Check out The Sugar Solution Detox Diet by Mark Hyman, @LibbySarjeant . No need to do the actual 10-day diet unless you want to, but the maintenance recipes in the second half of the book are really easy and tasty. Plus he explains the problems associated with sugar and carb addiction really well. Once I switched to eating mostly vegetables and protein I never looked back - no more cravings and I look and feel incredibly healthy. My skin is in much better shape too.

(You can find it for free on Internet Archive)

Thank you @SpinachSpinachMoreSpinach, I'll have a look at that - I'm vegetarian as well, hopefully it will have some helpful tips? I'm a reasonably intelligent person but meal planning is something I just cannot get my head round! It doesn't help that DTS1 has various ASD-related food issues and DP will moan if meals aren't heavily meat-based...

Hi all.
Just wanted to say that it's not really our fault and it isn't about lacking willpower or some other character failing. Ultra processed food and sugars are really addictive and eating them just makes us crave more and more. In trying not to eat them we are basically trying to override a biological reaction!

There's a low carb bootcamp starting on the 19 June if anyone is interested. It's going to be tough especially for the first couple of weeks because it's very strict rules. I've signed up (there's a sign up thread active at the moment), because I think ditching sugar and cake and crisps is the only way I stand a chance of losing weight - am also perimenopausal and on HRT.

I'm still very fat but on Ozempic I've managed to lose 15.8kg in 11 weeks. I've still got a long way to go but I don't feel hungry much anymore. The first 4 days after my injection, I've really no appetite. It slowly returns on day 6. Then the next day another jab. I've never done this well on a diet before.

The problem with Ozempic (as someone who tried it) is firstly it has bad side effects for some people (nausea, vomiting etc) but also your appetite returns with a vengeance as soon as you stop taking it, so most people quickly regain the weight, studies have shown.

Not saying people shouldn't try it if they want to but it has downsides. Also the expense - about £200 a month. It's a lot of money if you do regain the weight, so it's most definitely not to be recommended as an easy solution.

It's not the fat that's making you fat!!

It's the sugar and the refined carbs, not to mention UPF.

Cut those out, eat mainly vegetables and protein, and exercise with weights.

If you combine this with intermittent fasting you won't need to count calories.

If nothing else, at least read the introduction of The Sugar Solution . It's an eye opener!

So I took action after another food filled and boozy weekend and have been calorie counting this week. Scales heading down..I need to stick at this, my shorts don't fit (or much else) and I'm miserable.

Absolem76 · 16/06/2023 15:36

you start right now, you could easily lose a stone or even more over the summer, in time for august and September.
How? Weight just seems impossible to lose once you get past a certain age especially if you are short. I used to be slim......

NorthWestThree · 16/06/2023 16:54

I just don't want to live the lifestyle I would need to maintain in order to be slim. And that's my choice and I am trying to not complain about being fat because I have made the choice not to do what I need to do, if that makes sense.

I know how to lose weight, but where it used to come off easily with an 80/20 approach (sensible, on plan 80% of the time, 20% more relaxed) that isn't the case now. To lose weight I need to restrict everything, all the time. NO cheat days, no alcohol, no dinners out, no Friday night take away. That's where my body and my metabolism is at. 80/20 sees me maintaining my weight which means I get nights out etc. If I have a gain I can be strict with myself for a couple of weeks and lose that gain. But I cannot shift the 2 stone I need for that sought after BMI of 22.

I love my life and I've got a lovely social life and I do fun things and I think if thar is the sacrifice I'd have to make to be slim, well I'm not gonna make it 😂

Would love to click my fingers and at least shift a stone maybe. Cos I know how to maintain!

In the usual way. Cutting down on unhealthy things, increasing healthy things and getting more exercise. I'm 46, 47 next week, perimenopausal (confirmed by bloods recently) and have lost 2.5 stone since last September. Some people might find it more difficult as they get older but I think it's a fallacy to say beyond a certain age it's impossible because I cant be the only person in the world who's managed it.

toomanyleggings · 16/06/2023 20:31

Just thought that I’d come back to this thread. I decided to read the fast800 book. I’ve been doing it since Monday and have lost 7lbs ( my bmi is only just in the overweight so it’s not that easy for me to lose weight). I’m going on holiday beginning of August and would love to drop another 7lb so feeling a bit more motivated.

Harder, but not impossible. I'm 5' 1", age 52, eight years post menopause (no HRT, if that makes a difference). I've lost one stone twelve pounds since January, a lot for my height. I've still had wine at weekends and a takeaway once a week, whilst being careful at other times. SW 11 st 7 Ib, CW 9 st 9 Ib, hoping to lose some more. Pics for comparison, before one taken last July, after one a week ago.

AutisticLegoLover · 16/06/2023 21:11

Forgot to add that I'm short too and have several chronic conditions.

Yeah yeah I know it’s fashionable to blame carbs for everything.

But I’m on Orlistat so I dare not each too much fat or I get bad side effects in the bathroom and guess what? Reducing fat is helping me lose a couple of lb a week, which I’m perfectly happy with.

Final thought from me........ remember this isn't just about looks, or being able to wear the jeans you wore in your twenties.

It's about your health. One day, you too will be 60, 70...

A scary thought perhaps, but if you do the work now, you'll cope so much better than you might otherwise.

Have a look around you, notice 'older' people. One day this could be you...

Lostinplaces · 17/06/2023 11:36

Can I just say a huge well done to all those who have lost weight or are doing so right now. You will be inspiring people on this thread, keep doing you’re doing great.

Today I have woken up and chosen violence against myself in the form of bacon and sausage breakfast roll from Gregg’s, 3 purple star burst and a packet of beef hula hoops. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know why.

This week I've had a health diagnosis which includes the words "could be eased by losing weight".
I need to print that off and make it my screensaver.

Lostinplaces · 17/06/2023 21:36

@RunningKatie i think I need that t-shirt too. No chronic health conditions yet. But there are a myriad of things that could be eased for me by dropping some kg’s, my knees would definitely thank me and I suspect my bed would also.

Hello all,

Well done to those who've had good losses! I have over indulged today and feel crap now! I feel sluggish compared to the days I've been good. Could be psychological but more likely to be all the rubbish I've eaten. However, I'm trying to be positive in that I've had more good days than bad, so I just need to get back to it tomorrow!

DarkDarkNight · 17/06/2023 23:28

Me too. Fat summer on to a fat Christmas. Every time I start a diet I have the highest hopes and the best intentions. It never lasts though. I can’t have a day off and get back on it, I fall off the wagon and really struggle to get back to it.

I am always covered up in a hoodie, jacket or cardigan. I have finally admitted defeat with the current heat in a hot workplace with no AC and wore just t shirts at break times. I felt so uncomfortable as if everyone was staring.

I’m the kind of person who says I will do things when I am thin - go swimming, start socialising, go on a beach holiday.

SmurfetteSalad · 18/06/2023 07:15

Can someone please explain ozempic to me?
What is it?
How does it work?
How do you get it?
How overweight do you need yo be?
Are there side effects?

Thanks x

So I am 45 and I have underactive thyroid, perimenopause , tired all the time , blah blah blah. I was at my heaviest ever start of the year and I decided I was going to do WHATEVER it takes to lose some weight to get back to at least the healthy range (BMI was30 and just entered the obese range, congrats to me). I started a low cal meal delivery service, attempted exercise and I did lose a whopping 3kg / 7lb over January and February and then it just stalled over March.

I then got very annoyed at myself and decided that if all these people (some of whom aren’t even as big as me ) on TikTok can go take Ozempic or Saxenda or those other medications I can’t spell then why can’t I? I certainly am fat and I am desperate . Anyway I have been on Saxenda since Easter and I have steadily lost another 22lb and am now fitting back into the size 12 clothing I had stored away. I have more energy back and I don’t feel like a tired old slug.

I have decided I will sign up to a reformer Pilates class which I think will happen some time in July. I loathe the gym and hate exercise classes but I’ve heard that reformer Pilates classes are small so not like there’s 30+ women. And it’s the type of exercise that you don’t sweat too much.

What's the difference between ozempic snd saxenda?

Can you have these things with HRT?
