Hi @catskittens . I took my first dose of Ozempic this morning. I have paid private prescription for mine. Expensive but will be worth it if it works. It’s only been a couple of hours since I took it so no side effects or anything yet. I’m unsure of when the side effects start though. Do you know when you will get yours?

catskittens · 01/04/2023 12:39

hi,good for you,im just going to phone the chemist oout of curiosity how much is it?

Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you manage to get it on nhs prescription? Only asking as I am desperate to lose weight have tried it all but couldn't afford it privately

catskittens · 01/04/2023 13:05

no problem,im diabetic 2 and have a high BMI i think 35 ish,i have heard people say it is hard to get on the NHS not sure that includes being diabetic but im pretty sure if you are diabetic and overweight it is easier to get

maybe make a thread on here asking im sure you will get a good response

I paid £129 for first month but then goes up to £199 next month. I am pre-diabetic and BMI over 30. My Dr wouldn’t prescribe it for me as he said it wasn’t available on the NHS to prescribe? That’s obviously isn’t the case if you have it. I am hoping once it becomes more widely available on the NHS the private prescription prices will come down - I can’t afford £200 forever!
Good luck @catskittens - are you going to take it tonight?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 01/04/2023 13:34

Did my first dose last night, haven't felt overly hungry today so feel like it's working.

I managed to lose a lot dong calorie counting during lockdown but then put it all back on. I have PCOS, insulin resistant and really struggle to lose any weight at all unless I eliminate carbs from my diet, most I can handle is what's in green veg, even eating fruit stops me losing so I have to be really restrictive.

Starting at 5ft 8, 16 st 7lb so BMI of just over 35.

I can't even get a Drs appt so no chance of getting a prescription, I ordered online which included an online consultation and we'll see how it goes.

From what I've read often people see an increase in hunger days 4/5 as the injection starts to wear off so will keep an eye out for that.

mumwheresmyribena · 01/04/2023 13:52

@Sammysees Ozempic is only cleared to be used in the NHS by diabetics as a blood sugar regulating drug. That's why you as a pre-diabetic can't be prescribed it on the NHS and have to be prescribed it off-label and privately.

Wegovy has been cleared for NHS use for weightloss but only with a BMI of 40+, less with certain compbidities but there is no supply in the UK yet.

Thank you for the info. I guess I will be paying out for the foreseeable. If it works then it will be worth it. I am slowly killing myself by my overeating and I am hoping with lots of changes and the Ozempic it will work out for me.

AutisticLegoLover · 01/04/2023 14:25

Ozempic isn't a magic cure. It won't do anything to cure your overeating. It lowers blood sugar over time and as a side effect delays gastric emptying do you feel fuller for longer and can eat smaller portions. I recommend you read the NICE guidelines recently published.

catskittens · 01/04/2023 15:20

Hi,I've picked it up and will start tonight tbh I think if you have a high bmi you should have it but hopefully the criteria will change
Here is mine 0.25 dose

I took my first dose at 6 this morning. I have it on prescription as I am type 2 diabetic and metformin doesn't agree with me and the next medication they gave me gives me recurrent thrush so I asked about trying ozempic. I had to have blood tests and a phone consultation with my surgery's diabetic nurse before they would prescribe it. I'm currently on the waiting list for a gastric sleeve so I'm hoping that once I have that done I'll be able to come off the ozempic.

Haven't felt mega hungry today but we did go out for a big dinner last night and I definitely took advantage! I have been burping lots today, it started last night after aforementioned big dinner but I'm wondering if the jab has extended my gassiness 😆

No other side effects so far.

I'm in the super morbidly obese category so not expecting a miracle anytime soon but if it can control my sugars with minimal side effects then weight loss is a bonus.

Sammysees · 01/04/2023 17:19

I am super morbidly obese too @Starsnores. I took my first dose at 9am this morning. I’ve not noticed any change in my hunger but I am eating healthily alongside of Ozempic. Maybe as there is more of me the 0.25 dose isn’t doing much and I will notice it more when the dosage goes up in 4 weeks. Hope so anyway!

catskittens · 02/04/2023 01:45

ok took my first dose at 7pm last night im still up and just had a small wave of nausea very much like the saxenda i tried so would say all ok

OP posts:
catskittens · 02/04/2023 17:04

had a very long lie in,im not a breakfast person so feeling not hungry is normal for me,no nausea now and ive been active the last few hours painting and sorting the garage so im hoping that is going to help

i have cooked a roast but have made mine a smaller portion
so all good here and looking forward to a more active week

OP posts:
Sammysees · 02/04/2023 17:42

My nausea seems to have passed so maybe it’s a day 1 thing. I have had smaller meals today and not snacked between meals which is unheard of for me.

catskittens · 02/04/2023 18:12

yeah i feel fine now
just had my dinner and finished it all no problem, now im wondering if the injection liquid went in ok lol

i did read somewhere where people said it was day 3/4 that they felt more full and some nausea

when i took saxenda i felt sick within a few hrs and it lasted weeks
im now going to creosote some wood its spurring me on to get more active so cant be a bad thing

my pen does not look like it has gone down how is your
im getting paranoid now lol

OP posts:
catskittens · 02/04/2023 18:52

also i do need to start eating in the day which i find really difficult so will stock up on rice crispies and fruit lol

sammy what sought of things have you eaten today, how are you feeling after eating?

OP posts:
summerlovingvibes · 02/04/2023 19:18

@catskittens I'm almost exactly the same height / weight as you. Started on Thursday (bought privately). Not a huge amount of change for me so far, I think I'm eating less but pretty sure it's psychological for me... I feel about the same level of hungry. However , I have found it easier to stop and leave things / I don't feel I crave things quite as much.

Felt fine the first 12 hours, and then a bit of nausea on and off since then.

Planning to weigh tomorrow and see if I've lost anything since Thursday morning weigh in ... hopeful!

catskittens · 02/04/2023 19:26

welcome summer.yes we are similar, good that you can leave some food it's deffo a positive sign

how much would you like to lose?
good luck with the weigh in,i bought some new scales and honestly jump about with some rather strange numbers, think i will take mine with a pinch of salt and go by the GP's one in the reception, pretty sure it said 107kg so really 10.11 worse than i thought fgs

Eatentoomanyroses · 02/04/2023 20:23

I started it last week. Did lose a couple of pounds first week but went for a meal last night and it seems to have all gone back on. Only had chicken and new potatoes and ate half so not sure what happened. Took my second dose last night and I’ve got nasty sulphur burps and don’t really feel like eating but same happened last week and wore off by Monday

catskittens · 02/04/2023 20:51

hi eater, well im no expert but im guessing it was to early for last nights meal to register but would be interested if anybody does know
oh dont despair i have a feeling we will have the same problem at some point

do you find you feel more full than before?

catskittens · 02/04/2023 20:52
