The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

@Saxendastarter sorry you're feeling a bit down, it's so hard to not see the scales move. 9.2 kg is an amazing loss overall, you've done so well to get this far in 11 weeks.
I haven't lost anything this week so far on 1.8 and the entirety of last week on 1.2 was spent recovering from our weekend with visitors, due to up to 2.4 on Monday, will see if that makes a difference (very apprehensive about potential side effects when I do, @upanddownandupanddown I'm sorry you're suffering with it). I do however have a non-scale victory in that I feel I have a waist again, have always been hourglass but over the last year was looking more pint glass so it's great to be back to a (thick-middled) hourglass again!

Onwards and downwards, here's to a good weekend for us all.

Footgoose · 07/07/2023 11:41

@WhiteNumen , thank you the heads up. I’ve ordered 3 more pens . That will be my lot hopefully as I am into the last stone to lose.
@CiderJabs , 9 stone 10 is also my happy weight goal but like you I’ll be happy with 10 stone ish . Good luck to us both on what is our home stretch . Not a race I know but you hopefully know what I mean . At the start of this I couldn’t imagine losing nearly 40 lbs . But only 8 to go to a healthy BMI but maybe sone extra so I feel better about being back to my old self .

@Saxendastarter , have a lovely holiday . I hope the sun shines on you, Malta is lovely so my children tell me , the go on holiday far more than I do😂.

@BinnityBoo . Your life sounds so stressful ! I’m so sorry about the house . I move last year and it was smooth and still stressful ! Glad your Mum is ok .

@upanddownandupanddown , @Everdecreasingcircumferences . I’m reading your posts . Sorry to hear the side effects are tough . Must be very soul destroying .

im going to weigh myself tomorrow . Hopefully I will have lost the 1lb I gained on too much wine and pizza this week. 🤦‍♀️

hope you all have a lovely weekend . X

@upanddownandupanddown Sorry to hear about your symptoms, hope you are feeling better this afternoon.

@Namechange602 Congratulations on the 2 Stone mark.* *Good news on the other front too!

@Everdecreasingcircumferences I hope you are feeling better today & got a bit more energy back. I wonder if it is just taking your body a little bit of time to get used to your new regime?

@BinnityBoo That sounds absolutely rubbish for you, house buying and selling is so stressful at the best of times, but good news about your Mum. Congratulations on the 1 Stone mark.

@Saxendastarter Really sorry to hear you are feeling down, you are doing so well & people have really noticed how good you are looking. Fresh start this week & a beautiful holiday to look forward to.

@WhiteNumen Thankyou for the tip off with rightangled, having a look now!
@KPops22 well done on the loss 7lbs is amazing in 2 weeks!
@Footgoose Fingers crossed for a good week.

Hi all,

I hope everyone is well.

TL/DR not weight related mumblings ahead

I've been suffering from a very sore ego since Wednesday evening. I know it's silly but it's stinging. Wednesday was our presummer all company team building day. We had a Thierry Marx buffet and then went to pick strawberries and medicinal herbs on an urban farm rooftop, then we went for drinks. After official drinks at company days as a rule we each take our own teams out for more drinks and dinner. I hadn't really planned anything so we pooled FPTOM team and my team and took them to an event space with outside gardens and street food and DJ's etc etc. When we got there it was full and we didn't have tickets but I managed to get all 25 of us in for free with a couple of phone calls to people I honestly haven't seen in years. So we're in, everyone is happy and eating and drinking and I even manage to get some halal food delivered for those concerned. The evening is going well, FPTOM and I are admiring our gen'Z, they're happy and making jokes about us being the sugar mummy and daddy because as a rule on corporate days out we pay for everything . At one point I step out with FPTOM to have a cigarette (I'm a social smoker) and about 3 meters from us are 3 of the Gen'Zers, they haven't noticed us and we hear them saying "yeah but when Sax was young she was probably really really "branché" (branché means cool) because she always knows the cool places to go and knows people etc etc" ... and the conversation just goes on and on about what my life was probably like when I was "young" and "cool". The conversation wasn't malicious at all, it was honestly pretty sweet and heartwarming about how happy they were to be in my team but it still really stung. It left me remembering that yes I was "really cool" - ex and I were even featured on the cover of the Paris equivalent of times out a few times. And I was skinny and young and cool. And now I have the Gen'Zs talking about when I was young ... I'm only 33!

This weeks Weigh-in

Start Weight: 129.27kg
This week: 111.11kg
Weekly Loss: 1.10kg (2.4lbs)
Total Loss:18.16kg (40lbs)

July Walking Challenge (Target 160km)
Distance walked (1-6 July) : 34.5km

Small win this week is that I have bought a smaller size jeans & now only 2lb off 3 stone total loss.

Accountability: Next week target loss 2lb, to hit 3 stones total loss. Walk everyday.
I have an event on the 5th August, so aiming for 9lbs off by then, which will take me into the next stone bracket.

Glorfindels · 07/07/2023 15:33

@Saxendastarter It took me so long to type my update that I cross posted your last note! Your team seem to really respect you and value your opinions, life experience gives you that. Be proud you are their inspiration, they are lucky to have a strong Woman like you to look up to.

Saxendastarter · 07/07/2023 15:38

Thanks @Glorfindels I'm going to try and focus on that instead of the fact I'm old and decrepit!
You made me look... have walked 57km since the beginning of July! Very proud of myself.

@KPops22 so glad you managed to get some!

I ordered mine yesterday and with express delivery received today, so recommend them in case no stock on cheaper sites!

I'm also keeping an eye on uk meds and see they had stock for 3x on Wednesday and also today, just a heads up in case someone is still on the last pens.

My first day today, will see how it goes, been on ozempic for a bit but shortages made things a nightmare.. 9 weeks with first pen, then off 2 weeks, back again at 0.5 and off 3 weeks.. I guess that's enough.. and the price too has doubled.. so rather stick to saxenda and wait for my weight management appointment!

HW 320lb
SW 306lb
GW 160lb
BMI 53

Gosh I doubled my size 😭 was 180lb in 2020 😭😭😭😭😭

Saxendastarter · 07/07/2023 17:50

@WhiteNumen Good luck for your first day!!

Oh I feel your pain here. I was always very involved in the expat community, and especially helping trailing spouses settle in. It's a transient area and can be hard to crack the expat crowd. Even harder to make friends with the Suisse...
so I would organize regular drinks, bbqs by the lake etc etc. (still do).

One lady (who I really liked and thought I got along well with, only 4 years younger than me, and she was early 30's) sent me a beautiful message when she left.

It was honestly so kind and gushing, thanking me for helping her settle. I really appreciated it.

Until the last sentence. Which read 'you've been like a second mum to me.'

Second MUM. mum. not even a big sister. She looked at me as if I was her bloody mother.

Ffs.

Smokeahontas · 07/07/2023 21:40

Nearly at the end of week one for me (my first injection was last Sunday). It’s changed for me in the last few days, in that Monday -> Wednesday, I felt really really full all the time. Like when you’ve eaten far too much. I struggled a bit with eating on those days. Yesterday and today it’s just been a ‘normal’ full feeling, but I had the most random sugar craving, specifically for fruit pastilles earlier on.

I’m using My Fitness Pal to track and have averaged about 1,100 daily.

Saxendastarter · 07/07/2023 21:46

@justsaxy hahaha! Ça m'a fait rire, merci ;-)

@Smokeahontas I have the sugar cravings and am just going for sugar free sodas and squash even if I know it's frowned on....

OP posts:
Smokeahontas · 07/07/2023 21:52

@Saxendastarter I drink Coke Zero, no way would I give that up!

forgot this - for anyone that’s UK based, check your local Home Bargains for Slims. They’re a bread substitute and only 18 cals per slice. It’s sort of like a corn based snack type of thing, but really good for lunches.

Pineapplepansy · 07/07/2023 22:04

I went to a big work event today and at lunchtime there was a barbecue with an enormous queue of about 100 people. Normally I'd be panicking that they'd run out of food before it was my turn but today I didn't care and I went off and chatted to people and returned to the queue half an hour later when it was shorter. This has literally never happened before - I would always make sure I was one of the first in the queue as I get beside myself with hunger and worry there won't be enough. It was nice to feel normal around food for once. My extreme hunger used to make me feel like a wild animal at times!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 08/07/2023 09:23

@Pineapplepansy I can absolutely recognise the extreme hunger you refer to, and how it can make you feel out of control. I honestly don't believe that most of those who have never struggled with their weight have any understanding of how strong the hunger/appetite pull is when they say 'just eat less, move more'.
I think that's how the jab is working for me, I just don't feel those strong hunger pangs at the moment. I'm not getting the full feeling some are experiencing and could easily eat the same portions I did before, the food chatter is still there, but the hunger definitely doesn't feel as strong as it used to. I do need to move more though, hoping this exhaustion will lessen soon so I can get back to exercise.

Feeling frustrated with my plateau this week, this is usually the point at which I end up giving up fighting and just give i to the hunger. Not today though, with the help of sax I'm going to ignore the food chatter and push through as this is absolutely going to be my year.

Footgoose · 08/07/2023 09:35

oh @Saxendastarter . You are still so very young and likely still so very cool . I don’t know anyone who could pull off getting 25 people in to ticketed event for free. You were clearly a high achiever from a very young age , now at 33 you can enjoy the additional respect that goes with that coolness and achievement that only comes with moving into your 30’s .

just as an aside , my Mum had me when she was young but all my life I remember her as old . How funny it is to look back on photographs and see how young she was ! She was not even in her forties when as a teenager I thought she was ancient.
I hope you are having a lovely holiday .

Footgoose · 08/07/2023 10:20

@Pineapplepansy and @Everdecreasingcircumferences . Yes to the hunger pangs. I’m pretty open about it with my DH . If he’s planning a day out , I will literally have to insist he remembers we need to eat or I’ll get Hangry ! He can go all day without eating . I get in to a right mood if I don’t know where my next meal is coming from . That’s all gone with Saxenda . I get a bit hungry but I’ve got time and patients now to wait a bit or be able to cook something from scratch . Biggest plus for me is the general calm I have around food and alcohol now .

weight today , another 2lb loss this week , just 2 days later than official weigh day which is Thursday . I’m now 11 stone 1.25lbs . Healthy BMI is 10 stone 8 pounds . Thanks to the tip off regarding Right Angled pharmacy ( apologies I’ve forgotten the name of the poster ) I received 3 more pens this morning .so I have enough to the end I hope . I take the full dose so they don’t last long . All the best everyone . X

Tarragon123 · 08/07/2023 10:56

Hi folks

hope you are all doing well. I’ve lost almost a stone, but am on my last pen. Re-ordered from Boots last night and then got an email to say my pharmacy was out of stock. I should try another branch and resubmit. Of course, now everywhere is out of stock!

it looks like HerrDocktor is my only hope but it’s so expensive. Anyone having any luck elsewhere?

upanddownandupanddown · 08/07/2023 11:18

Morning all. Sorry for being a whinge but the side effects continue despite 2 days off the injections. Now lost about 4kg in the past 5 days and nearly fainted this morning. Drinking loads though and managing to keep it down in the main. This stuff is no joke!

WhiteNumen · 08/07/2023 11:26

@Tarragon123 might need to wait until Monday.. don't think there are any deliveries on weekends.
@upanddownandupanddown I'm so sorry you are still feeling unwell, I'm not sure how long saxenda stays in the system (haven't researched that yet) but maybe could be a combination of the medication and a stomach bug?
@Footgoose well done 👏 your goal weight is getting closer!

Footgoose · 08/07/2023 11:35

Thanks @WhiteNumen , I think it was you that told us about Right Angle pharmacy . Does @Tarragon123 know about them ?

@upanddownandupanddown , gawd , you have my sympathies . With regard to how long Sax stays in your system , apparently it has a half life of 13 hours . So a few days I imagine .
i hope you start feeling better soon .

WhiteNumen · 08/07/2023 11:51

@Footgoose oh yes, they have increased prices now, but in case of emergency they do have stock often.
@upanddownandupanddown I'd keep an eye on rightangled, ukmeds (haven't used this one but they have 3x stock often, seen it on Wednesday and Friday last week) they limit one set per customer.
Also this one has stock sometimes.. these are the ones I've kept an eye on, until boots reopens to new customers.

https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/online-doctor/weight-loss/saxenda/

Quickmeds has ridiculous prices, they update stock at 6pm but their site gets so slow, never been able to buy ozempic from them due to this.. I'd avoid them.

Healthexpress (haven't used this one but heard many have with ozempic) has been out of stock for a while.

Hope this helps

Tarragon123 · 08/07/2023 11:51

@WhiteNumen ah thanks! I’ve emailed Boots back to say how disappointed I am that they couldn’t have checked another pharmacy.

@Footgoose yes thank you. They are out of stock now too 😫
