I'm just curious what others would think my likely weight is from this picture. I'm 5ft 2 for reference.

Guesses of 10-11-12 stone are ridiculous , and perhaps are indicative of our delusion about obesity and weight.

This ^^

The thread is peak Mumsnet batshittery.

10/11 stone I agree is not right. I've lost about 3 stone due to health issues in the past few months and am now 10.3. Ironically, in many ways I feel much better. All my clothes are way too big for me now.

Exercising doesn’t mean you aren’t morbidly obese.

That is not what I said. What I said was that the dietician thought I would be too big to exercise. She assumed, wrongly, that I would look larger and be encumbered by my weight. I am not. I can exercise.

How old are you OP?

peachgreen · 28/05/2023 22:28

Ahh I feel every word of what you’ve posted OP. I weigh almost the same as you, although I’m 5’7” so my BMI is lower. I used to weigh almost 22 stone and didn’t have a single health problem other than snoring. I could exercise, walk for miles with no problems, my blood pressure and cholesterol were on the healthy side of anything etc etc. Everyone, my doctor included, was surprised when they found out how much I weighed.

Best of luck with your weight loss. It is so tough. But it’s worth it. And you look great, for what it’s worth.

They are April jeans from matalan in petite. I think they are a few years old although I think they still do the same type, but probably in different styles.

Thanks, will have a look

Bodenesque · 28/05/2023 22:29

14.5 stone

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/05/2023 22:30

Cakencookieobsessed · 28/05/2023 22:31

I was going to say about 16/17st. You don't look huge, and some people at that weight look much bigger, but I've been around a similar weight before losing a few stone. I never noticed my weight creeping up and never felt very unhealthy, but it's only since losing a good chunk of the weight I'm realising how much better I feel.

That’s great.

But there’s a lot of work needed diet worse.

Gymmum82 · 28/05/2023 22:41

You look like me before I lost 7 stone. I was about 16 stone then. So my guess would have been around that ballpark. You’ll feel so much better having lost weight

Emotionalsupportviper · 28/05/2023 22:44

15 and a half stones?

Don’t be ridiculous.

AutisticLegoLover · 28/05/2023 22:48

I think it's very difficult to be objective about weight. I can't look at OP's photo and actually see that I'm almost half that size. My brain just won't compute that at all. Although how anyone thought 10/12 stone is beyond me. Maybe some people never weigh themselves and therefore gave no idea about weight.
Well done on your weight loss OP!

What do you think the specialist weight management and dietician are for?

OP posts:
Givemes · 28/05/2023 22:56

My guess is 105-110 kg. (I don't know whats that in stone)
Your body type looks like the ones of those powerful athletes (weight-lifting, judo, javelin, discuss etc) … perhaps thats why you feel like you are fit and not feeling of your weight ?
but , BMI doesn't lie and its on the unhealthy side for sure.
fwiw, you could also check your waist-hip ratio, which is a more accurate measurement than BMI.

SummerSimmer · 28/05/2023 22:59

I disagree with this , you’re either carrying a dangerous amount of weight or your aren’t. Knees don’t care where the fat is stored.
I do understand the risks of an apple shape.

ukgot2pot · 28/05/2023 23:02

I would personally ditch the 'your too big to exercise' bollocks dietician and get your join a gym. Use that money and hire a PT and start investing your time and energy learning about proper nutrition and exercise.

ukgot2pot · 28/05/2023 23:03

you're*

Stravaig · 28/05/2023 23:06

I don't know if this helpful OP, I'm a little out of sync with Mumsnet norms on visualising weight. A quick glance at the photo and it's very clear to me that you're in one of the obese BMI categories. Knowing weight is about health - and you're working on that. But the other thing I notice is your dainty wee feet! So I visualise the rest of you slimmed down in proportion to your feet - and that is inspiring, healthier.

Tigofigo · 28/05/2023 23:06

Some really patronising comments on this thread!

Given your height I would have said about 13 stone tbh.

But then I'm light for my size (not much muscle 😬) so tend to underestimate. I look about a stone heavier than I actually am!

OCarumba · 28/05/2023 23:12

5ft 2? Maybe 11 st?

Yes, excessive visceral fat is more dangerous. Whilst other less lethal factors could contribute to a “high” BMI. For instance, stress, medications, menstrual cycles can all make your weight elevated. But your waist is pure fat other than the organs and connective tissues and skin.
