The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

@KatGirl007 0.6 isn't a therapeutic dose so most of us don't feel anything on it. Give it time and move up each week as recommended, hopefully it will work for you.

KatGirl007 · 11/08/2023 14:39

Thanks for advice. I will. I need to learn patience. LOL and this is going to be the change I need. My doctor said to do this for a month and then she may put me on Wegovy once it is back in stock.

Weekly up-date.

Start Weight: 129.27kg (29.04.2023)
Weight today: 106.39kg
Weekly Loss/gain: -0.54kg (-1.2lb)
Total Loss: 22.88kg (50.4lbs)

Happy to have had a loss this week, as had celebrations all weekend. Even though I didn't have a full food blow out, I didn't eat as carefully as normal.

This week: Aim is a 2lb loss.

Yes!!!! All losses are losses!

MsLK14 · 11/08/2023 16:09

As of today I’m at 17lbs lost (been on about 9 weeks) and it just drops me into the “overweight” BMI rather than “obese” (woo!)
I’m not a big fan of the BMI criteria and my personal target weight is in the low-mid overweight bracket so I feel like I’m getting there!!!!!
I have 2 full pens and one that’s about 1/3rd left and I’ve decided that once those are done I’m going to come off it. I’ll begin cycling back down to 1.2 on the 2nd last one and 0.6 for the last one to gradually wean myself off it. Hopefully the lessons learned and the strength training I’ve been doing will mean I can keep up the momentum

Diorinthecountryy · 11/08/2023 20:37

Hi, can I join please.

I started on saxenda the start of June and have lost 10 pounds so far. I still have two full pens and a half pen. I was lucky enough to buy them before the stock issues. I stayed on 0.6 for longer than you are supposed to this was to stretch the pens out. I am wondering if that's what's slowed my weight loss down. This week I've increased up to the 1.2 the only side effect really is tiredness.

Do you think my weight loss will pick up now I've upped the dose?

I have another two stone and eleven pounds to lose.

Lots of luck to all on the thread.

KatGirl007 · 12/08/2023 11:54

I just upped mine to 1.2 and now feel less like eating. I just started so 10 lbs. sounds great. I would think the increase would help.

KatGirl007 · 12/08/2023 14:17

So I went up to 1.2 and feel this is better for me. I used the thigh today to see if there is any difference from injecting in the stomach. Do you all rotate? No side effects (fingers crossed) and I don't feel the need to have to eat. My husband ate breakfast and I couldn't. Just sipping on some tea with lemon and will probably drink one of my shakes that have 30 grams of protein because I remember my doctor saying how important it is to get that in along with veggies and fruits. What are you all eating today? We have some leftover chicken I made the other day and a lot of spring mix salad. Also have sushi in the fridge. I will probably have two of those later. Have not given up my wine yet. Just doing about 2 or 3 oz. at my dinner meal. Lots of water throughout the day.

Diorinthecountryy · 12/08/2023 17:23

Thanks @KatGirl007 I don't rotate just always use my stomach. I feel really tired and weak today. Everything feels like such an effort. I've not had anything to eat today and only had one cup of tea and some water with lime cordial. I have no hunger or thoughts of food.

Going to try and have some food later. Probably something light. Definitely need to try and get another few litres drunk today. When I woke up this morning I was so dry.

Not moving up dose again until my body gets used to 1.2 or I go back down.

Hope this passes soon.

WhiteNumen · 12/08/2023 17:45

Hi everyone, sorry been MIA.. lots has happened..

Lovely holiday pics!

Quick update.. injecting in my belly started to get painful not sure why.. still lots of fat there.. and since I hate needles this is stressing me a bit. Itchiness and bumps are still there and I'm just pushing through. First day with thigh injection and oh lord that was painful. Will go back to belly.

Weight update, finally after couple of weeks at 297ish weight dropped to 291. Believe it was due mostly to increased activity.
Stopped tracking food since I'm barely eating ( fridge empty lol) and getting nauseous after eating..

Sw 306lb 07.07.23
Cw 291lb 12.08.23

Total loss 15lb in a little bit over a month, I can't complain, I've reached my 5%.

Someone at work noticed and I brushed it off.. in the past I used to be so proud of my weight loss, now if someone comments on it, it annoys me.. they don't day anything when you gain, just ignore and avoid you.. but the moment you start losing weight they are all chatty and complimenting you..
I'm the same person, just with less fat ffs.

Sorry, rant over.

KatGirl007 · 12/08/2023 18:37

Diorinthecountryy: My doctor told me to eat something or drink a protein shake to get something into my system so that I won't have the nausea problem. So I went to the store and got shakes with 1 sugar, 25 or 30 protein. I also put electrolyte drops in my water bottle once a day to stay hydrated. It definitely is working. Hope this helps.

Everyone is doing so good. I can't wait to say I have some losses.

freetheunicorn1 · 12/08/2023 20:41

Don't have much left and feeling sad, only on my second pen but lost 5kg so far so a bit gutted.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/08/2023 20:55

I'm still here! I forgot to post last Mondays weigh in: 15st 1, so 1lb loss, total 26lb in 13 weeks.
I'm away Sunday night this week, so I'll weigh tomorrow morning, but today I was 14st 12.5, so hoping that I'll at least hit the 2 stone mark, if not a smidge more 🤞🤞🤞🤞.
I've been comparing old weight losses through slimming world. Last summer I started on 16th May (so a week after Saxenda this year). In the same time I've lost 2 stone on Sax, I lost 1 st dieting on slimming world alone. And it has been pretty much effortless. I don't have to overthink anything, plan things to the nth degree, be all obsessed over food, what the next meal will be etc etc.
I love the freedom!

Scottishlanza · 12/08/2023 21:30

@ThisMustBeMyDream i feel the same way, during covid I dieted on my own from the April and by December 2030 I had lost 8 pound. I was terrified of getting covid as all the people dying were overweight so I was really sticking to it. Plus the fact that socialising and holidays were out of the equation so no extra calories there. This year with saxenda I’ve lost 19 pound in 4 months effortlessly. The voice in my head telling me I’m hungry all the time has gone

Scottishlanza · 12/08/2023 21:30

2020 not 2030 lol

KatGirl007 · 13/08/2023 23:43

So Day 4 I weighed in at 4.2 lbs. lost. No issues so far. Taking in my protein like the doctor said and drinking water with electrolytes to keep my energy up. I do a Premier shake in the morning since I have no hunger for breakfast. I notice this helps me keep my protein intake up. I eat on small plates for lunch and dinner since I don't have an appetite. This seems to work so far. Drinking lots of water and tea with lemon. I am on 1.2 for dose. I was told the key is to eat protein so that you don't lose muscle. Going to get on my indoor bike for 30 minutes.

KatGirl007 · 13/08/2023 23:47

freetheunicorn1 hang in there 11 lb. loss is great. Give yourself some credit. Just think of every loss as fat removed from your body.

freetheunicorn1 · 14/08/2023 07:25

Thanks @KatGirl007, I am happy with my results just wish I had more Saxenda to keep the momentum.

justsaxy · 14/08/2023 09:18

Good morning sisters, and happy Monday!

Still no news from my insurance company, which I am waiting for EVERY DAY. I am getting a bit nervous about returning to work next week (I have been off since 1st June on medical leave) and not having the time to focus on what I eat/exercising. I really really really do not want to go back, and I have felt it has had a knock on effect on my eating and sleep patterns. It's too late to resign (again, I already did in February but was talked out of it), so I will just have to suck up the next ten months but I am determined to leave next year as I really feel this place isn't the best for my actual health, as much as I love my profession.

But... I am still off alcohol and Coke Zero, so counting that as a win and am going to try and get my appetite curbed again from today by making some curries and lentils. Have enjoyed a few too many alcohol free Hugo's and beers so going to limit that.

I was invited to spend Saturday night in Chamonix with some friends, and there was a meteor shower that night. I saw Starlink for the first time, clear views of the Milky Way and four enormous shooting stars that seemed to go right across the sky (plus countless others). It was really a lovely evening, and then on Sunday took a cable car up to the Aiguille du Midi, which is the highest cable car in France. It was beautiful.

Anyway, today is a new start and I am going to write everything I eat down again, make myself a batch of Korean Drug eggs (my latest favourite thing to put in my mouth) and chill while I still can.

I hope that you are all feeling ok today and have a nice day ahead of you... 😊

I’m in England

Just back from holiday, don’t think I’ve fared too badly weight wise but can’t face weigh-in today so dodging it until next week!!

KPops22 · 15/08/2023 17:00

While we use scales we do need to remember that there are so many things that affect our scale weight number - water and muscle are just two that may have been affected by holidays and yes they will make that number higher. Don't despair ladies - look at what you have achieved!
