I've started again this week. Last time I did it I lost 2 stone and felt amazing - really energised and sharp and slept much better. I'm determined to get back on the wagon!

Hi,
I would like to. I've been on keto for a while now but always find it motivating to have support and accountability to continue my keto lifestyle.

Tailfeather · 09/08/2023 18:17

Yay @HealthierHabits2023 . How are you getting on?

Well. Tonight I felt like some sweets so I went to the shop to buy some....do I feel bad?? no...am I still in ketosis??prob not but I will wake up tomorrow and get back to keto like nothing ever happened.

I started my keto journey in April 2023 and have since lost around 15kgs. I have met my goal weight and if I'm honest with myself this is what has caused me to relax and start having sweets and chocolate when I feel like it.

I currently do alternate Day fasting where I eat one day and then fast the next for a minimum of 36 hours and this helps keep my weight stable. I cycle this pattern of eat, fast, eat, fast.

I never get cravings for rice, bread, pasta etc just sweets and chocolate 🙈 I am quite good at getting back onto keto eating the following day so I don't feel guilty or have any regrets.

How your keto journey been so far

Tailfeather · 09/08/2023 21:52

Wow! That's brilliant!

I stuck to keto for 18 months pre-covid and lost weight and felt energised and so much better in myself. I fell off the wagon completely during lockdown and have struggled to get back on it properly since. But I have piled on the weight and constantly feel tired and sluggish and know I felt so much better on keto. So here I am! Only day 4 for me, so super early days, but 100% determined.

36 hours of fasting is incredible. I do the 16:8 every day (have been while off keto too).

18 months is a long time. Well done. I hope to see this as a lifestyle change now but don't beat myself up if I do want some treats.

I would like to stop having sugar completley but I know that is easier said than done so I will try my hardest to stay on keto so I don't need to keep cycling in and out.

Doing Intermittent fasting 16:8 has good benefits I have seen this to be recommended alot.

What sort of food are you eating on keto? I find I get quite bored of food at times that's why it was so easy for me to do keto and alternate Day fasting. It gives me a break from having to think about what to eat for a day.
I am also finding that salads and vegetables make me really bloated, so I am struggling to eat them.

How far are you from your goal weight? Have you experienced "keto flu"

Tailfeather · 09/08/2023 22:13

No keto flu yet, but expecting it any day now....

Last tume I got really into all of the keto baking with almond flour and making sweet treats with stevia to inject a bit of interest. This time so far I've stuck to meats, fish, cheese, eggs, nuts, seeds, salad and veg and a few berries. I haven't been tracking my macros, but probably should.

My downfalls are cheese and diet coke...

Hi, your weight losses are amazing.
I'm really interested in trying keto.
I lost 2.5 stone on saxenda last year but have put the weight back in as soon as I stopped.
Could you point me in the right direction of where I can learn the basics for keto?

yummymctummy · 09/08/2023 22:50

I would love to join but I can never ever stick for any length of time but if you are able to stick it out you'll all see great results. I wish I was able to go the long haul but I find having young kids and a busy life makes it really difficult ( that's my excuse anyway lol) good luck to you all though I think I'm gonna try low carb again once the kids are back to school 🏫

I'm doing Keto, would love some company!
Been doing it two weeks now and have lost 5lbs.

There are lots of books and online guides. I like it as it really can become part if your lifestyle. You can eat out (steak and veg, no chips, cheese board for pudding etc) and you're allowed low sugar alcoholic drinks. AND it makes me feel better rather than hungry and sluggish like some diets.

Did you get keto flu? If so, which day?

OP posts:
bowiesmum · 10/08/2023 10:26

I had a slight headache on day 5 but that was it. Now I have been drinking wine at the weekend so maybe I'm not in full Ketosis. I actually think weight loss has slowed this week but have my period so maybe that..

LaSelkie · 10/08/2023 10:31

Does it matter if you go in and out of ketosis? I can't give up wine at the weekend!

You can have wine and spirits with diet mixers (eg gin with diet tonic). They say it slows your weight loss, but I still managed to lose weight. This is why like it! I couldn't give up socialising! I use ketosis strips and it didn't take me out of ketosis. But you are obviously consuming more, empty calories, so you would lose weight slower.

Yes I do that sometimes and I find it really satisfies my sweet tooth. The problem I had is with doing alternate Day fasting, alot of the treats end up wasting as I fast every other day. I have however found a lovely recipient for peanut butter chocolate fat bombs which I really enjoy and they last well in the fridge so I have these instead.

I track my macros on my fitness pal and this helps me see how many calories I consume too. There are some days where I can't be bothered so I don't

You say cheese is your downfall, but actually that's OK on keto depending on what cheese. Diet coke is OK too isn't it?

Hi @oreorookie

If you look on YouTube for info on the basics of Keto you can get some really good onfo. I seek information from Thomas deLauer, Dr Mindy Pelz, and Dr Eric Berg. Check them out and see if it helps.

It's all within the mind more than anything. If I tell myself I can't do something then I will surely fail. I have to have a positive mindset.

Even low carb is better that nothing and you will see great results. Keep trying

Tailfeather · 10/08/2023 18:19

@HealthierHabits2023 Yes. Cheese is allowed.....but if i'm forgoing sweet stuff I crave more cheese....and find I don't lose weight as quickly as when I'm eating good oils and avocado etc!

And yes, diet sodas are ok but pure Keto followers will frown upon them!

Bbq tonight, so lots of yummy meats with mayo and avocado

Going to try a keto stick to see if I'm in ketosis yet in the morning..

Hi! I've been doing very low carbs/keto for about 10 days - my downfall is wine though ... trying to avoid it tho!
I'm not measuring myself ... I really should but I know things often put me off as it makes me sad .... then I eat bad things and bury my head in the sand!

FloofCloud · 10/08/2023 18:43

Forgot to ask, do you do anything to check if you're in ketosis or go by symptoms?

HealthierHabits2023 · 10/08/2023 19:01

@FloofCloud I check blood ketones and also my blood sugar levels using a blood ketone and glucose meter. I do have the ketone strips however they are not as accurate.

HealthierHabits2023 · 10/08/2023 19:04

@Tailfeather Hopefully you will get that colour change to show you are in ketosis.

Let us know how it goes. I think if you are doing Intermittent fasting and you find you are not overly hungry, you can use that as am indicator that ketosis is starting.
