Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

Thank you. Nausea does still disappear if I eat. Bowels seem to have calmed down and shivers not as bad.
I've just had my first chat with Manual coach. I'm not sure I got told anything I hadn't already heard on here. Eat little and often, keep hydrated, nausea and bowel problems are all normal, it'll wear off, keep moving. Don't expect any appetite suppression until you're in month 3, don't compare yourself to others. Speak to you in 2 weeks. That's it really.

Fraaahnces · 20/04/2023 17:32

I’m picking mine up tomorrow. Can’t wait.

Here are a couple of injection tips.

Unless you are really skinny (If you are, you probably don’t need Ozempic for weight loss!) don’t squeeze the skin as it encourages bruising. 90’ angle unless you are super skinny. (See what I said before)

Most important BEVEL UP! (See photos) the needle is designed to go in sharply and cleanly, doing as little damage as possible to your cells. If it doesn’t go in at the correct angle, it can tear at your skin causing pain, bleeding and bruising.

Take a deep breath and while you are breathing out, inject. If you are anxious, try gently wiggling your big toes at the same time.

Pulling the needle out is also important. Don’t just yank it out. Try and remember the angle it went in on and remove it the same way.

Rotate the site to the other side of the body for the next shot - make a note, keep a tab?

Best of luck!

Have a headache for 2 days now - living on pain killers

Second injection just done, went for the thigh again

I was tempted to weigh in this morning as a week since completed 1st injection but my usual weigh in day is Saturday so i held off

Franklin2000 · 20/04/2023 21:16

I’ve done it!! I was so nervous putting the needle in for some reason but I didn’t feel a thing, so much so that I thought it had just got smushed into my thigh and not pierced the skin 😂. Quite excited now, seems like such a small dose to do anything really so let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Saxendastarter · 20/04/2023 21:29

I did my first injection this morning and now have a splitting headache. A part from drinking lots of water and taking paracetamol is there anything else that helps?

MedievalMadness · 20/04/2023 22:31

Saxendastarter. Hope your headache wears off soon. I took mine at 7pm in the hope I might sleep through any unpleasant side effects. I think maybe eating regularly, painkillers and water is probably the best you can do. But on the other thread there’s more experienced PPs who may be able to suggest something else.

Franklin2000. I was the same last week with my first injection. Couldn’t feel the needle go in and was convinced I’d not done it or done it wrong. Good luck and hope no side effects. My only one was feeling fuller faster from the first day and that seems to have lasted all week. Second injection tomorrow and hoping it goes as well. That’s the thing at this stage - not knowing what to expect.

Overitalready. Good luck with your weight on Saturday and hope your headache wears off soon.

Fraances. Thanks for the injection technique advice. Had never heard of a bevel and good idea to make a note of each injection site so you can rotate without forgetting.

Hi all - I've done my second injection today and am excited to be moving forward. I've felt a little nauseous over the last couple of days - after saying earlier on this thread that I hadn't, but it seems to have kicked in now. Not awful, and I feel like I can cope with being a little bit nauseous if that what it takes to help me lose the weight I need to.

I definitely don't want to snack as much as usual. And I'm exercising too. My biggest problem has always been too many glasses of white wine - which then leads to more snacking - and I think my appetite for that is also decreasing, which might be one of the best results possible.

Twilightstarbright · 21/04/2023 06:52

@Luckingfovely i had nausea for the first time yesterday after my second dose. It seems to have passed this morning though.

Silver lining of an autoimmune disease is that I already inject myself weekly/fortnightly so I’m very used to it. The ozempic needle is tiny and small so I can see how it’s easy to feel like it’s not gone in.

Saxendastarter · 21/04/2023 06:54

Also just done my second injection ( saxenda, daily). Hoping not to get a headache today.

MedievalMadness · 21/04/2023 11:00

Good luck for no/minimal side effects after second injection. I’m doing mine later.

I'm 24 hours after my first injection. Not really feeling anything. There might be a bit of appetite suppression.

I'm curious about everyone else. Can we do a survey of the group? Can people say:

How long on Ozempic (or related): i.e. 1w2d
Weight change: i.e. -3 lbs, +2 lbs, etc
Appetite effects:
Side effects:

For me it's the following:

How long on Ozempic (or related): 1d!
Weight change: I'm weighing weekly so no change yet.
Appetite effects: Maybe some suppression but might be wishful thinking.
Side effects: None.

Hello all,

Does anyone have a share token for this ? And if so would you kindly share it with me?

Thankyou!

Great article - thanks for sharing! Love reading these articles. This is like the Second Coming. I do think Ozempic and its friends will show the world that obesity is not all about moral failings or lack of willpower. There's something wrong in the hormonal signaling. Ozempic fixes it. Obesity is a disease and this may be the cure. I agree that I'd be happy to see the diet industry collapse. All that money spent on them only to have it not work and/or regain the weight.

Now to address the cost of Ozempic. You can't have a miracle drug that 90 percent of people can't afford, including those who need it most. There needs to be a generic or low-cost alternative. Given all the NHS costs of obesity, the government should step in somehow to insure that there is affordable access.

Fortheloveofus · 21/04/2023 11:52

How long on Ozempic (or related): 10 days

Weight change: -3lb (but I think this was just losing 3lb I'd put on over Easter holidays - I haven't got below the weight I've been stuck at for last couple of years)

Appetite effects: no suppression

Side effects: days 8 & 9 had shivers, nausea, diarrhea, disturbed sleep and lethargy. Couldn't do usual walk or gym session yesterday. Feel better today, day 10

MedievalMadness · 21/04/2023 12:12

How long on Ozempic 7 days
weight change - 5lbs
Appetite changes - not getting hunger pangs all the time and full on much smaller portions.

side effects - slight nausea and tiredness but have just done second injection so that could change.

Im so happy with first weeks progress. I’ve not lost this much in total on any diet! I wasn’t expecting any change in a week.

Kangarude · 21/04/2023 12:42

I have been on Ozempic 2 weeks and 3 days.

I take it on Tuesdays but always weigh on a Friday
I weighed after the first week and gained 2lb
Weighed this morning and 2lb down (so same as starting weight)

No side effects that I've noticed. I have always been a poor sleeper
I think my appetite maybe slightly suppressed but I have been drinking alcohol on a weekend and I have had a few snacks/junk food. I still think about food a lot and don't seem to get fuller any quicker.

I do strenuous exercise everyday and this hasn't been effected.

The Manual coach told me that it is normal not to feel any difference straight away. Some do, others don't. It will take 3 months to reach the treatment dose of 1mg and in the interim, I should focus on lifestyle changes alongside the medication to get the best out of the process.

Sorry, I'm seeing you need a share token. I'm not seeing where I get that on the site but I will PM you the full article text.

Ok I bit the bullet and ordered via My Juniper last night. Woke up this morning to a message from the pharmacist asking me to measure my wait and send over the measurement. I had read the other thread (the most recent one, thread 5) and don't remember anyone else being asked that. Has anybody here been asked that question?

Anyway, I replied and then got a message asking for photos. So am waiting to hear back now (that was about 3 hours ago).

How long did people wait from sending photos to getting approved? Am worrying I am not going to be approved now, but god my photos were shocking so I can't see how anyone would think I don't neeeed this. 😳

Photos of what, you or the scales?!

Photos of me, as others have been asked to send over.

overitalready · 21/04/2023 15:08

@AncoraAmarena I had the same.

Waist measurement then 2 photos requested. Both sent over and approved the next morning.
