I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

This study was the first randomized controlled trial designed to compare the effect of MET monotherapy versus MET plus LIRA therapy mainly focusing on gonadal profiles in overweight patients with PCOS. Our results demonstrated that both MET monotherapy and MET plus LIRA therapy improved E2, SHBG and FAI, whereas only MET plus LIRA therapy improved LH, FSH, Prog and TT more effectively than baseline. Additionally, MET plus LIRA therapy was more effective than MET monotherapy in improving serum LH, Prog, TT, SHBG, and FAI levels after the 12-week treatment. We also found that both MET plus LIRA therapy and MET monotherapy improved menstrual cycles, anthropometric parameters, and glucose metabolism with no significant differences between the two groups.

So much amazing information from you all . Thank you . @BinnityBoo , I’m tempted to have a few extra calories tonight , might give it a whirl . Been a long week. 😊

Hi Everyone,

Apologies for being a bit absent the last week or so- work/life got a bit hectic. Emerging from the chaos into a gorgeous sunny weekend.

I've had a skim read and just want to say we'll done to everyone for sticking with it & for the losses.

The article about alcohol intake is interesting as I have completely gone off it. I spoke to a dietitian recently & they were fully supportive of obesity being treated as an illness, as it can have knock on health benefits for other co-morbities.

I have had to switch suppliers to get my next lot of pens, which has been a pain. I'm worried about a shortage too, I've got 5 on the way & a full one in the fridge, at least another 6wks covered.

3.6lbs off this week, which takes me just over the 2 Stone mark. I'm pleased with that & feeling motivated. Determined to be beach body ready by summer (2024!)

Saxendastarter · 09/06/2023 17:53

@Glorfindels I can't remember how long you've been on Sax ?

Thats an amazing loss! Good that you have a few pens left - are you on the max dose ?

I read your user name wrong the first time and so every time I read it now I think of ...

@Saxendastarter I love a bit of S&G, it would probably be a good theme for me!
I've been on it for 7 weeks, and I'm taking 2.4ml as it seems to be working still.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 09/06/2023 20:02

I'm still having trouble getting mine. Boots have let me down. I'm trying health express but the earliest they can deliver is 13th June, but I go away that day so I've had to select my first day back. I have enough to last on my 1.2 dose (so long as I don't need to increase!) until 26th, and I get home on 21st. Cutting it fine. May have to go back down to 0.6 as I don't think I'd cope off it yet.
I still have the order in with boots, but they said they can't get it yet and don't know when (the store collection, spoke to the pharmacist there). So I haven't cancelled. I'm hoping between them I might get at least something 😪.

Footgoose · 09/06/2023 21:09

@ThisMustBeMyDream . Have you tried Lloyd . They have stock back in as of yesterday .

ThisMustBeMyDream · 09/06/2023 21:13

Yep, they won't take on new customers. 😬

Hello all, I'm down 3.5lbs this week which I'm delighted with - that's the first stone gone. I have been tracking everything I've eaten and I've exercised every day and it seems to be working.

I was getting slightly worried about availability after reading comments here and on Facebook. Luckily I ordered five pens last time (must have been feeling flush!) so I still have three in the fridge and my current one which is only about 1/3 used. I thought about trying to order more but I only got the last lot about five weeks ago so it'll be obvious I don't need them yet, and I don't want to contribute to the shortage by panic buying either. On Boots online there's a list of "priority stores" which will continue to stock it, and you can search by postcode to check whether your local one has stock in. Mine does so I feel slightly reassured. I'll probably start the process of ordering when I start my next pen. What worries me now is that since my BMI has fallen below 30, will they still prescribe it?

I am going to a party tonight and have decided to drive as it's a bit of a way out, and I can feel myself trying to fight off a tooth infection so I don't really want to have a drink feeling like this. So I'm saving calories and ££ doing that, but I am shy in social situations so I just hope I can enjoy myself without any Dutch courage!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Saxendastarter · 10/06/2023 20:23

@Radish12 Congrats on that first stone ! I hope you have a lovely sober party. Let us know how it went.

I forget to do my injection this morning as a friend called at 7 am sharp as she was waiting in a&e 5 minutes just down the road ( like 3 minute walk) with her daughter (who will be fine) and needed a drop off of water, a pillow, breakfast, baby wipes, charger etc because they'd spent most of the night there. I went and dropped everything off then went straight to hers so I could look after her son so her husband could go and "relay" her. Then took her son out to meet other friends with children for the morning so she could sleep. It was really nice because she told me I could have a "yes day" with her son. So we got ice cream (well he did ) at 10am and multiple rides on the "manège" at the Jardin des plantes and he was amazed when he though he was pushing his luck and asked for bonbons from the boulangerie and I let him spend 1 whole euro on sweets .... Met up with mum and other friends and had rosé and saucisson and cheese before doing boring Saturday stuff. Going to the puces tomorrow with other friends. Will not forget injection !!!!

Day 52

Breakfast
Milky coffee x 2
Sugar free Squash

Lunch :
Rosé ( 3 glasses)
Saucisson
Truffle brie

Supper:
Gaspacho
lots of water
lots of squash
Large grilled chicken salad with cumin yogurt dressing

@Radish12 . My BMI is 28.2 and I was given my repeat prescription from Lloyds . I didn’t fib to get them . I don’t know when they will stop prescribing but I’ve assumed when BMI goes below 25.

@Saxendastarter . That sounds like a lovely day considering it started with the worry of a little one in A and E . I love the sound of a yes day . Wish I’d had more of them with my children before they grew up .

Ive been feeling hungry so I decided to follow the guide lines and up my dose to the full 3 today. It’s a very foodie weekend and I didn’t want to blow it . 3 is a huge difference ! Could barely eat my lunch ( salad and quiche - I scraped the filling out of the pasty case , left the coleslaw ) . We then went to an amazing ice cream shop , ( real gelato in the middle of Lincolnshire ! ) . I had one scope in a tub and couldn’t finish it . This evening I poured myself a GandT and again just couldn’t stomach it . I actually didn’t want it. Made it out of habit more than anything , then poured it away .

Tomorrow , we are gathering at our house, all 16 members of the family . It’ll be our first full family gathering since my husbands brother died. We thought we would get it out the way so to speak . I’m not looking forward to it . Not a party but we are going to fire up the pizza oven and get on with it .

Saxendastarter · 11/06/2023 20:08

Hi all, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. @Footgoose i hope you had at least an okay time.

Day 53

Breakfast
Milky coffee
Sugar free Squash
greek yogurt with jam and walnuts

Lunch :
double expresso
à cannelé de bordeaux
ginger beer

Supper:
a Coke Zero
chicken tenders
6 chips ( didn’t want them)
lemon cookies

Lovely pics @Saxendastarter - I'm off to a flea market this Saturday but I don't think it'll be as good as that!

I was starting to feel the chatter a lot yesterday and found myself snacking a lot (on ice cream and chocolate biscuits, not apples...) so I upped my dose last night to 1.8 +5 clicks. I've never tried a partial increase like that before but I think it must be working as I woke up in the night with my heart racing as I always do when I increase (thankfully it only lasts one night).

It has reminded me though that I'm going to need to work on my mental relationship with food if I don't want to regain all the weight when I come off the Sax. There's a podcast called Brain Over Binge which I find really interesting - she talks about neuroplasticity and how the only thing making you binge is the urge to do so, and if you can resist it enough times then your brain will reprogram itself and you won't get the urge anymore. She does make it sound very simple, but maybe it IS simple??

*after typing all that out I've remembered that not everyone on here will have binge issues but I certainly do and it's the only reason I'm overweight - I exercise and my meals are fine, but I can eat a multipack of crisps and a massive 200-300g chocolate bar every night, night after night. Anyway it might be helpful for someone.

Thanks for the BMI info @Footgoose , I hope yesterday went better than expected.

CiderJabs · 12/06/2023 20:05

Feeling a bit down in the dumps. Think I'm hormonal and I've had a migraine for 3 days. And the scales haven't moved in 5 days (unless I count 0.5lb up). I've not been eating a lot but I'm also craving chocolate again so I've upped to 1.2. Let's see what tomorrow brings. It's 3 weeks tomorrow since I started it and so far I've lost half a stone. I was happy with it last week, not so happy now!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/06/2023 20:25

@CiderJabs today was my 5th week weigh in and I've gained 1lb! I've watched the scales move up and down the same 1lb all week. I'm not disheartened as similar happened week 3, where on weigh in day I happened to make it to a 1.5lb loss. But then week 4 it just dropped off again and I lost 5lb. Not doing anything differently. The body just needs time to adjust to the losses. Trust the process if it is otherwise working. I'm still struggling to get 1200 cals in. Yesterday I couldn't eat at all until 6pm for dinner and it was about 750 cals. That was all I could manage all day. I had some milk eventually to get some extra cals in.
I go on holiday tomorrow, so I won't know if I get that big loss this week. I also know I will be trying to enjoy a little more than I can at the minute. We shall see! I'll be interested to see what has happened on my return! Also hoping to be able to poo properly ffs! Twice a week at best which doesn't help weigh in days!

Saxendastarter · 12/06/2023 21:31

Day 54

Breakfast
Coffee
Sugar free Squash

Lunch :
Gaspacho and grilled chicken
Water

Supper:
Grilled chicken salad
Gaspacho
A kiri
Some chocolate
Water
Squash
Vodka and fizzy water

CiderJabs · 12/06/2023 22:47

Thanks @ThisMustBeMyDream - I know what you mean, it's just hard to keep positive when the scales refuse to move. I'm also off on holiday on Friday so I'm not expecting a loss this week.
What dose are you on?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/06/2023 23:00

I'm on 1.2, not needed to increase beyond that so far.
I'll do a final weigh in tomorrow morning and see if anything has shifted. I doubt it though!

Saxendastarter · 13/06/2023 06:22

Hi all,

I'm quite demotivated. The scale have been going up and down between 89.9 and 90.6 so I seem to have put back on kg since last week and haven't "lost" anything for 2 weeks. I'm on the 3mg dose and am trying to move more and make healthier choses and drink less. I'm a bit fed up and down because FPOTM is away for another 2 weeks. And at this rate there is no way I'll be at 85kg by the end of June which was my goal. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard. I'm trying to look forward to all the little things I have planned and not let myself get too down because of work. This weekend I'm going to Chantilly with a very old friend and her husband and I know we will walk a lot as they are great walkers. Then at the end of June I'm going glamping in Fontainebleau before going to Boston for work and when I get back from Boston we're going to Malta with FPOTM for 4 days to stay with friends of friends who've opened an b&b there. I'm hanging on to these little things to try and see the "good to come" rather than fixating on the scales but to be honest I'm rather down in the dumps. So all my solidarity @CiderJabs and @ThisMustBeMyDream . @Radish12 I also have binge issues so I'm going to seek out that podcast. Thankyou.

OP posts:
CiderJabs · 13/06/2023 10:30

It's so hard to find the balance between how you look and what the scales tell you. I never believe it when I hear someone with weight issues who says they don't care about the scales.

I'm definitely hormonal. Ate a load of chocolate last night and didn't feel sick or full. So I think increasing the dose was the right decision. Scales up another 0.5lb today so it better be period related!

I'm disappointed in myself. Up until last night I had not snacked or eaten crap in the evening and like some of you, I clearly still have an urge to binge which I need to learn to control or I'll end up back at my original weight.

BinnityBoo · 13/06/2023 11:09

@Saxendastarter beautiful pics! The 'yes day' sounds amazing, I need one of those! Also such an interesting article about the link between saxenda and hormones! Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down in the dumps, it's really tough to keep your head in the right place when the scales don't move.

@Radish12 I love a podcast, so I will definitely be giving that one a listen. Thanks for the recommendation! I am a self confessed binge eater, it's what got me to this state in the first place. I haven't binged since being on saxenda which is pretty incredible for me and I'm hoping my time on saxenda will 'reset' my brain.

@CiderJabs Hope you have a lovely holiday. I've just finished my first period while on saxenda and did have some of the same urges you've had, I buy skinny whip bars from Aldi or B&M and they really hit the spot for only like 80 calories - or I have a little teaspoon of nutella and that seems to do the trick. Try not to be too hard on yourself, we're in this for the long haul and one day isn't going to ruin all of your progress. I've found it helpful to reflect on those moments to understand what my triggers are and make note of it, so in the future I'm more prepared.
