What weight am I (with picture)?

I'm just curious what others would think my likely weight is from this picture. I'm 5ft 2 for reference.

I was 15.8 a while ago and looked like you...

Mimilamore · 29/05/2023 17:39

But 2 in taller so I'd day around 16 st...

roughtyping · 29/05/2023 18:39

@ThisMustBeMyDream I'm sorry for some of the rude replies. Don't know if people don't know or just don't care how it can make people feel! I can't believe your actual weight, you carry it well. I'm 5ft2 as well, around 14 1/2 stone just now and look much heavier, particularly my legs. How did you manage to get the GP involved?

lljkk · 29/05/2023 19:19

When I measure bust-waist-hips I always measure at the max-min-max points. It feels like that's the only way to be consistent comparing between 2 different people.

fairycupcakes, why do you believe BMI is a "dangerous" concept?

DD has anorexia so I know get to observe an anorexic in action. BMI = 24 or 27 truly isn't the threshold she's obsessing over. Instead I hear excuses about how "hard" it is "for anyone" to ever gain weight, especially to get all the way up to BMI 18.5. This might be fine if she was a 5' nothing wannabe KPOP star... but she's not.

I wouldn't be happy if she were 18 stone, but she might well be healthier if she were 18 stone.

Teenagehorrorbag · 29/05/2023 22:40

AngryBirdsNoMore · 29/05/2023 00:23

@Teenagehorrorbag if you weigh 6.5-7.5 stone you are by no measure ‘fat’!

No sorry, I am not exactly fat. I have a very saggy untoned belly and a lot of back fat. The rest of me isn't too bad and I have slim calves and ankles, and slim wrists and lower arms. But when it was all nice and toned I still weighed the same.

But I am very small framed. My point was just that weight itself seems to be quite random sometimes. I definitely need to lose some inches and tone up - but I'm not sure I would necessarily weigh less. I think we all know what we should be like and how far off we are from that - I don't know that focusing on weight is always that helpful (although obviously if you work on it and lose xx pounds its probably a great motivator)

tunainatin · 29/05/2023 23:01

I thought 12 stone. I'm the same height and 9 and you look quite a bit bigger than me, but with a nice shape and flatish stomach. Surprised by your actual weight!

Hal9001 · 30/05/2023 01:56

NotMyMill · 29/05/2023 02:06

OP, I’d have said about 13-14 stone before I saw your update.

It depends on the person. We are built differently. Op may have a high muscle mass so it might not be purely just fat but generally speaking there are very toned girls I know who are super fit and spend a lot of time in the the gym who are 12-13 stone at a similar height with tiny waists and toned arms and legs etc.

There are not 'healthy and toned women' of 5' 2" who weigh 13 stone unless they're power lifters using steroids.

They certainly don't have tiny anything. A 5' 2" woman at 13 stone of pure muscle would be a beast! She'd be quite scary. She wouldn't be 'tiny' in any way.

I'm not saying that's wrong. I'd be pretty Impressed by a 5' 2" woman at 13 stone of pure muscle.

But she wouldn't be tiny.

Aria999 · 30/05/2023 02:04

I agree weight can be quite surprising.

There was a depressing thread on here with a picture of someone my height and weight who said she was about 2 stone heavier than me and looked slimmer.

It was weird.

Hal9001 · 30/05/2023 02:11

And I do think ideas about weight have become a bit skewed.

I'd say 90% of the women I see at the gym are overweight. I'm overweight really at 10 St 3, and 5' 8" (and a half!), I am slightly overweight.

And I don't have an eating disorder or a messed up relationship with food before anyone says!

I don't think BMI is a good measure. At the top 'acceptable' weight for my height, I think I'd be distinctly chubby. I actually have a very broad frame, so I'm not 'petit' in any way. I could certainly lose 3/4 of a stone and look better. I think that is my middle-age fighting weight.

9 1/2 stone. At 5' 8".

And yes, I did guess OP's weight, she does look about 16 stone.

I'm interested why you asked @ThisMustBeMyDream?

You know what you weigh, you are obviously quite large, you are having clinical help.

Why ask?

Hal9001 · 30/05/2023 02:22

Is it surprising @Aria999?

Body-shape, yes, does affect weight-distribution, but not that much I don't think.

Slimmer hipped women tend to weigh less than wide hipped women. Slimmer hipped women tend to carry weight on their stomachs. Wider hipped women, on their hips and arses.

Sure, wider hipped women probably look better at an overweight point then their slim-hipped counterparts, and may 'carry it better',

BUT there is a point where, overweight is overweight, no matter how it's carried.

I honestly don't judge. I really don't. I like the fact we live I world where all body shapes are acceptable.

And I don't think judgement is helpful for people that do want to change.

I don't think delusion about bodies helps anyone though.

Aria999 · 30/05/2023 02:43

@Hal9001 yep I am a slimmer hipped woman who carries weight on the stomach.

I have a BMI of 22 and I look fine, just slightly envious of others who look good at 11 stone (I start to look like a misshapen sack of potatoes around 9 stone 10

Hal9001 · 30/05/2023 03:06

I'm absolutely sure you don't look like a sack of spuds at 9 stone 10. However, I do know that at 11 stone and 5' 8" I did have unevenly distributed fat, that I wasn't happy about, whereas a wide hipped woman could have been my height and weight and have had a smoother silhouette.

So OP does have a smooth silhouette but is definitely overweight but people on this thread have guessed a much lower weight or say 'you carry it well', they mean she has no definable rolls of fat, as a women with slim hips and small breasts would at the same weight and height.

I have very small breasts, so I can never carry any weight there. I do have a very broad ribcage and shoulders and very slim legs. If I put any weight on, it goes all on the torso so can look imbalanced very easily.

I think this is why these conversations happen. Because people do carry weight differently, and it's harder for more 'apple' shaped women to take on extra weight.

I saw a woman at the gym today, she was tiny, maybe 5' and probably 7 and a half stone, but she had a distinct 'roll' above her leggings, and no-one could accuse her of being 'fat', OP is more than twice her size and has no roll.

Very few people these days actually have a smooth silhouette. Really.

But it's easier to have one if you're pretty young and wide-hipped.

I can't say I have seen any particularly rude replies but even if there are the OP asked people to guess her weight. She, surely, would have realised some people would guess a higher weight than she is.

It's the posters saying she only looks 10, 11 or 12 stone that are doing her no favours as she clearly does not look that slim.

You are NOT overweight at 10s 3 and 5"8"...you're firmly in the middle of the healthy category. Just saying!

Hal9001 · 30/05/2023 11:01

@Booklover40, I AM a little bit fleshy at that weight and height. I really am. I think the middle of BMI is 'a bit fleshy'

Really, the majority of people should be towards the lower end to be lean and healthy.

As I said, I don't really have much in the way of breasts, or hips, until menopause I spent much of my life at around 8 1/2 stone. BMI would put me at underweight. I wasn't underweight, I was lean and narrow, I have bony wrists, ankles and clavicle. I don't have much flesh on my bones, and any weight I do put on goes straight to my midsection.

For women of my shape, extra weight does not look good.

OP obviously has a very different shape, weight is evenly distributed in a very female way, extra weight looks better. I couldn't imagine what I'd look like at 16 stone.

SallyWD · 30/05/2023 11:18

Last time I was weighed at the doctors (about 5 years ago) my BMI was 24. Fine, I thought! But the doctor told me that these days they consider a BMI of 24 to be a little too heavy. She said it's best to aim for a BMI of 22, which she said is ideal. My BMI is now 22 and I feel better. I'm 5 ft 8, around 10 stone 4lbs. Generally look fairly slim. I could lose a few pounds to get the really slim look but I definitely feel I'm at a healthy weight for me.

Kanaloa · 30/05/2023 11:27

People do go absolutely wild on these threads. I think all and any weight threads on here attract a certain group who have possibly ED or are weight obsessive. The compulsive listing off of height/weight/BMI followed by constant statements about being fat at 6 stone gives the same energy as ‘pro ana’ blogs that used to be common when I was young.

bakewellbride · 30/05/2023 11:29

Nothing to add other than I think you look lovely op x

herewego9 · 30/05/2023 14:05

I see quite the opposite @Kanaloa, a load of posters rushing to say 16 stone looks great and they can't believe it etc.

Oh yes that too. Or people saying they think the picture in the op shows someone who is 10 stone.

But actually I don’t think they’re the opposite, I think they’re the same. If you think op looks 10 stone then it’s no surprise that you think 10 stone is fat because you obviously have a really warped idea of what 10 stone looks like.

But the obsessive I’m 5’4 and weigh xyz comes out in every single thread even tangentially related to weight. And it’s never actually related to the op’s question.

Whu · 30/05/2023 14:13

Op you look good, have lovely clothes and a nice bedroom. It’s great you are working on yourself too - sounds like lots of good things to me!

As an aside, I’m also mid thirties and from the uk and I’m shocked everyone on this thread has used stones! I’ve weighed myself in kg my whole adult life, gym weights are in kg etc. I would have commented a weight in kg, it seems that is really unusual?!

fireflyloo · 30/05/2023 14:16

15 stone, give it take a few pounds either side.

Haven't got a clue what kg means other than bags of sugar.

I can't visualise weight in Kg apart from flour etc. I'm in my 40s and it's always been a cross between metric and imperial measurements. Height, weight and distance imperial. Length/width/depth either/or. Cooking ingredients, grams, kg and , ml. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I accept younger generations will go metric but in saying that our road network is still in Miles!
