My son needs to lose 2 stone in 7 weeks to join the police.
Whats the best way to achieve this? I am thinking meal replacement plans like lighter life or similar. Please help with ideas. tia

I don't think it's possible to lose 4lb a week consistently, but I've heard people have reasonable success with Exante meal replacements.

Does he need to do a physical ability assessment in 7 weeks? He might struggle to train for it and minimise calorie intake simultaneously.

bigknickersbigknockers · 25/05/2023 14:42

Hes passed the fitness test easily but needs to lose 2 stone and I thought there would be some meal replacement plan that would help.

Any meal replacement will work but it will be really unpleasant and difficult.

Useruser1 · 25/05/2023 16:12

How heavy is he?

20 to 18 stone might be doable, 14 to 12 not so much.

Whatever he does won't be fun or great for his health

Partytastic · 25/05/2023 16:14

800 fast is probably the best option. They do meal replacements but obviously it’s not the best way to go about it. Even following this 2 stone in 7 weeks is a big ask.

bigknickersbigknockers · 25/05/2023 16:16

hes 20 stone

Counting calories is the only way to do it imo. Have him download the free version of MyFitnessPal, enter his weight/height/age etc & it will show him how many calories he can consume in a day. Cut out snacks. Only eat his 3 meals a day inputting everything he eats.
Plus if he exercises even just walking daily & doesn't eat back the calories he earns from this, the weight will drop off faster.
Drink lots of water & don't use your calories on drinks (sugar/milk/lattes etc).
Best of luck!

Fast 800. He needs to track his macros in MFP or similar and ensure he is getting at least 60g of protein a day to minimise muscle loss.

AnonAnom940 · 25/05/2023 16:53

Count calories and exercise more. Use my fitness pal

Movinghouseatlast · 26/05/2023 10:21

Will be be able to stick with it though? He will be hungry on meal replacements.

Perhaps get him Mindful Chef meals for the evening? It's low carb, no dairy and calorie counted. Very tasty food with no bad additives

Or throw some money at It and buy M and S ready meals, count the calories in them so he doesn't go over say 1500. 3 of them a day.

BodyKeepingScore · 26/05/2023 10:23

Another vote for Fast800 here, it doesn't feel as restrictive as some other plans. The recipes available online are super helpful too.

AssertiveGertrude · 26/05/2023 10:23

I’d drop down to 1000 cals a day and up his exercise massively (but being careful)

my fitness pal

lots of fish and veg for the main meal

AssertiveGertrude · 26/05/2023 10:23

He can totally do it I think

MumVUnicorns · 26/05/2023 10:30

He can do this! My husband was 18 stone 8lbs 5 weeks ago and started Weight watchers (online) he has lost almost 2 stone already.
He does run up to 6 miles 5 times a week in addition to this and doesn't use all the additional weekly points the Weight Watchers App gives you on top of your daily allowance.
Good luck

cathyandclare · 26/05/2023 10:32

Strict low carb could do it.

Hey, good morning. Has the force he's joining said he needs to lose the weight?

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 26/05/2023 10:45

I honestly cannot see how anyone can lose 2 stone in 7 weeks in a way that won't harm their health. Maybe he needs to delay applying to the police?

Thebigblueballoon · 26/05/2023 10:49

It’s going to be a massive struggle, but it’s about doable if he sticks to a very strict diet. I’d recommend strict Keto (sticking to under 20g of carbs per day). It means surviving on protein, healthy fats and vegetables only (absolutely no bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cake, sweets and loads more). It works very well though.

Yes the force says he needs to lose the weight. He is going low carb and low sugar, fish chicken vegetables and salads at the moment while excecising like mad.

I lost half a stone in 10 days by cutting out carbs, dairy, sugar, caffeine. Breakfast was a smoothie with almond milk, fruit, 100% peanut butter or almond butter and a mixture of flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, linseeds etc.
A fruit snack if needed, lunch was salad with salmon or tuna, balsamic vinegar and avocado oil. For tea I'd have a portion of lean meat, ie. chicken breast with beetroot, mushrooms, cabbage or greens, carrots. I didn't feel hungry at all but it was hard going to cut out all of that for 10 days. After that time I started having dairy and caffeine again and have slowly crept in sugary snacks but the weight has held off thanks to smoothies for breakfast and the healthy evening meals.

Good luck to your son!

AndTheSurveySays · 27/05/2023 13:47

He could lose that amount in two months if he uses a VLCD meal replacement plan eg Newyou, Cambridge, lighter life

greenspaces4peace · 27/05/2023 13:55

Fast 800 ONLINE meal planning, real food vs liquid.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 27/05/2023 14:02

As above fast 800 is going to be the only real option here. So ditch carbs, high protein, green veg and lots of water.

Will he need to do some kind of physical at the end of the 2 weeks because he will be losing muscle as well as fat and he's not likely to be feeling his best.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 27/05/2023 14:03

Sorry 7 weeks not 2 weeks,
