I think to get on the NHS you would have to go through a lot of hoops and I wanted it now. I do feel lucky that I could afford it though and I hope it becomes more available/affordable.

GetBackIntoBed · 08/11/2023 18:53

Thank you for your replies

@Tailfeather would you mind saying how much have you lost? And was it easy(ish!) it is a nightmare having U/A thyroid and trying to lose weight isnt it

@TheGoodEnoughWife How much do you pay please, if you don't mind me asking!

Tailfeather · 08/11/2023 18:57

I've lost 9lbs in just over 3 weeks, very easily. But I've eaten out lots and been on holiday, so probably could have been more.

GetBackIntoBed · 08/11/2023 19:02

Thank you @Tailfeather well done!! Wow. Do you get this on NHS?

TheGoodEnoughWife · 08/11/2023 19:12

@GetBackIntoBed Cost has varied depending on where I have bought from and what size. Anything from £140-300 a pen.

Also see that the above info is old! I have now lost nearly 6st and have a BMI of 26 lol
