I've started again this week. Last time I did it I lost 2 stone and felt amazing - really energised and sharp and slept much better. I'm determined to get back on the wagon!

@HealthierHabits2023 I can't remember it taking so long before - and I deffo got keto flu, which I haven't had this time. But I'm going to give it a few more days and see what happens.

I'll join you! Huge advocate for keto!
Did it for a year with no breaks, then had a week off for a holiday and been meaning to start again.
The best eating plan I ever did. Definitely changes everything you think you know about food and diets.

curaçao · 14/08/2023 00:33

I started in early May after a routine blood test showed really high blood sugar level.
I have lost nearly 2 stone, I am 55 and post menopausal so it is very hard work!

Tailfeather · 14/08/2023 08:28

@curaçao That's amazing! Well done! Do you feel better on it? X

@TenPenceMix Hi! Is today day 1? Good luck!

Right... I'm doing this!!!! My fat wobbly backside needs this. I'm gonna make out my shopping list and plan this out. I'm back to work soon and I think that will help keep me on track. The only thing I'm worried is what I can bring for lunch when I'm working. We have a microwave so I wonder woukd soup be ok?

TenPenceMix · 14/08/2023 09:36

Well done @curaçao
@Tailfeather yes, once the first 3 days are over I'll be fine. I have a very active job so I get the achy legs. I find electrolytes help.
Does anyone else have a few restless night's sleep at the start?

Good luck ladies, it's definitely worth the tough start.

Any one fancy a weekly weigh in?

Tailfeather · 14/08/2023 09:45

@tubnansnsnsns you could make extra dinner and warm it up, salads, broths etc.

Tailfeather · 14/08/2023 09:46

@TenPenceMix Yup! My weigh day is Sunday, but I can change to Mondays!

Day 9 and I am finally in ketosis!!! Only on a pee stick - I'm out of blood test strips.

It's really given me the boost I needed. Super motivated now.

I only had 4g of carbs today though. I don't think I'll be able to continue on so little.

My bloods are 0.6. So 'light ketosis'. What range did yours get to @HealthierHabits2023 ? X

HealthierHabits2023 · 15/08/2023 16:29

@Tailfeather congratulations on your blood ketone level

I no longer measure my ketones but I still have the kit to do it. I had indulged in some chocolate a few days ago so if I was to check I can imagine it would be low. I usually do a day's fast to get back into ketosis but I haven't bothered this time, just went back to low keto and carnivore eating. I come to realise as much as I like sweets and chocolate, they cause inflammation in my joints quite bad that I don't have when I cut them out. I'm using this knowledge to help me cut them out of my diet. This is why I do keto/carnivore because even salads make me feel funny too.

Tailfeather · 15/08/2023 19:18

I'm going on holiday on Thursday. Must try to stick to it!!

I meant when you were doing it and testing, how high did your ketones go? Google suggests 1.5-3 is best.

TenPenceMix · 15/08/2023 21:26

Pee sticks are purple so I'm happy. Sore achy legs though. Need to up the electrolytes. Not hungry at all so feeling up for a longer fast tomorrow. I hope my legs stop aching soon though.
How's everyone else doing?

Bellabelloo · 15/08/2023 22:00

@TenPenceMix Good going!! X

@Tailfeather
My ranges varied from 0.9 right to 2.7 when I done a 72hour fast.
Once I knew I was in ketosis, I did not measure as I knew I was eating keto approved so there was no reason for me to keep checking. I was loosing weight every week aswell and able to go long periods without eating so I knew it was still working. Tested this morning though after I indulged in chocolate a few days ago and I'm back I. Ketosis with a reading of 0.9. I'm 25 hours onto a 36 hour fast so I expect them to continue to rise some more.

HealthierHabits2023 · 20/08/2023 20:36

Hi everyone, how we all doing on our keto journey?
Hope everyone is OK and well.

Tailfeather · 22/08/2023 09:17

Hi! I'm still finding it very hard to get into ketosis and to stay in ketosis. So weird. It wasn't like thus last time. Bloods are 0.1 this morning despite good macros and having fasted for 18 hours.

Anyway, I have lost weight. So I'm happy with that.

Week 1: 2lbs
Week 2: 5lbs (7lbs total)

@Tailfeather I wouldn't get too obsessed with chasing ketones.

Research the "Dawn phenomenon" basically this is where the body deposits a load of glucose into the body to prepare it for the day. This causes a morning spike in blood sugar levels which will in turn decrease ketones. Try testing in the afternoon see if this helps. Also do not test after a meal or exercise as this can cause a decrease in ketones.

Tailfeather · 22/08/2023 18:34

Thanks @HealthierHabits2023 . I hadn't heard of that before. I have been testing at night too.

My worry is eating high fat if I'm not in ketosis and burning fat... But I will give it a month. I'm 2 weeks and 2 days in now.

Tailfeather · 28/08/2023 11:16

1 more week in. No ketosis. (I don't understand what is going on!!!!). But 1 more lb off.

Week 1: 2lbs
Week 2: 5lbs
Week 3: 1lb (8lbs total)

What is your blood glucose levels reading at?

Yes, I have an underactuve thyroid but did last time too but was fine reaching ketosis snd staying in ketosis.

I don't know my glucose levels. I have a ketone blood monitor and pee strips.

Have you tried extended fasting? You may need to push fasting to longer hours and test ketones then if being in ketosis is what you want.

What's your daily carb limit? Have you looked for hidden carbs?
