I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

Day 56

Breakfast
Black Coffee
Café Crème
Croissant with butter
Orange Juice pressé
Tartine

Lunch :
Saint Germain Spritz
Cold Pea soup
Chicken and parsnip purée
Rhubarb and Chantilly coupe
Half a pint of rosemary white beer

Snack ;
Blueberries
2 Lemon vodka biscuits
1 glass of Rosé
Fizzy water

Supper:
Water

Had a lovely day out in Chantilly with a friend and her husband - for old times sake we had breakfast at a bistrot we used to have breakfast together at years and years ago before work when we had offices in the same area. Then got to Chantilly and walked from the station to the Chateau. Saw a dressage show. Had a lovely lunch then walked through the gardens saw the kangaroos and then went to the Chateau. We then stopped for a drink on the way back to the station and all of a sudden realized that we were about to miss the last train back to Paris and that we had 2 choices

  1. Run the 2km to the station as fast as we could (2km and we had 13 minutes)
  2. Cough up for what would have been an extortionate taxi back to Paris.

And so we ran as fast as we could and we got the train by the skin of our teeth, it was at the platform when the station came into view ... by the time we sat down on the train I honestly thought I was going to be sick and it took most of the journey for me to feel alright - but we saved 200€ + the taxi would have cost so it was most definitely worth it. And even if I felt like I was dying (from being out of breath and from the shame of both my friends barely breaking a sweat while I was obviously suffering) I'm so proud I managed it in Birkenstock with a long dress ... 6 weeks ago I never could have!

I walked ( and ran!) 29 155 steps in all which is about 23km/14 miles.

And here are my #sundaypictures

I'm not on Saxenda (got some rybelsus!) but I'm so invested in @Saxendastarter and her wonderful French life, this is one of my favourite threads ever 😀

Pineapplepansy · 18/06/2023 08:37

@2kids2catsnolife I am on Rybelsus too (we have a separate thread) but I also love this thread as well and love reading about @Saxendastarter 's life and seeing the beautiful photos. Rybelsus and Saxenda do the same thing as far as I can see - it's just tablets rather than an injection. I'm nearly three weeks in and love having a life that isn't just about eating!

Day 57

Breakfast
Black Coffee

Lunch :
Cold courgette soup
leek and vinaigrette
boiled egg and mayo
quiche
augbergine parmigiana
orange salad
crème caramel
biscuit
coffee

Snack ;
Saint Germain spritz

Supper:
Feta and tomato galette

Woke up late met friend for lunch then went for a quick swim with her (500m) had drinks at contrescarpe and then got caught in a storm walking back so we both stopped for crepes. Proud of myself because after I got home and the storm stopped I went back out for a walk to make it to 10k steps. I’m going to try and do 10k every day this week.

Welcome @Pineapplepansy and @2kids2catsnolife I hope your Rybelsus journeys are going well.

I've upped to 1.8... wow.....it's really working now. Went out for lunch today, really struggled to finish my meal, felt nauseous ever since.

Saxendastarter · 18/06/2023 21:58

@BeagleMum1 I hope thé nausea gets better soon. Great that it’s working so well for you.

I hope everyone has a happy week ahead and hope you all enjoy the summer solstice.

How do people who regularly hit 10k steps a day do it ?

I walked to the office this morning - about 4km and I’m at 6k steps but that took an hour.

how do people find time to walk 2 hours a day ?

I'm going to do first jab tonight. Have just had the referral from my GP through to the weight management service, she did warn it's a long waiting list and weirdly her system says they don't offer lirglutamide (except they do, MIL referred from same GP surgery has been on it for months). They are the only ones who can prescribe it for weight management on the NHS so that doesn'takes sense, which my GP agreed, but she did say if I can't get it via weight management we'll try endocrinology.
I did ask what happened if my BMI dropped below 35 between now and being seen as I hope to continue losing, she agreed it would be silly if they don't accept me as I definitely meet the criteria at the point of referral but she didn't know.
Have told DH am going to go for it and if if I can get support through the NHS then great but will try on my own anyway, at least my GP is in support and aware so I feel I have proper oversight as she has access to all my medical notes.
Finally going to upgrade from lurker to participant, wish me luck with the side effects!

@Everdecreasingcircumferences welcome aboard!

Fuffedoff · 19/06/2023 14:06

So I've lost 7.5kg over the past 6 weeks which I'm happy with.

That includes eating out 3x over the weekend for my birthday and a BBQ yesterday.

I haven't taken my saxenda for two days because of celebrations but wanting to get back on it today.

I've been looking at doing a mix of different approaches to see if it helps balance everything out for me in the long run.

I'd like to lose another 7kg in 6-8 weeks if possible. I will just have to behave myself and try that extra little bit harder.

Glorfindels · 19/06/2023 15:50

Happy Monday Everyone.

@Saxendastarter I struggle to hit that many steps too, unless it is a day we specifically go walking. Though I too am finding that more enjoyable and much easier. Chantilly looks beautiful, sounds like you had a lovely time.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences best of luck!

@Fuffedoff Well done on your loss so far.

@BeagleMum1 Happy summer solstice to you too.

Had quiet one this weekend, and stuck to plan. DP on night shift- which always messes the weekend up.

High motivation as Hen Do1 is being booked (beach resort destination) and I am going to be the oldest, chubbiest & least glamourous by some margin. Basically, I have 28 weeks at 2lb loss per week = 56lbs Target by 1st Jan 24.

This weeks target is to hit the 2.5 Stone off (but it is Birthdays galore so may struggle) and to stay positive with an eye on the end result.

Have a fantastic week everyone.

Radish12 · 19/06/2023 21:33

Hi everyone! I struggle with step counts too, partly because I'm tall so covering a certain distance for me would take way fewer steps than for someone 5'1", but I do have a very sedentary job. I purposely walked to two different places today that I'd usually drive to, AND did a gym class, and still haven't reached 4000 steps 😬

Pleased to say my prescription repeat went through without any kind of hitch and I have my pens safely in the fridge (existing customer at Boots). It is certainly concentrating the mind knowing that supply could run out at any time though - no time for dilly-dallying!

I weighed in exactly the same this week. A bit disappointing as I'm certainly feeling slimmer "in myself", just trying to keep the faith and hope it shows on the scales soon.

Saxendastarter · 19/06/2023 22:52

Day 58

Breakfast
Black Coffee
2 Kiri

Lunch :
Gnocchi with tomato and mozzarella
black coffee

Snack
5 jelly beans

Supper:
3 gin and tonics
1raspberry vodka and fizzy water

So I walked to the office - and a bit of the way back but I went shopping and bumped into friends at the supermarket and ended up having drinks with them.

I managed 13 100 steps but it took a lot of time.

@Radish12 happy to hear that you too struggle with steps ! I walked for over 2 hours - an hour to work and then 20 minutes at lunch and then a bit of the way home before shopping and getting a bus because the heavy shopping + the 3 g&t meant I didn’t think I could walk home ..

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 19/06/2023 22:55

@Glorfindels i think I might have to do an average over the week and walk a lot more on the weekends when I have time to get to an average of 10k a day too. But I am enjoying walking.

Im open to podcast suggestions from anyone as I’m enjoying listening and walking.

Heading to bed soon as I hope I can walk to the office tomorrow and we’re an hour ahead so it’s midnight here allready !

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 19/06/2023 22:59

And @Radish12 I Hope you’re not too down because of the maintaining - I know it’s difficult to cope with and that knowing that it’s delayed gratification doesn’t really help … but here’s an image of my graph if you want to feel less alone … I got myself some flowers to help me feel more positive !

Just had first jab, didn't grow any extra toes and I'm still breathing. Managed to prick my finger chucking the needle in the shapes bin despite having the outer lid on but otherwise it went fine.
Scales have gone up and down this weekend but I managed to keep under the 100kg mark - really hoping I dont see triple figures again but who knows, weight loss is never linear is it. I went dancing on Friday night and did over 20,000 steps in 3 hours (was such good fun!), but today I have slogged in the garden and only clocked up 7,000.
Going to have a herbal tea and make a cherry coulis to go with the yoghurt I made yesterday, then bed.
Thanks all for the encouragement, I've taken the plunge.

Saxendastarter · 19/06/2023 23:54

@Everdecreasingcircumferences in French we say “ Elle est des nôtres ! “ well done for the first jab.

Morning @Saxendastarter , morning everyone . I struggle to get steps in . My daily commute is to far to walk and to impractical to use public transport and get off a few stops early . If I don’t purposefully take a walk in the evening I do about 2000 steps a day if I’m lucky . I can’t walk at lunch time for practical reasons ( as well as being in dental scrubs which have to be changed and discarded for a new set when I get back , just a faff and a lot of washing ! )

Well done on your first injection @Everdecreasingcircumferences . Wishing you well on your first week .

Also wishing everyone a good week with good results . We’re worth it . 💐

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 20/06/2023 09:08

I know what you mean @Footgoose , I'm in an office based role and due to where I work it's not practical to go for a walk at lunch or walk part of commute, so I have to really make an effort to get more than 3,000 steps in.
It's worse on the days I can work from home as although in theory I could go for a run I'm just so busy all day that I do even less steps (am mumsnettingwhile I eat breakfast waiting for my computer to connect to VPN and load) - at least at the office I have the walk from the car park.

You're right though, we really are worth it. I was so pleased my GP is fully onboard - she's watched her patients struggle for years and now that there's finally something that actually works (and has been around for a for few years now) she can't understand why access to it is so restricted.

Sotiredmjmmy · 20/06/2023 09:57

Checking in at end of week 5 (but feels much longer!)

I am now down 19.5lbs, and have been on holiday in that time so happy with that.

It’s slowed more this week (1.5lb loss) but I’ve been thinking need to up dose as had been feeling hungry but also balancing that think I’m under eating too much… so was going to up it last night but then wham dinner last night defeated me when I really didn’t expect it too, was like a slap round the face reminder that this really is working so sticking with 1.8 for now and will see how this week goes

Ive still got 3 stone to go 😬

Footgoose · 20/06/2023 12:02

@Sotiredmjmmy . I’m Also coming to the end of week 5 with a near identical weight loss ( 20 lbs and a 1/2 ) . It’s a good feeling , so much so I forget I have a way to go yet . I’ve wondered about the under eating theory too, makes sense and my daughter says I will have stalled my metabolism by eating less than 1000 cals a day . But weight loss has slowed to 1 - 2 lbs a week so eating more makes me nervous. After this set of pens , I’m not sure I’ll be allowed any more / be available . I’m on maximum dose and my BMI is currently 27.5 . So not far off “healthy weight” . I do need to increase my exercise , trying to go for a walk in the evenings but do t always manage it, something often crops up that keeps me in my bum even longer. 😂

Saxendastarter · 20/06/2023 15:40

Fuck - I've just had a binge.

I didn't manage to walk to the office this morning because I had too many meetings and there just wasn't time.

I had black coffee and macadamia nuts for breakfast and a chicken salad for lunch. and walked round campus with nice gastric band colleague whilst eating from a tuppleware.

I left the office about 2 hours ago because I realized that from 5pm till 11pm I have zooms and that If I wanted to have a bit of a break and not still be in the office at midnight I better leave to work from home because I also have a 6am zoom tomorrow (the joys of working with both China and the US East coast).

On the way back I stupidly stopped at a store thats probably a bit our equivalent of Wilko in the UK because it was open to pick up some random bits ... And it just went downhill.

I think I'm close to burning out at work. I need to see a doctor.

I had half a massive packet of marshmallows ( about 150g +/- 500 calories ) - they weren't even nice and were feeling sickly in my mouth but I kept shoving them in even though its horrifically hot and stuffy here - I then had 2 Nutella B-ready bars( 230 calories ) and a massive glass of apricot juice (200 calories). I feel quite sick. I'm not going to have time for a walk this evening if I want to sleep and I'm only at 5300 steps for today so I've also already failed my 10k steps a day goal for this week.

The scales were back up at 89.4kg this morning.

I'm going to try and cancel the latest meeting this evening but we're working to a crazy deadline that was unfeasible to start off with anyway so I can at least get a break.

It's working like this that has in part caused me to gain 40kg in three years. I just don't think I can do it anymore. It's not healthy and I don't think the financial reward is worth it. I'd rather have the time to wash my own knickers than the money to pay my cleaning lady to do it.
