Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

My high protein veggie meals are different types of daal, chickpea curry, kidney bean curry, paneer, tofu stirfried with veggies, hummus, falafel.... Basically Asian or Mediterrranean food.

Occ sugar free peanut butter though I think that is full of fat!

Please can I join you all?
I am struggling so much with my weight 😔
2.5 years of Long Covid which affects my mobility at times. I'm at about 70% of what I used to be pre covid health wise. Plus perimenopause is well and truly here.
I am 50 and weigh 13st 7lbs.
Non of my clothes fit
I look like a sack of spuds and the weight just keeps creating up.
I keep a food diary and I try to cut down on carbs. But it hasn't worked.
It's so depressing:-(

BansheeofInisherin · 12/05/2023 08:18

Welcome @ClaudiaAndTheCauldron. Sorry to hear about your long covid.
Start small by cutting out carbs at one meal? Or doing some very gentle walking?

Welcome! I hear you on peri menopause and not being able to lose weight, I'm the same! I'm getting desperate and have now started the Fast800 plan 🤞🏻

Twoshoesnewshoes · 13/05/2023 11:27

I’ve lost another couple of pounds.
calorie counting on my fitness pal, 1400 a day except weekends.
small amount of carbs- one piece of toast, probably one portion of potato or rice each day,
protein bar for breakfast- I have the Warrior ones from Amazon.

BansheeofInisherin · 13/05/2023 18:12

Well done @Twoshoesnewshoes . I had cake yesterday and Thai lunch today, so going for a walk to try to work it off and eating salad for dinner. If I indulge at one meal, I try to make the next meal better.

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 13/05/2023 20:32

@cloudjumper

Hello to you too 👋

Please let me know how The Fast 800 goes.
In desperation I am doing the cabbage soup diet meal plan gif a week.
Today is day 2 🤞
I am not going to weigh myself until the week is finished. I am hoping it kick-starts my system to lose some of the weight

Z0rr0 · 15/05/2023 21:59

@ClaudiaAndTheCauldron One thing that I did find useful with Noom is their advice about calorie dense foods. In general, foods with a high water content has a low calorie density compared with foods with a low water content.
So things like crackers, biscuits, cake which are very dry have a high calorie density per gram and things like vegetables, fruit tend to have a low calorie density per gram. That means you can eat 200g of vegetables and it will be very low calorie, but 200g of crackers would be very high.
That means rice is not too bad because it has a high water content. 100g pilau rice is only129 calories according to Noom.
So anyway, the point is you can fill up on big bowls of vegetables to keep your calories down.
Try to measure things like your oils, sugar etc to limit those high calorie products.

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 16/05/2023 01:20

@Z0rr0
Thank you so much for the info. It is really helpful to know this. I never thought about high water and low water foods in terms of calories before, but it makes sense.
I also tried some menopause hormone happy pills that were supposed to help with bloating and hot flushes. But guess what?? They didn't do anything except drain my bank account with their obscene price 😆

TheLoupGarou · 16/05/2023 09:17

I'm still here everyone! Plodding along. Drank wine watching Eurovision at the weekend and then ate nothing but carbs on Sunday as hungover 😭 back at the gym today though.

The thing I find depressing is how SLOW the weight loss is compared to when I was younger.

Welcome @ClaudiaAndTheCauldron we are all in the same boat (fun times!)

Z0rr0 · 16/05/2023 10:53

OMG I have finally broken a five week plateau and lost another lb. I am now 12s8, just one lb away from 12 and a half which will put me at my lowest weight for about ten years.
Desperately hoping it doesn't take me another 5 weeks to lose the next pound.

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 16/05/2023 10:56

Feeling a bit underwhelmed with my efforts here.

Weighed myself after a week of IF (just starting 16 8 so not fully up to the 16 fast window yet) and I'd put on weight. I'm actually finding the fasting fine. Though yesterday I scoffed lots of sweet treats as soon as the fast was over. I do have a splash of milk in my morning coffee though - literally a teaspoon. Might try and wean myself off it.

Know I have to move more and eat less. I'm battling stress,, tiredness and a general 'meh' about life. I'm a secondary teacher with a daughter in Y11 so we are in the eye of the storm so to speak regarding GCSEs.

Need to just be consistent as I know activity and better nutrition makes me feel better about life in general.

JaffaCake70 · 16/05/2023 18:46

Sounds like such a simple thing to say, but I'm finding that preparing food in advance is helping me.

Each week night I've been getting my yogurt and berries ready for the following morning. Also, preparing salads, carrot sticks, hard boiled eggs, making mixed fruit salads etc ready to take to work.

I've found that having healthy food readily available helps, it prevents me from reaching for unhealthy convenience foods.

It's also saving me money as it means I'm not buying expensive sandwiches/wraps from the shop (M&S) that's situated within my workplace.

I'm absolutely loving the gym atm, my Husband has bought me a smart watch, I love tracking my progress and trying to better my previous effort with each visit. I'm also trying to walk as much as possible. I still haven't braved the new swimming cossie, but it'll happen.. at some point... soon... ish....

The weight is coming off very slowly, it's taken me around 9-10 weeks to lose 6lbs, but I'm feeling good about myself. To know that I've made massive changes for the better in my life is an achievement in itself, if the weight comes off too (be it ever so slowly) that's a bonus!!

JeanMarsh · 17/05/2023 10:16

JeanMarsh · 17/05/2023 13:15

I am trying to get the enthusiasm to get back on it. DD doing her GCSEs so I am a bit preoccupied prioritising supporting her but of course I could work out and eat healthily too. I guess I am looking for excuses!

JaffaCake70 · 19/05/2023 05:03

I've just had my weekly weigh in, I've dropped another 2lb!

This takes me from 14st 8lbs to 14st. Still a long way to go (I'm only 5ft 3ins) but I'm so elated that my efforts are finally reaping results 🙂

xPaz · 19/05/2023 07:15

It's so nice to see it going in the right direction. Somebody at work asked me this week if I'd lost a few lbs. It took 5 months to get the "have you lost weight?" question!! Normally my diets work quicker. But, age... hrt...

Well done that's great news 👍

I have just finished my week of the cabbage soup diet. I have list 1kg.
I'm quite pleased as I can zip up my jeans now !!🤣
I'm going to try to continue eating lots of fruit snd veg snd protein this week. Also I want to try and walk at least 10,000 steps a day.

We have GCSEs and A-Levels happening so we are a stressy house right now.

BansheeofInisherin · 19/05/2023 09:15

How do you all decide when you are the right weight? I am 5"7 and around 10.5 stone now (albeit it yo yos).

My BMI is in the healthy zone but I have tons of flab around my stomach ( shitty Asian genes). Takes ages to shift it there. I have a feeling that will disappear only if I go down to the bottom of my BMI.

JeanMarsh · 19/05/2023 09:31

@ClaudiaAndTheCauldron well done and hope your kids exams are going well.

@BansheeofInisherin I think it’s a body type thing, I don’t look good at middle bmi as I am small boned. At 5ft 5 I look ok under 9 st at maybe a 20 bmi. I have over 2 stone to lose.

6 weeks to my holiday today. I am restarting. Last chance to try and lose a stone before going away. Currently 11st 5 lbs, bmi is 27. Going to follow the fast 800 principles.

BansheeofInisherin · 19/05/2023 10:08

Yes, I agree with the body type thing. I am tall-ish but small boned, if that's possible. Extra weight just looks horrible.

Anyway, off to shove some protein in my mouth! It's painful but DD noticed I lost weight recently and was complimentary. She usually wouldn't notice me unless I was on fire, so I will take that!

xPaz · 19/05/2023 21:19

@BansheeofInisherin I'm 5'1'' and when my BMI was 23 I felt GREAT. Everything looked good on me. So that's how I decided. But I was in my forties then. Not sure I'll ever get back down to that weight (I was keto and never again). My bmi is 27 and I don't feel enormous really but I know everything will look better on me if I could lose ten pounds.

At the moment my goal is to get to just 0.1 under 25 so I am back in the normal range. One goal at a time.

xPaz · 19/05/2023 21:24

It's funny that you had belly fat when you were in the mid range of your BMI. That makes me understand why people ''keep going'' when theyre in the mid range of the healthy band. BMI really is just one approach. I like the guide that your waist mustn't be more than 48 % of your height. That can be rough on women who've had a few pregnanacies in the last few years.
