Ozempic - For those of us a few months in

Hi all, thought I would create a designated space outside of the newbie zone for those of us who are in it for the long haul and are a few doses, stone, months down the road.

Thanks @mumwheresmyribena I had my first injection on 2nd Feb. I have completely overhauled my eating habits and started to be more active as the months went on. I was never full before I used to be planning my next meal/snack even as I was eating and constantly craving sugar even waking up in the middle of the night for it and had to eat some chocolate or something before I could go back to sleep. I still have some junk foods now but only once or twice a week and I'm pretty low carb but not keto. The Ozempic was v effective for me right from day one although the appetite suppression has pretty much worn off by now which I know is normal. I'm convinced I must have been pre diabetic it's had such an effect on me my BMI was 44 when I started. I feel so much better and healthier now. I'm halfway to my weight loss target but expect the next half to be a lot slower

mumwheresmyribena · 22/05/2023 09:35

@tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee omg! Since beginning of Feb? That's even more amazing, bloody well done.

leilani83 · 22/05/2023 11:39

Yay, I managed to get some more from Quick Meds last week and they texted this morning to say they are dispatching it today! Took my last dose on Friday so was getting worried...

Peridot1 · 22/05/2023 11:53

That’s an amazing result @tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 22/05/2023 14:17

That's amazing @tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee , congratulations!

I've gone up 1.3lbs in the past 2 weeks, not a major number but feels a bit crap as I've really upped my daily steps + been good about being in calorie deficit. Maybe it's muscle? Or maybe because I was on my period? Yeah right, dream on...

QuickMeds just WhatsApped me to say they had a failed delivery today so no new stock at 6pm today. I need a new pen by the weekend so may have to look elsewhere.

Sameiam · 22/05/2023 17:33

Just taken my second 1mg dose and I’m finding it feels less effective than the 0.5 was? (Although that felt like it was tailingoff hence step up).

maybe I’m just adjusting to reduced hunger. I can definitely eat more before feeling full than I could when I started. 😬 considering how many people have bad effects on 1mg and I literally had a Big Mac meal with milkshake without feeling anything other than full, maybe my 1mg pen isn’t quite right. It did end up warming up when delivery was messed up but well within the room temperature timeline for using it!

mumwheresmyribena · 22/05/2023 17:41

That's a very high carb meal though @Sameiam. Your blood sugar will be going crazy and the Ozempic trying hard to help your pancreas compensate. Your food is directly fighting with the beneficial effects of Ozempic.

Oh, I know, that’s why I pulled it out as an extreme example that I didn’t have any side effects from it. Just felt like I’d had a big meal and that was all. Would have thought that much sugar and fat would have had a bad ozempic reaction. I suppose it meant I didn’t have anything else that day since I was full, so still stayed at about 1150 calories for the day. Having a takeaway a few weeks ago I could eat barely any of it without feeling a bit uncomfortable. I’m just surprised and suspicious that stepping up to 1mg has made me feel more normal and as if I’m not taking anything than 0.5 did.

partner is type 1 diabetic so usually we don’t eat too high carb and he basically has rti for blood sugar impacts of various things.

mumwheresmyribena · 22/05/2023 18:36

I think for me the difference is that being on Ozempic helps my "full" cues, I recognise when Im full and can stop eating. It doesn't actually stop me from eating, make me feel ill, sick or anything. I'm not a bit sure what in a big Mac meal or how big it is but I can definitely eat a biriyani or chicken tikka and rice with no ill effects but ozempic helps me to say no I don't need that. I do think that I'd maybe have trouble if it was a carby meal, high signals are hugely strong and addictive.

Hi guys, I wondered what your thoughts were on staying on 0.5mg for longer than the 4 weeks. Given the shortages, I would prefer to stay on for longer but I know that some people feel 0.5 stops being effective after a few weeks (I'm on week 3 of 0.5) and I wondered if this is a common experience? I don't want to fork out on another 0.5 if it becomes ineffective soon, but the 1mg seems to be much harder to get hold of. What do you all think? Can anyone share experiences?

I've lost over 5 and a half stone on Ozempic and I stayed on 0.5 for months as it was effective. Why move up if it's still working? Even now I have dropped down to 0.75 from 1mg and am finding it just as effective.

In my experience, if its working why increase it? if it isn't working any more then obviously move up.

mumwheresmyribena · 22/05/2023 19:58

I'm still on .5 12 weeks in. I'm reasonably sure it isn't as effective as it might be if I went to 1, my weight loss is slow and steady, kind of in the same way out weren't on in the first place. I kind of like the thought that it still takes a bit of effort but Ozampic helps support that effort.

I did 6 weeks at 0.5, at which point I felt it became less effective but 1mg was too much do I did another week at 0.5 and then 0.75 for the last 6 weeks. I'm considering going to 1mg next week but I'm unsure as 0.75 is working well for me.

RichTeaCheddars · 22/05/2023 21:37

I'm on my 2nd pen of 0.5. I'm happy to stay on it. I'm losing weight, very slowly but that's fine. I still feel the effects of reduced appetite. I'm not in a rush to move up to 1mg

TimeWaitsForNoWoman · 23/05/2023 07:20

Thank you so much everyone, that's been really helpful! I'm going to stay on 0.5 as long as I can then and hopefully it will keep being effective for a while.

On another note, what do you do when your bmi dips below 30 (with no linked conditions)? I've lost 3 stone so far (not all on Ozempic but it sped up hugely once I started) and I imagine when I lost another stone - ish, I may well be under 30, but my target weight is still a way off. What do people do?

Id be interested to know this as well - imagine it’s fine if you’re with the same provider but swapping is more complicated. Quickmeds especially only has current weight and nowhere really to capture the journey. I’ve just been whacking my start weight in each time I swap, but tbh even though my bmi was 28 (plus pcos) there has been absolutely zero questions or follow up to confirm it, not even photo required for quickmeds, so they’re just legally covering themselves but don’t really care if you lie.

feeling better this morning since my week and a half long plateau finally broke and I’ve dropped a couple of pounds. Maybe a weekend of higher carbs and carb cycling helped, I know people were always mentioning it on keto (although it smells suspiciously like bro science). A couple more pounds til my bmi is 25, and then a stone or so to target weight. Hoping to be off ozempic by September - will probably log my experience in keeping the weight off once hunger comes back.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/05/2023 08:38

Today is the first injection day since last August that I have had no Ozempic to inject. I have two pens on order so it could be worse (Daily Chemist 13th May and Quick Meds -19th May) but no dispatch e mail from either company. I think demand was always going to be massive and I hope supply will catch up before too much longer as the new drugs come into the market.

MiniCooperLover · 23/05/2023 08:42

Are the other companies much cheaper than Juniper? Partly through laziness, but mainly because they've regularly supplied me without issue, I've not looked elsewhere and Juniper don't seem to have any issues sending mine out?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/05/2023 08:56

Quick meds is £149.95 and have been quick despatching in the past. Daily Chemist is neither cheaper nor faster but I received my last order from them in just over an week and they seem to have stock in more often.

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 23/05/2023 13:53

I see there's yet another Ozempic bashing thread in Chat today 🙄 honestly some of the rubbish being spouted is incredible:

"I was talking to a doctor and the instances already of Thyroid cancer was alarming. Given it isn't around that long.. what will it be like in 5- 10 years time."

I hope they don't jump on this thread and start arguing again. 🙄🙄

restingwitchfaces · 23/05/2023 14:10

Gawd that thread is so sanctimonious - it stinks of 'just stop being greedy fatties'.

I've managed to break my 4 week stall and magically shifted 5lbs overnight, the body is a very odd thing! Started in Jan and now 20lbs down. Sadly for those on the moany thread, i had some blood work done and my cholesterol has improved, my glucose levels are behaving, Also my hormones are behaving better, my cycle is now 28 day regular and i'm much, much more active than i was.

SarahC50 · 23/05/2023 14:30

That thread is dripping with judgement. If we hadn't all struggled with our weight and diets for years we wouldn't be taking the drug. It's expensive and has vile side effects and you still have to reduce your calories and exercise, I certainly am not finding it as easy option as many on that judgy thread are saying. So tedious isn't it xx

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 23/05/2023 15:03

Well done @restingwitchfaces

leilani83 · 23/05/2023 15:07

Delivery from Quick Meds today - yippee!!! They are just fab! Hoping to have to get just two more pens until target weight! 💪

As for that Hamstersarse, horses arse more like, judgy cow. Keto evangelists are the absolute worst.
