“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD FOUR

1000 replies

HermioneWeasley · 12/03/2023 09:17

Can’t believe we’re on thread 4

welcome back to previous posters, and welcome to those who are new or interested.

a few of us have been on Ozempic with a range of experiences for a few months now, so if you’re interested in how it goes in the early days, the earlier threads might be a good place to start.

I’ve been on it for about 6 months now and have lost around 20lbs. It has been effortless. I used to be ravenously hungry all the time, and now I’m not. I had very mild side effects at first (just some nausea), but none now.

most of us have referral codes for various providers, so if you are starting, do ask on the thread and someone will PM you.

I forgot to add - I lose weight at 1,600 calories or fewer. So, I haven’t noticed any weight loss on the scales yet. But at the same time, I am absolutely eating less than I would otherwise. Which is interesting. I just need it to come down even more!

Whereisthewine · 20/03/2023 07:58

Considering this for a while now as have over 2st to lose, am 49, menopausal and on HRT patches. Does anyone know if the HRT patches interfere with Ozempic and vice versa? X

I am four days into my first jab and I just wanted to share something I’ve realised.

On the advice of previous posters I have been tracking the calories of what I eat each day on Nutracheck.

Well, turns out that I was previously eating much more than I thought I was. For example, the other day I estimated I’d eaten about 700-800 calories but in fact it was closer to 1800. Yesterday I didn’t think my Sunday lunch was too much - added up it was 1200 calories!

I do think that Oz has reduced my appetite, especially with the evening munchies. I am definitely eating less than I used to and I’m reaching for the sweet stuff in the evening much less. But what’s astonished (and scared) me is that me eating less has still worked out to an average of 1,875 calories per day over the past four days. It has really opened my eyes as to how much I must have been eating. Blush

I agree that when you use an App like Nutracheck it does open your eyes to how easy it is to rack up about 1800 calories while thinking you’re not eating much. I am way more mindful now than I used to be. I cringe a bit when I see friends eating lots of high calorie food and saying things that show they think they haven’t eaten much. I’m careful to keep such thoughts to myself though or I would be losing friends! In the past I was kidding myself in exactly the same way.

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 08:13

It’s pretty eye opening isn’t it @RainyDays8? I really must start doing the same.

@Whereisthewine - why Ozempic? If you only have two stone to lose. Your BMI wouldn’t be high enough to have it prescribed. HRT can cause weight gain I believe - a book I read recently referred to oestrogen as a fat maker. So if you are on a hrt with too much oestrogen for you it could be contributing to your weight.

RainyDays8 · 20/03/2023 08:24

Yes it is indeed eye-opening @Twiglets1 and @Peridot1. It was good advice to track the calories, thank you for sharing it.

I suppose the resultant question then is, well I know I can eat 1600/day as I have done it before, lost 5kg and managed to keep it off. So if I can just do that again, why bother with Oz? I think the answer will be that Oz will make it increasingly easy to stick to the 1600 calories in the longer term (or fewer, with any luck!). As usually I get bored after a couple of months so ‘give up.’

It feels very strange how I can stop at two biscuits instead of four. I hope as I continue to have my 0.25 doses my appetite will be suppressed a little more so I can easily get that 1875 figure down.

It’s actually really hard to stick to about 1600 calories or less a day long term without the help of Oxempic and the appetite suppression.
Will be slightly easier when people have become used to eating less and more comfortable with stopping eating as soon as they feel full. These are new habits people will have to learn for it to work long term & I’m currently trying to address.

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 08:38

@RainyDays8 - I used to think it was just because I got bored (or more likely was a failure) when I couldn’t stick to whatever calorie allowance or diet plan I was doing. Not so. Our bodies want us at the heavier weight. For when the next famine comes along. We are still Hunter/gatherers. We survived on meat and fish when we could get it and some berries pretty much. Some say that’s still all we need. But in modern society food is all around us. Much of it crap and not what we are evolved to need. So we eat too much. And gain weight. All fine. Because in our Hunter/gatherer days there would be lean days or weeks and we needed that fat. Now we don’t. But now many of us create a famine for ourselves by going on another diet. We lose weight and then our body takes over and goes hang on a minute! We need to gain again to have something to fall back on in the next famine (also known as the next diet). So basically it’s not our fault. It’s Mother Nature.

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 08:42

@Twiglets1 - yes it is hard. But WHAT we eat is as important as the amount of calories. 1600 calories based on protein and veg and healthy fats with some fruit is much more sustainable than 1600 calories of more processed foods and carbs which cause blood sugar spikes and drops and cravings. Someone posted that we need to eat like a diabetic which I think makes so much sense.

Sameiam · 20/03/2023 08:46

Took my first dose yesterday! No side effects yet but also not eaten so we shall see, never been a big breakfast person anyway. Just under 12st today so I know I’ll lose less than most people here, but still hoping to get under 10 by the autumn.

back on the treadmill today too 😔I hate exercise.

You would be surprised to see just how much cake my (type 1 diabetic) partner ate yesterday without spiking too much!

Yes I agree and Im trying to eat more protein & vegetables etc. But sometimes I crave unhealthy food & it’s impossible (for me) to be good all the time. Sometimes I want to drink wine and eat crisps!
Still, it’s a good goal to have and I stick to it most of the time. Good Luck everyone and keep going.

Hi all great reading everyone's experiences, I wondered if anyone has come across a discount code for Juniper at all? I'd be ever so grateful

I'll message you :)

hasitreallybeenthatlong · 20/03/2023 09:01

Thank you @LadyFarnborough :)

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 09:01

@Sameiam - I’m sure but they wouldn’t be able to do that all the time. I know my dad couldn’t. He’d get away with some things but then would start to notice the spikes. And knowing the underlying damage he was doing worried him.

@Twiglets1 I totally get you. It’s not possible to do it 100%. It’s why we have weekends! I think trying for 80% is achievable and if we only manage 70% then we are doing better than we did. I’m aiming to really cut the carbs Mon-Fri but have what I want at the weekends. It’s got to be something I can stick to. I’ve been bad this week and have noticed since I got back on Wednesday I’ve gravitated back to too much bread. Always my weakness. So I need to watch that. I still have a biscuit or two with a cuppa after lunch every day though. Plain biscuits. It’s about figuring out what works for us.

Rosie219 · 20/03/2023 09:53

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa and Peridot1 thanks for the dioralyte advice! This group is so helpful. Obviously I did my own research prior to taking Ozempic but it's great to be able to have this advice/chat thread.

RainyDays8 I'm sure you're right although I must admit to not calorie counting myself. I'm a bit apprehensive of getting sucked into the 'diet' culture. I'm also not planning on weighing myself any time soon as I'd rather go off how my clothes fit and other non scale victories. However if I don't see results I realise I will have to look at calorie counting!

Prettybubblesintheair · 20/03/2023 10:40

FYI the manual code for 50% off isn’t applicable to weight loss plans x

Twiglets1 · 20/03/2023 10:54

There is a separate thread now that new people may be interested in called Ozempic - discount codes

HaggisBurger · 20/03/2023 13:34

Took mine for first fine at about 9. I seem to be peeing like a racehorse (sorry tmi) but I’ve upped water intake on advice here. But still …

Do feel less hungry for carbs than I would on a normal day after a few drinks. 🤞🏼

Sameiam · 20/03/2023 14:13

Not sure if it’s placebo but found that my normal Coke Zero tastes a bit flat and tasteless. Also tried a bit of chocolate and it doesn’t taste as good as it usually would.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 20/03/2023 16:43

Hi, I’m fat and desperate - guessing this drug would be right for me??? How much is it a month please?

Thank you 😊

GettingThereCharleyBear · 20/03/2023 16:44

Oh just saw comment about thread on discount codes!!

gettingolderbutcooler · 20/03/2023 16:48

Have ordered mine! Should start by the weekend.
Got it from manual.
Am about 106kg and pre diabetic and am hoping to get into the 90's for the first time since having the kids!

Peridot1 · 20/03/2023 16:52

@GettingThereCharleyBear - please make sure you research it to make sure you understand how it works and if it will be right for you.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 20/03/2023 17:00

Thank you @Peridot1 - is there a best place to go for that info?
