Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

Got on the scales this morning & am trying hard not to let the number get to me. I need to get my head in the game as I'm not happy carrying around the extra weight I've gained in the last year. Just struggling to decide what plan of action will work and what I feel I want to commit to. One of my biggest hurdles is having a skinny fit husband & two teenagers in the house - it tends to mean there's always higher calorie food to tempt me and with 2 lots of exams going on, one teen who is struggling, my will power is not great as I comfort eat.

rockingbird · 29/05/2023 06:32

I've been on HRT for 4 years and the weight has definitely piled on! I was 10.13 last week, this morning I'm 10.11 so 2lb off. I'm doing intermittent fasting, 20/4.. I'm hoping this helps stop my constant snacking 🫣

Neversaygoodbye · 29/05/2023 07:59

@rockingbird so are you just having one meal a day? Do you get hungry and does this effect your concentration? I used to do 16:8 but gave up as it was awkward trying to eat breakfast and lunch at work, I also didn't lose weight doing it.

rockingbird · 29/05/2023 08:09

I am just having a light meal at 6/7 and maybe a cheeky snack at 8. Black coffee and sips of water throughout the day. If I can lose 2lb a week I'll be happy. I appreciate this isn't for everyone but I've tried and failed at many other diets so a strict eating window is probably my best option. Absolutely determined to shake off the extra weight, none of my clothes fit 🫣

Neversaygoodbye · 29/05/2023 08:21

@rockingbird well done on the loss. I'm the same regarding clothes fitting, it's extremely annoying. I think at the moment I just need to get through the kids exam period while being more mindful and then come up with a proper plan on how to tackle this weight gain. Thanks for detailing what's working for you, positive stories are what I need to hear as that gives me motivation to know it can be done.

Rowgtfc72 · 31/05/2023 16:54

All gone tits up here. I'm averaging about 4 hrs sleep a night which absolutely messes with my good intentions.
Bloody perimenopause.

JaffaCake70 · 02/06/2023 05:16

Friday check in..

I've just had my Friday weigh in and I've gained 2lbs due to birthday weekend scoffing 😫

It amazes me how hard it is to lose but so so easy to gain.

Oh well, back to the grind it is!

Rowgtfc72 · 02/06/2023 07:52

I've just worked out if I lose a pound a week till I go on holiday next year I'd be three and a half stone lighter.
How difficult can a pound a week be?

Circethemagician · 02/06/2023 09:05

Joining you please. Age 50, in menopause and the biggest I’ve ever been. 5’5 and 13 stone!! A lot of my clothes don’t fit which is so depressing. I generally eat very healthily although do have a sweet tooth that I need to keep in check. I’m not on HRT.

I joined a gym in January and have religiously gone twice a week (3 times if I can). I’ve started with a PT to guide me in doing weight training as I felt I really needed to improve my strength and muscle tone.
i can feel my legs, arms and bum toning up, but my stomach area is still so flabby and I haven’t lost any weight.

Also what the hell is going on with my chest, loads of my tops are too tight, my boobs are bursting out! I’ve had to buy some new bras. And to think in my 20s I was a A cup….

Also my shape has changed, I am less curvy, more square shape with a thick waist. So some of my clothes just don’t suit me.

I’m now trying upping the protein and cutting down on sugar and alcohol.

I keep reading all these different adverts for menopausal weight loss and how it’s down to our hormones and how traditional diets don’t work, but I haven’t actually read anything which says what does work!!!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 02/06/2023 09:08

Hello @Circethemagician
I have been trying to calorie count this week, but accidentally went out for dinner. Twice.
my weight is not going up or down despite being so careful. I also have a wobbly belly which I’ve never had before. It’s all a bit miserable 😖

JeanMarsh · 02/06/2023 11:09

I’ve gained 4 lbs, bread, crisps and wine. Like @JaffaCake70 says it’s so easy to gain but so hard to lose.

Z0rr0 · 03/06/2023 02:13

It is depressing how easy it is for pounds to go on and so hard to shed a few ounces. Having said that I lost another pound this week so am chuffed. It's the wedding next weekend and if I'm lucky I'll be 12s5. I was supposed to be less than 11s according to Noom but I had that 5 week plateau.
It's currently predicting the end of September for my goal weight of 10s10 but that seems highly unlikely.
Still another pound down is another win. I haven't been to the gym for about three weeks because of working late and other commitments so I need to get back on that horse, but I'm eating very little.
One thing. I realised when I was super overweight I had this weird body dysmorphia where I didn't really see how fat I was in the mirror (except shop changing rooms). In photos I would be shocked to see what I looked like but I avoided those most of the time.
Since I've been losing weight I'm happy to weigh less but I'm much more aware of all my lumps and bumps and hate my body more than I did when I couldn't see it.
Just hoping I can keep losing and will lose those bulges and feel content in myself.
Keep trying everyone.

xPaz · 03/06/2023 20:31

Oh yeh I had that :denial body dysmorphia too. I'm 155cm and at the beginning of this year I was 70.5 kilos, almost in the obese range and I still thought of myself as basically slim-maybe carrying a few extra pounds that I'm going to lose soon. But I was over 70 kilos!! I doubted the scales, that was tge extent of my denial. I bought another scales and it gave me the same bad news!! At that point, my forcefield of denial was pierced!! 😅
Just under 65 kilos now. It's been slow. But I keep going.

BansheeofInisherin · 04/06/2023 13:25

I am feeling very pleased today because despite plateauing at 10.5 stone ( half a stone lost since January but so slow!), I fit into a pair of trousers that I bought in 2015! Maybe I have lost inches? I do feel much lighter and less heavy around the waist.
What's working for me: Rigid IF, measuring my rice ( my main vice), no sugar and upping protein. Not panicking if I fall off the wagon at weekends but getting back on it on Monday.
What's not working: MFP- I can't sustain it- and exercise does only so much. I prefer diet control.

BansheeofInisherin · 04/06/2023 13:40

Also my BMI has gone down to 23.3. I am really happy about that because diabetes runs in my family.

JeanMarsh · 08/06/2023 11:30

Well done @BansheeofInisherin you are doing really well, @Z0rr0 I have the body dysmorphia too. I now look at my huge tummy (43”) every morning and am appalled at how much fat is on my small frame. I am not prone to low moods so I can take this unpleasant start to the day. I’ve been over weight for 6 years.

Sorry if this is long but I am not giving in to a wardrobe of elasticated waists. I’ve had no alcohol for 5 days and no dairy or bread, just had fish and veg for 4 days. Already my face is looking less bloated. Lost a couple of pounds. I might join a fast 800 thread if there is an active one as I love Mediterranean food.

How is everyone else doing? I really like this thread as often on a weight loss thread someone is trying to lose a stone while breast feeding and it’s a completely different set of issues.

My new mantra is “Be Consistent”.

Neversaygoodbye · 08/06/2023 15:30

I'm not really tackling my weight head on right now as with both kids doing exams I just haven't got the headspace but I am trying to make changes and effort where I can. So I have been taking in a watermelon and feta salad this week for work. I've cut out mid-morning snacks for the last few week and have been going out for a walk after dinner to keep my steps up around the 10K mark if I'm not doing any other exercise. I rarely drink alcohol anyway, chocolate is my poison. I'm hoping that getting into some good habits will help when I do have the time to properly focus.

TheLoupGarou · 08/06/2023 18:18

I'm plodding on - have lost about 7lb. Am trying to be consistent with healthy eating and going to the gym 3 X week. We are also trying to be more active as a family. Have cut right down on alcohol, cut out most bread and I'm taking plain yogurt and fruit for breakfast at work and salad for lunch instead of buying a sandwich or eating from the canteen.

I wish I could get the weight off faster and I hate looking in the mirror BUT slow weight loss is still weight loss, so I'll take it. I'd like to get another half a stone off before my holidays in mid July 🤞

JaffaCake70 · 09/06/2023 05:16

Good morning all and keep up the good work 👏🏻

I've managed to lose the 2lbs that I had put on over my birthday weekend so I'm happy with that. At least I'm going back in the right direction 🙂

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 10/06/2023 12:12

Nothing good to report here. Daughter’s birthday at half term and quite a few migraines meant I didn’t move much or eat well. Will be stricter with diet and IF after the weekend and just try and get off my arse more regularly!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 10/06/2023 22:43

Well done @TheLoupGarou and @JaffaCake70 that’s great!
@Justonemorecoffeeplease i haven’t done well this weekend either!
walked and swam lots but two dinners out, quiche for lunch followed by a flapjack!
back on on Monday!
for those doing IF, do you have milk in your morning tea/coffee?

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 10/06/2023 22:55

I’m having a tiny bit of milk in my coffee - literally a teaspoon! I will try and wean off it as I can drink black coffee no problem at work. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rowgtfc72 · 11/06/2023 11:50

No losses this week but no gains. Usually when I do this it means there's a few to come off next time!
Started eating fruit. And nuts.

BansheeofInisherin · 12/06/2023 17:57

Well done @TheLoupGarou and @JaffaCake70 . I am the same, no loss, no gain. Feeling despondent that my tummy continues to be the same size and weight has just gone off my butt. Thus making my tummy even more prominent.

I think I need to do some stomach toning exercises. Just walking and weights isn't doing it.

bernesewalking · 12/06/2023 19:55

Hi everyone, looking to join this thread. I’m 52 in 2 weeks, weigh 14 st 6lb, on hrt, really struggling to stick to a diet, I know what todo to loose weight but struggling to stick to anything.
