2.5lb a week (on average)

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

My extra special soup is actually only 134 cals for 300g so that is even better! I will be having the full 600g pot

It gets a bit stressful trying to eat as clean as possible, healthy, low calorie!

Im definitely going to try and stop eating bread everyday tho

Ilovedavidmitchell · 02/07/2023 12:45

Ive done something dodgy to my knee from running yesterday!

I'm hoping it's nothing serious and just going to rest for a couple of days. Not ideal though when trying to lose weight 😩

Todaypicard · 02/07/2023 12:53

Quitelikeit you can see what I’ve been eating the last 5 weeks on this thread. I don’t believe in “going hard” (eating hardly any calories) because it’s not sustainable and the science tells us that 95% of people that lose weight fast will just gain it again. Hence the classic yo-yo dieters. In animal studies the fat cells change forever in response to crash diets and self regulation becomes almost impossible (eating disorders such as anorexia, and illness such as cancer are exceptions). I do not want that to happen to me. My whole family are obese and have been their whole life - they to to diet and just get bigger and bigger. Their attitude to food and their metabolisms and hormonal control of their appetites is ruined. They eat huge amounts of UPF, are frightened of “fat” so they don’t eat full fat diary or nuts, or anything that is nutrient rich or that might help them feel full. Instead they eat white carbs, sugar and not enough vegetables or trace vitamins. No amount of my attempts to educate about new recipes etc will help them. I can’t eat when I go there unless it’s an emergency (like the other night when I was unwell) or I take my own food. I know I eat well, but just too much and I have become inactive since stopping working full time. I’m trying to change that and that is why the weight is coming off fairly easily. I intend to eat this way forever.

Todaypicard · 02/07/2023 12:55

Today I didn’t eat breakfast (something I’m trying - intermittent fasting style).

for lunch I had a cheese sandwich (homemade spelt bread, proper unsalted organic butter, full fat organic cheddar), with homemade lentil and vegetable soup. Followed by a pear, and 2 spoons of homemade rice pudding (full fat jersey milk and pudding rice only).

for dinner I’ll likely eat a 2 egg omelette (from our own hens), with kale, peppers, green beans. Followed by some strawberries.

Todaypicard · 02/07/2023 12:56

We generally have organic oat or cashew milk for in tea. And I only drink water or caffeine free rooibos tea.

Quitelikeit · 02/07/2023 14:28

@Todaypicard thats v interesting about the animal studies

Normalky if I diet I would go low carb and essentially when I do that I’m eating very clean

But I found it very hard to have all the ingredients in all of the time.

but even on low carb although I didn’t bloat I found my loss very slow and had stopped enjoying that woe

I much prefer eating clean and a sensible amount of calories, clean foods mostly are very low calorie because they are not packed with sugar

Also interesting about your home made bread as you will know the other stuff is packed to the rafters with nasty ingredients- I am going to get a bread maker for the same reasons

I have read the literature that says the clean stuff even if higher in calories triggers a whole healthier happier response in your body and it’s hormones

Sadly there’s all sorts of misinformation out there and especially like you say on good fats - I have a nice ribeye waiting for tea!

Todaypicard · 03/07/2023 05:40

As anticipated no loss for me this week. Still 74kg! But I’m honestly okay with it. If I start losing again next week, then I know I’m on track.

HawdMeBack · 03/07/2023 07:48

I'm in same boat @Todaypicard. The weight I had lost when I weighed midweek has, as expected, gone back on, and I'm exactly the same weight today as I was last Monday -

SW: 14st 5lbs
CW: 13st 10lbs
GW: 11st

Motivation is started to wane a bit now, need to shake things up as I think it's the repetition that's doing it.

Still 11st 11lbs here! But it took a few years to go on and it’ll take a long time to come off!

I feel so much better tho not eating ultra high processed foods - they really are the devils work!

blueby7 · 03/07/2023 08:23

Morning everyone,

Have had a bit of radio silence here. I've developed sciatica and oh lord, I've had two kids, one a c section, and I e not felt pain like it! It's really put me off weight/health wise as I'm just craving comfort and would always have got that warm happy feeling from food.

@HawdMeBack @Todaypicard and @Quitelikeit I'm in the same boat this morning. Despite weighing on Saturday and being 74.7, I am now back to 75.8.
It almost feels like it's not worth it that it's so slow.

But, we have two choices, give up like before and the weight come back, or, we've made it this far, keep going! Usually I'd quit at this stage but what if we keep going! Imagine how good well feel. I keep asking. Myself which choice do I want to make.

Also as you said, it's taken years to put this weight on, it'll take time to get rid of it.

Also all I want in the world right now is two pieces of buttery peanut butter toast 😩

Ilovedavidmitchell · 03/07/2023 13:19

@blueby7 don't give up!! You will be so glad you didn't in a few months when you see all your hard work paying off. I saw a quote thing on Reddit that said "if you're sick of starting again, stop giving up" which is what I keep telling myself now

So I only weighed myself on Thursday but my partner has now decided he wants to join in as well and do it together. So he weighed himself this morning and I did too so that we can weigh together every Monday. So in the last 4 days I have lost a pound 😊 I am aiming for ANY loss per week. Don't care if it's a pound of half a pound, I just want to see some sort of progress, so I'm happy. It's hard at the min though because I am practically bed bound with a bad knee so trying to eat fewer calories than usual

Todaypicard · 03/07/2023 13:56

Don’t give up! I’ve no intention of giving up! You can do this! Slow and steady and sustainable is the only way. Eat the toast if you want it - but one piece and make sensible choices for the rest of the day

Hubblebubble · 03/07/2023 18:34

There's no reason as to why toast shouldn't be considered a sensible choice. Why not get a nice hunk of sour bread dough with real butter, some peanut butter and chopped bananas? Weight loss is calories in and calories out. Most people ultimately eat less when eating 3 decent meals a day and one snack than trying to live off air and ending up snacking or binging.

Hubblebubble · 03/07/2023 18:35

Atleast, that's what happened me when I thought carbs were the devil

Hubblebubble · 03/07/2023 18:40

Today was
Breakfast: toast with butter and jam. Coffee.
Mix weight training and calisthenics in relative's home gym.
Snack: strawberry yoghurt.
Lunch: homemade chicken breasts and basmati rice seasoned with turmeric and herbs. Cup of tea.
Dinner will be mac and cheese.
All within a calorie deficit if my fitness pal is to be trusted.

Todaypicard · 03/07/2023 18:50

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply that toast and peanut butter wasn’t a sensible choice - it clearly is I entirely agree! I meant that so long as all meals are sensible it’s fine within a balanced diet. I.e don’t follow the toast with pizza and a whole sharing bag of crisps, 3 chocolate bars and a tub of ice cream!

Ilovedavidmitchell · 03/07/2023 18:52

Today for me has been:

Yoghurt and fruit
Carrot and coriander soup
Two rice cakes
A mushroom burger with corn on the cob

1,160 calories. Less than I usually have but I literally haven't moved all day apart from to eat and use the bathroom so I doubt I've burnt hardly anything

Hubblebubble · 03/07/2023 18:57

@Todaypicard Absolutely agree! I really hope I did come across and mean or rude. My own weightless journey has just become so much more successful now I've rethought my attitude towards carbs, and I wanted to help the lady craving some.

Hubblebubble · 03/07/2023 18:57

Didn't!

Todaypicard · 03/07/2023 19:00

No not rude at all don’t worry - you’re totally right in what you say. We have to eat food we like and not demonise anything too much. It needs to be sustainable for the long term - I love so many foods too much to never be able to have them again and a good toast and peanut butter is definitely one of them

Todaypicard · 03/07/2023 22:19

My meals today:

breakfast - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers, an apple.

lunch - very small portion of wholewheat pasta with homemade tomato and aubergine sauce. Sprinkle of cheese. Kale, green beans. Fruit salad of strawberries, satsuma slices and kiwi.

dinner - lentil and vegetable soup, one slice of rye toast, celery sticks.

HawdMeBack · 03/07/2023 22:42

I didn't have breakfast until 11.45am today - Shredded wheat and a banana so skipped lunch. Had a babybel mid afternoon and then homemade lemon chicken and rice for tea. All on all, just over 1400 calories, and that's me done for the day.

My mum actually commented today on my weight loss, said she can see I'm losing which was a great boost. It's made me want to push on. Still 12 weeks until my holiday and i'm doubtful that I'm going to reach my (slightly ambitious) goal weight but then. However, if I can lose 2lb a week between now and then, I'll be down to 12 stone, which is 1 away from where I want to be.

I'm back after a quiet spell. Unsure when I last updated. Still plodding. Weighed today at 10st 6lbs so coming off slowly!

My goal is to be 10st at the beginning of August so a 6lb loss throughout July.

Well done everyone so far. Keep going!

Fuckedthen · 03/07/2023 23:09

God! I've just realised that I've only lost 4lbs throughout June. That's not very motivating.

SW: 150lbs
CW: 146lbs
GW: 140lbs

My actual goal weight is 125/130lbs but keeping the goals small and achievable.

1lb a week is a steady and sustainable loss @Fuckedthen, that's not to be sniffed at! Keep it up.
