Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

Hi all,

My fever didn't drop so after sending a protesting FPTOM home because I was feeling too disgusting and horrible I panicked at about 3 am and called a doctor out because I was having a hard time breathing and swallowing and fever not budging even with paracetamol and was starting to feel slightly delirious ... Doctor took me to a&e because I have tonsillitis and a had to have an abscess drained and FPOTM came and fetched me and now I'm home but still have a drip courtesy of FPOTM persuading the hospital doctors that if they gave him the fluid bags he's set me up at home and stay with me ... So I'm feeling very sorry for myself and its already 27° out ...

Oh no, glad FPOTM is with you. Hope you get well soon!

Too hot to eat today. I picked at salad, and then went to the lake to swim tonight. Had an ice cream as well, which was wonderful.

Now flaked on the couch. Feel quite lethargic. It's due to stay this hot here until Wednesday (sob). I am so ready for autumn.

Interesting to hear those of you who are moving to wegovy.

5 days until I see the endocrinologist and finally get my hands on saxander. Whoop!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 11/09/2023 11:29

Ffs! Just typed a long reply and had it deleted!
@Saxendastarter I'm sorry to hear you aren't well. It sounds absolutely rotten. Glad you're being well looked after. And hope this hellish heat fucks off soon.

@justsaxy hoorah for getting sax! 😁

I forgot to update last week. So double update this week.
Starting weight 16st 13.
Week 17 14st 9, 1lb loss.
Week 18 14st 7, 2lb loss.
2st 6lb loss in total.

Bmi has gone from 43.1 to 36.9 hoorah!
I've added my little graph which pleases me no end seeing the weight come down.

I have finally moved house. Finally, finally, finally! It's a shithole, and in absolute chaos! But it will be a lovely home when I've finished with it! We didn't have any way of making food for a good 5 days, so it was pretty much fast food. So I'm surprised with the loss, but I have been very very active, plus illness, and even though its been fast food, I can only eat small amounts of it I suppose!

@ThisMustBeMyDream that's fantastic weightloss, you must be so pleased with your progress!
I've started feeling a bit nauseous today, didn't fancy breakfast (I often don't) but started feeling slightly shaky and wan by lunchtime and the feeling didn't subside when I had lunch (chorizo sandwich with salad and 6 small squares of raspberry chocolate). Had a nap and am now feeling a bit better - think this is the wegovy kicking in. Fortunately not in work today, will be harder if I feel like this at the office tomorrow.

justsaxy · 11/09/2023 18:20

@ThisMustBeMyDream the graph is amazing! I am useless at these things (I can't even figure out how to do those weighloss things that all the instagram accounts use!) but I love a good visual!

@Everdecreasingcircumferences hope that it passes soon

It's currently 30 degrees here right now, it's been a sweaty sweaty day, so I hit the pool after work before it closes at the weekend until Spring. Mt Blanc was being a little shy, but you can see her in the background. (No filters, I bloody love living here!)

KatGirl007 · 11/09/2023 18:22

Saxendastarter - Get better soon. So sorry to hear you have tonsillitis. I remember my sister had this really bad and had hers removed.

Everdecreasingcircumferences – So glad to hear you are starting Wegovy. My doctor told me this morning she is going to put in a prescript for me since there is no more Saxenda around here (US). So I will start next week.

@MsLK14 - Happy birthday and many more!

10Lisa - So you are starting on Wegovy too. This is great!

I have a pen and ½ pen left of Saxenda to get thru till next week. Doctor said to take a couple of days and then start Wegovy. I do hope to see change. I lost weight only on two weeks of Saxenda and now stalled here on week five. I had no side effects on Saxenda. So I will see what Wegovy brings.

10Lisa · 11/09/2023 22:42

@Katgirl007 let me know what you think on WG. I’m started on lowest dose due to the supply gap but not sure it’s enough…I’m on the fence

@justsaxy and others who like a good visual … if you haven’t tried it Happy Scale is a decent free app for tracking loss and forecasting hitting goals

AngryAngel · 12/09/2023 14:17

@Saxendastarter OP! Poor you, I hope you are feeling better soon. Must be horrid to be unwell in the heat. I’ve been on Saxenda for about 4 (5?) months now, but nothing seemed to shift for the last month. I thought I finally broke through my plateau, but a previous week or so of kind of almost giving up on it all caught up with me. Who would have thought that factory levels of skittles would mess with my sugar levels!? I’m still craving pizza and biscuits. And I have quite a weakness for wine. Something I will need to address more seriously at some point. I still have no side effects whatsoever. Because of Saxenda shortage I’m hoping to get approved for Wegovy and who knows, maybe that will work better? Will be interesting to see if there is any change. @Footgoose I’m interested that you can you get medication to help with alcohol cravings. I thought Sax would end my pizza craving, but apparently not! Can you take Mysimba at the same time as Sax or Wegovy? @Everdecreasingcircumferences I'm thinking of asking for an increase in my HRT too.

Footgoose · 12/09/2023 15:16

@AngryAngel . I’ve still not chased it up properly but I know the meds are there if I can get a script . There are others on this thread more knowledgable than me who may be able to expand .

@Saxendastarter . Hope you have started to feel better . X

Glorfindels · 12/09/2023 16:20

Well, I have just put an order in for Wegovy, awaiting approval. I forgot to take Saxenda over the weekend and was surprised how the food chatter in my head increased in only 48 hrs...It could be hormonal-but I was seriously craving sweets and sugar.

@KatGirl007 It seems we are in a similar place Saxenda/Wegovy. I hope it goes well for you.

@ThisMustBeMyDream Congratulations on your loss- great results.

@Saxendastarter I hope you are feeling better.

@justsaxy not long now, fingers crossed for you.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 12/09/2023 18:34

Hi all

Feeling much better today than yesterday - and have been starving all day! Not ideal, had two biscuits in work and two slices of homemade low sugar banana and courgette cake when I got home, German rye bred slices for breakfast and a healthy salad for lunch. Mushroom fajitas for dinner- if I can avoid temptation to snack after dinner I'll be pleased. Not feeling guilty about having lapsed a bit today as I feel confident it's not the start of a downward spiral just yet. The hideous weather today hasn't helped, just so soggy out there!

Are you starting to feel any better @Saxendastarter ?

Saxendastarter · 12/09/2023 18:40

Hi all, thanks for your well wishes, unfortunately I'm still pretty much stuck in bed with a fever and feeling pretty shitty still.

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 12/09/2023 18:44

However, I have so much soup dropped off by friends and will judge their respective cooking skills when I feel up to eating.

I spent a lot of time between Marrakesh and Essaouira and a child and young adult ( my grandfather lived there) and so am also pretty shaken by the quake and situation over there and so sort of grateful I have this bastard tonsillitis as an excuse to mope around rather than having to put on a brave happy face at work...

Footgoose · 12/09/2023 21:50

@Saxendastarter . The news is pretty terrible and im sorry you are still not feeling better .

Hope everyone is ok . House moves, switching meds, etc . A lot going on with this thread as always . It’s Good to be a part of it .

KatGirl007 · 13/09/2023 13:41

I started Wegovy today. No issues so far this morning. When you all get a chance Wegovy has a great online site called WeGoTogether. Sign up for it. It is free. It has a library of positive information on it in helping you thru your journey. It even has a live coach you can talk to and articles if you don't want the live coach. It is really needed to get your mind set on the reason we are taking Wegovy. I hope this helps everyone. Here in the US the pharmacist told me that they have no problem getting Wegovy at the 1.7 dose or higher. It is the low doses that they cannot get. Since I was at the high dose on Saxenda my doctor had no problem switching me over to the 1.7 dose. Now here's to hoping all goes well.

Namechange602 · 13/09/2023 15:33

Afternoon all,

Good to see so that the thread is still here and so supportive and that you're feeling a bit better @Saxendastarter - homemade soup is the next best thing to penicillin so I hope that helps.

After being thoroughly fed up and fretting about availability, I've got a grip of myself. While I've been mostly off Saxenda for the last month-ish I haven't actually put any weight on, just bobbed around within a pound or so of the same weight, so that's good.

I am aware though that I'm snacking more - 4pm pangs etc - and so I've found that Manual have stock and have just ordered 5 pens. Waiting for confirmation but can't see a problem unless they're out of stock and not admitting it. I remembered people here saying they'd used them and so I thought I'd risk it.

They offered Wegovy as an option but as I'm not on the full dose of Saxenda because 1.8 was working okay I'm sticking with it as I think the Wegovy would work out more expensive. The Saxenda should be here Friday-ish and I'll be back in the saddle from Monday.

Onwards and downwards x

NotABeliever · 13/09/2023 22:41

Hi everyone, can I join this thread?
I have a question. Does anyone else find injecting in the thigh painful? Well nit exactly painful but I can feel the needle and it stings a bit whereas in the stomach sometimes I don't even know the needle had gone in. I definitely have more fat in the stomach, that may be why?
Any tips for how to inject in other areas properly are greatly received!

KatGirl007 · 14/09/2023 13:10

Hi NotABeliever, I get the same sting in my thigh. I don't feel it in my arm or stomach. We must be hitting some nerves. I make sure I switch it around to those three.

10Lisa · 14/09/2023 16:13

Week 1 Wegovy done … completely on the fence. Been hungry most days and despite a supply break not sure the move from Sax 2.4 to lowest WG dose is cutting it.

week 2 started 🤞

Glorfindels · 14/09/2023 18:14

@NotABeliever I find the same- but with no problem injecting into stomach.

@10Lisa Fingers crossed for Week 2.

@Footgoose Hope you are having a good week.

@Saxendastarter Do we have a favorite soup yet?..Hope you are on the mend. The news coming from Morocco, but also Libya is just horrific- so saddening, those poor people.

I'm checking in early this week as I am out and about tomorrow. (Starting at 129.27kg) Today 101.6kg, loss of 1.8kg.

Next week's target is 2lbs, and I am going to start back at the gym!!! If I type it here then it is set in stone. I am going to go at lunch time & do couch to 5k on the treadmill & some weights.

KatGirl007 · 14/09/2023 20:52

10Lisa I am on day 2 Wegovy. Not like Saxenda where I felt no desire to eat in the first two weeks. But, it does make me have the feeling of staying conscious about what I eat if that makes since. So I am going to go with that.

Glorfindels You are so focused. I am trying to be like that. OK, I am going to put it out there that I am going to lose 2 lbs. this week before my second Wegovy shot.

So hubby decided to treat all of us to Silver Diner (takeout) for lunch since I am working from home today. I'm glancing online at the menu (mouth watering) taking forever to pick something. I ended up ordering the flank iron steak, garlic spinach and a small salad for my side. Do you know they had to nerve to put mash potatoes in my meal. I checked the receipt and no mention of mash potatoes on my order. So I took a spoonful and gave the rest to my daughter. That was major for me. I still have 1/2 the small steak left and garlic spinach and will met it tomorrow for dinner. That was definitely Wegovy.

I did have a slick of Dave's seed bread toasted with Just Nuts peanut butter for breakfast and 1/2 a small banana chopped up on top (gave the rest to my daughter.

Saxendastarter · 15/09/2023 11:09

Hi all,

So I was still feeling very very crappy yesterday ... feels endless - tested for covid again and it's positive so I have a delicious tonsillitis covid combo and have been pretty out of it for the last ten days.
I'm still reading and hope to be back to living life ( and posting here) by Monday. Which is conveniently Jewish New Year - taking this as a symbolic new start. I'm hoping to have lost weight during the last week but FPOTM says to not have too high hopes because of all the steroids ...

Oh @Saxendastarter what bad luck! I am so sorry that you are having such a rough time, but yes for Monday and everything that it brings!

I finally got my hands on a prescription today, but... nowhere has any stock. The endocrinologist told me that I have to go around pharmacies every week to try and find out who has stock. Only two were willing to put me on a waiting list. DH is going to visit the pharmacies near his work as well, so hopefully we can get the area between the two of us covered (the Swiss love pharmacies, there are lots about!).

One pharmacist even told me not to even bother starting, because if I did get one box, there were no guarantees that I would even get a second. 😞

In good news though, I have lost a kilo since last week. So, I guess I am starting to get my head in the zone. (I was really looking forward to today, so am now feeling a bit flat.) Shall continue to do so. (It's payday next week, so I might even pop over to France and see if there are any in stock to actually pay for)

To cheer myself up, I bought myself a pretty bowl and a smaller one, to limit my food portions.

The endocrinologist gave me the Saxenda diary, so I will use that regardless...

(Also, on FB I saw that people are using half doses, so 0.6 and then so many clicks, for example, to make their pens last longer. Do any of you do that?)

Happy Friday night everyone!

Namechange602 · 17/09/2023 11:07

So sorry you're so unwell @Saxendastarter - I do hope you feel better soon.

KatGirl007 · 18/09/2023 16:27

Is anyone measuring inches lost? I just checked and I am 5 inches down on my waist. 1.5 months. So happy.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 18/09/2023 19:44

I've measured on occasion @KatGirl007 but I'm one of those people who gain and lose weight all over, so I don't get much difference in inches. I retain my hour glass figure no matter how fat I get 🤣. It is frustrating though that now I've lost 2.5st people are only just starting to mention it! At a stone it isn't that noticeable on me due to losing it everywhere 😩.
@Saxendastarter are you feeling any better yet? I hope so.
@justsaxy hoorah for prescription! I feel the pain with trying to source them too though 😔. I have done the clicks since 1.2. I'm now on 2.1 by doing 1.8 and 5 clicks. I'm trying to keep cost down, but also due to supply issues. I will try and go back to 1.8 soon if I can.

Today is week 19. 1lb loss. 14st 6, 2st 7lb total loss.
Next goal: I'd love to be sub 14 stone by October half term. We go to Alton Towers at the end of October and I'd love to not care if I'll be squished in to the rides! I probably won't be now, but I know I've been before in the late 13's and been absolutely fine!

Speaking of stock, I got dangerously low last week, with 2 failed attempts at collecting from Boots. Finally got 2 pens Friday before last, and one pen last Friday. But had to travel 2 hr round trips to get them. One pen is a bit of a pisstake really when on the higher doses. I don't have time for weekly 2 hr round trips!
